Today (May 5th) is Missing and Murdered Indigenous Persons Awareness day.
Native American folks continue to have very high rates of homicide and violence against them. Murder is the 3rd-leading cause of death for Native girls and women. More than 4 in 5 Native American people have experienced violence in their lifetimes, more than 90% of these from non-Native perpetrators. Most of these have not seen justice.
I want to uplift some events near me, and I would encourage fellow non-Native folks to look into the Native American communities in your area to find education, events, and fundraisers.
On May 6th, the MMIP Central Oklahoma Chapter is hosting a memorial walk and relevant speakers at the state capitol.
On May 10th, the CPN House of Hope is hosting a remembrance walk in Shawnee, OK.
On May 11th, the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma is hosting a community 5k/1 mile run in Antlers, OK with Choctaw vendor booths.
Here is a list of some other events for MMIP across the nation.

Today is MMIWG(2S)/P awareness day
Tumblr media
MMIW stands for Missing (or/and) Murdered Indigenous Women. The G sometimes added on stands for Girls and the 2S stands for two spirit. With the alternative of MMIP, meaning Missing/Murdered Indigenous Person.
Today is the day to spread awareness of the ongoing genocide of our women, girls, and two spirit people as well as any other native. Though my own heritage was not the main contributing factor to me being trafficked as a child- others are targeted for trafficking solely because they are native. People raised on reservations are especially at risk of this harm as well as murder.
Tumblr media
40% of all trafficking victims in the USA are Native American. I am one of that statistic, I survived by dumb luck. Others were not as lucky as me. Many do not survive and many do not get free of the situations which they are stuck in.

reminder to (if you can!) braid your hair today; the Rising Hearts organisation have asked for everybody who can braid their hair to do so today for Cole Brings Plenty. a young native American man who was found murdered with his hair cut in a hate crime. on their Instagram, Rising Hearts stated:
Tumblr media
On Monday, April 8th, wear your braids. Show your braids. Indigenous or not, wear a braid, wear 2 braids, wear many. We wear braids as a community for Cole Brings Plenty and his family. For all indigenous peoples with braids. For the many, past and present, whose braids were cut and attacked. If you don't have hair to braid, share others posts or this post on Monday. Tag @rising_hearts #BraidsForCole
Our hair is sacred. Braids are sacred. Connects us to our ancestors, to community, to ceremony.
Cole Brings Plenty, 27, Lakota, actor (Yellowstone spinoff 1923, and more), family member, and student, was taken from Unči Maka 🌍 too soon. An indigenous relative was taken.
Join Rising Hearts on Monday as we honor Cole's life by braiding our hair in his memory, for all the sacred hair and braids in our communities. Lay some tobacco down. Send up your prayers.
We send our love and support to the Brings Plenty family and his communities. This is a tragic and heartbreaking loss. Justice for Cole. 🤎🪶

This has been on my heart for a long time now, and I finally put (some of) my thoughts down in writing. This led to a lot of statistical analysis and research, which led to this article. Painful process, painful truths. First Nations people are encouraged to read at their own discretion, given the sensitive content. (yes, it's very different to the theme/content of the two other posts in my substack, but I didn't know where else to put it all.)

Hey, fun fact! See this young man? He was found dead in a forest. They chopped his hair off while he was intoxicated and tossed him in a forest. He was murdered. The media says there was "no foul play" surrounding his death, too. His name was Cole Brings Plenty, and he was murdered at age 27. Murdered. Stop covering it up. Stop lying to protect the people involved. They killed him.

I was about to be his biggest fan..I am heartbroken…Cole Brings Plenty was not only beautiful on the outside, but just as beautiful on the inside…He was so extremely important..We need more people in our generation (I’m 33) who are revitalizing and rediscovering their culture and heritage. Cole Brings Plenty set an example for those of us with indigenous blood. I will never forget him. Long Live Cole Brings Plenty. You’ll always have my heart ❤️🪶💔

For those of you who don’t know, Cole Brings Plenty, was missing last week & they recently found his body in the woods. (the investigation is still on going but this is what I gathered/read as of today) His Uncle Moe Brings Plenty stars in Yellowstone & Cole was in Yellowstone’s prequel 1923. I hope Cole and his family gets the justice they deserve. Prayers go out to his family & all of the Missing Murder Indigenous People .🤎🪶🫶🏼

For MMIWG2S awareness to action week we have compiled a document to inform readers about the ongoing genocide of Indigenous people across the globe and ways you can take action and say enough is enough. The document also contains resources for Indigenous people at risk of or experiencing intimate partner violence as well as toolkits for what to do when a Native woman goes missing in your community.
You can read it here

I'm going to use my platform here for something unrelated to the Lost Boys for a moment—something more important. The death of Cole Brings Plenty has torn me. I can't seem to wrap my head around it. I can't imagine a world without him. So, I'm hoping to raise awareness by spreading the word about the MMIP. His family is now in a fight to find out what happened, and I really hope and pray that they do. #JusticeForCole #JusticeForCoco

Cole Brings Plenty’s death was said to show “no signs of foul play”, ruled as a suicide, and the case was closed. I’ve seen from several sources they also tried to say it was a cardiac event. Alexis Zabala openly admitted to having something to do with his disappearance in a Facebook comment section. Her own cousin went to the police and they brushed her off and kept diverting to the DV allegations against Cole. Stand with us in demanding a thorough investigation and share this petition!!

I’m wearing braids today for Cole Brings Plenty and the Brings Plenty family, who have suffered a terrible loss. Cole Brings Plenty was murdered and his braids cut off. Today we wear braids to show solidarity with the Brings Plenty family and the indigenous peoples of the world - who have faced far too much violence and oppression. We see you, we stand with you.
Rest in power, Cole.

It's national Red Dress Day in Canada.
Indigenous women, girls, and two spirits across the continents of North and South America face higher rates of violence, murder, and abduction than their non-indigenous peers.
Today is a great day to learn about MMIW2S, or perhaps the indigenous nation your colony is currently occupying and how that nation is working towards Land Back. You can help defeat settler colonialism and end the ongoing genocides of these continents. 🥰

Today is May 5th, Red dress day. Red Dress Day honours the memories of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls across Canada. Métis artist Jaime Black helped inspire the red dress movement, where red dresses are hung from windows and trees to represent the pain and loss felt by loved ones and survivors. Remember and Honour all of the Native Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two spirits that have gone missing and have been murdered. Most of these cases are never heard in the public and they are sadly forgotten. But everyday is a good day to spread awareness for all Indigenous people, I want to share my culture and help others understand the importance of sharing stories from these victims.
Here are some links for information and indigenous accounts to support,
