recently remembered that a gender and sexualities studies prof i had in college mentioned to me that there's a steroid precursor in some type(s?) of yams that can be converted into sex hormones (testosterone, estrone, estradiol).

and there's more info on the chemical processes here, but basically, this was a synthetic process worked out with Mexican yams in the 1930s-40s.

anyway all of this is to say that i have a headcanon that Hange would've worked out HRT in the SnK universe. from yams.

it was another day, simple as that.

the sun came up, got covered by clouds, and a light rain hung around all day. that would have been more than enough for him; people were less excitable on rainy days, less likely to try and shock him with surprises or dragging him out on excursions that were really more them than him. that’s a grumpy way to think of it, his supervisor had mumbled in the elevator, face hidden by the height of a staunchly heavy box they were both holding up — or rather, Kei was holding up, seeing as his supervisor was a small old man. it wasn’t grumpy, just — his way of seeing things, is all. he didn’t usually see himself as very special, so his logic tracked, in his own head, anyway.

that being said... there were always exceptions; and those exceptions always belonged to Yamaguchi Tadashi.

“I love you too,” were always his first words to Tadashi whenever he got home, no matter what annoyances, evils, or trials had plagued him throughout the day. a smile had spread across his cheeks, one that only grew when he leaned down to heave Tadashi up into his arms, wrapping the shorter man’s legs around his waist. “How do you manage to outdo yourself every year with the setup? Love the dinosaur candles, those are new. And oh — sorry, I should have remembered I’m still a bit wet from being outside. Looks like we both have to change into pyjamas, huh? What a terrible shame —” he chortled out, carrying his lover back into their bedroom to get ready for the night.

happy birthdays only ever happened with Tadashi, and that tradition was never going to change.
