"Wh — of course I can reach the countertops!" Aerith declared in a light huff. The cupboards above the countertops were a whole other matter.

There wasn't any real bite in her tone. Not now, not today, not when Loqi was as cute as a button in such a sweetheart mood. She didn't think they would be allowed to leave the house just the two of them. No, Mum and Dad were protective at the best of times. But maybe they could be sweet talked into massive fluffy pancakes for the whole family? Valentine's Day was a family celebration, right?

"Oh, look, it's us! You even drew flowers for me! Lets go find the perfect spot for your drawing. I think it would look very good on my wall? Then we can come down to the kitchen and I'll sneak a bowl of icecream and strawberries and chocolate syrup, Reno too."

had their father put him up to this? no. this was too subtle an approach for him, he'd either question reno's logic outright or angle it so that it was in the privacy of his office.

this though? this had their mother's touch about it. and while a part of him wanted to be annoyed and pull a face at his grinning little brother, there was a part of reno that liked the innocence of his younger sibling trying to tease a reaction out of him.

' — i have no problem owning what i am or what i do. but if a job or shit goes south, all it's gonna take for me to disappear is a haircut and a change of clothes. '

flopping down on the couch next to loqi, reno pointedly tousled his newly dyed locks, ' who said it had anything to do with bein' undetectable or lowkey, lo-qi. ' stretching out further, he lifted his legs and rested them across loqi's lap, a smug smirk on his face.

It was happening again. Loqi was trapped in another dream... no, a nightmare.

Ji-eun woke silently and rolled over to look to his side of the floor mattress, half laid down, half sat up with her neck craned as her eyes adjusted in the darkness.

Sometimes he settled himself back to sleep. As though, in his dreams, he found a way past the bad that was happening. Though that wasn't the case on this night. Her brows furrowed together, as her boyfriend- partner- father of her daughter uttered words out loud.

"Not her. Not her." It came as a strained whisper, tense, full of desperate emotion. She knew better than to leave him alone in this kind of nightmare.

"Loqi." Ji-eun flipped herself to face him completely, her hand coming to rest on his shoulder. She hovered, but kept a small distance. That had been a lesson hard-learned about waking in a panic. "Loqi, wake up."

He startled awake. Then, after a few moments of her giving him a comforting little shoulder rub, he even swore. That stole a sudden exhale from her, a gentle amusement that made her shake her head.

Good thing she could spring back with fast reflexes. One moment he was coming to, the next he was throwing himself to sit up, and he crawled to the makeshift cot. A small basket, that contained a smaller bundle inside. Serah was still asleep, safe and sound, though undoubtedly she'd stir and utter her hungry cry before too long.

"That didn't sound the same as usual." she commented, now sat up in their bed with her arms hugged around her legs. She spoke while looking to where Serah continued her peaceful sleep. "That one sounded... like one of the worst."

She turned her head and looked to him then. He was melted to the bed, and honestly, he looked wrecked. It was more than a new parent being exhausted. "Talk to me, Loqi." Slowly she lowered back into bed, laid on her side to look him in his eyes. "I have a feeling we're going to be awake a while longer, do you want me to bring some water?"

She almost offered to brew a pot of tea. Almost. That was out of the question.

Loqi: *sitting leaned back in a chair in the Winking Skeever, totally unbothered by the High Elf in front of her*

Caryalind: So, er.. I suppose what I'm saying is I won't harm you, or your friends downstairs. Or set anyone on them.

Loqi: *raises an eyebrow* You do realize no matter what side you're on, the words 'I won't harm you' are always suspicious, right? Especially if you've thus given no reason for me to assume you would harm us.

Caryalind: I.. Do you- Do you not know-

Loqi: I know full well who you are, Thallery. No offence, but on your own you probably wouldn't even be able to take out Lucien without some crazy planning. I've trained him too well for that. And you would find my axe at your throat before you could even send word to any of your Thalmor friends.

Caryalind: Oh- Er..

Loqi: And- *sits straight, shrugging casually* Since we're apparently being honest with our identities for some reason- a horriblly naive decision on your end, really- I suppose I'll be honest too. *she holds her hand out for Caryalind to shake*

Caryalind: ...? *shakes her hand*

Loqi: I assume you called me here to offer your aid without knowing who I truly am, so I'll be nice and give you the answer for free. My name is Loqi Stormcloak. Dragonborn, heir apparent, among other things. Whatever floats your boat, to be honest.

Caryalind: Oh..! It's nice to meet you, er..

Loqi: ...

Caryalind: ... STORMCLOAK!?

Loqi: There it is. Please be quiet, I'd rather not be ratted out in the middle of the Imperial capital of Skyrim.

Caryalind: Why did you even agree to meet me?! Do you know what the Thalmor will do to you if they find out I've met with the- the daughter?? Of Ulfric Stormcloak?!

Loqi: I imagine they would attempt to torture me in a similar manner to how they tortured my friend and my father. What do you think the Thalmor will do to you if they find out you've been speaking to the child of a rebellion leader?

Caryalind: ...

Loqi: This goes both ways, buttercup. We're both screwed no matter what, according to you. If you've the balls to still offer your help, knowing what we know about each other, then get up and let's go. I'd rather not stay in Solitude any longer than I have to.

The Goblin and her love interests.

Arancine di Riso. These fried rice balls manage to balance as much of the food pyramid as you really need to consume in a day. Cheese, carrots, wine, I'm pretty sure that's everything important. My recommended serving size is 30 balls, or however many it takes in a single sitting to feel like you've made a mistake.

Apple Salad with Candied Walnuts and Cranberries. You can load this sucker with as many cheese varieties as you have hidden in the bottom of the fridge from that sale on close-dated dairy, and the apples will still give you that fresh, healthy feeling, like you're not at risk of developing high cholesterol.

Caramel Pumpkin Mousse with Cocoa Nib Streusel. Water is a myth and this the the only real beverage outside coffee and alcohol. Yes, beverage. Just grab a 32 ounce cup from the gas station and believe in yourself.

He had already gifted her a butterfly made from cogwheels and watch-parts last year. This year it was a flower. One of her faves. But there was a special mechanism hidden in this one. "If you put in one materia here...", he pointed at where the flower was mounted to a little pedestal, "It will shine lights and twirl slowly, like magic. I know it has been some time since we used nightlights... but maybe this will give you some comfort in the evenings, when you move out for your studies now. Happy birthday."

It took every ounce of self-control to rein in her excited arm waving and hops — and that was how her little brother would know he had gifted her something quite special. If his sister wasn't rattling with excited energy, she probably still liked the gift, but it wasn't her unhinged kind of love.

Aerith uttered a curious tone then. The mechanical lily was gorgeous as it stood, but Loqi alluded to something more. Something secret. She even drew a step closer.

"... hey, seems like this has a use after all." she tittered as she retrieved her white materia. When slotted, it produced the promised effect, albeit with wispy green tendrils, like the lifestream bloomed out from the flower.

Her smile gentled as she scooped up Loqi's hands. "I'm going to miss you, you know. Let's still make time for each other. Even when we're busier than we've ever been."

well fuck lodbrok and his annoying little whispers - they been living rent free in reno's head for days now. he could solve this pretty easy - he had access to the company database, but that would be a definitive answer. and maybe one he didn't quite want to hear just yet.

so it was the easier route. and he wanted to see whether his little brother lied to him or not.

This was a tough man to crack. Truly, he seemed to hate everyone, and everything in his path. It had been a small olive branch, an attempt to offer a bridge to something that resembled camaraderie — as much as that could exist in a world where men and women climbed similar ladders.

Ji-eun lifted her shoulder in a shrug. It appeared the brigadier general wished for a chance to prove his prowess and little else, fair enough. "I suppose you're right." she quipped. Her dark stained humour came to surface. "The Lord High Commander would not approve of having to fill out the extra paperwork."

The gunblade was pulled away and in one fluid motion she had it folded and holstered at her hip. With a sharp turn of her heel she led them in a brisk walk towards the shooting range. Perhaps she wished to conclude this encounter. Or perhaps it was because she was so accustomed to keeping step with Ravus Nox Fleuret, a man who towered over most others, and a man who was quick on his feet for someone his size. It felt like it took two of her strides to match one of his some days.

"I trust that I'm not pulling you away from your duties." Ji-eun stated more than she asked, and immediately chased her statement up with a challenge. "Catch."

She grabbed her folded gunblade and tossed it into the air, high enough to give Loqi time to prove his reflexes. Her head turned to look at him and her lips curled with a smile. At least he couldn't pinch his nose at her with his hands full of heavy metal.
