  I know this is probably not what most of you want to hear for a couple of reasons, maybe a combination of the two.  It’s the holiday weekend and you’re probably fed up with the rain and constant severe weather threat we’ve been experiencing.  The good news is that it’s going to take some time for this to materialize, and not all of your holiday weekend will be complicated by rain.

First off let’s start with your rain chances the rest of the day.�� Are you heading to the lake?  Are you spending time outside?  You’re going to be fine for a good majority of the day.  But our rain chances are definitely going up later this afternoon and especially closer to sunset and beyond.  Just plan ahead and prepare for this and you’re going to enjoy the daytime hours with relative ease.

That being said, the Storm Prediction Center has included us in another Slight risk category for severe weather today.  Recall that the Slight risk category was what we were included in yesterday prior to Tornado Watches being issued for the region.  I’m not saying this is going to be the case for sure, but I don’t want you to take the risk category lightly because of the name “Slight” (we don’t come up with the names.)

Here’s the first scenario for this afternoon: isolated storms will develop by later in the afternoon and early evening.  I don’t expect a wide coverage with the initial rain, but it’s possible that you’re going to get stuck under one of these if you’re outside.  Just be aware of the radar and your surroundings, and once again, you’ll be fine.

I am expecting a bit more widespread coverage to work its way into the metro and points west later in the evening.  I think this is when our severe threat increases.  If there’s no severe storms initially, this turns into a heavy rain event for most.

I still want you to be Weather Aware as a result of the increased severe weather threat though.  In almost identical fashion to yesterday, straightline wind gusts and small hail will be the main severe concerns.  We can’t rule out tornadoes, either.  I would expect them of the “spin up” variety like we encountered yesterday, as opposed to the longer track tornadoes of midweek.  Does this rule us out of some sort of Tornado Watch later on?  Certainly not.

You would think he will know what to expect – the Welsh side will be looking to get the ball in the box as much and as quickly as possible, and the pitch at Rodney Parade is not great either. City have got to deal with it, and the fact there are no replays from this round onwards adds an extra edge to this tie, because it will be settled on the night – they cannot take the tie back to the Etihad Stadium like Tottenham did when they drew in the fourth round last season and won at Wembley. I still think City will get the job done though. I cannot see him taking Newport too lightly. Prediction: Newport 0-2 Man City READ MORE MICHAEL OWEN – METRO City have won their two FA Cup ties by an aggregate score of 12-0 so far and I expect the Premier League champions to continue their recent goal-fest at the expense of the Exiles who lost at home to MK Dons midweek. The hosts Rodney Parade pitch may not be up to Premier League standard and it might take the Premier League champions longer than is the recent norm of late to find the back of the net, but when they do I expect them to run out emphatic winners. United left nothing out on the St James’ Park pitch midweek, however, have lost their last seven games at Wembley and I think the hosts will keep the points in the capital. He has scored with ten of the 17 shots he has had on target this season – that is some record. Michael’s prediction: Brighton 1-2 Watford Burnley vs Southampton James Ward-Prowse scored against Crystal Palace during the week (Getty Images)Two of the most improved sides in the division go head-to-head at Turf Moor although the Clarets will be disappointed to have dropped points from a 2-0 lead at Old Trafford for the second successive season. Only United (7) are on a longer unbeaten run in the Premier League than Burnley (5) but the Saints came from a goal down to pick up a point at home to Crystal Palace midweek and I feel this is a game that has draw written all over it. The Terriers have failed to score in their last five Premier League games and could not break down 10-man Everton at the John Smith’s Stadium earlier in the week. Things look bleak for new Town manager Jan Siewert although they certainly played with plenty of passion against Marco Silva’s side. Chelsea’ superior class to prevail. Fulham came from two-down at halftime to beat Brighton midweek, but they continue to leak goals although they are likely to play their part in a cracking London derby. Michael’s prediction: Crystal Palace 2-1 Fulham Everton vs Wolves Both sides gained valuable wins midweek with Everton grinding out a much-needed win at the John Smith’s Stadium. Wolves were more fluent in their 3-0 home win over West Ham and I feel they will get a result at what is sure to be a tense Goodison Park. The sides played out a thrilling 2-2 draw on the opening weekend of the season and I feel the points will again be shared on Saturday. Michael’s prediction: Everton 1-1 Wolves Cardiff City vs Bournemouth It is sure to be an emotional Cardiff City Stadium. Neil Warnock said it had been the most difficult week of his managerial career prior to the Bluebirds trip to Arsenal midweek and it will be the first home game for the club since the plane flown by David Ibbotson and carrying striker Emiliano Sala went missing over the English Channel ten days ago. The Cherries stuck four past Chelsea midweek, but I don’t see a repeat in the Welsh capital where one goal might be enough. Michael’s prediction: Cardiff City 0-0 Bournemouth Leicester City vs Manchester United Anthony Martial signed a new deal with Manchester United this week (Getty Images)Both sides came from behind to pick up a point midweek and Leicester impressed me enormously at Anfield where I felt they were good value for the draw. That said they have lost their last couple of home league games and I enjoy watching this new Manchester United side – something I couldn’t and wouldn’t have said earlier in the season. United have won their last five away games in all competitions and are clinical on the break. I feel the Red Devils will edge what promises to be a hugely entertaining game. Michael’s prediction: Leicester City 1-2 Manchester United Manchester City vs Arsenal Denis Suarez is in line to make his debut for Arsenal (Getty Images)Strange as it seems, I wonder if City scored too early against Newcastle midweek? Whatever the reason for their lethargic almost complacent performance they never brought their ‘A’ game to St James’ Park although that shouldn’t take anything away from a terrific win for the Magpies. City have now lost three league games having taken the lead and, when the dust has settled on the 2018/19 Premier League season, that might just be the difference as to whether they retain their title or not. Arsenal were no match for City on the opening day of the season and I can’t see them stopping a City side who will have been wounded by their north-east reverse. Michael’s prediction: Man City 4-1 Arsenal West Ham vs Liverpool Mohamed Salah has been in fine form for Liverpool (Getty Images)West Ham have lost their last four league games against Liverpool and conceded four goals in each of those losses, but they have won their last couple at the London Stadium and will be going all-out to put behind their recent away defeats at AFC Wimbledon and Wolves where they didn’t manage to muster a single shot on target. The Reds will have been disappointed not to have taken full advantage of Manchester City’s slip-up at Newcastle against Leicester, but they are five points clear with fourteen games to go and the title is in their hands. I expect to see Jurgen Klopp’s side return to winning ways on Monday evening. Michael’s Prediction: Cardiff City 0-2 Tottenham Bournemouth v Watford Bournemouth have conceded nine goals in their last two games (Picture: Getty)Five of the seven meetings between the sides in the Premier League have ended in a draw and I feel the spoils will be shared again at the Vitality Stadium midweek. The Cherries have lost eight of their last 10 Premier League games and have conceded at least two goals in each of those defeats including a 4-1 loss at Old Trafford on Sunday. An entertaining draw for me. Michael’s Prediction: Bournemouth 1-1 Watford Chelsea v Southampton N’Golo Kante was Chelsea’s unlikely matchwinner against Crystal Palace (Picture: Getty)Chelsea were narrow but convincing winners at Selhurst Park on Sunday and I feel they will put behind their loss to Leicester in their last home game. The Saints made six changes to the side beaten at home by West Ham when Manchester City were the visitors and I was slightly surprised to see the inform Nathan Redmond left on the bench until the second half. By that time the Saints were 3-1 down – I expect the points to stay in the capital. Michael’s Prediction: Chelsea 2-1 Southampton Huddersfield v Burnley The recalled Tom Heaton helped Burnley get back to winning ways against West Ham (Picture: Getty)Huddersfield failed to score in 20 Premier League games in 2018 and I fear the New Year will start with another blank for the Terriers who must be gutted to lose a point, and hand fellow strugglers Fulham three, at Craven Cottage at the weekend. Burnley bounced back from their heavy Boxing Day home defeat to Everton, to pick up maximum points at home to West Ham on Sunday and I feel they will get a draw in a game which is likely to be tight and tense. Michael’s Prediction: Huddersfield 0-0 Burnley West Ham v Brighton Marko Arnautovic’s return to fitness should be a boost to West Ham (Picture: Getty)Brighton have won all three Premier League games played between the clubs, but I expect to see the hosts bounce back from a poor performance and result at Turf Moor on Sunday. The Seagulls have lost seven of their last eight games played in the capital and I don’t expect them to get anything at the London Stadium, although the Hammers have conceded at least once in their last seven home Premier League games. Michael’s Prediction: West Ham 3-1 Brighton Wolves v Crystal Palace Raul Jimenez has been in excellent form for Wolves (Picture: Getty)Wolves have taken 13 points from their last six league games including a tremendous 3-1 win over Spurs at the weekend. Palace have failed to score in nine of their league games so far this season although they did win at the Etihad over Christmas. A home win for me but I don’t expect to see many goals at Molineux. Michael’s Prediction: Wolves 1-0 Crystal Palace Newcastle United v Manchester United Paul Pogba has been back to his very best under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer (Picture: Getty)Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will become just the second manager in the history of Manchester United – after Sir Matt Busby in 1946 – to win his first four games in charge of the club if his rejuvenated and energetic United side win at St James’s Park on Wednesday. The Magpies have lost seven of their ten home Premier League games so far this season but Rafa Benitez has won his last four home games against Manchester United with Premier League sides in all competitions – 2 x Liverpool, 1 x Chelsea and 1 x Newcastle. It promises to be an electric atmosphere at St James’s Park, but I expect the visitors to maintain their renaissance under Solksjaer and take all three points. Michael’s Prediction: Newcastle United 0-2 Manchester United Manchester City v Liverpool Liverpool can take a massive leap towards the title with a positive result at Man City (Picture: Getty)City won the corresponding fixture 5-0 last season, but that comprehensive win, following Sadio Mane’s red card, is their only win in the last 11 games between the clubs. I feel Liverpool will maintain their seven-point lead over City in the title-race by picking up a vital point at the Etihad. Sergio Aguero was back among the goals at St Mary’s on Sunday and the striker has scored in all six home league games against Liverpool. He may continue that sequence against Jurgen Klopp’s side, but I still feel the Reds will do enough to get a draw in what promises to be a cracker.
