A Minute
5/06/2018 10:32 AM. Manzanita Beach, Oregon. Amy Cleron.  Somedays I wish I could get away from this stupid town. I kick at the sand. The tide is coming in. All is gray. I’m glad I live on the Pacific and not the Atlantic though. I should kick off my shoes and put my feet in the water. It hasn’t warmed up at all yet, still feels like spring. The water is coming in from the arctic in loads of…

Hug Point Falls, 18 Feb 2024. Ricohflex Dia/Cinestill 400D We’ve been going to the Oregon Coast on President’s Day Weekend for several years, specifically to Manzanita and the area around it. Emee’s son’s birthday is around this holiday weekend, so he brings a gaggle of friends to “the beach house” and we act as chaperones. John Margolies (American, 1940-2016)
John Samuel Margolies was an architectural critic, photographer, and author who was noted for celebrating vernacular and novelty architecture in the United States, particularly those designed as roadside attractions. For almost forty years, he documented the most remarkable examples he found, publishing some of his discoveries in books and consigning the rest to an archive, which has now been purchased by the Library of Congress who, in a wonderfully gracious move, have lifted all copyright restrictions on the photographs. how do you like the chaparral? how do you like the wonderful, peaceful dry heat? you mentioned the vegetation. you've seen the california poppy but have you seen any
manzanita?
california live oak (probably not too many within LA but whatever)?
prickly pear cactus (nopales)?
desert agave?
milkweed?
how do you like our ecosystem? if you go to the beach look for also
the famed and adorable snowy plover
the sea otter
the red urchin
the kelp! norcal has its old growth redwoods and those are nice but in socal we have (well, had) vast forests of giant kelp, Macrocystis pyrifera, the most mighty and glorious of all brown algae. the kelp forests are disappearing but they are still present and if you go to just about any beach (well, any beach that's not actively cleaned, which most touristy beaches are) there will be a lot of kelp washed up on it. it will be full of flies and smells like rotting kelp (no joke this is the smell of my childhood and supremely nostalgic to me) but you can pick up a piece of it and pop the bladders. the bladders are fun to pop.
also if you are in LA you should eat mexican food. it will reveal the bullshit mexican food they have on the east coast for the bullshit it is.
I have had lots of Mexican food :) it seems pretty similar to the east coast Mexican food. I mean. We have real Mexicans on the east coast.
I've seen the live oak and possibly the manzanita. Definitely some chaparall type plants. Agave and such. I haven't been to the beach tho I'm not really in the city proper. More of a greater LA situation. I may trek to the beach on my one free day but getting around is so slow and expensive. And I'm not really a beach person. Sand

i think it’s good for us to fall in love with the tiny marks we leave on the world actually. somewhere on the roof of a house off the beach in manzanita is my footprint in white paint from when i was 16 and helping my friend’s family renovate. maybe i never see them again. maybe i never see that house again. maybe nobody else will ever see my footprint again but i was there with my friend and it mattered.

The GunShip
Sand-Punk Survivor Ch.1
January 02, 2023
to my kids and my lover, Manzanita this is dedicated to you
-By Brynn Kali StarDew
Ch.1 War in Rayuba
It was a day just like any other hot and windy. Aranea “The Electro-Dragon” was relaxing on the coast playing their Ocarina..When a large 50-foot Wooden Boat with a big black flag with a sword in the middle of it. The ship also had two black flags without any emblems on them on the front and back. The pirate-esque ship also had a green Dragon/Mermaid Figure-Head on the front of it.
They hopped onto their Noble steed Pandito and galloped toward action. A crab crawled across the beach pinching at Pandito's feet behind the Dragon and their large bone dreads; a lighthouse that had been there for many many years and a rock that looks like a skull with trees shooting out of it like dreadlocks.
It was a very plain and simple life on the coast of Rayuba. Defending large Poppy Fields and Gathering scrap to trade with the local penny-pinching merchant types. Two Leviathans emerged from the ship speeding towards Aranea at rapid rates. They took their trident hurling it towards the ocean. Striking one of the leviathans in the head. they're purple and Bone dreads flew wildly in the wind.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YV4oYkIeGJc
The other Leviathan with scaly claws and back spikes crept up the beach as
<The-Electro-Dragon> loaded their crossbow fired high-energy plasma bolts which had been
obtained from the local penny-pinching Merchant types! She fired it at the head of the
Leviathan turning it into fish food. It was time to go home and relax Maybe even take a nap.
Grandma Araneas House looked like a giant dragon skull that has a cactus garden around it with tall 7 ft cacti but some of which had flowers and fruit on the interior of their house looked a lot like a predator ship made from scavenged crashed alien ships. inside is a shop with the same floors in a raccoon skull table with many skulls for sale including hand-carved crystals, Blessed Water and Cactus Fruit.
About an hour had passed when they awoke from their fantastical dream vision. They walked outside to their front patio it was sunny and windy like normal. she took a sip from her small wooden keg which had been passed down through the generations of shark dragons which had inhabited the coastal northern part of Rayuba. They were aligned with Bastion in the war it ended not long ago this is that story and the events which happened after it.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lHomCiPFknY
After successfully defending the Bastion stores of poppy pods used for field medicine practitioners in the coastal Sands as well as hunting down any who wished to steal precious pearls with their crossbow. These Pearls were often sold to Jawa-Esque Traders by <The Electro-Dragon> (Aranea) this money(Gil) would eventually go to helping their party supply themselves before launching an attack on the demonic factories which burned tar and Sulfur from the mouths of the mountains East of there. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mIMMZQJ1H6E
