Alva Lorenz General Headcanons
Warnings: in-depth descriptions of what happens to the body after death
Tumblr media
He doesn’t wear makeup, surprisingly; all the black around his eyes are natural from his head injury (if being stuck by lightning can result in a skull fracture). Source 1. Source 2.
Likewise, his lips are darker because of post mortem. Because of how thin they are, it’s most likely he was revived while in rigour mortis, as if he was revived while in livor mortis, he would be very swollen. Source 3.
The scars on his body travel the length of his entire body, up to his knees. They’re thicker where he was directly struck on the neck, and follow his veins.
Contrary to popular belief, his scars aren’t sensitive, as he no doubt has nerve damage from being electrocuted.
He does not have a six pack or eight pack or whatever Netease gave him, as his gameplay doesn’t require a lot of strength (not like Joker’s, Bane’s, Luchino’s), and is more focused on anti-cipher rush and being inconvenient to both the survivors and the hunter.
While he doesn’t spend all his time inventing things, it’s mostly spent on researching electricity (so he can get a better grip on his abilities), the one who resurrected him, and reading. Safe to say, working out isn’t on the front of his mind.

Again with the Hegemon Husk form. I think if we go back to the parley on this, the parley is meant to be best insight into Edelgard’s character. What her true motivations are. Scarlet Blaze, of all things, confirms Dimitri’s accusations.
Is Edelgard averting her eyes from what she doesn’t want to see? Yeah, she herself confirms this with regards to the Slither’s influence on the Empire. Likewise, she herself says she’s hopelessly devoted to her ideals in her support with Balthus. That same support also agrees with Dimitri’s statement that she’s forcing her beliefs on others, as she says that those that don’t support her or her ideals will be destroyed. Shez and Hubert’s support talks about how the commoners are oppressed while the nobility thrive under Edelgard’s reforms, showing that Edelgard could have reformed the Empire without invasion AND that her system doesn’t profit the weak. But as the parley states, Edelgard simply blames the weak if they don’t succeed, saying they’re too coddled while she herself is coddling the nobility.
I point this out because, well, Dimitri in Flower does call Edelgard’s route the path of the beast in the Japanese text. “Teacher. Why did Edelgard... choose the path of a beast, trampling on people's lives?” and as the final boss of Azure Moon she’s a beast unit, with Dimitri saying that such a form is the end of her ideals.  “To be changed beyond all recognition... That is what lies at the end of the ideals you served so diligently.” Even Cipher got into this with it’s card for the Hegemon Husk titled “Hegemon Edelgard: At the End of the Ideals She Served.”
The final boss of Azure Moon isn’t Edelgard, it’s her ideals. Ideals she’s constantly framed as serving, not the people. That free and independent society, the one where people are supposed to be self-sufficient? Let’s see, we have it upheld by pilfered Agarthan tech according to Byleth/Constance, Hubert’s endings make it clear the public are under surveillance with any threats to Edelgard’s rule being put down (Shamir’s mentions rebellions in the English text), the Imperial army is indirectly stated to be invading other countries in Japan (Caspar/Dorothea) where the text make them out to be a bunch of out of control juggalos rather than “sometimes reckless”, Edelgard is shown banning plays she hasn’t even watched according to her Dorothea ending, Brigid’s independence is given conditions dictated by Edelgard, Lorenz/Byleth shows that nobles can simply decide to appoint their children heirs, there’s a refurbished state-ran religion to spread Edelgard’s ideals while followers of the old faith are seen as weak, Edelgard is willing to just create positions to suit those she favors and there’s probably more that I’m forgetting. Hopes was also clear that the nobles who serve Edelgard do so because they want to ensure their own power, and any commoners who are considered for positions come under much heavier scrutiny so they don’t make Edelgard look bad. But we don’t even have to go that far, do we? The fact Edelgard is willing to sacrifice the people, even having them experimented on and turned into monsters, that’s enough to show us where her priorities lie even without adding she’s conscripting civilians who don’t agree with the war.
All this, according to the original text, to put the world the back the way it once was. A world for “humanity,” but the game tells us that era was one where humanity was ruled by a tyrant who persecuted his people, and those people began murdering and stealing in order to gain power for themselves. This is the ideal Edelgard strives for, what she believes will make everything better once she gets rid of everyone who stands in her way. What she is willing to become a monster over.
Tell me, does this sound like the game is saying it is something worth fighting for? Because it sounds more like Edelgard’s rule is the law of the jungle, where the weak are ruled over by the strong or be killed. It’s not humane, it turns people into animals scrambling over each other in pursuit of their own status. Which is fitting, considering what the beast path is in Buddhism and where it leads. You didn’t create a world for humanity. You created a world where people are animals.

I feel like (but it's only hc because as you said, the story is over now!) at the end of the WoH, while there was an "investigation" to determine who helped Nemesis, Rhea (since Seteth left to look for Flayn and their brothers fucked away) had "better" things to do, like rebuild Fodlan and help its people -
(a bit like the three house leaders different reactions in Remire - Edel wants to hunt the ones who did that (with all the dark humour it entails) when Dimtri and Claude want to help/support/look after survivors)
ultimately it wasn't the best choice she made, but given how the Church is still important in 1180, could Rhea truly have said "fig off" to all those people needing support and relief post War of Heroes, aka a war that spanned over 100 years?
(and that's not taking into account Rhea's belief, immediately after the WoH, that Sothis had to return because only she would be able to save the world)
Edelgard is full of nonsense when she says this, Enbarr is older than the Church of Seiros and was already a city when Seteth met his wife in a church (aka a church that existed before the Church of Seiros!), and ultimately created Flayn.
In Nopes, Rhea mentions how Edel's ancestor, her good friend Wilhelm, was a/the lord of Enbarr - but then we also know that Almyra and Brigid also have a nobility system (they have kings!) without the CoS and its crests playing any kind of influence... Nemesis himself was called "King" and the Elites were, iirc, clan leaders? Sure it's not the "nobility" with pretty titles and tights, but a social organisation that predates the Church of Seiros.
So yeah, it's nonsense to hammer how BaD the Church is, even when Petra should be able to rebuke her easily, but in those games, you cannot directly contradict Edel.
As for Church BaD and everyone being a yes man... I'd say it's not that the game wants the player to believe Claude and Edel are right, but more like they are wrong and misguided, but sadly, Byleth can't tell them to shut up and listen to their lesson explaining why their reasoning is full of crap because Byleth is a mute self insert and, again, in those games, you cannot directly contradict Edel.
Claude plays the reverse uno card, where Lorenz says the same things he was parroting in the pre TS about the Church's tenets promoting isolationism, only to grill Lorenz himself about this as he finally read the Seiros Books and says it never did so. Again, the writers couldn't make anyone contradict Claude, so instead, they foddered Lorenz to make Claude "grow up" and still appear as if he is the one who "knows".
For what it's worth, FE Heroes, Fe Cipher (back then!) and to some extent, FE Engage (even if it conveniently avoids mentionning/talking/referecing Nabateans) completely ignore the "church BaD" song and have Seteth, quite randomly, straight up demolish every accusation thrown by Claude or Edel - it never happens in the Fodlan games because 1/you cannot directly contradict Edel and 2/the church is red herring to make a "twist" that akshually, it was Edel behind Flamey's mask! 3/Edel merch has to sell, don't feel bad for her plz buy her merchandise.
Apparently Hubert managed to pinpoint their location by watching Javelins destroy Fort Merceus, I think? But in AM, iirc, Dimtri kills Thales "by accident" so the javelins are never thrown? So yes, I'd say it's the second option, without Thales the Agarthans aren't dangerous anymore?
FWIW, in his ending with Hapi, Dimitri finds Shambala, gets rid of the rest of the Agarthans and all is well that ends well in AM.
Yep, hard agree.
Those routes weren't handled well, but imo that's because the game itself doesn't know what it wants to be - is it a pure player fantasy with a waifu, or is it trying to be interesting with conflicting opinions but since the waifu should be a waifu and the other guy was charactersed as smart, no one can tell them they're sprouting shit - and tbh, if I hade to think about a better way with the routes, I'd yeet Claude from the story, and gice voice lines and develop Byleth's character - even if it means not ending up with the waifu.
FE16 didn't know what to do with its routes.
Quickly dumping out the Enbarr notes, since I'm sure the Shambhala section will have a ton of infodumping to note.
I think the only difference from VW is that we run some weird plan where a lot of our troops sneak into Enbarr ahead of the rest of the army moving in. Because uuuuh I guess we're weaker than the united army with Leicester? Everything else is pretty much exactly the same, including Dedue's part and the Edelgard death cinematic.
tbh I think it actually ends up feeling even weaker here? I thought it would fit better, since this is the "you like Edelgard but can't agree with her" route, but since she appears so little and her writing is so bizarre and confused... It actually feels kinda worse, since her dialogue feels incredibly inconsistent.
I thought I'd have some more appreciation for Edelgard after this route, but uh. I don't. Hm.
Anyway, onto more interesting points, I am starting to get the impression that Rhea and Seteth don't actually know much about the Agarthans. I think they might not actually know that the mysterious "those who slither in the dark" are from Agartha (and that's why they have beef), and it's basically explicit that they don't know who helped Nemesis make the Sword.
Which isn't an issue, but it's hard to remember that they know so little in practice.
Liveblogging:
A priestess mentions that they lost contact with all church personnel in Enbarr when the war started.
A soldier mentions that some of our troops have already departed for Enbarr dressed as merchants and traveling performers. We have an entire plan to have small squads sneak toward the capital and link up with the main army. The Empire apparently thinks we have abandoned our plans to invade (after Merceus).
Sylvain didn't think he's live this long (in the war)... bby. He wants to strike down the empire for Dimtri...
Apparently, we think Rhea is in Enbarr because of a soldier from Merceus. I guess Judith only told us that the Empire captured her. I already forgor.
The pre-battle blurb also mentions the troops moving in secret and our surprise attack on Enbarr. I don't recall this from VW. We were already outnumbered there, so I guess here with just the Church and Judith's troops, we're even worse off.
Based on the map close up during the pre-battle exposition, it looks like Enbarr was built on the delta where a river forks into two, with both ranches leading into the sea on the west.
Oh, Dedue is here! AC lied to me :( (/jk)
The music for his entrance is uh... imo it's a bit too heroic, given that he's here because Dimitri ended up like that.
He came after Gronder field, so... two months ago, since there was Merceus in between but not anything else. He gives us info on the inside of the castle (layout, presumably) and tells us that Rhea is at the palace.
Edelgard's axe, Aymr, is described as "a Crest Stone weapon designed to Edelgard's specifications, allowing her to use Raging Storm."
Edelgard's class, Emperor, is "With unparalleled defense, Edelgard appears as an unstoppable force in the legendary armor of the Adrestian Emperor." Note that her armor is a boobplate. So like... did they modify it for her, or....
Edelgard is so confusing. Even to the last, she goes on about how determined she is to "free this world" from the "vile grasp" of the "false goddess and her minion." But like... Edelgard has NO basis for beef with Sothis or Rhea. It's so puzzling and empty.
Dialogue with Seteth: He tells Edelgard to return Rhea and release her grip on Fodlan. Edelgard says that if we strike her down, "they" will return. So she can't permit what we desire (????? what? like, you'd assume she means the Agarthans, but everything else points to her talking about the Nabateans). She also knows that Seteth is a child of the goddess and thinks he can't be permitted power over the people. This is SO wild.
Anyway, to get this dialogue, I let Seteth get the last hit. The Edelgard death cutscene makes equally little sense on this route, btw. Edelgard was going "fuck you guys, I didn't think you'd make it this far, but I don't care and I'm never giving up" in the battle, but now she's all "you must strike me down to move forward, I wanted to walk with you..." GIRL WHAT
Hubert going behind Edelgard's back to write us a letter where he's basically entrusting the future and Fodlan to us is like....... l m a o This was whatever on VW, but on a route where we are the Church and those lizards Edelgard hates so much... god.
Anyway, Seteth apparently didn't really believe the Agarthans were behind all this, or else even around at all. He's very shocked and unhappy about Hubert's letter.
OK, unlike VW, where Claude is there for the info dumps and Rhea holds at least some stuff back, here she has no reason to hide anything. And she says she does not know where or how Nemesis got the Sword of the Creator. They only guessed that someone must have given him this power and tried to investigate it, but they never found the answer. They only NOW surmise that it was the Agarthans. ...hang on, do they even know that "those who slither in the dark" are from Agartha....
Felix and Sylvain are together at the monastery, cute. Felix even calls Dimitri by name when talking about defeating the Empire and the Agarthans to let him rest in peace.
Catherine backstory: She was born in House Charon in Faerghus > was called Thunderstrike Cassandra > attempted Officers Academy, was saved by Rhea as a student > was implicated in "a plot to kill the king" (seems to be Duscur) > fled to the monastery since she felt it was safe > Rhea hired her > and had her execute Christophe when he tried to assassinate Rhea, though the charges given publicly were regarding Duscur.
Is that right?
Anyway, next time: Shambhala

Colossus computer – The world’s first programmable, electronic computer is being exhibited in Bletchley
A set of computers developed by British code breakers in the years 1943–1945 to help in the cryptanalysis of the Lorenz cipher. The Lorenz were German rotor stream cipher machines used by the German Army during World War II. Lorenz Cipher - Strengths
Large Key Space
The wheels themselves had a large number of positions to start with
The wheels from left to right had 43, 47, 51, 53, 59, 37, 61, 41, 31, 29, 26, 23 starting positions.
This provides us with 43 x 47 x 51 x 53 x 59 x 37 x 61 x 41 x 31 x 29 x 26 x 23 different positions.
16,033,955,073,056,318,658 positions
The cams/pins on each wheel could be set to on or off. There are 501 cams in total hence the total number of combinations is 2501.
2501 or
6546781215792283740026379393655198304433284092086129578966582736192267592809349109766540184651808314301773368255120142018434513091770786106657055178752
Which is an extraordinarily large number
However, in practice it is better to keep the number of “on” cams and the number of “off” cams around the same or else there could be long sections of “on” bits and “off” bits which is a cryptographic weakness.
Therefore, there would be approximately 501C250 + 501C251 different positions
501C250 + 501C251 or
466047029561172264090743443154187143022105742401083940304177233178194162944046576347002990482361149751252938782929918563029312920967516684632997872512
Another enormous number
The total will be the product of the last 2 numbers which will result in another enormous number
The thing is its just a large number of starting positions making it impossible to break through a brute force attack
Wheels have co-prime number of positions
Notice number of positions on different wheels are all co prime to other wheels.
This provides the longest possible time before patterns are repeated. This makes it more difficult to crack through analysing repeating patterns (like in Vigenère)
Used physical wires or directed radio to communicate
This made it harder to intercept the messages, particularly during the war where people were actively trying to prevent people coming into their respective countries.
For the radio signals these directed at the next receiver hence in Britain the signals were very weak.
As missing a single missing or incorrect character could make decryption impossible it required the British to employ some 600 employees just to get interpret the signals properly.
Using XOR function and a pseudo random number generator
A combination of these 2 makes it incredible hard to decipher the message provided that the number generator is highly random.
This combination makes the ciphertext invulnerable to frequency analysis.
Overall the cipher is a very safe cipher as long as the only you and the people you want to send the messages to have knowledge of the intricate workings of the cipher. After the British detected the first messages from the Lorenz cipher, they made little progress on deciphering the ciphers for almost a year. It wasn’t until a human error that spelt the end the beginning of the end for this cipher.

luca and alva in love with a reader they knew before the went to the manor and are reuniting with? (gn reader please!) thank you!
Tumblr media
Request: Luca and Alva in love with reader they've met before entering the manor headcanons
Pairing: [Luca Balsa] Prisoner and [Alva Lorenz] Hermit x gn!survivor!reader
Warnings: None
Tumblr media
Alva Lorenz
Alva cared not for much other than his research, inventions and all of those sorts.
Many called and saw him as heartless but would it even matter if he's a hunter? A predator?
But ever since your arrival, he has been thinking of and spending time with you more often.
His feelings of love for you have yet to cease, you're still the shining diamond in his eyes. The beautiful lone sunflower.
Alva enjoyed and much preferred to watch and admire you from afar, especially if he was lucky enough to be matched up against you.
He always, without an ounce of hesitation, gives up on doing anything if you're in the team of survivors.
He will always trial behind you, observing as you decode those little cipher machines, as you vault windows and wooden pallets.
Maybe at times, he would play around with you a little by stunning you every now and then. Seeing your irritation brings a smile to his face.
However he knows you're not actually mad at him, for you would smile and chuckle it off soon after. And he joins in on the laughing as well.
With you now around, he no longer spends his free time cooped up in his room with his inventions.
He is often seen with you, even if the other little survivors gives him looks of caution and fear, he cares not for their thoughts.
Alva grows more affectionate and loving when he's with you. He is more kind and caring compared to when he's with others.
And of course you do love all the attention and love you're getting that others will never be able to see from the Hermit.
"Ti voglio bene (I love you)." is something he says often, however you do not know what he's saying, and any attempt to ask him will not be met with the desired answer you seek for.
Regardless, it makes your cheeks flush and heart flutter whenever he says those three words.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Luca Balsa
You could hardly recognise Luca who used to looked like a total gentleman when you two reunited.
Luca was both different and yet the same in terms of both his appearance and personality.
He was still the machinery-crazed man, or more so the smart student Luca Balsa who made the greatest of inventions.
He is loud and active; The "prisoner" loved and can't seem to help himself from rambling about his thoughts on certain things he's working on.
But of course you didn't mind his endless rambling. You loved seeing him this happy, you enjoyed how he almost buzzes about with electricity as he explains what this or that does.
During matches, Luca will always connect your cipher to his so he could help you decode faster.
He would always be close by to electrocute the hunter as you're being picked up, even going as far as to tank a hit for you.
Sometimes he turns the match for the better, other times for the worse. And no matter the scoldings he gets, he continues doing it anyways.
Some have gotten tired of trying to get him not to play such reckless moves, but are they really reckless if it helps you? If he was the one aiding you to sweet desired escape?
Sometimes when your eyes meet, you swore you could've seen hearts in his eyes as he stares back at you with the cheekiest of smiles.
Luca doesn't have the greatest of memories but one thing he won't ever forget, is his undying love for you.
The time will come where he'll be ready enough to tell you of his feelings ever since back during that faithful day in the ball.

Greetings! Something to report! The Gatekeeper is FINALLY here!!!
And he brought some friends with him! How adorable. I like how the artist referenced the art from his Cipher card by including some cute pets. The monastery itself is so funny. Srsly, the whole thing shows up when he gets summoned?! I love it! 😂
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For real, let us all commend IS for being creative with his weapon! 👏🏻 We really expected him to be a lance unit but seeing him blowing a horn is super dope! Plus, he brings even more friends to the fray.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ik many of you are sick of 3H banners but it’s nice to see cameos of characters in and not in FEH. It also gives us a clue as to what weapons those who are yet to be added to FEH will get (like Bow Cyril, Lance Cav Sylvain, Tome Lorenz and Sword Alois?). Sure nothing beats L! Byleth throwing random bullshit but tbh, this is easily the 2nd best tome animation for me! (Sorry for the low pic quality, this is the highest YT could give. Note that Alois ONLY appears on the Japanese FEH channel)
Tumblr media
Overall, Gatekeeper was really worth the hype and like many people, I’m very happy with how he came out. Thank you to those who voted for him! Y’all made this wholesome of a meme, a reality.

Re-built Colosuss, National Museum of Computing, Bletchley, England.
Colossus was a set of computers developed by British codebreakers in the years 1943–1945 to help in the cryptanalysis of the Lorenz cipher. Colossus used thermionic valves (vacuum tubes) to perform Boolean and counting operations. Colossus is thus regarded as the world's first programmable, electronic, digital computer, although it was programmed by switches and plugs and not by a stored program.
