Ok so maybe I could just be googling this, but i've been seeing a lot of like rothko paintings that simply do not look like his "regular" work, as in there are no blocks, they have a bit more movement to them (wiggly lines and more than 3 colors used ). Do you know where these works are from temporarily speaking? are these later works, or earlier ones?
I really like rothko work, but I never had the opportunity to read up on it and learn some context...so i'm asking here lol. Feel free to just not answer this, love your account!
Hi, I can't be sure but you're likely talking about a transitional period before his classic or "Mature" style that comes to bloom in about 1948 and is established fully by 1950.
The first precursor to this is the "Multiforms" as they are called and they look sort of like this

There's also a longer surrealist period for Rothko and that work varies a lot as he is experimenting. Here's an example of that
