Junkers Ju 90B-1 transport (J4+JH) of Lufttransportstaffel 290 under attack by a Martin B-26 Marauder, flown by Wing Commander WSG Maydwell, the Commanding Officer of No. 14 Squadron RAF flying from Tunisia, 23.7.43. The Ju 90 headed for shore at Bastia, the Marauder then breaking off to avoid Flak. The Ju 90 was hit by the Marauder and Flak. The pilot, Oberfeldwebel H H Boldt, ditched it in the sea, where it remains for the enjoyment of divers.
Wg Cdr Maydwell’s crews had 3 confirmed kills, all large transports: this Ju 90, a Messerschmitt Me 323 Gigant and a Savoia Marchetti SM.82. For more, see my Facebook group - Eagles Of The Reich

June 1944 - American B-26 Marauders with special D-Day markings make a bombing run over Cherbourg around the time of the Allied D-Day invasion of France. Photo by Frank Scherschel.
On the left is a Douglas B-26C Invader; this plane actually served in WWII as an A-26, but was re-designated the B-26 after WWII (even though there was already a Martin B-26 Marauder, because what's an Air Force without a little confusion once in a while?). I love the nose art.
Elizabeth L. Gardner (1921 – December 22, 2011) One of the first American female military pilots and member of the WASPS ( Women Airforce Service Pilots), having trained with Lieutenant Col. Paul Tibbets. She's seen here sitting in the pilot's seat of a Martin B-26 Marauder, which she flew expertly during WWII along with aircraft that towed aerial targets.
After the war, Miss Gardner worked as a test pilot and with General Textile Mills to design and implement aircraft parachutes. She participated in at least two test flights with the experimental chute in December 1945. During both tests, she was forced to bail out of the aircraft when the parachute became tangled in the test aircraft. During the second incident, the aircraft entered a dive when its elevators were jammed by the parachute; Miss Gardner managed to escape from the cockpit and was only 500 feet from the ground when her own parachute opened.
In 2009, WASP pilots were awarded a Congressional Gold Medal through a unit citation.
The heroic Miss Gardner passed away in December 2011 in Manhattan, New York at the age of 90.
In the summer of 1943, Private First Class Barbara O'Brien of the Womens Army Corps paints the nose of a B-26 Martin Marauder nicknamed "Jolly Roger" of the 323rd Bomb Group.
Coca-Cola has done a lot of posters with American planes. Throughout their history, posters have been a significant means of mass communication, often with striking visual effect.
We digitally restored this absolutely fantastic collection of 18 rare art from 1943! Each is a full colour detailed illustration of various WW2 era US aircraft painted by “Heaslip.”
Each illustration has white/gold luster border and we have tried to digitally restore as close to the original as possible. At the bottom of each illustration is the Coca-Cola logo and a pair of bottles. At the bottom right are captions identifying the plane with statistics. The prints will be clear as possible from the 1943 prints.
Size is 30x40cms and you can choose to have it framed or not. These posters were framed and hung in bottling plant lobbies, schools, and other places. Students were instructed on the airplanes so that they knew the difference between friendly planes and enemy aircraft in preparation for bomb drills.
Vintage World War Two Coke posters of this type are some of the most desirable on the market today! These are getting harder and harder to find. So now MapTree gives you an opportunity to own these gems and create your own gallery to have a bourbon in your hands and wander back into those smoke filled skies of WW2!
DM to order these rare prints for owning or gifting or visit
All the 18 posters are READY to be ordered and owned or gifted!
