let's do a Things That Happen In This Novel for "drowning naomi"

-lukas goes away

-Joey quits school to do political comics

-Fiona has a phone argument with a cop in her sad divorce apartment

-Naomi has cause to go to Fiona's sad divorce apartment and is struck by how sad it is.

-Naomi goes to calculus class and Professor Blanchet is dead

-Yvaine is introduced- how?

-they visit Professor Blanchet's dead body. it's across the room and has burns on its hands, in addition to the lamp injury

-Dr. Blanchet talks to Fiona about what he remembers- the girl who wouldn't take a shortbread.

-flashback to Naomi meeting professor blanchet who is kindly and fled Kolvan because they wanted him to build bombs/paladins.

-Patrick Drake explains the Hull Project. naomi sees a home-team paladin that isn't finished.

-Naomi meets Micah, Celeste, and (sort of) Seraphine

-Naomi meets Seraphine in more detail

-Naomi hangs out and talks to Celeste

-Naomi kisses Celeste.

-Seraphine didn't help Yvaine murder professor blanchet but she says she did so Seraphine gets in less trouble.

Naomi is bad at piloting a paladin.

Yvaine has a motive which is... something.

Yvaine comes after Patrick Drake and he either hides this fact entirely or suddenly people are way more interested in solving professor blanchet's murder, which is annoying to Naomi.

we think Patrick Drake might have been controlling the murderer but then someone tries to kill him.

Yvaine is Tabitha's sister and that's how Seraphine got recruited for the Hull Project.

Naomi meets Yvaine because... she joins the friend group? specifically looking to keep tabs on Naomi?

Naomi has Emotions about piloting a paladin.

"Just heard from the managers: all the tickets sold out," Micah says with a singsong voice as he ducks into the rehearsal room. He holds something behind his back, and tip-toes in with all his grace. "One for the money, two for the show..." And he pulls out a celebratory cupcake.

Seraphine gasps at the sight, hands clasping together, and jumps to her feet. “Micah! You shouldn’t have!”

Well, alright, she doesn’t mean that - she’s just really thankful, and...! That’s what people say in times like these! She takes it from him with a grin, and is about to pluck the slice of strawberry from atop the frosting, when...

I can't remember if this has been answered before somewhere but what do the Seraphine family think of each others aliases? Like I'm vaguely aware some don't know that their family is part of the hero or villain squad. So what's their opinion overall on them? Like what does Micah think of Lucifer Incarnate and vice versa??

Simple answer is that Micah/Celestial Shimmer and Evangeline/Lucifer Incarnate are nemesises! Full stop! They’re the ones who mainly have no idea about the others’ occupation, and as the leaders of their respective teams they are of course mortal enemies on the job.

The reasons for their enemy ship is slightly more complex. I imagine Micah HAS tried to lend Luci a hand and redeem her, but she merely fought back. To Evangeline, Celestial Shimmer and the hero league represents the box she was going to be forced in because she had powers, and of course she’s not going to give up the empire she has built because the leader takes pity on her. After her bloody disregards and the crimes her team have committed (such as Sophia’s murder and Mason’s abuse), Micah doesn’t see any redemption in Luci.

He has slightly more complex thoughts on Fallen Angel, as even though Celestial’s entire face is hidden and they basically never speak in their alter ego, he can still tell they’re a young adult thanks to their body and of course he doesn’t want someone as young as them being wrapped up in villainy! If given the chance he’d try to give Fallen Angel a chance at redemption, but they’re never seen without Luci...

Evangeline also has complex feelings on Pitch Black, because she thinks they’re nothing but a mindless sidekick to Celestial Shimmer, but at the same time due to their shared powers she believes she could be a wonderful mentor if they switched sides. I imagine there have been a few times where Luci has been able to talk to Pitch Black in private and has offered to become her mentor... that’s how Acantha realized Luci was her mom. Because of the similar voices and motherly energy. Luci treated her like how she normally treats Acantha, even though she didn’t know that was her daughter she was trying to manipulate to her side...

Acantha’s original feelings on the villains were that she resented them like any other villain! But Y’know after putting two and two together... yeah :(

And Castiel never minded the heroes and saw his mom’s plans of getting rid of them as nothing but the norm for them... but after seeing some scars Micah had thay resembled injures Celestial Shimmer took, He quickly realized things went deeper.

you're starting to get that greasy feeling you get when you haven't written in a few days. playing the sims a bunch is not going to help you figure out Micah and Celeste's character voices, actually.

hmmm. how did they die? how do they feel about each other and Seraphine?

micah died in Kolvereid and was separated from his first host when that host refused to participate in the program. they had never been as close as Naomi and Lukas and they fought a lot about it. he's not impressed with Naomi or Celeste and avoids Seraphine because she's wildly erratic.

was Celeste ever a soldier? how does this school work? I feel like she died on campus and woke up in the Hull Project. maybe she lived in town and was walking home tipsy and got hit by a car. she was studying medicine and literature and now she is a battery. she wants to be the kind of person who mostly ignores Micah, but there's nobody goddamn else to talk to, except for Seraphine in her more lucid moments.

okay, so there's three ghosts in the break room. one of them is the one Naomi is going to kiss (Celeste). one of them is probably unpleasant, but effective (Micah) and one of them is a fakeout for who murdered Professor Blanchet, I think (Seraphine).
