[A/N]: I’ve been dying for a platonic!reader with the group even though I just started watching the animated series a couple of days ago. I apologize if at some point some of the character's seem out of character or I get something wrong.
Think of reader as the group’s Perrito or Groot in a sense.
I’m mostly making this for shenanigans so idk if this really has a plot or if this will be a couple of chapters ordeal.
This takes place after S2 of the show and I know next to nothing about what happens in Critical Role...
“Arghh! When are the others getting back! Grog hungry!..” whined the half-giant as he hugged his lower abdomen, his expression teary like that of a child as his best friend touched his bicep.
“Soon buddies, it shouldn’t be long now.” Pike assured with a smile that went away by the sounds of loud crunches heard nearby. “I’m telling you, this is the best sandwich I’ve ever made!” chomped Scanlan with a grin as he ate his meal while Grog growled at him, taking it that he was teasing him for his amusement.
“Gimme a piece!” Grog exclaimed with a lurch, trying to grab the food from him. “No! It’s not my fault you wasted your part of the gold on ale!” the bard argued back as he backed away from the bigger man’s grab.
“It was for good reason! I needed ale for my nuts-trucian!” the axe-wielder barked as he kept trying to take the sandwich from the gnome.
Pike could only watch as the two argued over the meal, Grog still trying to take the hoagie while Scanlan played keep-away.
She hoped it would not escalate.
“This is taking longer than I would like,” huffed Vex with a frown as she and Keyleth watched Percy and her brother negotiate the bounty they had made.
“You tell me,” the air Ashari sighed as she ran her fingers through her hair. “I just want to eat and… sleep.”
“No ale?” the half-elf questioned with a side-glance. “After the last time… no.” Keyleth nervously chuckled as she recalled their last drinking expenditure which ended mostly in vomit.
“But it was fun,” Vex teased with a nudge. “It was, the aftermath wasn’t.” she giggled.
“What, are we talking about our last drink?” interrupted Vax as he and Percy approached them. “You could say that,” answered his sister as she ushered them to leave to join the rest of the party.
Little did they know, something would change when they regrouped.
“For the last time Grog, I said no—“ were among the words Scanlan used in an attempt to get through his friend’s mind but fell through as the half-giant was successful in getting ahold of his meal.
“Ha, ha!” Grog said in triumph though no before Scanlan used his magic to propel himself as he managed to grab it back. “You were saying…” he said with a smirk though faded as Grog quickly lurched after him to get the delicious sustenance.
“Buddies, no!” Pike came forward in an effort to stop the two.
“Mine!” “No mine!” they both yelled as they both had their hands on the hoagie. “Let go!” Scanlan hollered though not before quickly thinking to use his bard power in kicking the sandwich out of both their hands.
“Nooo... my food!” cried the light-blue skinned half-giant. “Ha ha, smart thinking Scan,” snickered the gnome praised himself.
“Not really since you kept it away from yourself. Now you’re just feeding the rats.” pointed out Pike as the other gnome began to fully realize what he had done. “Oh shit, no!” he exclaimed as he ran toward the direction that he kicked the sandwich.
“No wait that’s mine! I’ll still eat it!” Grog followed running after him. “We can literally make another sandwich when the others get back!” Pike called after them but her words fell on death ears as they vanished from sight.
‘I better make sure they don’t do something stupid…’ were among the cleric’s thoughts as she also ran after them.
“Let’s see…” you whispered to yourself as you clambered down from the trash bins you had been searching in. “Not a bad haul if I do say myself [Y/N].” you said with a smile with your hands on your hips looking over the food you had managed to scavenge.
An orange looking fruit that was a bit mushy in some areas, some moldy bread, and the bone of a turkey leg with little chunks of meat here and there made up your score. You were truly feasting that night.
You slid down against the wall, grabbing the moldy piece of bread as you sat down to eat at last. Carefully you picked off the mold before taking a bite out of it, the staleness of the loaf entering your tastebuds as you looked up to the stars.
Normally you would have been chased off if people found you going through their trash even if it was for food, but tonight was the first time in a while that hadn’t happen.
‘Maybe my luck is finally changing…’ you thought with a small smile as you finished the last of the bread, though your stomach growled for more.
With only your name as the thing you truly knew for sure about yourself you had no idea who you were or where you came from as you wandered the land in search for… even you had no idea what you were doing.
Something you supposed.
But there was something inside you that urged you to go on despite your impoverished predicament you were in. So you had to continue, whatever it was.
That was until you heard a splat of something very close to you. “Ahh I’ve been hit!” you shrieked, thinking you were wounded as you felt something splatter on you, your eyes shutting close to brace the pain.
But you felt… nothing?
Carefully you opened one eye, looking around before looking at yourself to see if there was any sign of bodily harm on you. But all you found was a tomato slice on your cheek.
“Huh?” you uttered in confusion as you opened both eyes completely to look around at what had caused the noise from earlier and the origin of tomato slice only to find a somewhat squished sandwich on your right. It happened to land on the flipped crate you were using as a table to hold your dinner though now it was on top of it.
Seeing this as possibly a sign of some sort you quickly said a “Thank you!” before diving into the slightly pulverized sandwich.
You couldn’t stop yourself from slowly eating as you chowed down on the food, savoring each bite. Yet it was in your ignorance that you hadn’t noticed the rumbling sounds of something larger stomping close by.
“Hey let go of my sand—“ a loud voice boomed before feeling something grab the neck of your shirt as you were lifted to meet the eyes of a giant in your eyes. “AAH!” you screamed dropping the sandwich while Grog looked at you speechless at the sight of your scrawny form. He had expected to pick up a rat not a person which is why he cut off from speaking when he lifted you up.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t know it was yours!” you quickly apologized as you averted your eyes from him. Grog said nothing yet kept looking at you. You had no idea what he was going to do to you so you kept talking.
“I’ll get you a new one! I’ll sell my uh, my arm to pay you back!” you squeaked, your mind in panic over the situation you were in.
“You better pay me back..” said a new voice.
You looked up to see a gnome coming up beside the giant with an even more pissed off expression. Though his expression faltered slightly when he saw you being held up by his friend and even more so when he saw his sandwich splattered on the ground.
“My sandwich!” Scanlan cried at his now wasted meal, his knees buckling in despair at the sight of its ruin.
“I’ll-I’ll pay you back too!” he heard you utter, though confusion crossed his expression at your words. “Why would you have to pay me back kid?” he asked as he rose to his feet.
“Because I was eating it and then he grabbed me and I dropped it!” you quickly said as you tried your hardest not to cry.
“Aww Scan, they remind me of Pike. Can we keep them?” Grog now held you to his chest which made you jolt as you thought he would crush you. Now you were just trembling in his arms.
“Look they even vibrate!” he added with a grin.
“They aren’t a pet, Grog. Besides, we would all have to decide.” the bard pointed out.
“Decide what?”
Grog and Scanlan turned to see Vex and the others join them with Pike leading the way.
“Buddies!” Pike said in relief before running over to meet them closer and it was then she saw you in the half-giant’s arms.
“Who’s this?” she asked questioningly as the others approached behind her. “Are they another person in a bounty?” Vax queried all the while looking you up and down.
“It doesn’t appear so…” Percy was quick to offer his judgment and he was proven correct when Scanlan said, “no it’s some kid Grog picked up that was eating my sandwich.”
The four of them expect Pike sent confused glances their way before the cleric sent them a “it’s a long story” glance at them.
“But I was saying we should keep them! They even vibrate!” Grog spoke enthusiastically.
“Grog they are a person not a pet.” Vex spoke with her arms crossed. “Besides they are trembling from fear not because they actually vibrate.” she stated as she took a look at you. “… unless there is a creature that can do such a thing.”
“None that I have seen,” piped Keyleth as she went forward to the half-giant. “Yes, with that said put them down, Grog.” ordered Vax as Grog groaned, disappointed before taking heed in his command.
You could feel the smooth stone under your feet as you were gently put down, though it didn’t stop you from shaking as you now head yourself. You felt your throat blocked off as if you had swallowed a frog as no words exited your lips.
“Are you okay?” asked the air Ashari as she sent you a comforting smile. “Sorry about Grog, he means no harm… most of the time.” Pike had joined in and also sent you a comforting glance.
But she tried to hide the true face she wanted to make at the overall state you were in. They all were trying to not show their pity.
You were dirty and obviously malnourished, a state no one should be in especially someone as young as you. Percy obviously saw himself in you and looked away when you felt his gaze on you. There were some things of the past that still pained him.
“I’m… okay,” you managed to croak out. “I’m sorry about your sandwich,” she turned to Grog and Scanlan. “I’ll pay you back—“ “No it wasn’t your fault. You had every right to eat it. Right Grog?” the bard elbowed the strongest member of the party.
“Oh right! Well since I can’t keep you, I’ll give you some money to eat!..” Grog looked to Percy and the twins in response as they caught on and quickly got out some of the gold they were rewarded. “Right, here’s your half,” Vax tossed him his portion of the bounty. “Mine too, I don’t mind.” Percy quietly added this time actually looking at you and sending an empathetic look to you.
You quietly gasped recognizing that he had also been in your shoes even though in your eyes he hadn’t looked like he had been. In that moment you were trying to figure out why they were helping you when you had done nothing worthy for them.
But your thoughts were cut short when Grog pressed the gold coins in your hand, you looking up to meet his brown eyes.
“I can’t accept this,” the words spilled out of your mouth. “This is yours… you might need it than I do.” you said truthfully.
“But we want you to have it darling. It’s a gift. Please take it.” came the soothing voice of Vex as she assured you.
“Yeah, take it so you can eat… maybe another sandwich,” offered Scanlan with a wink.
“We have to go now but please take care of yourself,” Vax spoke directly at you, your eyes locking to his. He wished they could help you more but they had to worry more on the journey ahead of them with Tal’Dorei at stake.
They could at least do some good along the way.
“Yeah, be safe.” Keyleth sent you another smile before leaving you to join Percy and the half-elven twins. “Who knows we might meet again,” Pike encouraged as she also left to join them.
“Bye my little pet,” Grog patted your head before leaving with Scanlan. They all waved at you before leaving the alleyway as you stood watching them leave.
However, the air around you seemed different as they disappeared from sight.
Something had changed within you.

Please let me know in the comments! Now onward to the story!

“I can’t believe it… they’re gone.” came the mournful response of the performing bard, Vax seeing his sorrowful expression as he himself was in disbelief that you had been taken just as fast.
However as he thought about what they should do at that moment, he noticed something was afoot.
Or rather something was missing.
“Surrender? They don’t know it.” a slightly familiar voice spoke. The eyes of the party members sparked in recognition of the voice, though their faces were in disbelief when they saw who had spoken it. “Impossible…” glowered the master of cremation as he lowered his head to look at you as you stood mere kilometers away holding Mythcarver in your hand.
You had managed to get it. ‘By the gods…’ thought the rogue as he could feel the corners of his lips quirk into a proud smile.
“Not ‘impossible’-- ‘I’M’ possible…” you corrected. With a smirk on your lips and with the vestige in hand; you directed Mythcarver to his feet. The dragon let out a guttural growl before looking down to see pouches of something on his left foot that alighted at that moment.
You knew that gunpowder would come in handy.
Multiple explosions reverberated in the area; Keyleth, Pike, Scanlan, and Vax moved out of the way as Scargone was knocked over by his injured foot.
Grog and Vex looked on with incredulous looks on their faces though the half-giants turned into one of glee. “See I told you she can vibrate…” he said proudly as the others recovered from the ground.
You happened to hear him and chuckled at his response but that laughter went away when Scargone set his sights on you.
His eyes seemed to try to read your figure as now that he was able to see you by the light of his flame that their was an air of familiarity surrounding you.
Of course you had no clue on what he thought of at that moment as without a second to waste you charged toward him with Mythcarver at the ready.
Vax however did not want you to further engage. “Scanlan, Keyleth get them!” he ordered as he saw your figure charge at the destructive monster.
From what you could tell all you could hear was white noise as you focused your attention on your oversized opponent who sent out another fury of blue. You dropped down skidding in time to now slide under his belly.
“Where are they?” Scargone hissed as his flame diminished from sight, sensing that you had evaded his attack. He lowered his head in search of you even though you quietly crept out from under his belly to now under his head. What you had in mind since you had the vestige was going to top all the stupidest things you had done so far.
But it would also give Vox Machina an opening when they saw what you would do next even though you couldn’t lie to yourself that it was a little bit scary.
Okay, a lot scary.
‘This is so scary?! Why did I think this was a good idea!?’ you admonished yourself as you tried to keep yourself going on the adrenaline, your lungs desperate for air as much as you tried to stifle your deep breaths. You couldn’t give way to your position no matter how much head damage the beast had as you waited for the exact moment to exact your attack.
You could see it approaching as when he was close enough to the ground, you darted out and climbed as fast as you ever climbed on top of his snout.
“That kid has more balls than I do…” the words spilled out of Scanlan’s mouth as they all witnessed you climb on top of the beast’s nose. “You got that right,” echoed Pike as they saw at first glance how Scargone was trying to make you let go of him.
“But why go on his… nose?” grunted Keyleth as she summoned more vines to pin the lizard’s wings. But her comment brought something to mind for the Matron’s champion as he looked onward to the still resisting beast though more importantly on you.
Then it hit him.
“I see what they are going to do, be on the ready..!” he informed as he ducked out of the way from a near fiery death. “I’m still trying to hold him down!” yelled the air Ashari. “Whatever you have planned, do it without me.”
“I’ll still stay with you,” Pike voiced as she still attempted to assist with all her being. “No Pike, we’re going to need you.” expressed the half-elf as he beckoned for both gnomes to follow after him. The cleric was hesitant, her eyes looking over to see if the Druid would be alright with her leaving only to see her send a look that confirmed it. It was only the four of them now that Percy, Grog and Vex were out of commission.
“GAHH!” you screamed as you tried to hold on.
“You insolent bitch! I’m going to roast you and eat you when I have my claws on you!” you heard Scargone say to you.
“I don’t taste delicious sorry! I think I have diseases!… the plague even!” you shouted as you held on to some nobs on his snout, all the while still holding onto Mythcarver. “Not the point you bastard!” he hissed as he threw his head in an attempt to bite your flailing limbs off or at most get the vestige out of your hands.
You had had it. “Then have tetanus then!” with a war cry that mostly sounded like a scream, you swung Mythcarver jabbing it by your luck a through-and-through into his nostrils.
Scaergone howled in utmost agony as your right arm was bathed in his blood.
Though by his distraction of pain, he had no time to react to the forces assembling behind him.
With a shout of “now”, thanks to Vax’s speed he was able to get Scanlan and Pike to Scargone’s skull and because of their sudden force; their attack was more deadly when they struck him again for the last time.
The dragon let out a wail as he tried to keep his head up until several gunshots penetrated his already wounded weak spots made his once towering head crash to the ground with a loud thud.
The trio having heard the gunshots looked up to see Percy towering over them on another nearby building, blood streaming down his head as he lowered his pepperbox.
“I thought this would never end…” he managed to huff out as Pike and Scanlan cheered in victory. “Me neither..” Keyleth uttered, drained as she leaned onto her staff for support. Out of all of them, she had taken the brunt of managing to stay around to keep Scargone grounded.
“It was thanks to the kid we were able to succeed…” Scanlan said with a smile, being the first to praise you. “Indeed..” Vax shared one as well that was quickly wiped away when he realized you might have not gotten off when they finished slaying the mythical beast.
“Oh shit, are they okay?..!” he quickly got off the slain dragon as he made his way toward the head, the others following in his pursuit. In that moment he did feel slight guilt from how he was acting towards you earlier. But it seemed to vanish as you said “I’m good!” to him when he made his way over. A smile was etched on your lips as you hung over upside down from the snout without a care as if you were not lying on top of a dead dragon.
“Thank goodness you are!” chuckled Pike as she watched Vax help you to get down from the dead beast’s snout. “I still can’t believe you did that..!” Scanlan spoke as Percy rounded the corner with Keyleth. For the most part, they seemed to be out of words to say as you landed down beside the gnome.
“Honestly I can’t believe I did that either!” you half-heartedly chuckled, a bit embarrassed from their praises. “I mean I know you guys said you didn’t need me around but uh… I couldn’t really help myself. I felt like I should’ve been here anyway.” you continued yet you felt yourself averting from their gazes. “I also wanted to properly thank you all from earlier. Can’t do that when you guys are dead, heh.”
“You didn’t really have to do that in more ways than some, but I think I can speak for all that we are glad you did.” Vax was the first to speak in response to your address as his comrades nodded with agreement. “But we would also like to thank you. You did save us in the end.” the freckles woman sent you a smile as you looked to her having heard she was speaking directly towards you.
“I told you they’re the best. They’re my pet after all,” a deep yet familiar voice boasted as you looked over to see Grog being helped by Vex as they approached your group.
“It appears so…” agreed the archer as she sent a nod your way, you taking it as her thanks as Pike raced over to them so that she could put her healing abilities to use.
“You flatter me, I wouldn’t mind actually being a… pet.” suddenly you saw the world going sideways as boots and other things you couldn’t identify filled your vision.
It was then the world turned black.

[A/N]: I’m thinking the title might change as the story progresses but who knows
Also apologies if I don’t cover everyone’s point of view, it’s not easy writing about a bunch of characters!
Also there might be violence and stuff but this is TLoVM what can you expect lol
“Wow I thought Grog losing his muscles was more depressing for him than not getting to keep the kid,” sighed Scanlan as he took a swig of his ale though not before watching Grog lay his head on the wooden table.
“Me too,” agreed Pike as she looked on with a small frown over her best friend’s state. “Our journey is not exactly for young folk,” reasoned the Matron of Ravens’ champion.
“It’s still upsetting to watch. I feel bad for him though,” Keyleth looked down at her drink.
“At least we were able to help in some form,” Percy attempted to see things from a positive perspective. “Indeed,” murmured Vex.
“Who knows, maybe we’ll see them when we leave in the morrow.”
Breaths from the cold night were visible as you panted from running. You weren’t running from anyone to be exact, more like you were trying to find the group that helped you earlier.
That’s if hopefully, they hadn’t left which is why you were running in the first place. You wanted to properly thank them for giving you enough money to fill the gnawing ache in your belly from hunger.
But it was futile.
It was too dark now and the moon that once illuminated your path was now dark.
Wait… there had just been moonlight a moment ago.
A strange sensation resonated in your being, that felt familiar and unfamiliar at the same time.
Yet you never thought you would be screaming a word that struck the hearts and minds of common folk with fear.
“Dragon!” you screamed as you ran into the street, hoping in some shape or form your cry of alarm would somehow alert everyone in the nick of time but it was too late.
The hard flapping of wings entered your hearing though not before blue fire spurted downwards from the sky onto the ground, burning the buildings around you as you ducked for cover from the flame.
The dragon roared as it flew above you, spreading more of its flame. The fire was unlike any that you’d seen before, as the heat of the flames made you hotter than before even though you were a good distance away from them though its damage was just as heavy as screams of terror filled the night air.
“How pitiful… you think you can escape from my grasp?” the dragon bellowed as it landed on a tower that from what you can see had to be in the center of town. Using its vantage point from there, it stayed perched on the stone structure while aiming its head to burn whatever it saw move.
Those who were trying to survive by escaping unfortunately met their demise by the blue flame.
“Let it be known that I Scargone, master of cremation, am taking this town for the Chroma Conclave!” announced Scargone as he lifted his head up to the night sky before unleashing his fiery breath.
‘I was wrong… my luck went to shit!’ you cursed as you hunkered down in the alleyway you ducked into. Your body was too scared to move, frozen in fear as much as you knew you had to leave there with your life.
“Get the others to safety!” you heard an all too familiar voice say which in that moment helped you to break free from your frozen state. Carefully you peeked out from where you hid.
“Scanlan and Percy make sure to get everyone out before joining us against this bastard. I want casualties to be at a minimum…” it was them, you finally managed to find them.
‘Wait they are going to stop the dragon?!’ now panic filled your being because even though you just met them, you didn’t want them to die!
“We just killed a dragon not long ago, had one be in our midst for a while and now we have to kill another one again!..” groaned the archer woman from earlier.
‘So they have encountered dragons before… even killed them.’ you never would have thought they were dragon-slayers as they were not what you imagined when one pictured them. You thought they would be more rough and tumbled and maybe some missing a limb. Maybe Grog looked the part but not really anyone else.
“If it is destiny dear sister then so be it. The rest of us are killing a dragon.” her brother acknowledged placing a hand on her shoulder before nodding to the others for initiation of their plan.
“Let’s go Scanlan,” ordered the man with glasses, the one that also offered to share his gold with you as he turned on his heel racing ahead of the gnome also from earlier.
“Coming, geez!” the bard bantered back as they went their separate ways.
You debated about what to do. It would be stupid to follow after them, but you also had a strange feeling inside of you other than fear if you didn’t do something.
Perhaps it was cowardice.
But they also knew what they were doing, they killed a dragon before.
Your heart began to pound faster and faster as you debated about what to do, adrenaline coursing through your veins.
‘Ugh so help me…!’ without a moment to think, you got up from your hiding spot and ran out of the alleyway as your legs seemed to have a mind of their own following in the direction of where Grog, the giant that held you earlier, went along with his part of the party.
As much as you reasoned with yourself that they could handle it; something inside of you said for you to go and there was no avoiding it.
Within a moment’s notice, it had not taken long for them to reach the center of town as much as the blue flames made an attempt to burn them from existence.
“Voluntaire!” Vex shouted as she took out her broom from her magical pouch, not wasting a moment to get on and reach to the sky so that with her added height she would be able to shoot at Scargone with Fenthras.
While they were distracted with Scargone; it was easy for you to slip by. It was not easy for you to hide as fire seemed to corner you with every step you took, but you had to make your way somehow.
“I…want to… rage!” you could hear Grog yell as he used some kind of object against the ground to launch him in the air. You were able to see him as the gauntlets on his hands glowed as he neared the beast.
Scargone having noticed him wasted no time in breathing his devastating flame to first Vex and then Grog. Vex managed to maneuver out of the way but Grog was able to feel part of the blue flames.
“Grog!” screamed Pike as she watched him fall, thinking he was not able to withstand it. But with a clap of the Titanstone Knuckles, he stopped his descent and ascended once more.
“That was nothing!” he grinned as he finally touched down onto Scargone.
“Pathetic…” the black dragon hissed as he tried to bite the half-giant though not before noticing a dark shadow move in his periphery. Vax using the newfound wings of a raven from his vestige threw his blades at the beast, though his aim was not accurate as he tried to evade the wings of Scargone as another means of attack.
“He’s stopped spewing that dastardly blue fire thanks to brother and Grog,” Vex huffed, coughing from the dark smoke from the flames Scargone had ignited earlier.
“Keyleth, we won’t be able to fight if the smoke is slowing us down, do something about it,” the half-elven twin ordered as the air Ashari did as she was told. “Pike you and I need to buy time with Grog and brother until Percy and Scanlan get here. Maybe we’ll need Mythcarver to take him down.” she rationalized as the gnome cleric chuckled before saying a “right” before heading over to help their friends.
So it was the four of them against one dragon as you watched Keyleth put out the smoke and flame with her air-druid magic. Though as much as she put them out, Scargone would go ahead and add more as he tried to aim at his attackers.
Though from your viewpoint you could tell he was growing in aggression and it won’t be long until he maybe changed course. Maybe there was a weak spot on him.
A weak spot? How had you known that? You wanted to deduce how you knew on that matter but something caught your attention.
When Scargone turned his head trying to set Vex on fire; behind his jawbone were what looked like gills almost like that of a fish. The others wouldn’t have noticed it because of the darkness of his hide and the smoke that exhumed which covered it from view.
Until you were able to see it.
“Enough!” Scargone yelled agitated as he lifted himself from his perch, rising high in the sky as he took off probably in an attempt to remove Grog from him as he was the only one who managed to be on him.
“There goes Grog again,” commented Vax as he hovered in the air, his eyes narrowing trying to spot the dragon.
“Brother he is using the night to his advantage and there is no way we can keep up with him. It's like Umbraysl all over again,” pointed out his twin sister as she hovered beside him.
“Even worse, I don’t think we’ve managed to put a dent in him…” groaned Pike as she wiped the soot from her face. “We need another change of plan. We have to keep him grounded until Percy and Scan get here like Vex said earlier.”
“You’re right, but what can we do? Even with these vestiges, it seems we are always at the shorthand of the matter…” Vax couldn’t help but voice his thoughts as he landed on the ground with a thump.
“You need to exploit his weak spot.” an unfamiliar voice spoke softly.
The eyes of both twins widened in surprise for they did not sense that there was someone else among them as they and the others with them looked over to see you illuminated by the light of the blue flame.
But it was only until recently that they discovered that Vex could not sense all dragons and now apparently they could not sense you as you approached them.
There was something off about you and they knew it.
What were you?

[A/N]: Hey, I hope you are enjoying the series so far! Part 4 is in the works and I hope its not too much to ask but if you all would not mind commenting or sharing an emoji in reaction to the story so far. Thank you all for the likes on it that have liked it!
Also I started posting the story on Wattpad also if you prefer reading on there. It's with the same name.
Happy reading!
Vax and Vex watched you with fixated interest as you approached their group. Keyleth had finally managed to join them but also watched your figure walking towards them. She and Pike’s eyes flickered in recognition of you.
The twins on the other hand were undecided if they should kill you then and their or at most harm you because for all they knew it could be a ruse.
It was possible you were playing them and they fell into your trap.
“How do we know it’s real?” Vex was the first to speak to you, albeit with a cold attitude as she seemed to want to shoot you from where you stood. Pike and Keyleth sent her questioning looks, confused in her change in attitude especially since it was toward someone they just met. Yet the look on Vax’s eyes told them to follow their lead.
You began to sweat even though you weren’t guilty of anything. Why was she being cold to you?
“I saw when you all were fighting it, just before he took off with Grog that he had something behind his jaw err jawbone,” you slightly stammered as her steely gaze held you like a vice. “You couldn’t tell because of his skin but he has gills… like a fish,” you continued. “— and smoke covered them too so yeah you couldn’t really see them.”
“It makes sense why I hadn’t seen any smoke coming out of his nostrils,” remarked the cleric as she thought back to their battle just moments before. “I thought it was coming from his mouth
but this changes everything.”
Keyleth, holding her staff, nodded in agreement. “She’s right, we would all just need to attack at those vulnerable areas to take him down,” added the air Ashari.
“Yes but in order for that to work he has to be on the ground with all of us present,” Vex who finally  let go of her locked gaze with you turned to speak toward her friends. She wasn’t done with you even though she now had her back to you. Unsure on what you should do, you remained at where you stood as the unplanned spectator among their midst.
The aura from earlier was different now that the twins took the lead.
Maybe you should run.
As you debated about leaving, the footfalls of approaching company was heard much closer than your liking as you turned your head to see the man with glasses and Scanlan close to reaching the five of you.
“Sorry we’re late, it wasn’t easy trying to get everyone out,” the bard was the first to speak upon arrival yet paused before noticing your figure.
“Is that… the kid?!” he shrieked in surprise as panic washed over him. “What are they doing here?! You—“ he was walking toward you. “— should go! You’re going to get yourself killed!”
You merely held up your arms in surrender as Scanlan spouted reasons why you shouldn’t be there, yet you felt the eyes of the gunslinger once more. You looked up, seeing his gaze rested on you and you could see in his eyes he seemed conflicted as well.
‘Man everyone sure seems to have a problem with me… I should have just left before they came.’ you sighed to yourself as you felt the gaze of Vex return on you.
‘Not that we do actually want them to leave…’ were among the archer’s thoughts as she lowered herself to the ground. But perhaps she and Vax were wrong, your eyes spoke truth when you spoke about the weakness on Scargone’s head.
Still she was wary.
“They were telling us about a weak spot they found Scan,” the voice of Pike broke her out of her mental musings. “Don’t tell me it’s up its ass again…” he groaned, face-palming himself while the Matron’s champion looked off to the side.
They did not want to remember that experience for quite a while.
“Technically you created that for yourselves,” Keyleth slightly teased while Percy chuckled. “True but we don’t have a trap or anything to take it down…” the de Rolo commented as his expression then grew serious. “What do we have left?” he questioned as the gears of his mind worked in overdrive in trying to formulate a plan.
Always the analytical one that man with glasses seemed to be in your perspective.
“We still have Grog on him,” piped up Pike. “He stayed on longer than last time.”
“Well whatever the plan may be, we can’t have the child around.” Vax who had been quiet for the most part finally spoke as he walked toward your short stature. “You should run along as you can now. Thanks for your help, we’ll handle it from here.” he said once he reached where you stood, his voice neutral but his eyes were another story.
Conflicted, you read even though you weren’t sure how you knew that as you nodded slowly in understanding.
He did not want to let you go either, but they had bigger things to worry about at the moment.
You took a step back from him before noticing the rest of the group had grown quiet as they also had their eyes on you.
“Good luck, then. I uh hope… you all survive.” you spoke truthfully as you bid them farewell with a wave.
You could still feel their gaze on you even after you turned on your heel to walk away from them. It wasn’t until you were out of sight that with your hearing you could hear Scanlan as the one who was the first to speak.
“What the hell was that for?! I saw what you guys were doing!” he hissed as he pointed a finger at the half-twin elves. “A precaution, darling..” was all Vex uttered in response, ignoring his directed anger as she walked to stand beside her brother.
“Nevermind that, do we at least have something to take down that beast?” Percy took the lead on changing the topic of the conversation as the gnome grumbled in the background. He also wanted to talk about the topic further but not when they had to slay a dragon. It also did not sit right with him that they had to let you go but for his reasons they were entirely different from Vex and Vax.
In his eyes he saw his poor, destitute self every time he saw you.
Maybe it was why he felt a kinship to you.
“Well I was thinking,” his thoughts were interrupted when he heard Keyleth speak.
If they survived, perhaps he could find you. But for now he pushed his feelings aside so that he could listen to his comrades plans for the time being.
Even though you were out of sight, you were able to hear part of what the group was speaking about, such as when Scanlan chastised the twins from what you presumed.
As much as they outright told you that you weren’t wanted, even by their body language; you found yourself stopping short from taking another step.
That feeling from earlier resonated once more with you.
Was your body telling you not to leave?
But why?
Somehow you thought maybe this has to do with who you once were prior to your amnesia.
‘I hate this. I could have been a badass for all I know and I don’t remember it…’ a sigh escaped your lips as the feeling of hopelessness settled within you. ‘... but nothing.’
You were at a crossroads. On hand, your body seemed to know something that you obviously didn’t know but on the other hand, your presence wasn’t needed.
It was all very confusing.
How could you know if you should really bite fear in the butt?
“Stay.”
“Huh?” you looked up in search of the voice. You hadn’t realized you were not alone. But you saw nothing other than the ongoing flames of the fire around you.
“Stay.”
You heard the voice again.
“Destiny if this is you… you suck at it.” you voiced your frustration as you ran your hand through your hair. “What can I do?”
You were met with nothing in response. You sighed, your eyes closing in that moment yet you felt that dangerous feeling from before.
You looked up to see something move quickly in the night sky. Scargone was still working to get Grog off him based on the different spouts of flames that lit up the dark of the night.
“You know what… screw it. I’m done doubting myself.”
With a new conviction and the burning thought that this was the second stupidest thing you had done that day, you headed back to where Vox Machina would continue to fight the dragon.
You’ll take your chances with them later. It’s not like they were your family or anything, you were your own person.
That and you weren’t exactly a kid… you’re in your late teens damnit!

Little Slayer 4| TLoVM x platonic!reader
Preface| Every party had their outlier. For some, most people would think it was Scanlan of the legendary group Vox Machina. Yet as we know fate has its own working on the matter.
Enter amnesiac Y/N who happened to cross their paths. For the most part they appeared utterly normal as a human could be but well as the party would soon realize there is more to them than meets the eye.

“I can hear him,” voiced Vex as she sped along her broom, her elven-shaped ears having alerted her. “So do I,” her brother confirmed as he used the dark of the night as a cover for himself in not giving away his position.
“Insolent pest!” the dragon roared, causing the twins to stray away from sight. They were able to see he was nearby and still trying to get rid of Grog.
“You suck at this,” Grog teased as he opened his mouth with a guttural yell as he used to his advantage the Titanstone Knuckles to pound at Scargone’s skin. The dragon in question unleashed his hellfire onto himself in response, as an attempt to burn him. Vex drew close to him.
“Grog get to the top of his neck! The back of his head!” she shouted her orders at the half-giant. “Hmm? Okay.” was his response, the half-giant now using his remaining energy to now climb up the beast’s neck.
‘He’ll see what we know… now for the fun part; playing decoy...’ were among the last of Vex’s thoughts as she directed the broom to heed her command. Her brother would follow suit as she sped ahead to be seen by Scargone.
“For a beast that’s supposedly part of the Chroma Conclave; you aren’t a very good one at that matter,” she flaunted as she flew into his field of vision. “That and you would have at least recognized that we have the vestiges you seek,” added Vax as he appeared on his right.
Scargone was quiet before his eyes flickered with recognition on who exactly he was facing.
“So it appears that Vox Machina has graced my presence. Just because you were lucky enough to defeat Umbraysl does not mean you will be able to slay me…” he jeered as both twins exchanged a smirk with one another, knowing that they had him.
“I sincerely doubt that with our track record,” Vax boasted before throwing his daggers at the dark creature. “I’ll roast you on a spit…” the dragon hissed before discharging his blue flame at them.
They both worked to evade his hellfire now that they had the sky.
“That all you can do?” Vex sneered as she unsheathed Fenthras in releasing its special projectiles.
What Scargone hadn’t realized was that they were working to get him back to the center of town.
“See them?” shouted Pike as she awaited on the ground with Keyleth who wiped out the rest of the smoke and some flame. She was speaking to Percy who was perched on the roof of a building that hadn’t been badly damaged by Scargone’s attack. Using the focused lenses of his more specialized pepperbox, he used it in search of the creature.
Then he saw it, a flash of a wing. “They’re coming!” he alerted them as he moved into position along with the others.
“Scanlan do you have Mythcarver at the ready?” Pike asked the bard as she hid behind some crates alongside him. “At the ready,” he flashed her his signature smile prompting her to shake her head at his antics. He seemed more confident now that he helped to mostly finish off the last dragon they killed.
“Do you think that kid got out in time?” she heard him say. Her eyes looked over to his. “I would think so,” she replied with a reassuring look. “They’re safe, I know it.”
You watched as Scanlan and the rest quickly ran to take position for the plan they concocted after you had left. By your guess, the twins were probably trying to lure Scargone back to the center and then unleash their ambush. It was smart really.
Now in what you were going to do in contributing to the fight, you weren’t sure. As of that moment you managed to clamber up to the highest point of an unfinished tower nearby, hiding from them. You did manage to find gunpowder and some matches. Perhaps it was meant to be demolished.
But you couldn’t focus on that matter as your hearing picked up the flapping of wings and then… a blast of thunder?
Suddenly the tower trembled with a loud boom before a jolt. The ground seemed to tremble as it knocked you from where you stood, your arms spreading wide in an attempt to hold yourself upright by grabbing whatever was closest to you.
“RrrRRRAHHH!” an unmistakable war cry perforated your hearing. Only one person you knew sounded like that.
Quickly clambering up, your suspicions were proven correct as you saw Grog near the dragon’s head, having pummeled him with the gauntlets he wore. The faint glow of them pierced the darkness of the night before he raised his fists once more to send another strike to the animal’s skull.
It was then the others appeared at the ready, Percy having leaped over rooftops to shoot the right side of Scargone’s exposed gills while Keyleth came forward, using her Druid magic, to summon large vines from the ground to pin down his head, snout, and body.
Scanlan assisted by maneuvering the vines to go this way using his bard magic while Vex and Vax, who arrived at that moment, also focused their attacks alongside Percy and Grog. Vax relinquishing the wings from the Matron of Ravens as he landed beside Grog, the two of them now working to impact the right side of the jawbone.
Pike using the power of Everlight raised her mace to the sky summoning light to hit the dragon’s head. The plan was working as the cries of agony from Scargone filled the night air. Surely they would win.
“Almost there, keep going!” grunted Vax as he continually stabbed the beast, blood splattering on his armor and face.
‘This feels too easy… I feel like they are forgetting somethin–’ were among your thoughts before you saw it; Scargone raising his tail to strike himself though more importantly Grog and Vax who were on the base of his neck.
Keyleth saw it as well and was too slow to react in time as she summoned vines to hold his tail in place but the force ripped them out of the ground. She was knocked back by the blowback of the vines, sending her to the ground.
“Brother look out!” Vex shouted in warning as the tail struck where they were. A crunch was heard and in their distraction, Scargone worked to get free from his other bindings. “Oh shit no!” Scanlan cursed as he tried to reattach the vines but they deteriorated even more.
“Get him back down!” yelled Percy as he still worked to fire round after round into the gills. “I’m trying!” the gnome barked in reply but the beast swung his tail once more, this time expanding its range as it went toward him and Percy where he was perched. The de Rolo saw it coming and took off running to get away but he was too late as it struck him, making him fly back into a building some feet away. Scanlan ducked yet his eyes widened in surprise as he saw the gunsmith fly in the air.
“Percy!” Pike exclaimed as she raised her hand once more to summon Everlight but Scargone blew his flame at her even though his snout was binded as it was more focused and as a result made the fire hotter than before. She quickly dodged out of the way, creating a shield to protect her further but was almost crushed when the hellish dragon used its feet in an attempt at killing them.
“You really think that would have held me down? You even forgot my tail!” bellowed the beast as he moved his head to rid of the last of the vines. “But now, you’ll face my fury!”
Scargone focused his breath as he spread the blue fire in the air and on the ground, trying to cremate the party from sight as well as swinging his tail to crush them.
“Scanlan give me Mythcarver!” Vax had survived alongside Grog who was propped up by the half-elf as they exited one of the alleyways that led into the center. Both of Grog’s legs had been crushed which was where the crunch came from earlier. Blood spilled on the ground, even though the half-giant still wanted to fight.
Said bard on the other hand happened to be nearby as he ducked for cover from the flame. “We gotta stab it in the eye like last time.” “Yeah but that was because of me!” Scanlan pointed out as in the background Keyleth who had recovered worked with Pike to hold down Scargone’s wings to prevent him from flying.
“I know that– just give me it!” Vax asserted as the gnome went to take out the blade from his side only to find nothing there.
“What the, it was just here!?” “You lost it?!”
“I think I see where it is!” Grog interrupted them as they turned their attention to see that the vestige was impaled on Scargone’s left foot.
“You gotta be kidding me…” groaned Vex as she came near them. She was busy trying to avoid the flame that the black beast was trying to cremate her with, as evidenced by the soot staining her body. “Glad to see you’re alive brother.” “Trying to…” her twin replied as they all ducked for cover, the beast trying to walk toward them but was still held back by the efforts of the air Ashari and cleric.
“There is no way in hell he is going to let us go near him; he’s more pissed than ever!” uttered the bard who now grew weary from the fight. “He’ll see me coming now that there is more light…” sighed Vax.
“Percy’s out, wherever he is and Pike looks like she’s going to drop any moment… what do we do?”
‘This is bad, they are going to get killed at this point!’ you couldn’t help but panic as you witnessed beforehand the discord that unleashed when Scargone’s tail was not held down.
The man with glasses was gone and now everyone else was scattered in disorganized chaos in trying to hold down the so-called member of the Chroma Conclave.
‘What do I do, they are just throwing whatever at him!’ you found yourself pacing on the still-standing structure. But it was when you were pacing that a glimmer of something caught your eye.
A sword was lodged into Scargone’s foot and you found yourself entranced by it.
It seemed to be calling you.
You needed that sword.
Quickly you ran down the steps of the tower, the battle from outside still made noise even within the tower.
You knew what you were going to do next was not just stupid but dangerous as hell; however, all you could feel in that moment was the adrenaline coursing through your veins. You finally reached the ground floor, bursting out of the entrance as you looked to see where the sword was.
Your eyes were quick to find it and to your advantage, it was on the left, near where you were, and without a moment to waste; you ran straight toward it.
The others were quick to see something moving fast toward the beast, not recognizing who it was until Scanlan screamed, “It’s the kid!?”
“I thought they left!” Vax exclaimed in utter shock as he dropped Grog to race after you. “Save my pet!” the Goliath yelled at his retreating form as Scanlan ran after the half-elf.
Vex was swatted against a building, landing near Grog before looking up to see her brother and Scanlan running toward Scargone. It was then she saw you.
“You gotta be kidding me…” she groaned as she watched her brother and the gnome evade the flames.
Scargone had heard them say something about a child, looking on both sides to finally spot you on his left. “How delicious, a snack…” he snarled as he sent that dastard blue fire at you.
“Shit!” you yelled as you saw the incoming attack.
“NO!” Scanlan and Vax said in unison as they and the others watched you engulfed by fire.
They were too late.
