i used to skip from gig to gig all the time and i know the market has gotten worse since then, but i still have some good tips. my #1 tip for getting easy entry level gigs is RESPECT SEASONALITY
a lot of industries have specific seasons of hiring. for example, shipping, warehousing, logistics, and retail hire primarily in September and October. if you need a job FAST in the fall, UPS is your best bet. you'll come on seasonal thru january and if you're really good they'll hang onto you.
if you want to get into working for the government (in the US at least) the easiest foot in the door is through parks and recreation. they hire in the Spring, but they sometimes move slow, so it's good to get your application in as early as late February. June is usually too late. once you've had one government job, it's way way easier to get another one.
other industries and paths have their own timing.... it's worth getting to know an insider and asking them what time of year the greatest number of newcomers arrive.
