What really gets me about today's @a-mag-a-day episode is that if what Anabelle claims is true (and it's the Web, I never trust them to tell the truth), Jon has been manipulated all his life.
MAG 160 already was a gut punch, because every step Jon took, every attempt to do something good like saving Daisy and Martin, was just another checked mark on Jonah's to do list. So bad enough that during his entire time at the institute his life used to further the terrible plan of some Victorian prick, but at least Jonah explicitly said that it was just Jon's own rotten luck. Could've been anyone.
But now the Web says they chose the most likely candidate and shaped his whole life to fit what they needed for their plan. Jon's whole fucking life not a single choice mattered*, because the literal embodiment of humanity's fear of being manipulated railroaded his life to end at this exact point. It's like a shitty RPG where you get the illusion of choice but the ending stays the same, no matter what you do. It's exactly like Annabelle said in 147:
Free will is simply ignorance. It’s just the name we give to the fact that no one can ever really see everything that controls them.
And it pisses me off, because later in that statement she claims this:
So I thought perhaps I should leave a little something to reassure you that, yes, your actions and choices have all been your own.
Have they been controlled? No more than gravity controls you when you walk, or hunger controls you when you choose your meal. There are certainly new forces, new instincts and desires, that shape your actions; perhaps you’re unprepared for them.
But if you choose to believe in a free will, then yes: All you have done has been of your own free will. They have all been your choices.
Because free will is bullshit if you take away the other options. It's bullshit if you manipulate the gravity around someone to push them a certain direction.
And I'm a bit sad that we never really got the chance to see the repercussions of this revelation. Because what does that knowledge do to a person? That ultimately invisible strings have been pupeteering you all your life to make just the right choices?
Jon said he has never felt more powerless than when Daisy took him to the woods to kill him. Well, what's more powerless than to look back at your life and realise the power to decide over your own fate has never been truly there?
Idk, something about Jon being manipulated by both Jonah and the Mother of Puppets. But Jonah was just a man, using Jon for a few years, and the Web is an eldritch force looming over his whole life.
*of course not every single choice. It mattered that he chose to trust his friends. It mattered that he chose to love Martin. But in the end none of that changed the ultimate outcome.

Redemption Round 2 - Match 63
You could say that Connected was a bit of a... Time of Revelation... Connected earned 78 votes in Round Two, for a total of 204 votes! It's against Time of Revelation, which left Round One with 150 votes, but stuck in through Redemption Round One with 131 votes! Can it keep its momentum?

I HATE the phrasing of this btw. Because Jon does not believe himself to be a very good person, or a person even.

And on this day, 2 years ago, a collective scream of "THAT GODDAMN LIGHTER!!!" was heard around the world.
And we became very suspicious of any other lighters in media...
For a good reason too!!
