“Natural Element” is the latest release from the mind of Berlin-based German producer Max Graef. Max has showcased his unique and varied take on music on each of his albums. This third offering expands on his influences and approach. ‘Natural Element’ evolved from the “natural” process of confronting the limitations that come from stagnation and conformism. With that in mind, each track embraces change and originality. “Sports (Is Good For You),” “Around The Globe”, “Gaza International Airport”, and the title cut are stellar exemplars of this musical magic.

Wikipedia
Introduction
1 Strophe I

Sesame Street: Episode 1 - YouTube

Max Beckmann, "Irrenhaus" ("Madhouse"), 1918.
(Etching and drypoint on cream, slightly textured, laid paper; 9-3/4 × 11-7/8 in. [26 x 30 cm.])
Part of the "Gesichter" ("Faces") series which was a portfolio of nineteen drypoints published in 1919.
Per MoMA: About the portfolio: By Heather Hess, German Expressionist DigitaArchive Project, German Expressionism: Works from the Collection. 2011:
"The nineteen prints in Max Beckmann's portfolio Gesichter (Faces) do not present a narrative sequence but rather show flashes of life at different moments. Rendered in various sizes and formats and featuring a range of subjects, the images reflect the motley character of human existence: children play war games while bloody soldiers lie on operating-room tables; unattainable desire coexists with the empty pleasures of purchased love; people are bored and lonely, whether at home or in the city, alone or in the crowd. Beckmann, an active participant, appears in multiple self-portraits, including one at each the beginning and the end. Throughout the collection, the artist exaggerated facial features, distorted space, and took full advantage of the scratchy texture of drypoint lines for expressive effect.
"PUBLISHING HISTORY
Beckmann originally planned to publish two separate portfolios—one of wartime imagery and another, to be titled Welt-Theater (World theater), illustrating metropolitan life. Instead, Julius Meier-Graefe, an important critic and advocate for modern art, culled previously unpublished drypoints that Beckmann made between 1915 and 1918 and published this single portfolio. He also suggested the title. Gesicht has a range of meanings—face, sight, appearance, and vision—and is rich with literary associations, evoking in particular Friedrich Nietzsche's Thus Spoke Zarathustra, in which the term conveys the many facets of human existence."
Per Goldmark Art: "Perhaps the most powerful image of the Gesichter series, ‘Madhouse’ reinforces the double meanings that the the series’ title conjured up. The array of faces on display is varied: in the centre-left, a soldier with short-cut hair and cap smiles absently while a thin, gaunt woman opposite him motions and talks to herself; others hide their faces, unable to face the world anymore. The gathering of characters portrays a vision of those sufferers sidelined in a harsh society in the midst of a war: victims of trauma; the elderly; the mentally broken.

Ratgrave - Rock - a fun blend of Rockit-era Herbie Hancock, Squarepusher, and Nintendo (Black Focus)
Max Graef and Julius Conrad are Ratgrave. 'Rock' is their second LP ~ ongoing transmissions of Electronic P-Fusion from Earth. It follows a stellar debut on Funkineven's imprint Apron. The duo's sound pallette draws inspiration from 80's funk, soul, rock and electronic but through a contemporary lens from two versatile multi-instrumentalists. In their own words: "Rock is the essence of energy and vibration we felt in different styles of music, almost like a parallel component connecting all things we like. In the process of recording the new album we kept coming back to this essence no matter what style the original idea was. There was the raw and brutal energy of Jazz-Rock, a lot of video game influences that somehow adhered this essence just as well as quieter Pop and Psychedelic passages that we recorded. Among other things we absorbed a lot of heavy music during the time of the recording like Blue Cheer, Black Sabbath, Frank Zappa or Jimi Hendrix and realized while writing our own music how much impact they had even on quieter songs. This is why "Rock“ felt like the perfect title although the music ranges from P-Funk and Spiritual Jazz to various styles of Pop and beyond.“ Max Graef has previously collaborated with Glenn Astro on records for Ninja Tune and both artists have previously released on Tartelet. This marks the fourth official LP on Black Focus, a London label founded by Kamaal Williams
