Lots of trios are discussed but one I think about a lot and that I also think is unappreciated is Lorenz, Ferdinand and Sylvain. The High Society Noble of each house.

I think Sylvain often gets separated from these two because he doesn't appear to follow the same noble mindset as Lorenz and Ferdinand both do.

They all have highly critical parents. They're expected to marry a high society noble woman. They're all expected to have a crest baby. They're all expected to act prim and proper.

Lorenz follows this the most but he's heavily disconnected from religion. He has the best relationship with working but he still holds himself to a very high standard. I also think he has the best relationship with his parents. His father is dismissive of him but he is also the one who allows Lorenz his own opinions once he believes that Lorenz will be able to lead Gloucester and steer Claude down the right path. This is not to say in any way that Count Gloucester isn't brutal with Lorenz, but out of the three of them, Lorenz has the best relationship with his father.

Ferdinand believes in the Noble lifestyle but he's disinterested in marriage and he seems the most connected to the religion out of the three but I headcannon that after he leaves House Aegir, he finds himself unable to connect to the Goddess because he feels as though he's connecting himself to his father. He overworks himself. He's okay at everything but he doesn't excel anywhere. Ferdinand is the best out of the three at knowing when he's made a mistake and owning up to it. He's the best at acknowledging his own failures and growing from them and trying to become a better person through it.

Sylvain has rejected it all entirely, he's somewhat religious but resents the Goddess (headcannon from @faerghusfucker). Sylvain is naturally very intelligent but doesn't apply himself cuz he doesn't care anymore (or at least that's what he tells himself). Sylvain knows what he's been brought up to be and he can see the deceit and wrongness in it, unlike the other two. However, he chooses to take this out on women instead of learning how to cope with his own issues that have been ingrained in him at birth and trying to break the cycle instead.

All three of them have major character development that shows them out-growing the beliefs that were instilled in them as children within the noble system, post-ts.

Ferdinand detaches himself almost entirely from what a noble should be and instead, rewrites it to fit into his moral code. The noble standard changes for him and he's loses a lot of the arrogance that made him so grating pre-ts. He starts trying to detach himself from what his father has made of House Aegir and starts trying to write a new chapter for his home whilst acknowledging the damage his father did and trying to repair it.

Lorenz also loses some of his bravado. He's able to treat others like friends and accept that they too have good qualities that make them fit to rule over their provinces. He's much less... creepy towards women and accepts that his treatment of them was crude and ignored their own desires.

Sylvain goes down a similar path to Lorenz, but instead of losing a lot of his behaviours, he starts to come to terms with why he is doing it and begins unlearning his misogyny from the roots of where it has grown from. He is more emotionally honest with his friends and begins to treat women like actual human beings and not just something to stick his cock in.

Fundamentally. I think the three of them would have been friends as children. Their fathers would have vaguely approved of each other (although I cannot imagine Matthias and Ludwig getting on). But I think they would have liked their children handing out because they would have been the three well-behaved, proper, noble children.

I think Sylvain was often the third-wheel with Lorenz and Ferdinand (another headcannon from @faerghusfucker). I think Ferdinand looked up to Lorenz heavily and followed him around everywhere and I think Lorenz liked having someone almost a year younger than him who would agree with everything he said and idolise him. I don't think Sylvain was like that. I think as children, Sylvain would challenge Lorenz on things they disagreed with and they would get into arguments whilst Ferdinand stood to the side all confused and teary-eyed because he hated watching his friends fight.

I think Ferdinand only started disagreeing with Lorenz when he was around sixteen and finally started breaking away from all the noble traditions that he'd been raised on after realising that he was hurting people with his actions and beliefs.

I think Sylvain drifted away from them by the time the Tragedy of Duscur happened, and then he never really spoke to either of them after that up until the all arrived at the academy.

I WISH Sylvain and Ferdinand had supports together because I would have loved to see them talking about nobility together and disagreeing over the fundamentals of what they believe. But alas, no.
