So I’m “shooting for the hoops” as they say, and really trying to practice on complex compositions for my class this fall. This image I’m referencing is a shot from the 1997 game 7 playoffs between the Chicago Bulls and the Utah Jazz, 2 games after the event otherwise known as Michael Jordan’s “Flu game” because he apparently got food poisoning from some bad pizza hours prior but played anyways. The original photo was taken by Nathaniel S. Butler, who has had a storied career doing photography for the NBA since the 80s; his work is really quite beautiful, so I hope in this illustrative study I’ve captured some the energy and grace he puts into his work.
