Here it is! One of my favorite monoeye suits and my first painted build of 2025, the HGUC Messer Type-F01! Like my previous builds this is fully hand painted with Mr. Hobby Aqueous paints, along with Mr. Hobby Acrysion fluorescent colors for the monoeye, beam rifle scope and beam saber.

I went for a mostly screen accurate look here- closely matching the color guide, only adding a few new panel lines and deepening the existing lines and holes, and going light on the decals. I also used some joint parts from the HGBC Ballden Arms pack to give the back skirts better articulation that sort of matches what they can do in the movie. And it came out great! With how dark the movie can be it's a little hard to use as a reference but when recreating some of the poses from it I knew I had exactly what I was looking for.

There were some interesting challenges with removing the seams on this kit. The beam rifle was easy enough, but both the head and arms needed other parts to be part of the assembly before being welded together. After some very careful painting though they both look great, just like if the seam lines were never there to begin with. The fluorescent paints are my favorite part of this build, especially for the monoeye. It adds a ton of menacing energy to an already mean suit (even if the colors aren't exactly right) and really brings the suit to life. It's definitely something I want to do more of on my future projects.

This was a pretty fast build overall so I'm hoping I can translate that speed to the other projects I have in mind (though definitely not a kit a month). Next time though I'll have some more snap builds from the backlog to show so for now, I hope you enjoy! ✌🏼

That Amuro and Bright post is hold for a bit. So instead let me ponder about the Messer MS line, specifically the movie version:

So this suit is the direct follow up to the Sazabi and the Geara Doga, and just like those two it is developed and sold by Anaheim Electronics. It is a formidable and chonky unit being pretty much equal to the Gustav Karl.

The actual specs from the HG manual put it at almost exact same height, power output as the Karl with the biggest difference being that the Messer has a slightly higher thrust strength.

Which makes sense we see the Messer actually get some work done in both the movie and the novels as opposed to the Gustav which needs the numbers advantage and complete lack of care for collateral damage to get anything done.

But the Messer has a great standout feature, since it was purpose built for in-atmo guerilla combat it's large backskirt is actually a stabilizer allowing for greater control during free fall, which makes avoiding collateral damage easier and makes the suit overall more maneuverable than than it's EFF counterpart.

Even before the movie started the suit was already developed further into two units:

The Me02R-F02 Messer Type-F02, which is almost exactly the same suit, with the only different being the flared out shin armor, which paired with the leg thrusters greatly improves the suits hover time.

And the Me02R-Fc Messer Type-F Naked, which is the Messer F01 but with a mounted head antenna and a small backpack thruster. The one we see in the movie is stripped of all it's weapons because it was being used to obtain the Gundam but due to the HGs manual we can assume that it would use a similar loadout to the others. This suit is painted pink and purple to probably stand out, and it's original pilot was Hathaway Noa.

The Type-F01 is piloted by Nobile Gawman in the movie, the Type-F02 is piloted by Golf and Fencer and the Type-F is piloted by Emeralda Zabin

I think that there's something to be said about how every suit under Mafty use is colored with that red and orange people associate with Char, every suit except those used by Hathaway. Mafty as an organization and Quack Salver specifically like that reputation that comes with being "the next coming of Char" which is not surprising. The problem is that Hathaway clearly has some disdain with being compared to Char, as well he is the reason that Hathaway is even in this mess.

But he gets out of it, by first having that commander unit painted a different color, more than likely under the justification that it's supposed to stand out to draw the fire to himself, and then second by getting the white Xi Gundam.

Now onto some fun facts about the suit:

1. Messer is knife in German.

2. Since the movie version is based on the Sazabi it's cockpit is located in the head, this can be seen in scene where Hathaway gets the Xi Gundam.

3. Nobuhiko Genma and Hajime Katoki both worked on designing the movie version of the Messer and according to the official Gundam Hathaway pamphlet they modified a model of the Sazabi for their own custom Messer.

4. The F02 and F Types HG's only released under P-Bandai with the F01 type being the retail version.

Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway, svelati un nuovo trailer del film e i primi membri del cast

La pellicola debutterà in Giappone il 23 luglio.

Pubblicati da Sunrise una nuova locandina e un secondo teaser trailer per il film “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway” il cui debutto nelle sale giapponesi è stato fissato per il 23 luglio. Il tema musicale della pellicola sarà ad opera della rock band [ALEXANDROS].

Il progetto cinematografico, annunciato come trilogia di film, si basa sul romanzo in tre volumi “Mobile Suit Gundam: Hathaway’s Flash” scritto da Yoshiyuki Tomino fra il 1989 e il 1990. La storia è ambientata nello Universal Century, dodici anni dopo gli eventi raccontati nel film “Gundam: Il contrattacco di Char”, ed è incentrata su Hathaway Noa, il figlio di Bright Noa.

I just had this realization:

The manual of the HG Messer 100% confirms that Gundam Hathaway takes place within UC canon, the one where Hathaway killed Chan.

This is because as per the manual the movie Me02R-F01 Messer Type-F01 (aka the first model Messer that the line further developed into) is the direct follow up to the Sazabi, a suit that never existed in BC.

So then who is the one confirmed kill that Hathaway has, it can't be Chan as she was a part of the EF, so who's the one confirmed hostile?

I really hope my theory is correct, that Bright had the records altered to help his son, he had the fact that the Jegan shot down the Re-GZ removed and instead credited α Azieru to it.

Or it could just be the Geara Doga ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

(So anyone trying to tell you that the movie is canon to BC is lying) (meant for a specific person but I won't say who)
