I was genuinely surprised that there haven't been a series of playline Barbies to celebrate the 2024 Olympics. Not every Olympics has had playline toys, to be fair, but I have been waiting and refreshing every source I can think of, convinced that Mattel would do it this year. But either they've slowrolled it until the last minute, or they have decided not to do an Olympic collection.
In the lead-up to the Olympics, Mattel announced back in May a nine-doll one of a kind series honouring female athletes. They didn't explicitly mention the 2024 Olympics in their press release, but it was tied back to the Olympics by other sources reporting on it.
This line-up included Venus Williams, Australia's own Mary Fowler, as well as Christine Sinclair, Estelle Mossely, Alexa Moreno, Rebeca Andrade, Susana Rodriguez, Federica Pellegrini and Ewa Swoboda.
The same Mattel press release made no mention of playline dolls to tie into the Olympics, but did promise a range of soccer players as well as representations of basketball, gymnastics, boxing, tennis and volleyball to hit the playline in 2024.
Which also meant a new range of made to move bodies for the doll modder community.
This is Oracle and Batgirl. What's your situation, Huntress?
Babs & Cass are outfitted! I'd like to make them a proper background, more clothes, computers/gadgets, and someday find Cass a petite Made to Move body, but for now I'm very excited to have them looking like themselves!
Barbara Gordon / Oracle is Signature Looks #13, who has a Made to Move Classic body, and the Victoria face sculpt screened with green eyes, blue eyeshadow, brickish red lips, and freckles.
Babs has a lot of curly red hair that I've pulled back in a low loose ponytail to get her profile closer to the 1990's/2000's Scully-esque long bob. Honestly the gorgeous mass of curls would be perfect for her if I was making her original Batgirl style. Maybe someday!
Cassandra Cain / Batgirl is Fashionista #145, who has a Petite minimal-articulation body, and the Mbili face sculpt screened with brown eyes, several beauty marks, and light peach lips.
Cass came with long dark brown hair with blonde highlights. I cut it, gave her bangs, and used Sharpie to darken the blonde... but it ran when I did the boil-wash to reshape her hair and got on her face. Can't get it off so far. Fortunately it's not as visible in photos as in person, and hey, this is Cass. It's in character for her to have grime or bruises.
Babs' strappy blue heels & Cass's yellow hightop converse are the shoes they came with. Babs' pants & Cass's top are from Disney ILY Ursula Fan. I hand sewed Cass's pants & Babs' shirt. The wheelchair is from Fashionista #194. Babs' glasses are jewelry wire I wrapped around a pen several times & pinches into shape.
When I was getting my new Barbie (right) I noticed her fingers kept getting caught and BENDING. I was suddenly wondering if MTM bodies were always like that and I forgot, but nope! That's new!

That was totally spontaneous. I bought a second-hand Pilot Barbie 1999, got rid of her damaged body and put the head on Made to Move body. The skin tone match isn't perfect but I don't mind. I've always thought that particular Barbie with Mackie mold resembles Harry Makepeace from "Dempsey & Makepeace" so yeah, it will be my own Sgt. Makepeace. I intend to give her some 80s clothes and props. Meanwhile, that jacket belonging to Jazzie is the most 80s looking piece I have for my 1/6 dolls. Of course my pretty detective needs a gun and badge but I didn't have time to prepare them in advance. The motorcycle belongs to Flavas doll and I used it just for this one photoshoot. Some time ago I got second-hand Flavas dolls Tre and Kiyoni but without a motorbike. Last week I managed to buy the bike and I really like it despite all the scratches and loose mirrors.
That's what the doll and the bike looked like when I got them. I had no intention of keeping the doll's original body so I really didn't mind buying it damaged. The bike is in decent condition and so is my Tre. I just need to give Tre a wig or something 'cause his flocked hair is almost gone.
She's the MTM purple top Lea rebodied onto a Model Muse body, wearing Disney's Mulan red dress. I actually have another doll in mind for this outfit so the Lea is just temporary.
Here she is with her red cheongsam Lunar New Year friends:
