What vehicles over 25 years old [other than Nissan Skylines] would you consider importing to the U.S. if you actually are considering importing a car? via /r/cars
What vehicles over 25 years old [other than Nissan Skylines] would you consider importing to the U.S. if you actually are considering importing a car?
I'm not in the U.S, but if I was importing a 25-year-old car, it'd be any of these:
Opel Kadett GSi 16V Superboss
Image
The styling may look familiar as the Pontiac LeMans hatchback, but this one had a 2.0-liter/156hp 4-cylinder engine and was a road version for homologation of a rally car. Made by Delta Motor Corporation in South Africa, this is highly rare, but pretty good.
Nissan Cedric Brougham VIP Turbo 3.0 (1991-1993): Luxo sedan with a 3.0-liter/255hp 6-cylinder quad-cam turbo engine, Nissan's VG30DET engine, this is both sport and luxo at the same time. It looks square and very generic sedan-like but it's fairly well-equipped.
Ford Laser 1.8 TX3 4WD Coupe 3-door (1991-1994): Image.
In the U.S. and Canada this was the Escort, but it never got the 1.8-liter/157hp 4-cylinder turbo or 4WD.
Could qualify for substantially similar, but it's old enough for the 25-year rule.
Mazda Familia GT-X (1989): Based on the European Mazda 323 rally car, and with a 1.8-liter/210hp 4-cylinder turbo engine, it's externally identical to the U.S-spec 323 two-door hatchback. Pretty rare for a homologation car.
Alpina B6 3,5 (1986-1987, November 1987-December 1990): Based on the BMW 325i sedan but with a 2.5-liter/6-cylinder 251hp engine instead of the 325i's 2.5-liter/168hp 6-cylinder petrol. It's the E30 3-Series and looks pretty good in red or blue.
Nissan Skyline R31 2000 GTS-R (1985-1990): No, not the Skyline that most of us think of, but the R31. It's very Eighties and angular, but still looks good. The 2.0-liter/210hp 6-cylinder is good, but the Autech model, maybe even more powerful.
Nissan Skyline stationwagon (1985-1990): Image
This has a 3.0-liter/157hp 6-cylinder engine, but imagine doing an engine swap and making a performance wagon out of a luxo GXE model. I know there's the Nissan Stagea, but the old Skyline stationwagon was one of those "Russian doll"-era Nissan stationwagons that looked pretty similar [Bluebird stationwagon in Europe, Skyline stationwagon in Australia] - image of Nissan Bluebird Wagon just for comparison.
This isn't quite a "what's your dream car?" thread but a discussion on the classics you'd consider, and what you think are good 25 years or older classics.
Interested to see what everyone thinks.

Mazda Familia Sport 4.
Originally i only had the 3rd pic but did some digging and found more pics and info. Translating the 4th pic this was a demo car built for the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show
TRANSLATION OF 4TH PIC
The Familia Sport 4 exhibited as a reference at the 1989 Tokyo Motor Show
Sport 4 is an unforgettable experience not only for Mazda fans but also for many racers and rally fans. This machine is based on the Familia 3-door 1800GT-X, which underwent a full model change in the spring of the same year, and has undergone major modifications. For the exterior, the front and rear fenders are enlarged by 55mm, and the rear is equipped with a spoiler similar to a group B. These parts are made of carbon fiber.
The engine was said to have been tuned up to 22OPS by increasing the turbo diameter, 65mm straight pipe muffler, and larger air-cooled intercooler capacity. Although there were many requests for commercialization, in the end it only fulfilled its role as a pre-development model for the GT-R/GT-Ae that appeared in 1992. After that, it was seen in M2, etc., but it is currently disposed of.

FAMILIA MAZDASPEED-VERSION TYPE A
Text/Hitoshi Sezai Photo/Toshiki Kobayashi
The Familia is a car that deserves more and more attention. From the solid body to the generous suspension stroke, everything is very European.
An eye-catching car is being built. In addition, the body form with a sharply shortened overhang has a small inertial weight, making it suitable for sports driving. That's why it's the perfect material for a tuning base, and it wouldn't be strange if it was originally developed by all tuners. As if to shake off that feeling, a complete car limited to 200 units debuted from Mazda Speed, which can be said to be a Mazda works. This is the second model following TYPE-B, which is based on the 4WD GT-X, and this time it is based on the basic model. This model called TYPE-A is equipped with 1.5L DOHC "interbrae"
Based on this, Mazda Speed tuning is the theme of ease of handling, so the engine is completely normal. Many of the originals of this version are used for the interior and exterior, creating a sporty image. It is undeniable that 120ps of the normal spec is a little weak because the test drive was conducted at Tsukuba Circuit. However, with the use of a sports silencer that lets you hear the dry exhaust note, and the crisp suspension, the feeling is quite good. Although the lap times weren't good due to the wet conditions, the feeling is much sportier than the normal one.
Above all, the good footwork is the one that fully demonstrates the performance as FF, and fully demonstrates the traction. Even though it's wet, it won't lose its grip unless you make a big action, and it will definitely increase your speed. When we think of sporty suspension, we think of stiff settings that suppress roll, but TYPE-A makes use of the good material and has a relatively large roll. It creates sharpness with plenty of strokes.
There is an image that the final corner of Tsukuba is a little lacking in damping, but even if the 120ps power is fully drawn out, it is a little short of 140km/h. At that speed level, you won't lose your grip even if you get a little shaken up. There is no end to my desires, but considering the balance with the engine, it can be said that the matching with this suspension is close to the best. In addition, it is sporty and moist.
It is really wonderful that it creates a riding taste. It can be said that this feeling is superior to any other Familia, and it is really meaningful even if you consider only city riding. Thanks to its sturdy body, this car offers a high degree of freedom in suspension tuning, and even with a softer feel, it does not compromise driving performance. Of course, the vehicle inspection is OK as it is, so it can be said that it is a bargain.
PIC CAPTIONS
Although it is by no means flashy,
A front mask that gives a fearless impression different from normal.
A dry exhaust sound that stimulates the sports mind.
The MAZDA SPEED logo shining on the front and rear
It speaks to its potential.
A cockpit with an Italian-made MOMO original steering wheel. The tight dark color tone stimulates the sports mind of the driver.
Engine room centered around a 1500cc DOHC 16-valve EGI engine The water-cooled 4-cylinder power unit boasts a maximum output of 120ps at 6500rpm and a maximum torque of 13.5kgm at 5500rpm.
Undercarriage with Mazdaspeed original aluminum wheels. Potenza steel radial tires, specially tuned suspension, etc. promise a fulfilling ride.
An original front bumper is attached, and the front mask has increased fearlessness. Cibie's mini-type fog lamps are built in, and functionally more comfortable driving is possible.
The original sporty pan bar is also installed on the rear, giving it a unique impression. The original Sporty silencer makes a crisp sound.
