How to Choose the Best Men's Bowling Shoes
Tumblr media
A well-liked pastime that involves talent, strategy, and accuracy is bowling. Whether you bowl recreationally or competitively, having the appropriate gear is crucial for enhancing your performance. Your bowling shoes are one item that is often disregarded but is really important. Men's bowling shoes are available in a variety of designs and styles to suit varied playing methods and personal preferences. To improve your performance and comfort on the alleys, we'll walk you through the process of selecting the finest Men's Bowling Shoes UK in this article.
Choose a Bowling Style
Knowing your playing style is the first step in choosing the finest bowling shoes. Bowling shoes typically come in one of two categories:
Sports Bowling Shoes: Beginners and recreational bowlers alike may use these shoes. They are the perfect choice for individuals who don't have a preference for traction or sliding specifically because of their universal sole, which offers a moderate slide. Athletic bowling shoes are adaptable and a suitable option for occasional leisure bowlers.
Bowling shoes with performance: Performance bowling shoes are the way to go for more serious bowlers. They are available in sliding and traction varieties. The soles of sliding shoes are both smooth, enabling a steady glide. Conversely, traction shoes provide additional stability and traction. Depending on your preferred sliding technique, choose between these two varieties. However, bear in mind that some experienced bowlers use a mix of both sliding and traction soles to accommodate varying lane conditions.
Fit Counts
The fit is important for bowling shoes, just as it is for any other piece of footwear. Uncomfortable footwear might have a detrimental effect on your playing. Try on bowling shoes while keeping in mind the following:
Gauge Your Foot Length: Measure your feet to find the appropriate size. Rely on the measures rather than making assumptions since the dimensions of bowling shoes may vary from your usual shoe size.
Try on both shoes: Always try both pairs of shoes on because foot sizes might differ somewhat. To check whether they are tight and comfy, walk around in them.
Take Width into Account: Also take into account the shoe's breadth. Depending on the form of their feet, some bowlers may need to wear larger or narrower shoes.
Think About The Quality Of The Materials
Their construction and material may considerably impact bowling shoes' performance and longevity.
Top Composition: Leather and synthetic are the two common top material choices for bowling shoes. As they break into your feet over time, leather shoes are not only sturdy but often more comfortable. Although less complicated to break in than leather shoes, synthetic shoes could not be as sturdy.
Sole Component: The shoe's grip and slide are influenced by the exclusive material. Conversely, microfiber or synthetic soles enable a smoother slide while offering greater grip. Select a shoe made of a material that suits your playing style.
Construction and Stitching: Pay close attention to the shoe's stitching and general craftsmanship. Well-made shoes are more likely to endure the rigors of play and survive longer.
Establish a Budget
Since Men's Bowling Shoes UK fluctuate widely in price, it's important to plan and set a budget. While it may be tempting, it's only sometimes essential to get the most costly pair. To pick a couple of bowling shoes that deliver the most value for your money, consider your requirements and preferences.
Extraordinary Qualities
Additional features on certain bowling shoes may improve your comfort and performance.
Heels and Soles that Can Be Swapped Out: You may change the soles and heels on certain performance bowling shoes, providing you additional adaptability to changing lane conditions.
Breathing Ability: To keep your feet from sweating excessively while playing a game, look for shoes made of breathable materials.
Slide Modification: Some shoes include sliding bottoms that may be adjusted to your preference.
A key step in improving your bowling game is selecting the greatest men's bowling shoes. You may choose the ideal pair of Men's Bowling Shoes UK that will enable you to perform at your peak on the lanes by comprehending your playing style, guaranteeing a good fit, taking into account the material and build quality, establishing a budget, and investigating extra features.
Keep in mind that your primary priority should be comfort and performance, so take your time to make the best decision. You'll be well on your way to racking up strikes and spares with confidence if you choose the correct pair of bowling shoes.

Tumblr media
The dreaded friday morning finally came. Your mother had spent the whole night before on the phone with you, squealing excitedly about the dress she chose for you.
“I’ll see you tonight, Kookie.” You stroked his head, making sure the rabbit had enough food and water for the day. Adjusting your hair in the mirror, you cringed slightly at yourself, clad in a light blue sundress your mother always liked. You slung your bag over your shoulder and headed out the door.
“Can I have a coffee to go, please?” You ordered. The maid bowed and scurried off to make your regular iced coffee order.
“Woah.” Jungkook came down.
“One word and you’ll be unconscious.” You grumbled. He choked, whistling innocently instead.
“Have a nice day, agashi.” The maid placed your to-go container on the counter. You nodded your head and took a sip. When you turned to head to the front door, you saw 7 pairs of eyes staring at you.
“What?” You hissed.
“Nothing.” Taehyung shook his head. You rolled your eyes, walking to the front to wear your shoes.
“I’ll be back tonight.” You mumbled, giving a backwards wave before leaving the house. Your father was already waiting by his car for you. You gave a small wave and headed over. Without a word, your father just gave an acknowledging nod and entered the car. That was your relationship, strictly professional. Frankly, you were thankful for that.
“Your mom is very excited for you to visit.” He said as he started to drive.
“I know. Work gets busy so it’s hard to stop by.” You shrugged, putting your seatbelt on.
“This family seems well off.” He commented.
“Well, I’m sure you’ve heard of them. They aren’t exactly hidden from public eye in terms of their achievements and wealth. 7 young men, rich beyond belief.” You scoffed.
“I do know them, do you?”
“I would like to think I do. Working for them has been a pleasure, so far. For young men, they keep things very professional.” You said. Your parents always tried to convince you to work in a normal hospital, they always believed your skills should be displayed for others to see.
“You declined your mother’s invitation for that surgical seminar?”
“She has other surgeons under her that are equally, if not more, qualified than me. It’ll benefit them better if one of them were elected to go instead of me.” You explained. Your father pursed his lips.
The car pulled up to the house. It wasn’t a mansion but it was still a rather big property that your parents owned.
“(y/n)!” Your mother ran out to greet you with a hug.
“Omma.” You hesitantly wrapped your arms around her. She chuckled, pulling away as she held your hands in hers. Patting the back of your hands, she led you into the house.
“You look healthy.” She complimented.
“Thank you.” You gave a small smile. There was an array of dishes on the dining table, ready for you to arrive for a meal. You went to help bring the bowls of rice out. Even if it was awkward with your parents, it was nice to have a sit down, family style meal. Your parents sat opposite you, together, while you sat across the table.
“The car will be picking us up at 7pm.” Your father said. You nodded your head, chewing the end of your chopstick to stop yourself from saying something you would regret.
“Stop that, (y/n). It’s a bad habit.” Your mother scolded. You removed the metal from your mouth, picking the foods instead.
“That’s a nice bracelet.” Your mother smiled.
“Oh, yeah... Just a token gift from a friend.” You shrugged it off. Through the rest of the meal, you listened to your parents talk about what they have been up to at work, in an attempt to persuade you to work with them.
“You didn’t accept my invitation for that seminar. It’s prestigious, (y/n), that’s why I want you to go.” Your mother said.
“One of your surgeons under you would benefit better from it than me, omma. Besides, I’m under a contract to work with my client now. It wouldn’t be responsible of me to just leave for a two week seminar like that.” You scoffed, putting a scoop of rice into your mouth.
"Have you spoken to your brother recently?” Your father asked. You shook your head. Your brother didn’t live in Korea, he lived in the UK with his family.
“Well, he has been helping with a lot of big cases in the queen’s court. They may even fly him to the States to give a seminar to some prestigious universities.” He informed.
“I see...” Your brother wasn’t a doctor like you but he was a big-shot lawyer that worked on tons of famous court cases.
“He says he wants to visit in a few weeks. You should be here so we can have a nice dinner together. Jumin might want to have the baby here.” Your mother said excitedly.
“Oh, really...” You weren’t really interested at the thought of your sister-in-law having her second child here.
“And you can help too.”
“Omma, I’m working, I told you. I can’t be here just to take care of her new born.” You sighed. You loved your sister-in-law but having to live in a house with her, her new born and your nephew while your brother is here, will be torture for you with your parents constantly telling you how much greater they are compared to you.
RINGGGGGGG
“Sorry, work call.” You stood up and stepped aside to answer your phone.
“Hello?”
“Am I interrupting? You just sound like you’re having the time of your life. ”
“Ha... ha... sure. But no, you’re to interrupting, you called at the perfect time, actually. What’s up? Someone dead or close to being dead?” You asked. Jimin laughed at your joke.
“Unfortunately, no. Yoongi hyung is complaining about pain so I just wanted to ask if there is anything I can give him.”
“Well, considering my medicine safe keys are with me, there’s no much you can do. Oh wait, Jin has a spare set. You can get him to open it. Look for the green bottle labelled ‘Celebrex’ or celecoxib. Give him one and that should be enough until I come back tonight.” You instructed.
“Wait, how come only Jin hyung gets to have a spare set of keys?”
“As the oldest, I would trust that he is responsible enough to not have a feast with my pills.” You scoffed.
“I’m hurt that you don’t think we’re responsible enough.”
“That doesn’t make me feel guilty at all. Anyway, let me know how Yoongi is. For now, ask him to wear his sling.” You told Jimin. You wouldn’t mind Yoongi having to call you home to help him.
“He’s still able to curse at us so we should be fine.”
“Bummer.” You mumbled. With another laugh, Jimin hung up. You sighed, returning to the table.
“Your dad just got called in for an emergency.” Your mother informed as she cleared up the dishes. You nodded your head, watching your father put his coat on and grab his work bag. With a small wave of acknowledgement, he slipped his shoes on and left. Your parents were both workaholics, they were always highly praised for their work ethics.
“So, any partners yet?” Your mother asked as you helped her with the dishes.
“Omma, you know I’m not looking for anyone now. I’m very much involved in my work like you and dad.” You said.
“But still, with our busy schedules as residents, your father and I were able to get married and start a family. If not, you and your brother wouldn’t even be here.” She let out a small laugh.
“I know. But oppa already made you a grandma with Jisung (nephew), with another on the way. There’s no rush for me.” You shrugged.
“It’ll still be nice.”
“I’m gonna rest in my room for a little bit.” You dried your hands and headed up to your room. Conversations like these with your parents were just suffocating and tiresome.
“I need to get out of this.” You changed out of your dress and slipped on some shorts with an oversized hoodie.
BEEP BEEP
‘Jimin said you’re having the time of your life. - Hoseok’
‘Yes, I am. And are you supposed to be texting me when I’m off duty? A little unprofessional, don’t you think, Mr Jung? - (y/n)’
‘If you can do wellness checks on us, I can do it on you too. But if you need saving with a ‘medical emergency’ to come back to the house, I’m sure I can injure someone for you. Maybe Jungkook or Jimin can take the bullet. I’ll make sure it’s not fatal. - Hoseok’
‘It’s just visiting my parents. I think I can handle it. But I’m oddly touched that you’re willing to do that for me. Someone kissing a*s here? - (y/n)’
‘With you? NEVERRRRRRR. - Hoseok’
“(y/n)? I wanted to show you your dress that I picked out for you.” Your mother was at your door. Leaving your phone on your bed, you went over and opened the door for her.
“Look.” She unzipped the cloth covering and revealed the dark blue dress that she picked out for you. It was off shoulder with a flowy skirt.
“It’s nice.” You forced a smile.
“I knew you would like it.” She grinned, patting your head. Going to your closet, she hung it up, digging through whatever shoes you had left behind to match the dress. She placed the shoes at the bottom of the dress.
“I trust that you can do your hair and make up on your own?” She raised an eyebrow.
“Of course.” You shrugged.
“Tonight, it’s a gala event to celebrate the approval of a new health campus to be opened. Governors, sponsors and potential candidates for the board of directors will be attending. It’s a rather big event. A lot of big names will be there so naturally, a lot of press ” Your mother informed. You nodded your head, wondering if you would see 7 familiar faces there as well.
“Your father is a potential candidate for the new psychiatric unit head.” She continued.
“I’m sure he would love for you to be under him. He can definitely get you a good position under his team. Or you could be under my team when I make the move over.” She looked at you.
“Wait, both of you are moving over to this new health campus?” You asked, completely ignoring her persuading you to work under them.
“That’s the plan.” She shrugged.
“But you’ve been with Korea University Hospital for like... ever. And dad’s already in the board of directors for Seoul Institute of Mental Health.” You frowned slightly.
“Well, when a better opportunity comes up, means it’s time to move on.” Your mother place her hand over yours.
-
You had done your hair, neatly braiding it and pinning it up. Sitting in front of your vanity, you did some light make up on your face, finishing off with some shimmering lip gloss.
“Time to change.” You went to your closet and fished the blue dress out fo the cloth covering. You slipped it on, smoothing down the skirt with your hands and staring at your reflection to make sure that nothing was out of place. Your parents would want everything to be pristine for a good impression.
“(y/n)! Are you ready?” Your mother called.
“Coming!” Picking up your shoes in your hands, you carried your small bag and headed downstairs.
“I knew it was a good pick.” Your mother clasped her hands together with sparkling eyes as she saw you approaching. Even your father nodded in approval at your appearance.
“Thanks.” You murmured.
“Let’s go.” Your father held his arm out to your mother, who hooked arms with him, and walked out. You simply walked behind them silently. A limousine was ready on the drive way with a driver standing there, opening the door for the three of you to enter. You sat opposite your parents, your hands resting in your lap. Your fingers fiddled with your bracelet.
“Sir, madam, agashi.” The car came to a stop. Through the tinted window, you saw a row of reporters ready at the entrance of the building. You took a deep breath as the chauffeur opened the door.
“We’ll answer a few questions then head in. Just smile and answer things briefly.” Your father said to you. You nodded and stepped out.
“Mr (y/l/n)!” Reporters called out.
“Is it true that you’re a potential candidate for the new health campus’ psychiatric department?” You stood by the side, a small smile as your father answered questions.
“Right this way.” The security cut off the questions after a few minutes. You let out a sigh of relief.
“Let’s go say hi.” Your mother didn’t let you out of her sight, dragging you to meet old men that possibly decided her and your father’s future job positions. All you could do was smile and shake their hands.
“(y/n), you remember Jaewon?” Your mother smiled, bringing forth a young man in a suit to you. You internally rolled your eyes, here we go. Every event you went to seemed to be a matchmaking opportunity for your mother. She would be very delighted to wed you off.
“Jaewon?” You tilted your head.
“He was in my cardio-thoracic team but went to the States 5 years ago for a partnership.” She reminded.
“Ah, yes.” You smiled and shook his hand. You’ve seen him a few times. Your mother had even invited him over for a couple of meals when youw ere still living with her.
“How are you, (y/n)? You look amazing.” He complimented.
“I’m doing good, thank you. You don’t look so bad yourself. I’m glad you still speak Korean fluently.” You raised your eyebrows.
“(y/n)!” Your mother sent you a disapproving look while Jaewon blinked but laughed, nodding his head. Soon, you saw your mother abandoning you to join your father, leaving you to converse with Jaewon.
“Where are you working now?”
“Private.” You said, taking a glass of champagne and sipping it. Jaewon nodded his head.
“Right, you worked with private clients right? As like their in-house, family physician. I know your mother told me that you weren’t comfortable working in a public place. So you turned down a lot of good job opportunities at prestigious hospitals.” Jaewon sipped from his own glass. You frowned slightly, what exactly was he hinting at?
“What you hear from my mother is what she thinks she knows about my job. Anything to try and convince someone to persuade me to work under them.” You chuckled.
“That’s not-”
“Sorry, may I interrupt?” A new voice came. There was whispers and murmurs around you. That voice was all too familiar.
“I was wondering if I was going to see you here.” You smirked, turning around to face 7, all too familiar, men. Jimin winked at you while Hoseok flashed his blinding smile. Jaewon looked confused.
“Of course we would be here. Sponsors are the main invited guests, you know?” Yoongi spoke first.
“You know them, (y/n)?” Jaewon asked.
“Know them? I live with them. Unfortunately.” You rolled your eyes. Jaewon’s eyes widened at your statement. Jungkook placed his arm around your waist, staring Jaewon down.
“I told you about the touching.” You glared at the youngest, elbowing his ribs. Still, he didn’t lose his composure and just calmly moved away.
“Well, bye!” Namjoon gave a friendly smile before pulling you away. You gave Jaewon a backwards wave, following the boys to another side of the room. Once you were away from most of the crowd, you let out a sigh of relief, shaking your head while the boys just gave you amused smiles.
“When you said you had friday night plans, we didn’t expect to see you here, doc.” Jin smiled.
“Let’s just say, I didn’t come here willingly.” You snorted.
“Are your parents sponsors?” Taehyung asked.
“No, they aren’t. They’re supposedly part of the new health campus’ head department team so they’re here to butter people up.” You crossed your arms. The boys weren’t surprised by how honest you were.
“But you look nice.” Jimin smiled.
“Stop or I will stab your eye. Also, how’s the shoulder Yoongo?” You changed the subject. Yoongi shrugged his good shoulder and you nodded your head with a small smile.
“(y/n).” Someone called.
“Dad.” You turned to see your father. He raised an eyebrow and you sighed, walking over to him.
“I didn’t know you were friends with our sponsors? They’re one of the new campus’ biggest sponsors, you know? Young entrepreneurs with big names.” Your father said. You shrugged.
“I don’t know if I would call them friends. But they’re the clients I’m working with now. Honestly, didn’t even know that they were coming or that they were sponsors.” You blinked at him. Your father nodded, turning on his business smile before walking over to the 7 young men. They all shook hands with your father, exchanging formalities.
“I had no idea my daughter was working for the family.” He laughed.
“Yes, she’s one of our best employees. It’s a pleasure having her work with us.” Namjoon complimented and you mentally scoffed.
“She could use that talent in a hospital but refuses, sadly.” Your dad joked and you rolled your eyes.
“Shall we get some food?” Jungkook offered. You nodded and headed over to the buffet table with him and Taehyung, leaving your dad to talk to Namjoon and the others.
“This is boring.” Taehyung complained.
“You would think that with how many events you guys have been to, that you’re used to all this. I haven’t been to many and I am.” You shrugged, picking up a piece of cheese and putting it into your mouth. Taehyung and Jungkook laughed, they knew you hated being here from the moment they saw you.
“Shall we get out of here?” Jungkook wriggled his eyebrows.
“I would actually like to live another day so count me out. I’m here only for my parents and I plan to see to that until the end of the night.” You stated. Taehyung handed you a glass of wine.
“(y/n), I was looking for you.” Your mother came. You placed the glass down, stepping away from Taehyung and Jungkook.
“What’s wrong, omma?”
“You... know them?” She cast a brief glance to the two young men behind you, who had now been surrounded by other young girls that wanted at least half of the attention they gave you.
“My current clients.” You shrugged.
“I see... Only clients?”
“Yes, omma. You know I don’t mix business with personal relations. Everything is strictly professional.” You assured her. She nodded her head. You couldn’t tell if she was relieved or disappointed by what you said.

Bottom Line ~ Memeulous
Summary: George is concerned about Y/N’s well-being but does not know how to approach or handle the situation.
Pairing: memeulous x reader
Warning: !!DO NOT IGNORE!! MAJOR TRIGGER WARNING - EATING DISORDER(S)
Word Count: 1.2k
Tumblr media
Whether or not youtubers are classified as celebrities, four million people is still a lot of people. It is about five times the seating capacity of all Premier League stadiums combined.
Naturally, there was overlap between George’s four million followers and the one and a half million people who viewed Alex’s video on instagram fitness influencer Ashley Nocera. It was an entertaining video with an interesting segment where the flatmates weighed themselves on camera.
“I think George—I think we’re legally dead.”
It was a joke, of course, to which the younger laughed, and the older argued. Both men were fine weight-wise: just on the lighter side of what would be a ‘normal’ weight range for their height and sex.
While it was fun for George to angrily defend himself whenever he was called small or to push the ironic narrative of being massive, it was not in truth something he cared about. As long as he had skin to keep his organs in and bones to hold the skin up, that was all that mattered to him.
It was Alex who first pointed out that his girlfriend might not see it the same. George was not observant, but following that conversation, he tried a little harder, and he noticed some things.
Y/N bought two new identical shirts – seemingly the same fit and size as ones she already had just in different colours – but these did not fit her. She also twice blew up at him for changing dinner plans as if it were his fault the restaurant was closed or too busy to seat them.
“Are you not dressed? We got to go.” Y/N chirped, fiddling with putting her earring in as she emerged from the ensuite into the bedroom.
“You’re not eating as much as you should.” And there it was out in the open. George did not have time to even think how best to approach the topic before his concern overrode his rationale and took control of his mouth – spilling the words out messily.
Y/N shrugged, “Yeah.”
“Well…isn't that like…a problem?”
“Maybe, but I’m not going to deal with that right now.” She finished with her earring and crossed the room to her small shoe collection. “If we don’t leave soon, we’re going to be late.”
“We’re not leaving Y/N. We need to at least talk about it.”
“Now?” A frustrated sigh rumbled through her throat. She threw her hands up in mock surrender and resigned, “Fine. What do you want to say?”
“You know we were together all Saturday and Sunday, and I never saw you eat more than a bowl of cereal and a banana.”
Y/N scoffed, shaking her head she asked, “Is that it? What you’re worried about? You know I don’t eat a lot. Never have. Besides, we ordered in pizza Sunday night, remember?”
“You had two slices!” George spoke sharp and loud before pulling himself back down. “I just—I don’t want you to feel like you can’t talk to me. Even if you think it doesn’t matter or it doesn’t make sense, you can tell me. I haven’t been where you are, and I’m not sure what we’re meant to do from here, but I’m all in for you.”
“We do nothing. I’m fine; I’ve been dealing with this for years.”
“By ‘this,’ you mean your eating disorder.” He did not know how she could be so casual about something so serious.
“I can handle myself.”
“Obviously not. You don’t think I’ve noticed how you started having to wear a belt with all your jeans else they fall right off you? Or how you always change clothes in the other room?”
“Fuck off.” Y/N snapped; the blinds of offhand indifference were ripped down to reveal the blinding light of an angry sun. “Look at you, George. Look at your friends! Attractive, successful social media influencers. I’m not dumb. Ok? I know the type of women who get with guys like you – they’re graceful, camera-ready goddesses. They’re not fat.”
The last word broke off in her mouth and shattered against the floor. Tears sprung to her eyes, and she was quick to turn from George and wipe them with the back of her hand. All the while, her set jaw, and tense muscles worked to maintain her previous unfalteringly stern expression.
All George could muster amidst his bewilderment was a meek, “You’re not fat.”
“I know. Why do you think that is?”
“You don’t understand. You’re noticeably thinner. It’s enough that people are asking me if you’re alright. A quarter of the comments on the last video you were in are accusing me of like forcing diet pills down your throat or other bullshit. Even Will and Alex and them have brought it up.”
“Oh, I see.” Y/N barked out a short, humorless laugh. “So, this isn’t even about me. It’s about you. How you look to your friends. Got it.”
“They’re our friends, and they’re worried about you; I’m worried about you.”
“Well, I’m not going to change. Alright? Bottom line. I know what I’m doing. I know my body and what works for me and what makes me feel good about myself. There’s nothing you can say that’s going to change my mind now, so let’s just leave it. Forget about it and go. We’re already late.”
It took another few moments for either to speak as it seemed the subject was dropped altogether. Y/N collected her keys and wallet up in her hands while George changed his shirt. And both moved to leave.
The solemn silence between them broke just as Y/N locked the door behind them.
“I’m breaking up with you,” George said.
His hard-hitting gaze coaxed a temporary softness from Y/N. Her shoulders relaxed, even turning inward, a hesitant smile on her lips as she searched his face for the joke. “That’s not funny.”
“I’m serious. If you refuse to get better, to even try, then I’m not going to be there while you make yourself worse.”
“You don’t mean that.”
“Sure, I do. Bye, Y/N.” George took a step backwards, before turning around completely and walking up the hall toward the stairwell. He did not even want to share a ride down in the lift with her.
And Y/N did not call after him like in a romantic comedy, nor did she follow him with an intense desire to proclaim a new outlook, a changed perspective on the situation. Her feet remained planted, and her mouth shut. She did not see it for the ultimatum it was – at least not at first.
Y/N: alright, I get it, v dramatic. You made your point Y/N: this is so stupid! Y/N: don’t be a dick. text me back. Y/N: you’re serious? All this over what 3kgs??? Y/N: Fuck you!! I don’t care I’ll go out by myself!
Y/N: answer the phone. Coward. Y/N: must be hard to ghost me on every platform
Y/N: ok I get it Y/N: isn’t 72hours a fair punishment? come by so we can make up.
Y/N: answer the phone. Y/N: George, I get it. I’m not alright Y/N: I’m sorry, Answer the phone, and we can talk, please!
Y/N: I need help Y/N: I’ve made an appointment with a psychiatrist. Y/N: she specializes in eating disorders.
George: When’s the appointment?

sightseeing pt 1 | philinda | AoS | explicit
Forgive me for the first chapter being foreplay...it’s not after this. (whisky help me).
Post-Finale fic, because I wanted one where she finds him.
No longer quite an agent, Phil Coulson went off to see the world. Professor Melinda May knows the kinds of places he likes. The rest isn't quite parasailing, but it's certainly classified.
It's his kind of place. Homey, old, with a scuffed, well worn floor and walls covered in history. Melinda isn't sure if seafood is something this version of Phil enjoys, but he's always been excited by good food and the scallops are divine here. Luckily the seagood is different enough from Tahiti to not dredge up her own longings. She won't be able to sit on a tropical beach without her chest aching but the stones and the Loch are pleasantly different.
If he doesn't show, she'll get plenty of work done. Her stack of provisional field reports is much smaller than it was when she arrived on the ferry two days ago. She walks along the water in the morning, and does her tai chi between the trees and the shore. The locals are polite, and accustomed enough to tourists that they're neither curious or too chatty.
The Old Forge pub's lively tonight with a sizeable group at the bar and a group playing something that's not pool. Phil would know what it is, and the rules, though he'd lose his shirt before he'd admit he wasn't that good at it. Maybe now he is. Maybe part of the upgrades are a passing skill with games. She hasn't got to play poker with him yet, but maybe now he finally has game.
That thought makes her smile, and she sets down her pen. She should correct the papers on her laptop, but it feels wrong to sit in a place with history and type. The pen is Phil's, one of his exquisite collection of fountain pens and every once in awhile she gets ink all over her fingers. It feels like part of the job, so she lets it happen. The stains remind her of him.
Everything does. Phil's in the scent of whisky, men unbuttoning their suit coats before they sit down, blue ties, red ties, and the feel of leather. She hasn't stayed in a hotel without him, not in years, and the little cottage she's rented is designed to be shared, but it's easy enough to ignore the other bathrobe and the other towel. He'll be here.
Or he won't.
She's rarely wrong about him: what he likes, the kinds of places he finds interesting. He'd have a hard time resisting the most remote pub in the UK and he'd sit in the corner table and read his book.
Melinda finishes her soup and sets the bowl aside. She's drunk half of her beer, and when it's gone she will allow herself one shot of whisky before she retreats to her cottage and the hot tub hidden in the trees.
She's deep in her work, nearing the end of her pint when he walks in. It's him by the sound of his feet, even in hiking boots instead of derby shoes. Her reading glasses slip and she forces them up the bridge of her nose. Working without them ends in headaches and that's not how she wants tonight to end.
Not that they--
Of course not.
Phil orders a drink and searches the pub, his eyes fall on her and she doesn't look up. She can't, she's not ready to look at him, not if--
"Is this seat taken?"
"All yours."
He sits, setting down his pint next to hers. "These are new."
"Getting old."
"Not you," he teases. "Melinda May is an ageless goddess."
"Professor May gets fairly nasty headaches if she reads papers all day without them."
He smiles. "Are you sure that it's not the papers?"
Chuckling, she sets down her pen. His pen. Another him, another lifetime ago. Removing her glasses, she sets them down. "They're not that bad. Apparently it's too much time in a cockpit."
"They suit you."
"Thanks."
"This suits you." He lifts his glass, taking a sip as he looks over her sweater. "You seem relaxed."
"Nowhere to be."
He takes a longer drink, rolling the ale over his tongue before he swallows. What different parts of it can he taste now? Does his tongue disect the molecules or does he taste it like she does? "How did you know I'd come here?"
"The most remote pub in Scotland is definitely your thing."
"I wanted to go to Ireland." The server sets his plate in front of him. Fish and chips. Of course.
She reaches across, stealing a chip. "You wouldn't go without me."
He raises his eyebrows in mock indigence at her theft. "You already ate."
"You never finish your chips."
"Because you do." Phil reaches for the vinegar and his fingers brush her wrist. Her heart thuds, too loud and too needy.
"I missed you."
"I'm sorry."
"Don't be."
"No, let me apologize." He holds up a chip as a peace offering. "I wasn't ready."
"You don't have to be."
"I am."
She eats the chip, trying to concentrate on the salt and crispy potato. Pay attention to her body, find the horizon, find her center. She can't slow her heartbeat, but she can ignore it. Pretend she can't taste the need in her chest.
"Ready for?"
"Whatever comes next." He smiles, really smiles, and they could be back at the Academy, studying in the cafeteria, decades ago. "You came all this way."
"It's spring break, I had the time."
"What if I didn't come?"
"You did."
"I did."
He finishes his pint and she tucks her papers into her briefcase.
"What are we drinking? Islay or Speyside?"
"Not that peated one."
Phil laughs, shaking his head. "I like that."
"I do too, but not tonight."
"All right, something sweeter." He stands, heading back to the bar. "Don't eat all my chips."
"I'll leave one."
She leaves three, just to be kind.
Phil returns with whiskies, doubles, and slides hers across. Can he get drunk? Is it all about the taste, the ritual?
"What are we drinking too?"
"A wild spring break?"
She raises an eyebrow.
"Had to try." Those crinkles around his eyes are perfect, and him. So is the way she's not sure if his eyes are blue, hazel or brown. Must be the lighting.
"Thank you."
"I left you three, you should be grateful."
He eats one of the chips and chuckles. "That you found me?"
"Well, you weren't visiting."
"I--"
"It's all right."
"It's not. I should have visited, you asked and I- I left you."
"You do that a lot." She didn't mean to say it, it's too harsh, but he nods all the same.
"Sorry about that."
"Maybe this you sticks around."
"Would be nice."
"Yeah?"
"I'm enjoying it. Seeing the world, sitting in pubs., reading, watching...never had time for most of it. Couldn't take a day and read a book and now I can just flip through them."
"Must be nice."
"Just say the word and I'll help you with your essays." He reaches out, hand open on the table.
"They're not bad."
"Solidly mediocre?"
"There's promise. Some will be good agents in a few years."
"Some dreadful ones."
"Always a few."
They lift their glasses, eyes locked. "What are we drinking to?"
"Seeing the world?"
"Having our feet the ground for once."
"Well, Lola is out back." He clinks his glass against hers. "To seeing it slowly."
"To taking time."
Phil grins at that, his eyes softening as the little lines around them deepen. "That's not something we do."
"Maybe we start."
His eyes won't leave her lips. The whisky starts sweet, then warms her throat. The last time he kissed her, he was dying, now death is a thousand years away.
Phil sets his glass down on the table. "I'm not sure I know how."
"All that time wandering the world, reassessing, and you didn't figure out how to take your time?" Her cheeks flush, and it's not the whisky. His gaze has always been able to do that to her.
"Never been good at it."
"Maybe it's time to learn some new skills."
He waves over the bartender and she refills their glasses without a word. Amber whisky glows in the weak light of the sunset through the window.
"You think it's possible to teach new tech new tricks?"
"Isn't that one of the benefits of all your circuits?"
"Perhaps." He drinks without a toast, almost as if he has to fortify himself for what's to come. "I'm sorry, Melinda."
"For what?"
"So many things."
"Dying?"
"Not staying dead."
Shaking her head, she finishes her own whisky, barely tasting it this time. "The world's better with you in it, you know that."
"Even for you?"
"Of course it is, you're my best friend."
"I've been more than that."
She traces the rim of the glass with her finger. "You could be again."
"Is that what you want?"
Want isn't even the right word. Want is too simple.
"I love you."
"Loved," he corrects her. "He's gone."
"No, Phil, I love you. This you, the last you, the nerdy you before who used to stop by my cubicle on your coffee break just to make me laugh."
"It's not--"
She reaches across the table and squeezes his hand, making sure to have all his attention. "It is that easy."
He gulps and stares, dumbfounded. It's pretty cute when he gets like this. "Okay."
"Do you want to wait five minutes and follow me to the cottage or come now?"
Phil smirks. "Is someone following us?"
"Would it matter?"
"Could be fun."
Laughing, she picks up her briefcase, tucking her glasses away. "Maybe for you."
"Fighting off the bad guys isn't foreplay anymore?" He grabs her jacket, opening it up so she can step in.
Melinda reaches up to fix her hair, but he does, gently letting it fall onto her shoulders. "It's not as fun as it used to be."
"So you need a new hobby?"
"The vacation might be enough."
"It's not a vacation if you're working." He rests his hand on her back as they leave the pub for the tiny street that goes nowhere.
"I needed to pass the time until you got here."
"So I'm late?"
"Aren't you always?"
His fake wounded face hasn't changed in decades. "Hey."
"I don't mind waiting."
"Maybe you should." He touches her chin, stopping them in the street. No one's coming, there's nowhere to go.
"What are you going to do about that?"
Phil glances down the street, then at his feet. "I guess I'll find some guys to shoot at us, seemed to help last time."
"So romantic." She stands on her tiptoes, reaching up for his shoulder. He leans down, just a little, and they're close. Melinda tilts her head, tugs, and he laughs before they kiss. Her lips tingle from the drink and he tastes like whisky. At first he's tentative, gentle, so she deepens the kiss, opening her mouth, teasing- offering- and he takes.
His fingers slip into her hair, pulling her closer as his tongue tastes her. Does he remember kissing on the beach? Can he know what those weeks were like? Does he only remember the kiss behind the shield?
Does it matter? He's here. They're here. They have now; they've never been good at seizing their moments. Maybe that's something they can reassess together.

Happy 33rd Birthday Andy Murray born in Glasgow on May 15, 1987, to Judy and William Murray.
Andrew Barron Murray grew up in Dunblane and began playing tennis at age 3. A former competitive tennis player, Judy coached Andy and his older brother, Jamie, in their early years.
In March 1996, while 8-year-old Murray was sitting in his classroom at Dunblane Primary School, an armed man entered the building, and shot and killed 17 people—16 students and one teacher—before committing suicide by turning the gun on himself. During the horrible event, Murray ran and hid in his headmaster's office. It still surprises me today that some people are unaware of this tumultuous thing happened in Andy's life and he picked himself up and achieved so much
Andy scored a major youth championship when he won Florida's Orange Bowl in his age group in 1999. In 2004, he became the world's No. 1 junior after winning the U.S. Open junior title. Later that year, he was named the BBC's "Young Sports Personality of the Year."
Shortly after becoming the youngest British player to compete in the Davis Cup, Murray made his professional debut in April 2005. In 2006, with new coach Brad Gilbert, Murray beat top-ranked Roger Federer in Round 2 of the Cincinnati Masters tournament. Also that year, he defeated Andy Roddick en route to winning the SAP Open for his first ATP title. A year later Murray claimed a second straight SAP Open and also won the St. Petersburg Open to break into the Top 10 rankings
Murray emerged in the tennis spotlight when he defeated Spanish sensation Rafael Nadal to reach the final of the 2008 U.S. Open, before losing to Federer. He ascended to No. 2 in the world in 2009, and finished runner-up at the Australian Open in both 2010 and 2011.
In 2012, Murray made it to the Wimbledon final for the first time with his semifinal win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, the first home grown player to reach the final since 1938. However, Murray lost in the final to Federer, who claimed his seventh Wimbledon win.
Murray avenged his Wimbledon loss at the 2012 Summer Olympic Games, held in London, where he beat Federer to take his first Olympic gold medal. That September, he continued to burn up the courts with an impressive run through the U.S. Open field. Murray scored an impressive victory over Novak Djokovic in a tough five sets to clinch his first Grand Slam title. becoming the first player from the British Isles since 1977—and the first British man since 1936—to win a Grand Slam singles tournament.
After losing to Djokovic at the 2013 Australian Open, Murray made history that summer by defeating the Serbian player to claim the Wimbledon men's singles championship. He was the first British male to win the tournament in 77 years and the second Scottish-born player to win Wimbledon since Harold Mahony in 1896 a gap of 117 years.
Murray underwent back surgery in September 2013 following his loss in the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. His performance was uneven for much of the 2014 season, though he made news by hiring former women's champion Amelie Mauresmo to be his coach.
Andy seemingly was back on track when he reached his fourth Australian Open final in early 2015. That March, he scored career victory No. 500 while competing at the Miami Open.
Murray followed with an impressive run at the 2015 French Open, battling back from a two-set deficit in the semifinals before succumbing to Djokovic. A few weeks later, he reached the semifinals of Wimbledon, but his hopes of advancing were cut short by the ageless Federer. Murray's subsequent fourth-round loss at the U.S. Open not only thwarted his last chance for a major title in 2015, it snapped his streak of 18 consecutive appearances in a Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Andy Murray began the 2016 season on a strong note, advancing to the Australian Open final before suffering another loss to his nemesis, Djokovic. However, he gained some revenge by defeating Djokovic to claim the Italian Open in May, and then sustained his high level of play through the French Open. With his semifinal win over defending champion Stan Wawrinka, Murray became the first British player to reach the French Open final since 1937. However, his bid to add another Slam title fell short when he wound up on the losing end of a blistering Djokovic onslaught once again.
In July 2016, Murray advanced to the semifinals at Wimbledon after defeating Jo Wilfried-Tsonga. In the final, he upended Milos Raonic, the first Canadian man to make it to the Wimbledon final, 6-4, 7-6, 7-6. The victory was Murray's third Grand Slam title.
The following month, Murray continued his sterling play by defeating Argentina's Juan Martin del Potro at the Rio Games, making him the first male tennis player to successfully defend his Olympic singles title.
Despite concerns over a lingering hip injury, Murray returned to Wimbledon in 2017 as the defending champion and progressed to the third round with straight set wins against Alexander Bublik and Dustin Brown.He dropped his first set of the tournament to Fabio Fognini but proceeded to the fourth round in four sets. Murray continued to the quarter final with a straight set victory against Benoit Paire. However, he was defeated in the quarter-final by Sam Querrey in five sets. Since then he has lost his world number one ranking and undergone surgery.
In March 2018 Murray lost his British number one ranking to Kyle Edmund for the first time since 2006.
In January 2019 a very emotional Murray announced at a press conference that his career was possibly over due to struggling physically for a "long time", particularly with his hip injury. He said that he had been suffering with hip pain on a daily basis, and that it caused him to struggle with tasks like putting his shoes and socks on.He spoke of the possibility of a second hip surgery, but expressed doubt this would be a viable option to prolong his career, merely allowing him to "have a better quality of life, and be out of pain"
He said he hoped to play on until at least Wimbledon but that the upcoming Australian Open could well be his last tournament, he later went out in the second round. Andy admitted "I'm not sure I can play through the pain for another four or five months"
The top American doubles player Bob Bryan urged Andy to have the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing Operation that helped him return to top flight tennis. Informing him that the BHR would improve his quality of life and may help him return to the professional tennis tour. The orthopedic surgeon who pioneered the treatment said in an interview he could forecast a return to the sport "in the high 90 per cent"  Andy had the surgery that Februar and on 7 March, Murray stated in an interview that he was now free of pain in his hip as a result of the surgery and may therefore return to playing competitive tennis, but that any potential Wimbledon return would be dependent on how his hip felt, and that he would not rush his comeback and may test his condition by playing doubles.
Andy has since played a number of doubles matches, the most anticipated was the dream pairing with Serena Williams at Wimbledon last year, they lost in the third round to the top seeds. He continued playing the doubles circuit till late that year before returning to singles, losing his first few matches was no surprise, this was about getting back to match fitness and he dropped down to the second tier "Challenger circuit" to regain his match fitness, winning his first match since January.
In October last year Andy made it to the final and won the European Open against three time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka 3-6, 6-4., 6-4.
At the end of November 2019, a television documentary, Andy Murray: Resurfacing, was released on Amazon Prime, detailing Murray's various attempts to overcome his hip injury over a two-year period from his defeat at Wimbledon in 2017 to his doubles victory at Queen's Club in 2019. December saw him withdraw from the the Australian Open and the inaugural ATP Cup with a pelvic injury.
Of course the world has stood still in the past few months, I follow Andy on Twitter and he is keeping fit and in good spirits, let's all hope he bounces back to his best after the Covid Crisis is over and top flight sport returns. In his personal life April 2015 saw Andy Murray marry longtime girlfriend Kim Sears at Dunblane Cathedral in his hometown. They had met at the U.S. Open in 2005, they have three bairns, Sophia, Edie, and Teddy.
Murray is on the leadership team of Malaria No More UK, a charity that raises funds and awareness to save lives in Africa, and a global ambassador for the World Wildlife Fund.

How to shop for vintage aesthetics!
With vintage fashion and aesthetics becoming increasingly popular, I thought I'll share some of my techniques of shopping affordably for vintage clothing. A couple of disclaimers to start with, my preferred aesthetic time period for clothing is the 80s and 90s however, this does not mean that this ‘guide’ can’t be used be used for whatever vintage style you’re shopping for. This post will also be UK based as that’s where I live, some of the places where I tend to shop may apply to Europe but I'm not entirely sure! Finally this is how I shop and what I look out for when shopping for vintage clothing, if you got any of your own tips please share, vintage clothes shopping unfortunately, has become incredibly expensive :( Now all that incredibly dull stuff is out of the way, lets get into it!
The first thing I would do before even attempting to go vintage clothes shopping is research. Knowing your era and the distinctive style of that era is incredibly important. I know it sounds self- explanatory but having a good insight of the fashion and culture of your chosen vintage aesthetic will mean that you can spot certain pieces in the wild with ease. With anything if you know what you’re looking for you’ll find it a lot easier. The best research in my opinion is just asking someone who grew up or lived through that time period, they tend to remember the more obscure and weird trends that have been long forgotten. Maybe, for the greater good, I'm looking at you leg warmers. If you don’t like social interaction and I don’t blame you, I don’t like talking to old people either, watching TV shows from the time will also give you an insight. Top Of The Pops in my view is the best show to watch not because of the awful obvious lip-syncing, like how did they fool anyone when they’re playing electric guitars plugged into nothing ? But because you can see how both celebrities and normal people dressed.
Tumblr media
 Other shows I would recommend have to be of course friends, we all know that Rachel Greene was a 90s fashion icon, ok. To summarise, research means that shopping for your chosen vintage aesthetic is a lot easier, you can avoid common mistakes such as buying something that’s way too modern or clothing which was not fashionable in that particular era.
When you have decided what vintage era you’re shopping for and what you are looking for, knowing where to shop is the next priority. Like I said I live in the UK so some of these are maybe UK specific and I don’t have loads of money, so that narrows down some of the options. One of the best places to look for vintage clothing is charity shops. Due to the troubling economic climate at the moment there’s like 10 charity shops in every town spreading like head lice in a primary school. Consequently, it’s probably the most accessible way to shop for vintage clothes. If you are like me and favour an 80s/ 90s aesthetic look in the mens section as most of the clothes from this era were unisex or have a more oversized boxy look which means many volunteers mistakenly put these items in the mens. Anyway who need to conform to gender norms, wear what you like! Unfortunately, some charity shops have caught on to the popularisation of vintage aesthetics as such some items will go on their online shops (Still worth a look) or prices for vintage clothing will be higher than other pieces of clothing but bear in mind these prices tend to still be lower than eBay and vintage shops. It’s really hit and miss but when you do find something it’s normally a bargain. Recently I managed to get a wind breaker for £8.99 and it even had it’s original tag still attached! Plus this method of shopping for vintage clothes is ethical and helps real good causes.
Tumblr media
Another place where I look for vintage clothing is car boot sales. Normally you find absolutely nothing but they’re still fun to go to nonetheless. Anyway you could strike it lucky and find a long lost supremes costume at a French car boot (yes that really happened!). If you do find anything the great thing about car boots is that you can let out your inner apprentice candidate and haggle on prices. Though it’s rare to find anything apart from old ladies’ bone china plates with matching bowls, if you do you tend to find something you’ll get it for a steal when compared to eBay.
Shops that specialises in selling vintage clothing obviously will have the most stock and variety of pieces however, it’s going to cost you. Vintage sales are also a possibility but though the ‘low’ price per kilo is enticing once you put one sweatshirt or a pair of jeans in that bag you’re done for. Vintage sales are only good value for money when all the items you want are super light, if not they can become super expensive real quick. Also be aware that though these are called vintage sales there are a lot of items that are not vintage in the slightest.
Tumblr media
So, how can you tell if a piece of clothing is vintage? The first thing I look at is the label. Most vintage t-shirts and jumpers will have a label sewn in, while modern clothing will have what would been the label printed into the fabric. It’s hard to explain so here’s an example:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
However, this is not a definite rule some modern clothing will also have labels that are sewn in! Some over things to look out for to identify vintage clothing from modern is the materials. Look out for those incredibly flammable and definitely safe materials. Zips are also a big clue if a piece of clothing is vintage or not, older clothing tended to have metal zips while modern pieces have plastic. This is probably a cost cutting measure.
We all know that vintage clothing can be expensive so buying new versions of retro products can also be a possibility if you want to go for a certain retro aesthetic. This is a cheaper way of shopping however, quality and durability may vary when compared to the original product. I always buy new when it comes to shoes just because I’m not a fan of wearing someone’s else's incredibly worn 20+ years old trainers. But whatever floats your boat, I guess. Most athleisure brands like reebok will do a classic range which replicates retro shoes such as the freestyle hi which was worn by 11 in Stranger things 3.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
 Brands like Casio also continues to make vintage products such as the F-91W which sometimes gets discounted to as low as £7.99. The quality of these are superb and can add retro feel to any outfit.
so, there's some of my tips for how to shop for vintage clothing, this isn't all of them but I think this post is way too long now! If you have any tips that you would like to share please write them in the comments. I love learning new things!!

~~~MERRAY CHRISTMAS 2017!!!~~~
It’s been a rough and turbulent year for many, but I hope that everyone who sees this can have some peace over this holiday season.  Spend time with the ones you love, enjoy some yummy food, open and share gifts, just have some time for you.
And if you really want to, celebrate Christmas with whatever traditions you hold dear!  The more unusual the better.
This year the Rayman family are celebrating Christmas with some unique and unusual traditions from around the world.  Had a lot of fun reading up on some of these traditions and their origins, and then deciding which character would best represent each tradition.  It seems fitting considering how many wonderful friends I’ve made from around the world through this iconic game series.  And here’s hoping to meet many many more in the coming year!
A full list of what each character represents is under the read more ;)
Going clockwise round the tree, starting with Rayman: Rayman: Yule Lads - Iceland Christmas isn’t christmas without a little festive mischief, and in Iceland they have a whole team of mischievous mythical chaps to cause mayhem called the Yule Lads.  These include folk like Askasleikir (Bowl Licker), Stekkjarstaur (Sheep-Cote Clod) and Pottaskefill (Pot Scraper) but Rayman is specifically dressed as Gáttaþefur, the Doorway Sniffer who uses his big nose to sniff out tasty baked goods :)  Finally Rayman gets to put that nose of his to good use XD Globox: Traditional St Nicholas - England/Germany Actually struggled to find the accurate origins of this version of St Nicholas.  Before CocaCola decked Santa in red in the 1930’s the jolly present giver appeared in a variety of different costumes including a green robe and a crown of holly.  Credit should also be given to the Ghost of Christmas Present from Charles Dickins A Christmas Carol who wears the same outfit.  Really Globox represents the non-commercial depictions of Father Christmas! Uglette + kids: Christmas Pudding & Silver Sixpence - UK The Christmas Pudding is a popular traditional stable of the Christmas dinner in the UK, and there are a few traditions associated with preparing it.  One tradition states that each member of the family should take a turn stirring the pudding mixture from east to west (which considering the size of the Globox family could take some time!).  Another tradition is the inclusion of a Silver Sixpence, which is placed in the pudding mixture before baking.   Whoever receives the sixpence in their pudding portion gets to keep it! The Globox Kids: Mari Lwyd - Wales Probably the creepiest Christmas tradition I found was from Wales, and it was particularly bizarre since I’ve lived in Wales for 3 years and have never heard of this XD  A horse skull decorated with ribbons and trinkets is attached to a stick and draped with a white cloth (to cover the person ‘wearing’ it), and the Mari Lwyd is lead from house to house to sing and perform dances for the residents.  It’s a little like Wassailing, bringing round joy and holiday cheer to neighbors.  Raymesis doesn’t seem to appreciate Mari Lwyd’s song ;) Raymesis: The Krampus - Germany If you’ve been naughty it’s not Santa you should be afraid of, as Mr Krampus is a LOT more horrifying.  A demonic creature who accompanies Santa and punishes naughty kids, the Krampus has gained popularity in recent years inspiring people to make their own costumes and parade round as him.  Also everyone should watch The Krampus movie, it’s great :D Voodoo Mama: Christmas Spiderwebs - Ukraine/Eastern Europe Considered to be the origins of Tinsel, the Christmas Spider is a tale about a hard working arachnid who helps decorate the tree of a poor family in time for christmas.  When the first sunlight of christmas day fell on the spiderwebs they turned to gold and silver, and the family were never poor again.  Such a sweet story, and considering the prevalence of spiders in Rayman’s world this seems like something the Glade residents would celebrate. Sssam: Hanging Stockings - Europe/America While the official origins of this tradition are unknown the concept of hanging stockings by the fire for Santa date back as far as the 1800’s.  The most famous story is of St Nicholas leaving gold coins in the stockings of three poor sisters, which were hanging by the fire to dry.  Nowadays stockings are elaborate and often personalised.  Can you guess who the stockings Sssam is wearing belong to? ;) Lac-Mac: Gävle Goat - Sweden In Sweden the Yule Goat is a popular and beloved Christmas creature, a friend to Santa on par with his own reindeer.  As part of their Christmas celebrations the town of Gävle erects a giant straw goat in the town center, which has become a popular tourist attraction.  But unfortunately it’s not just the size that makes it famous (despite the fact it’s a Guinness World Record winner).  The Gävle Goat has the unfortunate curse of being vandalised or set on fire by random people to the point where it’s become a tradition to see if the goat will make it to New year.  Probably a good idea to stay away from open flames, Lac Mac ;D Murfy: The Christmas Pickle - America/Canada While a lot of cultures enjoy eating pickled foods around Christmas time, the Christmas Pickle is an oddity as while people believe it started in Germany it’s actually an American/Canadian invention based on a pickle tree decoration!  In some homes the family will hide a pickle ornament on the tree for the kids to find.  But real, edible pickles are good too and better to share with friends :D Betilla: Befana the Witch - Italy Santa isn’t the only deliverer of pressies to kids.  In Italy the kindly witch Befana flies about on her broom filling the shoes of good children on the Feast of the Epiphany (Jan 6th), and will even sweep your floor before she moves on!  I figured Betilla would like playing the part of a good witch bringing kids joy :D Barbara and Holly: Roller Skating to Mass - Venezuela On Christmas day it’s not uncommon for the cities of Venezuela to close their roads and open them only to the people, hurrying to Mass services on roller skates!  Seems like the Holiday Princess has managed to rope one of her interdimentional cousins to skate with her, and Barbara is a little out of her depth XD The Teensie Doctors: Three Kings Night - Spain Much like Befana the Three Kings/Wise Men of the Bible are responsible for filling the shoes of good Spanish children on Jan 5th.  The Teensie Doctors seem to be taking their work very seriously…for the most part… Romeo Patti: Shoe Throwing - Czech Republic Normally a tradition performed by women (but Romeo is all about breaking the norm!) the idea is to toss a shoe over your shoulder while facing the front door of your house.  Depending on how it lands will determine if you’ll be married that year, though I’m not sure the prediction is accurate if you hit your friends in the process. O_O Ly: KFC Mascot girl - Japan While many families will traditionally sit down to a home cooked meal at Christmas, in Japan KFC does gangbuster business with families ordering their seasonal chicken bucket meals months in advance!  Ly is dressed in the clothes worn by the Japanese KFC promotinal girl…though now I’m looking at it maybe I should have dressed her up as Colonel Sanders.  She could have easily rocked the white suit! Tily: St Lucia - Scandinavia Decipted as a young woman dressed in white with a crown of holy and candles, St Lucia is a symbol of light and comfort bringing food to the hungry.  She is often shown carrying bread and sweet buns to distribute to the poor.  Funnily enough I know I’ve seen someone draw Tily as St Lucia in the past, so that inspired her appearance in this picture!
The inside- and out of cricket gloves and where to find them
The inside- and out of cricket gloves and where to find them
A general rule of the game of cricket is that both batsmen, as well as the wicketkeeper, must wear gloves during a match, and with good reason! Cricket gloves are designed to protect the hand and fingers from serious injury because a high-speed cricket ball that hits the hand can easily break a finger.
International cricketer Shoaib Akhtar (Pakistan) currently holds the top position as the world's fastest bowler with a record of reaching a bowling speed of 161.3 km/h (100.2 mp/h) during a match. A cricket ball that hits any part of the body at this speed will definitely result in serious injury if you do not wear the necessary protection to prevent it.
No batsman willingly wants to expose his hands to injury either, and nowadays there are a great variety of cricket gloves available, many by well-known brands like Gray Nicolls, GM and Kookaburra to name a few. They differ in quality, size and efficiency but players' personal preference also plays a big role in their purchase.
While they serve to protect the hand and fingers, cricket gloves should be lightweight so that the batsman can handle his bat comfortably. It usually consists of flexible padding on the thumb and the first two fingers. Leather is an important component in the manufacture of cricket gloves as it is durable and flexible while also providing that extra layer of protection.
The Kookaburra Kahuna Players Edition cricket gloves are currently rated as number one among the top 10 batting gloves, with New Balance DC 880 ranking in the second position. When choosing your cricket gear and equipment, the right sized bat, for example, is crucial for ultimate performance, but cricket gloves are also an essential part of any batman’s armoury. They should fit comfortably and not hinder your performance in any way.
It is recommended that a small junior player use a cricket glove size of 16.5cm-17.5cm, while medium junior players should play with a glove size of around 17.5cm-19cm. A glove size of 19cm-20cm is recommended for youths and small men or women should opt for a size of 20cm-21cm. These are only recommendations for when you are looking to buy cricket gloves online, but it might be a good idea to test out some gloves beforehand, to make sure about the right size and fit.
Apart from protecting the hands and fingers, many batsmen firmly believe that batting gloves also provide better grip and some would say that, in colder weather, it helps prevent vibration and sting. You should avoid cleaning your cricket gloves with harsh chemicals and liquid cleaners, as this may damage the outer part of the glove.
The best way to clean your gloves is to gently brush the surface with a soft-bristled brush to remove dirt. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to clean the leather portions of the gloves and keep them pliable. Never expose your gloves to the weather elements by leaving them outside in the rain or direct sunlight.
While cricket gloves take a lot of beating during a match, they should last at least an entire season, but with young players, they should last longer. Professional cricketers will use them more often, which means they might not last as long. They could also start to tear after prolonged use which is why you should preferably always have a spare pair of cricket gloves in your kit.
Levi’s Launches Its Most Sustainable Jean Ever
Welcome to Refinery29 Loves, our weekly bulletin where you'll find the best things to shop and see in fashion right now. In the best of fashion this week, Converse has us falling for platform kicks like it's 1992, Burberry's new campaign celebrates community, and Levi's launches its most sustainable denim yet.
Levi’s Launches It's Most Sustainable Jean Ever As part of its WellThread line, Levi's has launched its most sustainable jean ever. Coming in the 502 style for men and High Loose for women, the denim – made from organic cotton and Circulose®, a breakthrough material produced from worn-out jeans – is the result of five years of research. Even better? Priced at £115, the jeans can themselves be recycled through an existing chemical process, marking a real milestone in fashion's circular economy. Levi's WellThread High Loose Jeans are available here now. Levi's WellThread High Loose Jeans, $, available at Levi's
Converse Launches Elevation Collection Converse has convinced us that the only shoes we're donning this year are sky-high and thoroughly retro. Thanks to the footwear giant's most recent iteration of its classic Chuck Taylor style – the All Star Move, featuring a soft, elevated EVA foam midsole – we're feeling all kinds of '90s nostalgia. Alongside the Move, the Elevation collection features a new take on the bestselling Run Star Hike, with a low top but just as high sole. Coming in at £70 and £85 respectively, we're styling these ultra comfy platform kicks with printed, patterned and sheer shocks. Converse's Elevation Collection is available here now. Burberry Celebrates Staff & Community In Its SS21 Pre-Collection Campaign "This season, I wanted to draw upon the familiar, the things that bring us comfort and strength," said Burberry's chief creative officer Riccardo Tisci of the SS21 Pre-Collection. Returning to the elements of the heritage brand that first inspired him – think check, stripes and unicorn emblems – and adding a spray of roses motif in homage to nature, he called upon the company's internal talent to model the collection outside their front doors. Part street style, part celebration of the label as family, part ode to the four walls we've been locked down in since March, we think the pieces look better than ever modelled by real people in their own homes. You can view Burberry's SS21 Pre-Collection here.
Lulu Guinness Dice Bag Lulu Guiness' creative director David Hodgson has been trawling through the brand's tongue-in-cheek archive to find inspiration and boy, did he find it. He's relaunching the iconic Dice Bag – a cube crafted in acrylic with a wristlet for carrying – at £195. The bag was originally designed to fit a house key, £20 note and lipstick. What else do you really need? The Lulu Guinness Dice Clutch Bag is available now. Lulu Guinness Black Dice Clutch Bag, $, available at Lulu Guinness
Forbes made a rating of Fab 40, in which he rated the most expensive brands in the world of sports - from manufacturers of training suits to football clubs.
Tumblr media
Brands, like the athletes who advertise them, can triumphantly return - or quickly bother the public. The brand value of a sports team is influenced by the actions of managers and players. Sporting events may or may not be popular. All this is reflected in our assessment of brands, writes Forbes. A prime example: six years ago, Puma's profit fell while its rivals Nike and Adidas reported large revenues. Puma has devised an incredible comeback plan including collaboration with singer Rihanna and sprinter Usain Bolt. Puma shares rose 74% over the past year, while Adidas shares were up 46% and Nike were up 25%. Impressive? The Puma price / earnings ratio is 46, and against its background, Nike (35) and Adidas (30) look cheap. This year, Puma first entered the Fab 40 ranking and ranks sixth in the Companies category. Her brand - that is, only one name - is estimated at $ 4 billion. Back side? Take a look at Under Armor, whose brand is worth $ 3.5 billion - 36% less than three years ago. Under Armor is losing market share to brands like Puma and New Balance. According to CNBC, the company is growing concern that consumers perceive Under Armor exclusively as a brand of “gym wear” that sells sweatshirts and shorts. Since late July, the company's shares fell from $ 24 to $ 18. In addition to Puma, this year the newcomer to the Fab 40 rating was Gatorade (the manufacturer accounts for 77% of the sports drinks market, and we decided that it can be considered a sports brand). In addition, the Kentucky derby (last place in the Fab 40 in 2013), Conor McGregor and the Los Angeles Dodgers (Fab 40 participants in 2016) returned to the ranking. MLBAM (sold the BamTech brand to Walt Disney), NESN (lost in value to Gatorade and Puma), Usain Bolt (retired) and Manchester United (replaced by New England Patriots and Barcelona clubs) left the list.
Companies
1. Nike, $ 36.8 billion Over the past two years, Nike stocks outperformed Adidas stocks by more than two to one and Under Armor stocks by more than four to one. 2. ESPN, $ 13.1 billion ESPN's operating income exceeds $ 3 billion with monthly membership fees of $ 8 — more than any other sports network. 3. Adidas, $ 11.2 billion In April, Beyoncé and Adidas announced a joint project, in which the artist will develop branded clothing and shoes for the brand. 4. Gatorade, $ 6.7 billion Gatorade holds 77% of the US sports beverage market, while Powerade’s closest competitor is only 15%. 5. Sky Sports, $ 4.4 billion In 2018-2019, the audience of the Sky Sports Premier League television channel in the UK grew by 12%. 6. Puma, $ 4 billion In the first nine months of 2019, Puma shares went up 60% to $ 79. 7. Under Armor, $ 3.5 billion Over the past two years, Under Armor operating income (revenue excluding interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) has fallen by 72% to $ 157 million. 8.
