Her nightmares are either very random with themes of failing, losing something, getting caught - or of dead people :) For the first kind, she might read a chapter of a book or something but then go back to sleep, for the second, she'll find something else to do for at least an hour, sometimes the rest of the night. She does not tell people, not even Damien.

Eilis is terribly afraid of the dark. If one were to, say, lock her in a dark basement, that wouldn't go over well :) She'd get a panic attack, and might hurt herself trying to get out

No one has seen her. It's dark, Anna.

Merry can't lose any more people. We get a glimpse of that at the start of arc 3 of Glass Shards. If she were completely alone, with absolutely no one remotely close to her, it's likely she'd just give up.

I'm not sure which exactly would be her lowest point, but it's safe to assume people have seen most of those. Well, the start of Nuisance was pretty low, for starters...

Early Caldyn hid part of his magic. It's not what it's supposed to be, and it would scare people, and it scares even him.

Current Caldyn hides his nightmares, when he's in pain, or otherwise feeling unwell. He's fine!

There's a lot of reasons for that. He doesn't like to seem helpless, because people easily assume he is already. He has some trust issues (no shit). He has a hard time accepting help, when he is the one who should be helping. Deep inside, he fears that when he's too weak or needy, those close to him might turn away from him (thanks, fucker).

She wants nothing more than to find out what happened to her family. She never will. She just has to accept that they're dead, even if there will always be the small voice in her head wondering "what if", so she tries not to think about it too hard.

They're pretty even. Merridy is a bit more likely to initiate, while Damien will just give her this sad look lol

I think they both have things they get embarrassed about. Damien tries very hard to be a Regular Guy with capital letters, so if he'd draw any kind of attention it might embarrass him. Meanwhile Merridy gets very self conscious when someone points out a weird habit of hers.

Oh Eilis is by far the most stubborn one. Worse than the goat.

Depends. If it's just a mask, covering the face/head? Absolutely. I mean uh, even if we ignore that missing arm thing 😅 They know each other well.

Now for the interesting interpretation, I think even with a full body illusion, Merridy might be able to recognize Damien — more likely if she has any reason to suspect it. She wouldn't think a random stranger who has the same posture as Damien is him, but if she were searching for him, or he did anything suspicious, yeah.

On the other hand, if she really wants to vanish behind a mask, it's less likely he'd recognize her. She does not only dress up, she plays the part, hiding her own mannerisms, at least for a while.

A few fun random little things I can think of:

She rereads her favorite novels so often, she can quote whole chapters.

The seamstress she works for has a flock of sheep, and even though caring for them isn't part of Merry's job, she spends much time there. She loves sheep. She also owns a few chickens on her boss' property, so they don't have to keep them in their own yard.

She doesn't like to mix some parts of her food, like sweet things with hearty stuff, and she'd rather dip stuff into sauce one by one than allow her food to be soaked. Damien will serve things separately, or keep some aside for her, unless she tells him it's fine.

Cilantro tastes like soap to her, much to his confusion.

She returns to Caldeia at least once per year, visiting her friends. Usually it's around the time of the queen's festival, because who says no to free food? She'll bring back enough candy to last for months.

Eh, I've shoved it back and back and back for weeks now, and I got tired of it, so I allowed it to escape queue, lol.

∇ -. old age/aging headcanon - Merry & Damien

The two of them will stay in Nimrisé forever. After certain events I might or might not get around to writing, Damien is pardoned, so he doesn't have to live in fear of being discovered anymore. Merridy keeps working at the tailor, and he runs his glass business for a long time.

They will not have children — Damien has had enough after raising his brother, and Merridy would never want to have some of her own — but they're great uncle and aunt to Valadan's kids, and later grandkids.

☆ - happy headcanon - Riordan, Breannan

Riordan buys the house next to Merry and Damien. He pretty much spends more time at their place than his, but he's messy, and also occasionally enjoys having company overnight, so it works out well that way.

Breannan's dream was always to collect stories and legends that are locally told, some of which don't even have written records. He took lots of notes during his time of traveling the world.

Unfortunately, he has zero talent for storytelling. He can recite what he's read, but he has a super hard time putting stories down. After certain events that I absolutely will write, so nano will, he'll find a co-author, and together they will publish at least one work that becomes famous.

Parietal Lobe (physical sensation)

We're keeping it sfw, yes? Yes. I mean, Cedric likes warmth (or rather, he absolutely loathes the cold), and comfortable clothes, but that's nothing special. He also likes to touch crystals and gemstones. They are easiest for him to manipulate with his magic, and touching them gives a special magical sensation he enjoys.

Occipital Lobe (vision)

When Damien is not currently busy looking at Merry and thinking about how lucky he is, and how much he loves her, he loves nature. The sky, the ocean, flowers... He'll never get tired of watching the sunset, or the stars, or the waves,... Or Merry.

Wernicke's Area (language comprehension)

Merridy prefers reading to listening, with one exception :D Guess which that one is. She's a fast reader, and doesn't always have an easy time following something while listening to it.

I already answered with Valadan, but if we look at another angle: Breannan. Not on such a grand scale—his position comes with a lot of responsibility, and he is very diligent.

But outside his profession, especially regarding personal business, he often acts without thinking things through. Remembering a book? Aaand he's off to look for it. Having a theory? Better try to check it instantly. He will spontaneously take the strangest routes home because he wanted to walk past a lake, or look at a thing. He sees his friend dying in the infirmary and just decides, you know what, let's take him home!

He does need a rather strict schedule to keep himself on track, but he also needs his microdoses of freedom, to know that he can do what he want, go where he wants.

Also there's the ADHD.

I mean. They're all pretty emotional, even if not all of them show it the same. That's the whole point of breaking them down writing them.

I think Merry is one of those who show it more openly. She can't hide her feelings well, neither positive nor negative ones. She gets attached quickly, to people and things, and is afraid of loss. She cries easily, and especially when we deal with the mean author pushing people she cares about to the brink of death cough she will lose her composure. She enjoys and is happy about small things, some candy, a book, a pretty flower, and will show it, and as long as she feels remotely safe, she will also show her dislike openly :D

Old age and appearance headcanons for Damien? (And Merry!)

As she grows older, her eyesight gets worse, until she can't read anymore - so Damien learns how to make glasses. Even with glasses, he will often read to her instead, which she still loves as much as the first time he did it.

At the end of the current story, Damien is already going grey. Merry is 10 years younger, but she'll follow in a couple of years.

The speed of which might depend on if I get my hands on them again.

I mean, if we exclude murder 🙄 Nothing, really. A lie or two, that's it. She always tried to keep out of trouble, because her roommates were enough trouble already.

No such thing exists in their world. Assuming some entity said to be evil and trick people and take their souls — most likely not.

7 How far is your OC willing to go to get what they want?

That really depends on what he wants. Most things, he puts aside easily, especially if they're "just" for him. For other things — helping friends or gathering knowledge — he'd absolutely cross an ocean or two, or spend years combing through libraries.

She doesn't hate easily, but all the people who hurt Damien are on top of the list. She doesn't really have any enemies or anything.

Well, uh, Seyonna's life would be over, so that's that.

Caldyn would most likely spend years living in the valley, and he would not get the [redacted] to return. Bit of a draw between staying there, even when Cecelia and Marian eventually leave, or returning to the tree despite his discomfort because he is too lonely.

They do not necessarily share any hobbies, except for their love of stories, so they will sometimes read together, or to each other. But even if they're not doing the same thing, they will happily do it next to each other; they're just a tiny bit clingy 🤏 for absolutely no reason.

One of his best qualities is being able to cling to hope - something he would vehemently deny. No matter how often he insists there's no hope, he should give up, he keeps fighting, and even at the end of Undeserved, all it takes is a few nice words and he tries.

His worst is the image he has of himself, and the nonexistent self-worth.

He'd have a hard time answering both questions for himself. Good quality? He'd pick something he's physically good at, because that's harder to deny and easier to accept.

For worst, he would insist that he is a horrible person because of what he did, and until the end of the Fancy Boots arc, asking him why he did it and if he'd ever choose it, would just cause him to spiral.

Valadan I already answered with no, Riordan also gets a no. Again, I really didn't consider it at all.

It's something she always thought of as something that would happen eventually, without actually wondering about if she wants it. Everyone does get married, right?

When she realized that she would never be good enough for a normal relationship (🙃), those thoughts got pushed into a corner. Now she's been calling Damien her husband from the moment they arrived in Dragon's Reach, because it keeps questions at bay.

If it was possible for them to actually get married - which it isn't, because getting registered when there's a bounty on your head and a noose waiting is a bad idea - she would consider it, if he'd be on board.

Either way, she does not care about the wedding at all.

I'm really not sure how to answer that. I mean uh *gestures vaguely at Undeserved* No, absolutely not.

About halfway through Glass Shards, he finally will fight for what e wants, but as long as there's a bounty on his head, the default reaction to a perceived threat is still "she'd be better off without me."

He has also a bad time asking for help, but luckily he has friends who don't need to be asked.

Pre-HmW about everything can make him angry, though most of it stems from feeling inadequate in one way or another. People who flaunt how much better they are - even if he merely perceives it that way. People who seem to threaten him. Having a shit day in general.

It has become much better since he married Josephine. He never wants to be like his father, so he tried really hard to learn handling his anger. The one thing that will still make him fly off the handle is someone threatening his family - sadly, this as well goes for presumed threats 😶
