“i’ve never done a ghost story before...”

Till death do us part: Matt and Lisa are torn apart – but why?
3 MIN READ
PLATFORM 7 | ITVX THURSDAY
This supernatural thriller – based on Louise Doughty’s 2019 novel of the same name – follows Lisa Evans, a young woman who frequents platform seven of a railway station. After witnessing a tragic event at the depot, Lisa’s blurred memories come into focus, unearthing a connection between that moment and her own life – and death. The four-parter stars Jasmine Jobson (Top Boy) as Lisa; Toby Regbo (A Discovery Of Witches) as her boyfriend Matt; Rhiannon Clements (Hollyoaks’ Summer Ranger) as Lisa’s best friend Izzy, and telly veteran Phil Davis as Edward – a man with an unearthly connection to Lisa. Here, Jasmine, and Toby tell Inside TV more…
Hi, both! What appealed to you about this series?
Jasmine It has to be the supernatural thing. There’s something about being a spirit and being around people without their knowledge, and playing about with them when they’ve irritated you! And I hadn’t played anybody like Lisa before, so it was also about trying something new.
Toby This is the first modern piece I’ve done in ages. I seem to just do period dramas! So to make the switch towards psychological realism, I feel as though you can get away with more. And I’ve never done a ghost story before.
Tumblr media
The doctor will see you now: Matt and Lisa feel the chemistry
It must feel strange not acknowledging that the other actor is there?
Jasmine Yeah, it definitely felt weird being in scenes yet not really being involved. I had to get used to not having anything to say!
Toby Trying to pretend that somebody isn’t there is surprisingly difficult. It’s interesting how your body just responds to somebody being there, like trying to pass right beside someone without making any little movements that you naturally do to accommodate another human being.
How was it playing those moments where Lisa walks through walls?
Jasmine So that took a while to figure out. I’d walk through open doors, and I accidentally pushed a door open once! But once we knew what we were doing, it was wicked.
Toby, do you think that Matt believes in ghosts?
Toby No – I think, as a doctor, he’s a man of science. I don’t think he has any inkling that Lisa is standing behind him, nor that he has a sense thatt there’s life after death. Which is interesting in terms of where the story goes…
There’s also an important relationship between Edward and Lisa – Jasmine, what was it like working with Phil Davis?
Jasmine Oh, Phil was absolutely amazing. He’s such a phenomenal actor. Our scenes together were very special. It was a delight to have him at the station playing Edward – who has quite an interesting secret of his own…
Do you believe in ghosts?
Jasmine I sometimes see spirits and I can tell if there’s a presence around me. One thing that I’ve always been aware of is you must never say hello to them if they’re in your home. You need sage and frankincense, and you need to bless your house.
Toby I haven’t had any first-hand experiences with the supernatural and I’ve always tended to err on the side of the material. However, that doesn’t mean to say that when I’m staying at my friend’s place in the Dorset countryside, when the moon’s out and there are owls, that I don’t sprint across the lawn to get back inside the house!
CHIEF in-spectre
RHIANNON CLEMENTS TELLS US HOW HER ALTER EGO TURNS AMATEUR SLEUTH…
When it comes to her best friend’s untimely passing, Rhiannon’s character is fixed on finding the truth…
“The big thing for Izzy is that she doesn’t believe Lisa’s death was suicide,” she says. “She thinks that there’s something else to be uncovered – and won’t let it lie till she knows what.”
As for believing in the supernatural, making the series led to a spooky coincidence for the star...
“Phil’s character has a dog, and in some scenes, it barks at what’s seemingly an empty space,” shares Rhiannon. “I recently moved into a Victorian house, and my dog has now started barking at empty spaces. It does leave me with chills!”

Crossfire. BBC.
‘A holiday turns from heaven to hell with a gunshot – and the consequences will linger long after the final bullets are fired.’ Written by Louise Doughty and starring Keeley Hawes. What would you do if it happened to you? (Louise Doughty) Binged the three episodes of this last night. Reading the reviews, the ending has divided its audience. Gripping and fast moving. I liked it.

Plansters The Literary Community live writing class covered organic writing, Pansters (by the seat of) like me and Planning (Plot).  Before joining up, I had thought there was only one way: A to Z via B and C, and it held me back for yonks.  Because I don’t know my origins, having been abandoned and spending my first two years in Hong Kong orphanages, I felt I couldn’t get out of the blocks.  Many people enquiring about my past have encouraged me to get the story down; the first overseas adoptions to the UK in the 50s and 60s and our ground breaking, if somewhat eccentric, experiences.  I don’t do straight lines; personality-wise, I’m all over the place, pinging off in all directions.  It was a revelation that I’m not alone and some very successful writers are happy to fly this way.  Louise Doughty of Apple Tree Yard and Crossfire fame creates from a single striking scene and develops a story around it.  In a previous class, she suggested that Chapter One didn’t have to begin at the beginning; I could start in the middle.  So I did and I haven’t stopped since.  I now have a stream of consciousness anecdotes bubbling forth daily which I’m using to commit to the #100 Days of Writing Challenge that I have often started but never once completed.  I’m practising in the same way I taught myself watercolour painting during Lockdown – posting the results and, hopefully, the progress on social media. At some point I’ll get it in some kind of order, chronologically, perhaps, or not.  Imagine applying PRINCE2 principles?  Project Management.  Gordon Bennett, that will make me a Planster. #writing #book #booklover #creativewriting #RamblingOn #MindNinja #ChinWag #Cl-airBrush #memories #memoir #100daysofwriting #journaling #plan #plot #prince2 #projectmanagement #project https://www.instagram.com/p/CpIPbamIy9k/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🎶✨ when u get this u have to put 5 songs u actually listen to. then send this ask or tag 10 of your favourite followers (non-negotiable, positivity is cool)✨🎶
Thank you @greenlikethesea for the tag. I'm sick and miserable so an excuse to listen to some of my favorite songs and share them with people is exactly what I needed today.
I'm choosing to take "actually listen to" to mean "pay attention to when I hear them."
Saint Louise is Listening by Soul Coughing
I almost picked this song as my anti-Vecna song, because when it plays it's all I think about. I went in a different direction with that because while I can't feel pain while this song is playing I can't feel anything else, either. Mike Doughty's solo version is also very good, but doesn't quite have the same soul numbing effect, though that is probably more the difference between hearing a song for the first time at 30 vs at 15 than any changes he made.
Kashmir by Led Zeppelin
I remember when smart phones were new things there was this ad for, I think, an iphone. It was making the point that you could listen to your music on your phone, and it would pause automatically when someone called. The ad used this song and I remembered turning to my boyfriend and saying something along the lines of "but if a call interrupted Kashmir I would be so pissed." What idiot ever thought people would want those horns to go silent so their bank could ask them to complete a customer satisfaction survey? When this song plays, I put my phone in airplane mode.
Trouble no More by The Allman Brothers Band
I could really put any Allman Brothers Band song on this list. Their music, particularly their live recordings, is fantastic. Lyrically they're a bit meh, but honestly who cares about the lyrics when the guitars sound like that? There is also a nostalgia factor, as they are very much the soundtrack of my childhood.
The Mountain by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer
Another case where I could have chosen any number of songs by this duo. I chose The Mountain because it's the one that's been on my mind the most lately. The three albums they released before Dave Carter's death are not merely musically beautiful but lyrically interesting, frequently dense with metaphor. If you hear someone arguing song lyrics don't deserve to be treated like poetry, point them at this group. Dave Carter and Mike Doughty have been vying for the title of favorite song writer since 1998, and if their music were anything alike maybe I'd be able to make a final determination.
The Mouse Police Never Sleeps by Jethro Tull
Yes, it's about a cat. Nothing deep about this one, I just find it amusing.
Who shall I tag in this? With absolutely no pressure to respond: @babeluda @motsimages @ruffbun @sharpbutsoft @jaewul @sthound @counting-dollars-counting-stars @anarchyiswhathewouldhavewanted @nico-di-angelfish @flashyysins

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
Adapted by veteran screenwriter Paula Milne from Apple Tree Yard author Louise Doughty's bestselling novel, Platform 7 is an intriguing drama with a great cast. Jasmine Jobson (from gangster drama Top Boy) is our heroine Lisa, a young woman who has considerably more of a past than she does a future. .....
With a BAFTA, Emmys and a stellar career spanning five decades, both here and in Hollywood, Paula Milne has nothing to prove to anyone, least of all me. Nonetheless, Platform 7's screenplay is clearly the work of a writer of a certain age.
'Culture is the sign of a civilised society. It's there for everyone who wants it,' Lisa lectures boyfriend Matt (Toby Regbo, excellent) in flashback.
'For everyone who wants to understand who we are as human beings. Our internal lives. And how we feel and relate to each other.'
Sorry, Ms Milne, but Lisa (a 30-year-old English and drama teacher) talks like no Millennial I've ever come across! Still, this is a minor quibble.
Platform 7 takes viewers on an entirely unexpected – and unexpectedly entertaining – journey, during which (thanks to the fabulous Ms Jobson) you won't stop rooting for Lisa's uneasy soul to finally rest in peace."
