Kept this one separate because it's important and I have to pre-emptively post about it. This is non-corrupted, fully independent Uldren talking from his own experience and of his own volition, not influenced by anyone or anything. For the record.

Everything I did... I did for her. That's true. Everything my sister did... she did for you. For humanity. You'd have been jealous too. But now we have a fresh start... the Crow and I. We can be the man we were always meant to be: the adventurer, the rogue, the great hero. And this time... Mara won't look away.

I want to emphasise that this isn't Uldren looking to crawl back to Mara or whatever people think is happening because I know some people will say that. This is him wanting a fresh start. Including with his sister. Which is a sentiment she has exhibited as well.

They had an awfully tragic life and incredibly fucked up sibling relationship and they both want to use this second chance to make it better. Mara spent all of Season of the Lost explaining to us how she messed up and how she regrets it and she wants to do better by Crow. Crow is not ready yet which she respects and is waiting for him to be ready. I hope they reconcile at some point.

Unfortunately I looked at the comments and lo and behold I found the person who originated Mara hate on tumblr and harassed a dev off social media weighing in. I will tentatively say that it's overall a good comment that's at least not lying about Mara this time but this bit is absolutely destroying my brain:

"Because despite all the shitty things she did, saving humanity was her intention. Unfortunately she allowed her ego to get in the way and twist that intention, convincing herself that she was the only one who could do it and thus any sacrifices needed to make sure she could were necessary, causing her to kill far more people than she saved in the name of the "greater good.""

I am... confused. To say the least. If we agree that Mara did everything for humanity and to save humanity, something she has done twice directly (Twilight Gap and Oryx), and more than that indirectly, how could she have caused more deaths than she saved?

This is incomprehensible. If Mara saved humanity, and she did - she saved THE ENTIRE SOLAR SYSTEM - how did that cause more dead people than it saved? What is the math here? I am bad at math, but it is logistically impossible to save the entire solar system and be responsible for more deaths than there are people in the solar system.

People really can't accept that Mara's concern has always been humanity and that she sacrificed even her own life for it. Lucky for her, her gamble against Oryx worked, but it could've easily not have worked. She didn't know what would happen. She did it anyway because that sacrifice saved the entire solar system.

I've reread Marasenna today. It's mindblowing that Uldren was at least thousand years old when when we first met him in Destiny 1.

i’ve been rereading the awoken lore since crow appeared, and it’s just utterly tragic how mara and uldren go from two very close twins to this horrifically unhealthy and messed up relationship where he’s desperately trying to get her attention while she wraps herself in secrets and plans to become a god no matter the cost

like this is the introduction we get to pre-collapse mara and uldwyn’s dynamic, and honestly wow there’s just bits where it really hits you that they were nineteen years old when they fell into a black hole and their lives permanently changed for eternity

"What did you lose?" Mara asks him.

He lies there panting and grinning, shedding perfectly round spheres of blood. "It's good to see you inside. What brought you?"

She and her fraternal twin never answer each other's questions directly. Mara is cool with this because she feels like words are a very bad system of encryption, and that if you really want to communicate with someone, you must develop your own special one-to-one cryptosystem.

and it just has this perfect parallel with mara quizzing uldren after he returns from the black garden

"Uldren." Mara, shaking him. She does not ordinarily touch anyone. "Did you see the heart?"

It seems the most natural thing in the world that a garden should have a heart. "The Vex infest the place," he says. "It gives them something they crave. It… grows them toward what they want to be."

"You didn't answer the question," Mara says coolly. It's a perfectly sensible observation. It's the strangest thing Uldren has ever heard her say.

i just have a lot of feelings about how toxic their relationship ends up becoming, to the extent mara is completely willing to kill oryx to become a god even though she knows it’ll result in savathun killing uldren

and that’s without even getting into how i’d kill to see more lore about uldren’s relationship with osana or the unnamed and briefly referenced younger (half?) siblings that uldren and mara apparently have, because that’s a whole can of worms on its own really
