Headcanon: Shadow is the only character in the Sonic canon who swears because Gerald Robotnik would often swear while working and things went wrong or whenever he got hurt when building something, so Shadow is essentially a toddler just repeating the bad words their parents say by accident

God I hope Shadow is this innocent and naïve at first that he'd be one to immediately start swearing when he hears someone else cursing

Okay but no one ever talks about how fucked up Maria The Hedgehog aus are.

Like aus where Maria is like. cloned as a Hedgehog with memories and all (at least that's the vibe I get from them). And that's not super fucked up on paper, I'm someone who's dealt with characters coming back from the dead.

But Maria is a character that's been gone for so long that I can't imagine her being revived would be easy on anyone at the start.. especially Shadow.

He's someone that was truly close with Maria and I'm imagining that at this point has already went through the motions of grief. He's accepted she's gone. He's accepted she's not coming back.

Yet here's a blonde hedgehog with the same smile she once had. The same blue eyes that would stare at him with the same fondness on the arc.

And I'm imaging, and I don't know if this sounds cruel or ooc.. that at first he wouldn't be able to be around her. It was so hard to watch her die, yet it was so easy to bring her back.

Would he blame himself for not thinking of it sooner? Would he hate who ever did this for allowing these emotions to crawl back into his heart? Would he be ENRAGED at anyone for daring imply that this clone is Maria.

Like I do think that eventually he'd be able to be around her again, everything would be okay eventually, just different.

Decided to play around with my old Sonic AU and make this little gif of Shadow and Maria interacting.

In my AU, Shadow aged somewhat normally (and is not immortal). When he first met Maria, he was a young child and she was already in her early teen years. She didn't exactly have any friends on the ARK and she knew Shadow would be neglected if she didn't step up and care for him. So, despite her chronic illness and her young age, she served as Shadow's primary caregiver. It wasn't all sunshine and rainbows, but they enjoyed each others company.
