Pablo Gavi- Teach me
A/n: I know Gavi didn’t play in the second leg against Man Utd but let’s just pretend he did
wc: 2.3k
Today has just been one of those days everything has just not gone my way. This morning the shower in my room at university didn't work and since I've dropped seemingly everything I've picked up and I just can't figure out how to start my next assignment. In hopes to clear my mind I decided to go for a walk as usually that helps me sort my head out and get myself back in a good mind set. My walk was really nice for a while until I got into the town which was heaving with people. Usually it's busy but today it was just manic which was making me more stressed than I was before I left.
Once I got a bit further I realised that I came out not too long before Manchester United play Barcelona in the europa league. Had I known the game was on I would never have come this way as usually I avoid going anywhere near the stadium on game days as it gets so busy but now I'm committed to going this way I will just have to deal with it. The last time I accidentally came near the stadium on a game day when I first moved here I found a back road that was a lot more quiet so I made my way through the crowds until I found the street. The street goes around the back of the stadium which is why it's so quiet but I like it as it gave me my chance to relax like I wanted.
While walking I took my phone out of my coat pocket to change the song playing in my ears as it wasn't one I was feeling at the moment. Just as I looked down at my phone it was like I walked into a wall and all of a sudden I nearly fell backwards and my phone went crashing to the floor. It was clear to me that to top my bad day off I'd just walked into someone. I almost didn't want to look up and see the person who was probably going to yell at me but I did anyway. When I did look up I nearly fell over again as my eyes were met with probably the most attractive guy I've ever met so I cursed myself even more. The guy bent down and picked up my phone handing it back to me so I could see that it was completely smashed but luckily it still worked.
"I'm so sorry I wasn't paying attention to where I was going are you ok" I apologised
"I-it's ok" the guy replied with a very thick Spanish accent
"Are you ok?" He asked
"I'm fine but my phone not so much" I joked trying to make light of the situation
The guy laughed before signalling for someone else nearby to come over who he talked to in what I assume was Spanish while I just watched. I wasn't really sure if I was supposed to keep standing there but I did anyway as it's not like I understood what they were saying. To me it sounded like they were arguing but eventually they stopped talking and the other guy turned to face me.
"Hey I'm Ferran and this is Pablo he wants to invite you to watch the game later but he doesn't know how to say it" Ferran said
"It's nice to meet you both I'm y/n, I'd love to come to the game but only if it's no trouble I've already caused enough problems here today" I said
"It's not problem at all Pablo here would love to have you watch" Ferran said
"Then I'd love to" I replied
After agreeing to go to the game Pablo ran off and went to talk to someone else and when he came back he handed me a ticket to the game which when I glanced at seemed to be a vip ticket. He then managed to ask me to meet him after the game and Ferran told me just to show my ticket and give the security my name and they would let me in. With that they both ran off towards the stadium and I was left completely shocked and confused as to what just happened. It felt like a fever dream but it was definitely real life and now I had about an hour and a half before I was supposed to be going to a football game. Luckily that is enough time to go home and get changed and hopefully do some research on this game as I know very little about football.
Gavi's POV
Before any game I go through the same routine but tonight that routine has gone out the window. On the way into the stadium someone walked into me which usually would be a bit annoying but I would just move on but when I looked at who walked into me I saw the most beautiful girl I've ever seen. In that moment I decided that I couldn't just let her leave for me never to see her again so I invited her to the game or well Ferran did as I didn't know how to say it in English. The fact that I couldn't talk to her is exactly why my routine has changed as I need to learn as much English as possible before I see her after the game.
Most of the guys only speak Spanish but some have played over here and know some English so I begged them to teach me some English. Of course everyone laughed at me that all it took was a girl to finally make me learn English but eventually they agreed to help me after I told them she would be coming to the game later. To start with they were teaching me things that I won't be using later and I know not to use them as they were giggling as they taught me the words which means they are things that will either make me look like a weirdo or make her hate me. Once they had their fun they started to take things seriously and taught me basic sentences to use. it was hard to learn a language so quickly but I wrote some of them down on my phone just in case I forget. Even during warm up I kept practicing to make sure I don't make a fool of myself.
Instead of focusing on the game like I should be during warm up I also looked around the stadium to see if y/n had actually turned up. I mean I wouldn't blame her if she didn't show up as she clearly didn't know who I was so to her it was just some random guy inviting her to a game. As warm up went on I was starting to think she wouldn't show up when I couldn't see her but right before we went back down the tunnel I saw her walk in and start looking around. Knowing she actually came gave me even more motivation to win this game and impress her.
Your POV
I pretty much ran home to put on a nicer outfit before heading straight back out to go to the stadium. I have never been to a football match before mainly because I don't have much of an interest in the sport but when you get invited to a game by a very attractive guy you just have to go so that's exactly what I did. On my walk back to the stadium I tried looking up a bit about the game and I found out that it's the second leg of this game and that currently the score is  2-2 draw which means either team has a chance of making it. Living in Manchester I know a bit about the united team but I know next to nothing about Barcelona so I focused my search on them.
When looking at the Barcelona players I almost dropped my phone out of pure shock. Right in front of me listed as one of the players was Pablo and Ferran. When I googled him I only got more flustered as he is my age and has already played in the World Cup and won trophies for how talented he is. All of a sudden I felt really stupid that I'd just so casually spoken to such a famous footballer without having any clue who he was. As much as it's embarrassing I clearly didn't make an awful impression as he still invited me to watch the game so I need to put it behind me and just try not to make more of a fool of myself.
It took me forever to find the entrance I was supposed to go in once I made it to the stadium but eventually I found my way into the stadium but then I had to find my seat which involved a lot of walking back and forth but once I reached the right section it was easy to find my seat. As I sat down I noticed the players heading back in from the pitch from what I assume was their warm up. I didn't see Pablo but I knew he would have been out there as he was named in the starting line up. With the few minutes I had before the match started I spent my time trying to use google translate to learn a bit of Spanish as Pablo only speaks Spanish so I want to be able to talk to him after the game. Of course I know that everything might not be incredibly accurate but anything is better than nothing and I'm sure he will understand most of what I say.
Soon enough the game started and Barcelona got off to a great start by scoring a penalty putting them ahead overall. The first half ended with the same score but once the second half kicked off it only took a few minutes for Manchester United to score making things level again. From then the match was hard to watch as Barcelona were really struggling and eventually the inevitable happened Man Utd scored their second goal putting them ahead with about 15 minutes left. I really hoped that Barcelona could bring it back but they just couldn't get close enough and the game ended with Man Utd making it through to the next round and Barcelona being left disappointed. As much as I'd only been invested in this matched for a few hours I still felt awful for the whole team but especially Pablo as I could see the disappointment on his face from my seat.
I stayed sat in the stands for a few minutes deciding whether Pablo would even want to still see me after the game but in the end I just decided to go for it as if I don't I'm never going to see him again and if things go wrong then the same applies. Heading through the stadium and to the areas that most people will never see felt so wrong but I kept going until some security stopped me so I did what Ferran told me to do and they let me right through and even told me where to go. It felt so weird to be walking down the tunnel with loads of players standing around I just felt so out of place as I'm just a normal university student that has nothing to do with football whatsoever. I stood outside of the away teams locker room looking at my home until someone spoke to me which nearly made me jump out of my skin.
"Hey" Pablo said
"Hi I'm sorry you lost you played really well though" I said
"Thank you" he replied
He seemed to have learnt some English as he was able to ask me some questions as we got to know each other a bit while just stood in the hallway. I expected him to be quite full of himself as he's an attractive famous footballer but he was so down to earth and incredibly sweet that I kind of forgot who I was talking to. I was surprised after earlier that he was able to speak quite well on occasion we had a bit of trouble but google translate helped with that. At some point he had to head back to the hotel but before leaving he asked for my number and asked me if I would join him for breakfast in the morning before he leaves. Of course I agreed but once I was alone again I wondered how I managed to get myself into this situation.
~~~~~~~~~~
"I can't believe you made everyone teach you English just so you could speak to me" I laughed
"Well what else was I supposed to do you were way too beautiful for me to just let you go I had to do something" Pablo defended himself
"It was worth it though wasn't it?" He asked
"Oh definitely I'll forever be grateful to your teammates for helping you talk to me because now I have the best husband in the world" I said
"And I have an even better wife" he said trying to make me blush and succeeding
So much has changed since the day we first met and honestly I'm not sure I know how it all happened but I'm incredibly grateful that it did. Since meeting Pablo my life has only gotten better everyday and now that we are married I couldn't be happier. The road to get here wasn't easy but we have gone through it all together and I hope we will continue to do so for the rest of our lives.
your the only person I have seen talking about jesse lingard's transfer and I wanted to know your thoughts on it, personally as a west ham fan I feel betrayed and think a lot less of him. wanted to come back to us so badly when we helped him physically and mentally during his loan only for him to turn us down because we didn't offer a fat enough pay check. What do you think?
i pretty much agree with you to be honest! obviously i don't know the inner workings of jesse lingard but if i were to judge from his instagram, his clothing brand, the whole jlingz thing etc i get the impression that he's maybe someone who makes choices motivated by his own image, status etc which is like, i have no problem with that obviously he can live his life however he pleases, it just would make more sense to me in that he maybe chose nottingham forest over west ham because he felt that deal is what he's "worth". i do personally think its a shame that he (or his agent whoever idk) chose the bigger paycheck over a team where he really seemed to thrive, made great friendships, rejuvenated his skills as a footballer, and where he seemed to be treated really well by the club and the fans!
obviously idk the ins and outs of the whole deal so there might be more to it than money, but from what i've read it seemed to have played a big part. like, it was almost expected or assumed that he would go to west ham once he left united bc of how fondly he spoke of his time there, i thought it would be a done deal pretty quickly tbh! so i completely understand how u would feel betrayed as a hammer. even as an outside observer i find it a bit odd of a decision.
idk! these are just my thoughts, maybe he wanted a new challenge. i just find it strange that the vibes were so immaculate at west ham, he began his whole "jesse 2.0" thing there, he seemed to be doing great physically and improving on his mental health there, posted about it a lot when he went back to man utd and so did his family/agents, and then he just. DIDNT GO THERE. weird!
Manchester United: Sir Jim Ratcliffe agrees deal to buy 25% stake
Tumblr media
Last updated on 5 hours ago5 hours ago.From the section Man Utd
Tumblr media
British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe has agreed to buy a 25% stake in Manchester United for about $1.3bn (£1.03bn).
Ratcliffe’s Ineos Group will take control of football operations.
The 71-year-old will also provide $300m (£236m) for future investment into the club’s Old Trafford stadium.
The announcement comes 13 months after the club’s owners, the Glazer family, stated they were considering selling to “explore strategic alternatives”.
The American family bought the club for £790m in 2005.
The only other publicly declared bidder, Qatari banker Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, withdrew his offer to buy 100% of the club in October.
United have struggled on the pitch this season and have not won the Premier League since 2013, while there have been regular protests against the Glazer ownership.
Manchester-born Ratcliffe is chairman of petrochemicals company Ineos and says he is a “lifelong supporter of the club”. He tried and failed to buy Chelsea last year..
In a statement, he said: “Whilst the commercial success of the club has ensured there have always been available funds to win trophies at the highest level, this potential has not been fully unlocked in recent times.
“We will bring the global knowledge, expertise and talent from the wider Ineos Sport group to help drive further improvement at the club, while also providing funds intended to enable future investment into Old Trafford.
“We are here for the long term and recognise that a lot of challenges and hard work lie ahead, which we will approach with rigour, professionalism and passion. We are committed to working with everyone at the club – the board, staff, players and fans – to help drive the club forward.
“Our shared ambition is clear: we all want to see Manchester United back where we belong, at the very top of English, European and world football.”
The club say the deal is “subject to customary regulatory approvals” but are “hopeful it will be completed as soon as possible”.
There is initially going to be a six-to-eight week process for the deal to be ratified, which includes being signed off by the Premier League.
How will the deal work?
Ratcliffe has agreed to buy 25% of the club’s class B shares, largely held by the Glazer family, who own 69% of the club, and contain almost all the voting rights, and up to 25% of its class A shares, which are listed on the New York Stock Market. The shares are worth $33 per share.
It means the Glazer family will retain a majority stake in the club.
Taking on sporting control at the club means Ineos will oversee the men’s and women’s football operations and academies.
They will also get two seats on the Manchester United PLC and Manchester United Football Club boards.
Subject to necessary approvals, Ratcliffe will delegate his seats on the PLC board to John Reece, a shareholder of Ineos, and Rob Nevin, chairman of Ineos Sport.
On the UK club board he will delegate his seats to former British Cycling chief Sir Dave Brailsford and former Juventus and Paris St-Germain executive Jean-Claude Blanc.
United’s executive co-chairmen and directors, Avram Glazer and Joel Glazer, said: “Sir Jim and Ineos bring a wealth of commercial experience as well as significant financial commitment into the club.
“Through Ineos Sport, Manchester United will have access to seasoned high-performance professionals, experienced in creating and leading elite teams from both inside and outside the game.
“Manchester United has talented people right across the club and our desire is to always improve at every level to help bring our great fans more success in the future.”
Ineos already owns French Ligue 1 club Nice, who are currently second in the table and well placed to qualify for next season’s Champions League, and Swiss club Lausanne.
Its sporting portfolio also includes high-profile sailing team Ineos Britannia – led by Sir Ben Ainslie – which is aiming to win the 2024 America’s Cup for Great Britain.
Ineos also has a five-year partnership with Formula 1 team Mercedes, owning a third of the team – and took over the British-based Team Sky in cycling in 2019.
‘Trawlers Limited’ – the company owned by Ratcliffe which is making the acquisition – was inspired by the famous quote by former United striker Eric Cantona.
10 years of struggles
Fans opposed to the Glazers’ continued involvement at United have held a series of protests inside and outside Old Trafford over the last 12 months of a process which people close to it confidently predicted would be concluded by the end of last season.
The past decade, since legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013, has seen inconsistency on the pitch despite a high transfer spend, and several big name managers hired and sacked.
United are again inconsistent this season under Dutch manager Erik Ten Hag, having lost 13 of their 26 games in all competitions, sitting eighth in the Premier League and having finished bottom of their Champions League group and been knocked out of the EFL Cup.
Manchester United Supporters’ Trust (Must) said “fans have very mixed feelings today” and that the Glazers’ ongoing role was “a cause for serious concern”.
The trust added that it wished Ratcliffe’s stake was more than 25% and that it is a “puzzle how any organisation can put its very core business in the hands of a minority shareholder, and how that meaningfully works in practice”.
“It is now incumbent on the club’s owners and management to properly explain how this new structure will work, where the new investment will be directed and how it will benefit the team on the field.
“Today might – just might – be a step forward for Manchester United after some very difficult years. But with the Glazers still in charge, people should understand that United fans will remain sceptical and wait for the proof in the pudding.”
Analysis
BBC Sport has been told by people inside and close to the club that a fresh pair of eyes was needed to assess its running.
The launch of the search for strategic alternatives effectively blocked former chief executive Richard Arnold from presiding over change. Now he has gone, Brailsford and Blanc will be doing the assessment. It will be intriguing to see what role interim chief executive Patrick Stewart will play.
On current evidence, they have a lot to go at.
While manager Erik ten Hag is convinced his team are on the right path, results indicate a truth behind something else BBC Sport has been told, that United like to congratulate themselves on doing easy transfer deals and shy away from difficult ones.
In other words, last summer, they signed players like Casemiro – who Real Madrid were happy to let go – for £70m, having failed to get Ten Hag’s first choice, Frenkie De Jong. This summer they went for Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta rather than Harry Kane, who United concluded was too expensive and too difficult to sign. Kane is the leading scorer in Europe’s big-five leagues, Hojlund is yet to get a Premier League goal.
Declan Rice has been outstanding for Arsenal this season, a potential game-changer in the title race. United signed Mason Mount, who was out of form before he got injured, and Sofyan Amrabat on loan from Fiorentina, who has not been able to secure a regular place in an unsuccessful team.
It is that kind of perceived wastefulness in the transfer market that has to be addressed.
Manchester United have fallen a significant distance, on and off the pitch, since Sir Alex Ferguson was in his pomp. Their fans can only hope, after false dawns under Louis van Gaal, Jose Mourinho, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and, now, Ten Hag, this really is the start of the long climb back.
Timeline: How did Manchester United get here?
In January, Ratcliffe’s firm Ineos officially stated an interest and said the company had “formally put ourselves into the process”.
Ineos and Sheikh Jassim submitted their first bids for United in February, with the Qatari consortium saying their offer “plans to return the club to its former glories”.
By March, both parties had entered second, revised bids after a deadline was extended at their request, amid confusion.
Elliott Investment Management and leading private equity group Carlyle, both based in the US, also entered the race but were only willing to purchase a minority stake.
The potential sale reached a third round of bidding in April, with Thomas Zilliacus saying he had also submitted a bid to buy the club.
However, the Finnish entrepreneur declined to enter a another offer, saying he would not participate “in a farce” and instead decided to keep his earlier second bid on the table.
Although the Glazer family did not respond following the deadline on 28 April, there had been increasing confidence in the Ineos camp that their efforts to take over at Old Trafford would be successful after it emerged its bid put a higher overall value on the club than Sheikh Jassim, because he was paying more for a smaller stake.
In May, Sheikh Jassim made an improved fourth bid of nearer to £5bn for 100% of United, in an offer that would clear the almost £1bn debt of the club and included a separate fund for the club and local community.
Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the process to buy United in October after further talks broke down.
Ratcliffe had already amended his initial plan to buy the Glazers’ 69% shareholding and reduced it to a ‘majority’ stake.
However, it was only when he reduced it again, to 25%, that the potential for an agreement increased.
CORRECTION: 24 December 2023 – This story originally reported that the 25% stake was purchased for about £1.25bn, when the correct figure was in fact £1.03bn
'Already arrived': Man Utd make bid for Sofyan Amrabat after Rasmus Hojlund - Alfredo Pedulla
Tumblr media
'Already arrived': Man Utd make bid for Sofyan Amrabat after Rasmus Hojlund - Alfredo Pedulla Reputed journalist Alfredo Pedulla states that Manchester United has already submitted an initial offer for Sofyan Amrabat, the midfielder from Fiorentina.  Following their successful agreement to acquire Rasmus Hojlund from Fiorentina, who is set to join the club for €85 million, the Red Devils now have their sights on Amrabat as the next player on Erik ten Hag's radar.  According to Pedulla, United's bid for the Moroccan international has already been received by Fiorentina.  Sofyan Amrabat Man Utd bid During this summer transfer window, Manchester United has been very precise in selecting their desired players.  As a result, they have successfully secured signings like Mason Mount and Andre Onana, who were the manager's top choices. Likewise, due to the unaffordable price tag of Harry Kane, Hojlund emerged as the preferred striker target for the Dutch manager.  Now, the manager is keen on reuniting with Amrabat, who had previously worked with him at Utrecht. Their relationship has been strong ever since Ten Hag handed Amrabat his senior debut. Personal terms for the transfer have already been agreed upon, and the move now hinges on Manchester United meeting the transfer fee demanded by Fiorentina, the Serie A club to which Amrabat currently belongs.  Fiorentina values the Moroccan midfielder at €30m, and while United has made an initial offer, it's likely to be below La Viola's valuation. This summer, the club has shown shrewdness in the transfer market and is likely to pursue a deal for Amrabat with a reduced upfront fee, supplemented by performance-related add-ons. Amrabat's potential signing would be a fantastic addition to Manchester United, given his reputation as one of the top holding midfielders in Serie A. He represents a significant upgrade over players like Scott McTominay and Fred in that position. His exceptional passing ability and ball control in recent years have been noteworthy, and he is known for his relentless work ethic and tenacity in winning challenges. By acquiring Amrabat, United would significantly strengthen their options for the number six role, providing strong competition to players like Casemiro for the upcoming season. Man Utd transfer roundup Memphis Depay domino effect as Scott McTominay position confirmed
Manchester United are busy scouring Europe in search of signings this winter amid a move for Wout Weghorst from Burnley with a wide range of players linked with both an arrival and an exit from Old Trafford
Manchester United appear set to continue their busy January transfer window with a few moves having already been made.
The Red Devils have sealed the services of Jack Butland on loan until the end of the campaign, while they have also agreed to bring Dutch striker Wout Weghorst to Old Trafford for the next few months. It remains to be seen if any more arrivals follow the pair becoming Red Devils.
That being said, here are the latest rumors to come out of Old Trafford over the past 24 hours, with the window now open for two weeks.
Tumblr media
Newcastle take McTominay decision Newcastle United have reportedly taken the decision not to pursue a loan deal for United midfielder Scott McTominay. The Scot has been linked with a move to St James’ Park in January, with the Magpies keen to bolster their options at the center of the park as they continue their bid for a Champions League place.
When asked if his side had made a bid for McTominay, Newcastle boss Eddie Howe was quick to dismiss the claims out of hand. As quoted by the Manchester Evening News, he said: “No it’s not true [bidding for McTominay]. The loan market is always a big option for us. But I think it’s very difficult to loan out. the right player.”
The 26-year-old has made 21 appearances for the Red Devils this season, but just under half of those outings have been departures.
Elanga’s future depends on Depay Man Utd’s approach to Anthony Elanga’s short-term future at Old Trafford appears to hinge on whether they have a replacement striker – most likely ex-Red Devil Memphis Depay. United have been linked with a move for the Dutchman this window alongside Arsenal.
According to talkSPORT, if the Barcelona star arrives at Old Trafford in January, it could lead to Anthony Elanga leaving the club on loan. The young Swede has been linked with a loan move to Premier League rivals Everton.
Elanga has seen opportunities with United dwindle this season after making just seven starts in all competitions under Erik ten Hag.
While Elanga could leave, a member of the current squad could stay who previously seemed hopeless. Right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka has been linked with moves to Wolves and Crystal Palace.
However, after earning a place in the squad in recent weeks, he now looks set to stay. According to MailPlus, Wan-Bissaka is set to stay with the club after Ten Hag was impressed with his performance.
The Dutchman now thinks he has a real alternative to the injured Diogo Dalot.
