Under the cut you will find the list of everyone’s costumes as well as lists for the couples romantic and platonic. The voting for the costume contest this year will be done here. We ask that you choose your top 5 favorites in each category but then rank the order in which you’d rate them in the ‘other’ option. If you’ve got any questions about how that works, do not hesitate to ask us. The ranking per usual goes five points for first place, four points for second and so on so please put your votes in order accordingly. Please vote before the 10th of November as we will be announcing the winners from that point onward before the end of the event. If we have missed any contestants/costumes on any of the lists please shoot us a message so we can fix that !!

It’s another Fic Back Friday!!!!! And the first to be recommended is Oliver Knows by kuroinekokun, a great story where Oliver sees how the Legends treat Mick even after he saves Felicity and Kara on seperate occasions, and when he and Barry are on the Waverider find out just how far the mistreatment goes. An excellent and very cathartic story.
The second is Tornado Warning by nirejeski, a brilliant written Flash AU where Henry is the one killed, not Nora, who proceeds to fight against her arrest with everything she has - and succeeds. Nora is pretty badass in this story and knows that the Man in Yellow is after him and that he’ll try again, so recruits Len and Mick to act as bodyguards. They agree and the result is an excellent found family piece. Just as a warning, it’s very much not Joe friendly, but it’s one of my favourite fics in the entire fandom.
And the third is Teapot by @california-112 , set during the first episode of Randall and Hopkirk (Deceased) - the original - as Jeff goes into a downward spiral because of Marty’s death, and Jeannie tries to help him despite her own grief because he’s her friend. Brilliantly written and utterly heartbreaking, but it works out in the end.

Randall and Hopkirk, Deceased
I have very fond memories of this series (enough to have bought the boxed set to rewatch) and this podcast has loads of behind the scenes info. For instance, there's an episode called The Ghost Talks, where Jeff is in hospital, and Marty entertains him by telling him about a case he took on while he was still alive. Mike Pratt had actually broken both his legs, so this script was done very quickly so that he could just lie in bed for the whole episode!

Two More Artists with a Peel Session on Their CV Join Our Fundraising Line-Up
The Popguns are an English indie-rock combo from Brighton, formed in 1986, 87 or 88, depending on the source used, by vocalist Wendy Morgan, guitarists Simon Pickles & Greg Dixon plus bassist Pat Walkington. They were joined by Shaun Charman, the former drummer for The Wedding Present, in 1988.
Their debut single “Landslide” (1989) made the Indie charts and was followed by the albums Eugenie (1990), Snog (1991) and Love Junky (1995), the latter without Charman. A Plus de Cent (1996) brought the first phase of the band’s career to a close. Worth mentioning here that the combo recorded two sessions for John Peel and were included in Cherry Red’s essential Scared to Get Happy: A Story of Indie-Pop 1980–1989.

A long hiatus followed, before The Popguns returned to the fray with a new album Pop Fiction (2014) and backed that up with 2017′s Sugar Kisses. The track that the band are contributing, “The Twelve Days of Christmas” (2021), is an absolute banger which can be filed under boy meets girl Christmas romance.
Here’s the fab “Landslide”

I only bought my first Simon Love record in 2015, which makes me preposterously late to the party, especially as Mr. Love’s domain is Cardiff, where I have worked for 30 years. It was a set at the Buffalo Bar, as part of the Sŵn festival, where our paths finally crossed. There is a photo somewhere of the two of us, taken at the Welsh Music Prize later that year, or perhaps the next. I must make clear that I’m not claiming any personal friendship here, I simply ambushed him for that photo op because he was wearing a startling white suit and, as a fan of the original Randall and Hopkirk series, I just couldn’t let the chance to pretend that I was Jeff and that he was Marty pass me by. I was tempted to use that photo here, but there is a much better one of Simon below which always makes me laugh out loud.

Anyways, It Seemed Like a Good Idea at the Time was a knockout album and was followed by the equally well-received Sincerely, S. Love x (2018) and Love Sex and Death (2022), both for Tapete in Germany.
It has always been my intention, although I haven’t taken a single step forward in that direction yet, to check out the work of The Loves, the band Simon fronted in the first decade of the century. There are no less than four albums and four Peel Sessions to trawl through. I sense a New Year’s Resolution in the air.
Here’s an entirely random Simon Love song -

Episode 1: My Late Lamented Friend and Partner
Marty is always at least five minutes early for his appointments
Other businesses in the same building as Jeff and Marty’s private inquiry agency include Clive Murray, Theatrical Agency, and Les Fields Recording Co.
Randall’s telephone number is 3864, and he has apartment number 14 (or 41)
Marty is murdered on Wednesday evening at 8.30pm, outside his own house
Marty and Jean Hopkirk live at apartment number 8
Marty is also a worrier, ‘always worrying about something’ – mainly Jean, as she reminds Jeff
Tumblr media
Jeff : You mean you’re a ghost?
Marty : I suppose I am, really
Jeff : Why can’t you stay dead like everyone else?
Marty : Only you can see me, Jeff; I chose you
Jeff : Thanks
Tumblr media
Jeff – What’s wrong with lilies?
Marty – They’re morbid!
Hotel landlord (after Jeff enters with Marty) – You’ve brought the cold in with you
Jeff’s advice to novice ghost Marty : I should imagine you have to believe you can really do it
Tumblr media
A fair pilot episode, with a neat storyline – Marty’s sense of order and justice gets him killed – and minimal exposition (mostly crammed into the reunion scene at the cemetery). The dialogue is swift and straightforward, if delivered awkwardly at times by the cast in their new roles, and the premise of the series is established with Marty’s death and subsequent haunting of Jeff. I would like to have seen more of Marty pre-dispatch, but my favourite element of the show is satisfactorily evident without it: Jeff and Marty’s unlikely yet close friendship. As with most male partnerships on screen, the two are fundamentally at odds and yet they work as two halves of a whole – Marty is the brains of the outfit, an idealist living a neat and conventional life with his treasured wife Jean, whilst Jeff is the brawn, a free spirit enjoying chance encounters in his bachelor pad, relying on Marty to worry enough for the both of them.
After the death of his ‘friend and partner’, Jeff is left grief-stricken and lost; he sees Jean through the funeral, keeping his promise to Marty that he would look after her, and then returns to his flat, shattered and alone. When the telephone rings and it’s Marty, Jeff is instantly elated to hear his best friend’s voice – until his whisky-hazed fatigue clears enough for him to realise the impossibility of such a call, and he is cut by the cruelty of such a hoax.
Jeff’s grief is a short experience, with Marty soon returning as a ‘sleeping’ partner, but his numb sadness is a fitting and rather sweet interlude in their friendship. ‘Marty Hopkirk was ... my friend’, he stammers down the phone; and Sid, the concerned switchboard operator in Jeff’s block, reveals that the two friends were ‘very close’. There is instantly enough of a rapport between the two actors to show a natural and long-standing bond between Jeff and Marty, both before and after Hopkirk ceases to be, and the dialogue plays on a fraternal familiarity that bounces back and forth from playful exasperation (‘Why can’t you stay dead?’) to firm trust and mutual dependence (‘With you, I’ve got a chance’). Jeff instantly adjusts to his partner’s ghostly presence, chatting and plotting with Marty as if nothing has changed (bar a few new tricks that could prove useful to their trade), but the prospect of being haunted by a nervous and demanding spirit for the rest of his life soon sobers his delight.
