Navy Sailor!Saru and Mechanic!Misaki Started with enemy And Yata finally propose to Saru

Yata gets assigned to work on Fushimi's ship and they instantly hate each other but actually they love each other. So Fushimi's a navy sailor on a ship named Scepter 4 and he probably isn't very thrilled about being in the navy, I could totally see him getting seasick a lot at first and he probably hates the sea air and the smell of fish and everything (also Captain Munakata has to constantly remind him to take some Vitamin C supplements because if anyone on this trip is getting Scurvy it's Fushimi okay). One day the ship is back at the naval base refueling before what's intended to be a fairly long mission, Fushimi's hanging out on the deck hating everything when he's almost run over by a short mechanic in overalls. Yata quickly apologizes and Fushimi clicks his tongue, giving Yata a withering look. Yata gives him a sheepish smile and says he was in a hurry to check the ship out, he's one of the new mechanics who will be coming along on this mission to make certain that ship stays in proper shape while they're out, the top brass don't want this place falling apart and the mission getting ended early. Fushimi supposes Yata must have been hired since he'll be able to fit easily into small spaces, Yata's like 'well, yeah I--' and then he cuts off when he notices Fushimi's smirk and realizes he's being teased. Yata's like without me this place would fall apart you know, Fushimi snorts and says he doubts it and that it's going to be a pain for the rest of the soldiers to have some kid running around the deck. Yata snaps that he's not a kid and Fushimi figures that if Yata's just a mechanic he must not be trusted enough to be an actual soldier, Yata's like I could take you out with this wrench any time you know.

Soon the ship sets sail, they're on a reconnaissance mission to keep an eye on this invading army that's been taking over some of their bases further out in the sea. The ship is fairly large but somehow Yata and Fushimi keep constantly running into each other, like things keep breaking near where Fushimi's room is and Yata keeps having to come fix things to the point that he wonders if Fushimi is doing this on purpose. At some point maybe the ship ends up getting into a brief battle with an enemy warship and while they win part of the ship is heavily damaged. This affected some of the living quarters and so now everyone's crammed together a bit more and Fushimi is no longer allowed to have his own room. Fushimi's adamant that he isn't sharing with anyone and Munakata tells him that regrettably there is no arguing this point, they haven't the space for anyone to be afforded their own room. Fushimi clicks his tongue and states he doesn't want to share a room with some stranger, which is when Yata comes walking in the door with his pack asking who his new roommate is.

The two of them are now stuck living together in close quarters and naturally it's a mess at first but this is also how they start getting closer to each other. Yata begins to notice very quickly that Fushimi gives himself very little downtime and rarely sleeps, he also doesn't seem to be eating as well as Yata figures a guy who might be needed to fight should be. Yata decides to take it upon himself to make sure Fushimi stays in fighting shape and Fushimi doesn't see why Yata's even bothering, like Fushimi's main assignment is handling the ship's computer systems anyway so why does he even need to be in that good of a shape. Yata does end up helping to fix one of the damaged computers too and he gets to see Fushimi at work and he's really amazed, like for a skinny unhealthy nerd Fushimi really is amazing. Then eventually at some point after they've started getting closer there's a major battle, they defeat the enemy but everyone has to abandon ship and they get separated in the chaos, each assuming the other is dead. They don't reunite until they eventually reach port and Yata gets to dramatically spot Fushimi from afar and goes running to him, like don't ever scare me like that again you dumbass.
