#Minecraft terrain

I think the reason this “stylization” of Minecraft bugs me is because it’s inconsistent. Yes everything is block shaped, but those blocks vary in size all over the place. It doesn’t make sense. Why is so much of the terrain made up of different sized blocks?

And I’ve seen some people say “well that’s just to make it clear it’s a blocky world. It would look weird if the blocks were all the same size” and I just gotta ask…

Have you PLAYED Minecraft?

The landscapes in Minecraft, especially with shaders, are sometimes absolutely BREATHTAKING. And that’s achieved without having to treat people like they’re stupid and make enormous block rocks to drive the point home the world is made of blocks.

Part of the BEAUTY of Minecraft is the fact that the terrain IS just made of the same sized blocks. I mean, look at these pictures! Why can’t our Minecraft movie look like this?!?

Instead we have inconsistent blocks making up a terrain that doesn’t exist in the game with a village that includes a windmill (which again is not something in the game). Even on trees the blocky shapes of the leaves vary wildly and they have branches that do not exist in Minecraft.

It’s like they saw Minecraft, saw that it was pixelated and blocky, and then just made concept art based on that rather than try to work within the parameters of what makes Minecraft… Minecraft!

I really wanted to do something with soul sand since the end of the 15th week, and I tried to do something with it for last week's but the idea I got from my dream kinda took over so I gave up on it

This week I finally got to try again and I like it

Altho I originally wanted it to be more of a "soul" theme instead of a swampy theme because I've already built in a swampy theme a couple times before, but as I was building it just kinda came out a whole lot differently than I expected, but I really like it still!

In the survival world I created to finally “complete” the game for once, I found this massive cave that looks like a monster’s jaws or a mini Farlands or something, and I knew I had to put my base here

Acually, these terrain glitches kinda has a liminal feeling to it

Like it's kinda creepy and beautiful at the same time

minecraft terrain generation breaking haunts me in such a strange way. stuff like the farlands or the seeds with constantly repeating features give me a weird guttural feeling akin to the uncanny valley. minecraft’s terrain normally does such a good job at cohesion and semi-realism to where seeing these familiar landscapes contorted in a way that’s very obviously not supposed to happen is so beautiful and jarring to me. i wish i could articulate it better but i feel so strongly about this

The inconsistencies piss me off SO MUCH because good pixel art is supposed to align to a grid. Bad pixel art makes the pixels whatever size they want whenever they want. It’s amateurish looking at best and incompetent at worst.

The Infested Waterworks

This is based off a one chunk biome build I made over a month ago that some people seemed to really like.

It's a much bigger scale than my usual Creative mode builds and I'm really happy with how it turned out, especially the vibe turned out perfectly imo.
