how is this thumbnail so suggestive when it's just about a keyboard switch? "creamy goodness." lightly rubbing this little pink nub. "milk" in the channel name. "switch"
i know i'm beyond saving but like. come on
#mechanical keyboard#keyboard#suggestive#keyboard switch#creaming#this reminds me of that post that's like “horny tumblr user vs twitter user vs channer” that talks about the sensuality of clicking a pen#yuri#maybe i'm abusing the tag#but yes#i will call anything yuri

So. In the middle of a Percy Jackson hyperfixation. That happens every 6-18 months, it's normal.
(This of course, always brings to the forefront, my lifelong fascination and interest in Greco-Roman mythology (my mother prefers Roman (*cough* Latin *cough*) things, I've always preferred Greek. I subjected both my mom and siblings to like 2 hours of who and why my favourite Greek gods are my favourites. Should have spent more time on Hestia, inll have to do that tmrw, but my mom didn't know who Asclepius was, so I had to rectify that ASAP, also I had to give a verbal essay on Ares because that's just how I roll, and then I had to justify liking Apollon because my mom's knows a number of his myths, so I started with listing off domains and some more of his myths which led to the Asclepius bit. So. Yeah. Anyways-)
Right, so, last night I was like "hey mom, Greek or Roman?” because. Like. I was remembering some post- I think it was on here actually- about how instead of thinking about which god/dess you think you'd be a demigod of, but rather which god/dess your 'mortal' parent would pull.
And she was like "context" and I was like "because" and so she said "Norse." And I was like "uhhhhhhhhhhg mom no"
Because this is so easy for me. Soooooo easy. Riordanverse gods? Easy easy easy. My mom would totally be pulling Hephaestus. My sibling? Could fit into cabin 9 just fine.
(my argument to my mother was "tinker tinker, engine engine, keyboard keyboard" (got the most goddamn deadpan-but-affronted stare lmfao) and "tell me what you would if you had access to a forge" and then she and my sibling both started talking and while my mom was like "oooooo" my sibling was all "well technically you could make a small forge pretty easily-" and my mom was like "you're just proving the point" and I just started into the corner like in the office) (my other idea was Minerva bc my mom looovesssss fiber arts and architecture and math and science and art and history and learning and and and. Or maybe Demeter because my mom's always been interested/invested in gardening and permaculture and stuff. (I just want a rose garden and a poisonous plant garden and my favourite fruits.))
Problem is me.
Me and building things? Eh. Weaving? Cool but not my main thing, much more interested in how to make and use the dyes. Metalwork? Not a chance. I'd probably accidentally kill myself by blinking or something. No actually I'd roast like a turkey in the oven. Computers? Shoot me in the gut, it'd be kinder. Architecture? Love it, wouldn't be able to do it, way too much math and math and physics are my second biggest weaknesses right after electronic technology and navigating maps.
I like painting. Healing. Archery. Poetry. Singing- gods I love singing. Bit awful at it though. Hell most of my morals are based around protecting people who need protecting.
(I mean fuck, I learned about "noblesse oblige" when I was like 4 and it shaped me permanently and got invested in The Art of War before I was 12)
Would my mom ever go for, SPECIFICALLY, riordanverse!Apollo? Absolutely not. Not even a little bit. Would he go for her? Back when she had me and my sibling? Maybe. Probably not. Hephaestus, Minerva, Demeter. They're much more likely. (I would die; not interested/skilled in the right things; love plants, but they need to be kept outside....)
So. Shoe-in for Apollo, right? My friends thought so in middle school. So. Maybe.
But me? No.
However. How. Ever. Mars. Not Ares, Mars.
Namely aspects like strategy and protection, also as a harvest god. Those could fit.
My mom... She's got really strict morals. She's also pretty strategic, prefers if people would be straightforward and blunt, and though she doesn't like war or bloodshed, nor do I, really, but she can understand them. I guess. We don't agree on everything. I'm a lot more willing to spill blood if it means conflict drawing to a close. Neither of us like senseless violence of any kind. We both value honor. Though I think it means different things to us.
Tbh, most of my reasoning for Mars is ... More personal. Not personal for me, whatever I overshare on the internet regularly. But like personal for my mom. So just know I've got good arguments.
Anyways. I think in the world of Percy Jackson, my sibling would be a demigod child of Hephaestus (I would say Vulcan, but my mom pointed out that she knows more about Hephaestus than she does Vulcan), and I would be a demigod child of Mars.
#ramble#some#greek mythology#and some#percy jackson#things#but mostly just me rambling#i mostly just wanted to share the “tinker tinker engine engine keyboard keyboard” bit#(i suck at tinkering engines confuse me and i know jack all about keyboards but i've absorbed so much thru osmosis i know what a mechanical#keyboard is and somethinng something membrane something something tactical something something switches)#(and dear gods the oooo fire and metal! is strong in them both)#(i like weapons. making them seems cool. not something i want to do. but cool. i like knives and the technical side of guns is fascinating)#(also archery my beloved.)#agh more rambling whoops#forgive typos i am dydlexic and it's late asf rn lmao

Okay, I wanted to catalog all of my switches bc I just keep getting them when they go on sale so I weirdly have a lot of them and I don't wanna forget which is what. So.
What the fuck are all of these anyway?

Haimu Whisper Silent Tactile
Bought these because I realized the portable keyboard I use for writing fic on the go was just, uh, noisy! It was loud, so these were on a huge discount and I was like "silent AND tactile, okay sure" and grabbed them.
I'm typing on them now! I love these things. They are super satisfying and good! I like them more than the boutique switches I got and they're about the same as the Gateron Kangaroos but without the noise, so perfect! Would recommend!

Akko Wine Red Linears
The pre-lubed variant. I got these on sale because I wanted lubed switches but was not and will never hand-lube anything. These might be the first switches I ever bought? They're fine, good firm linears.
But I'm not a linear fan, so I don't use them anymore.

Durock Shrimp Silent Tactile Switches
I got these for my mother's keyboard for work so it would be quiet and they are amaaaaaaaaaaaazing. They are pricey so I waited and waited and waited for someone to put them on sale. Fucking worth it. They sound nice and deep but quiet and they have a good level of feedback. Maybe my third fave tactile, and a must-have for quieting down a spacebar.

Akko Lavender Purple Tactiles
Ah yes the cream of the crop for cheap switches. Honestly, god bless Akko for making really good budget switches. These were my first tactiles, and instantly I was converted to Tactile Life. Now, I find the resistence on them too low, but also I am a bit of a freak who liked a lot of resistence and feedback on the switch, so these are still very good for non-freaks.

Gateron Aliaz Silent Tactile
Andy sent me a couple of these in a trade, and they were life-changing for quieting my fucking spacebar, but wow these are tactile? I am playing with this switch in my hand right now and it doesn't feel tactile to me at all??? But it absolutely does its job. I'm of the opinion you NEED a silent for a spacebar, it's mandatory.

Akko Jelly Pink CS Linear
I think these came with my mother's keyboard when I bought it for her, but I swapped them all out for Durock Shrimps. However, these are perfect nice switches! I like them! I realized from these that I really like the box stem. Maybe I'm making it up, but they seem like they are more stable. These are perfectly fine linears. Good sound!

Gateron G Black Linear
These came on my portable keyboard and like 5 of them had bent pins, so wasn't a huge fan and have swapped them out.
I mean they aren't bad, they are SILKY smooth linears with medium-push so I did use them for a few days, but... Linear bores me. I see why its a Gamer Switch tho, it's nice and quick.

AKKO Jelly Purple Tactile
I forget why I have these, they came with something.... They're similar to the Lavs, but are firmer and have the box stem, so I kind of like them more than the Lavs? I think they would be perfect to put on your modifier keys while running linears on the alphas, which is a technique to avoid mis-hitting mods.
I have better tactiles than this but they are solid.

NK_Silk Olivia Rosette Linears
D'AWWWW MY FIRST SWITCHES. They came on my very first keeb, which I used to write the majority of KTOWL.
These are pre-lubed and are even smoother than the Gat Blacks. They are unfortunately the opposite of the touch profile I want, but they are super high quality for the linear gang.

AKKO Jelly Blue CS Tactile
what do you mean these are tactile, what
I mean, I LOVE these. I got these on an AKKO board and I fully intended to swap out the switches for my own fancier, handpicked ones, but I liked the feeling of these so much I left them on for like two months before swapping out.
I can't believe their tactile. I mean, I'm playing with one now and I guess I feel it, but it's like the most gentle, polite tactile ever.

Jwick Taro Tactile
MY FIRST REAL BELOVED. These were on sale (gosh, recurring theme here) and I love purple and taro so obvsly had to have them.
Unlubed, box stem, no wobble. The POM stem hitting the nylon housing makes for VERY good sound. I love the feel of these guys. I love the pop, I can just fidget with one of these all day. GOOD SHIT.

Gateron Kangaroo Tactiles
This and the Haimu are fist-fighting for my fave switch. I love these. They are bossy, aggressive tactiles with a solid pop. They are bouncy lil shits with a great sound. Noisy, so I would only run them under thicker keycaps like MT3 or SAs, not Cherry. But man, under the right cap they are musical.
I think I just slightly like the Haimu because my main keyboard is the portable one with XVX caps so the quiet is currently better, but I will be using the Kangaroos again in the future for sure.

Black Gazzew Boba U4T Tactile
I waited months for the Gazzews to go on sale. On the main mech keeb subreddit, people swear up and down that these are The Best Tactiles, they're life-changing, they cannot be improved, etc etc.
They're.... fine. Better than Akkos, sure, but ranked under the Shrimps, Kangaroos, and Haimu Whispers.
I don't know why but they just don't thrill me. I can feel the difference in them, how they don't require a lot of downward pressure to actuate but they have a POWERFUL feedback bump. I feel like I should like these! I want my tactiles to drag me into an alley and punch me in the face when I press them, and these have that profile.
But I just don't love them. I swapped them out for the Kangaroos and Haimu Whispers. These are all sitting in my commemorative Waypoint Radio coffee cup on my desk.
OKAY THAT'S EVERYONE. I am gonna keep this as a reference for myself so I don't pick up a switch and go "uuuuuh wtf is this again."

BBN (BuiltByNim) Linear Switch x Ciel65
Because I missed last Saturdays post and was being a bit lazy until now y'all get a twofer from me today with both a build and a switch post in one!
I'll get into the meat of the switch below the cut, but I got a 90 pack of these curious fellas as part of mykeyboard.eu's surprise switches round 5 offering for just 17 euro, which is a steal compared to the normal 6.81 euro price tag on a pack of 10.
Before I start rambling on any longer, here's the specifics on the Ciel65 Build you're seeing in the picture at the top:
Stock BBN Linear switches
No stabs (build is mostly for show and testing on alphas)
CannonCaps Earl Grey Lavender PBT keycaps
Aluminium plate
With that out of the way, let's dive a little deeper into the specifics of the BBN Linears starting with their rough specs:
63.6g two-stage gold-plated spring
Nylon top housing
Polycarbonate bottom housing
POM long-pole stem
Manufactured by Tecsee
Now, these are fairly common materials that are being used here, but what I find particularly interesting is the deviation from the norm of using using transparent polycarbonate as the material for the bottom housing when it's usually used for the top housing. This makes me want to toy around with different plate and keycap materials to see what sounds I can get out of them.
When I got them, considering I got them as part of what's essentially a switch lootbox, I didn't know what the specs of these were, nor if they came factory lubed or dry and from initial playing around with them I was sure they were very lightly factory lubed from the rather slick push feel and lack of any pinging from the leaf and spring. Now imagine my surprise when I opened them up to a completely dry stem and spring!
The stem tolerances are fairly tight with a slight bit of wobble and the housing fits really tightly into the alu plate of the Ciel65, so much so that my thumbs are a little sore from trying to get them into the board.
I quite enjoy these, even if the flat sound profile isn't 100% my thing and I bet you could get them smoother with either a light lube job or some breaking-in. Having the option for rather clear RGB lighting due to the clear bottom housing and plain white top housing for those people who love their light machines is a neat bonus. If you like this kind of linear switch then they should be worth the full price.

TO ANYONE WHO KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT MECHANICAL KEYBOARDS
I am looking to change the switches on my keyboard so I can write faster.
I used to have Gateron Reds but they were too light and caused a lot of mistakes when typing. I now have Gateron blacks which were great for a now but now my hands can’t take the strain from how heavy the keys are. So I am looking for something in between.
I have an aluminum, gasket-mounted keyboard with an aluminum plate.
I am currently considering the switches below so opinions or additional recommendations are appreciated.
Gateron smoothie
Gateron silent white
Dango pink
Akko snow blue grey
Hyacinth
