American rally driver and motorkhana superstar Ken Block has died in a snowmobile accident, aged 55. Block was well known for his lengthy string of much loved Gymkhana stunt driving videos as well as being the founder of car culture group @TheHoonigans and skate company DC Shoes. The tragic death of the 55-year-old after the crash in Utah was confirmed by his rally team the Hoonigan Racing Division earlier today. #kenblock #hoonigan #gymkhana #dcshoes #ripkenblock https://instagr.am/p/Cm8Ecdxq-e5/

My Project Plan
Key aspects of my project
The challenges women may face in such a male dominated industry
How might they overcome these challenges?
Enlightening people on what is happening
Gender inequality and having less opportunities
There are organisations that are working to allow women to achieve their goals
What am I planning to produce?
Quality content that is informative and engaging
I will achieve this by using the forms of photography and interview style videos
With the use of bold colours and high energy aspects to engage my audience
Medium and Message
Tone: Inspiring and dramatic qualities to engage my audience and create high energy and informative content
Audience: My target audience is young women who are looking to excel in motorsports as well as people who might not believe it to be possible
Angle: I want to approach my topic in a very informative way and I will achieve this by researching people like Susie Wolf and the F1 Academy
Research
F1 Academy is an incredible organisation created last year, directed by Susie Wolff. It is used as a stepping stone to get women into motorsports and introducing them to an international stage. It is an global initiative striving to increase female participation and talent in motorsport, using grassroots activities and programmes to inspire young women to pursue a future in racing.
Women in Motorsports NZ is a New Zealand run advisory group that supports women who compete, volunteer, work in, and are passionate about motorsports in NZ. Their aim to increase female participation in all disciplines and positions in motorsports such as circuit racing, drag racing, speedway, rally, off road, drifting, motorkhana/khana, autocross, hillclimbing, sprints and positions such as competitors, engineers, mechanics, pit crew, media personnel, administrators and officials.
Production Process
The photography part of my plan is to do a photoshoot with some of the women that are a part of the Women in Motorsports NZ group and in this I would like to get photos of them in their race suits and with the cars off and on track.
Then the podcast part of my plan is to run a 15 minute podcast in an interview style talking to one of the drivers in the group about the struggles they have faced as well as the goals they have and what they have and would like to achieve in the sport.

As the excitement builds for WTAC how about we show you how Subaru’s like to party.
The Subaru’s were back for the 2018 SubiNats and this time around it was Sydney Motorsport Park that had a case of the boxer rumbles.
SubiNats never fails at providing an excellent event. The two day schedule was packed with various classes of Super Sprint time attacks, skid pan shoot out, Motorkhana, Show ‘n’ Shine and a little something on the Figure 8 track. Oh and the whole event is free for spectators!
Professional rally driver, Molly Taylor whipped around the Figure 8 track with a few lucky co drivers in Subaru’s brand new BRZ and WRX STI spec.R models.
There was no shortage of Super Sprints with sessions running all day from all classes.
Meanwhile on the other side of Subaru’s skillset, the skidpan was getting a workout.
Here is 14 year old Lachlan ripping around the cones like a pro.
The Willall Racing 25BB was able to turn it up this year with more fine tuning ticked off the list.
Where ever we turned there was something different to see from a early FF-1 to the late rally legend, Possum Bourne’s 2002 bug eye.
MCA were out on track with their VR38DETT powered 86 borrowing a part or two from the famous MCA S13 Hammerhead.
A Show ‘n’ Shine can sometimes be an excuse to put your daily on display but in all honesty there was nothing but quality built Subies there. You could really see the passion owners had for their Subies.

The women compete in an event called Barrel Racing - it’s essentially a motorkhana for horses (horsekahna?). Their horsemanship is very impressive to watch; especially their speed through the turns.

DAY 10
Left Wayne and Megan at Cowell who, at the suggestion of Malcolm T (PM), went to learn once again where the black, red and green wires go. Megan and Wayne meanwhile took the Lucky Bay ferry complete with the Tandem Telstra Trailer to Wallaroo and then into Adelaide. The rest of ‘That Lot” drove to Port Lincoln stopping in at Arno Bay and Tumby Bay.  We settled into the Hilton Motel where Jim and Sandy, Bill and Beth took advantage of the basement suites whilst Gary and Julie had a more conventional room.   Drove over to Coffin Bay where we had lunch – oysters natural and sea food at Café 1802 looking out over The Great Southern Ocean. Travelled back to Port Lincoln for the night and afternoonzees drinks included waiting for the Pink Moon that never eventuated. Dinner that night was interesting with the largest but thinnest schnitzel you have ever seen. About the size of a pair of thongs and just as tough too!
DAY 11 Left Gary and Julie in Port Lincoln to see more of the sights of the area and to visit their old friends while the remainder of That Lot - Bill and Beth, Jim and Sandra headed back to Cowell to buy some oysters for the ferry trip across Spencer Gulf from Lucky Bay to Wallaroo.  Beautiful day and worth the trip.  Then drove down to Glenelg timing our arrival to meet with Adelaide’s peak hour traffic.  Phones flat, GPS recalcitrant, drivers and passengers a little tense. Nice to catch up with the vast majority of MG members and then out to dinner taking in the sunset from Glenelg water front
DAY 12 Jim and Bill set off to help maintain the profitably of Supercheap and Repco and to do some maintenance on their cars. Meantime Beth and Sandra did some retail therapy in nearby Glenelg. Gary and Julie rejoined the party later that day after driving around the top of Spencer’s gulf from Whyalla.
DAY 13, 14, 15, 16 MG National Meeting Thought we should put Wayne out of his misery and let him know that the puddle of oil under the two toned green TF20 in the Telstra tandem trailer that had it tethered, was not so much engine oil but rather the consistency of a little bottle of oil that may or may not reside in a two thousand and twelve Toyota Hilux toolbox.   Needless to say, the look of relief was spectacular.  Megan said she hadn’t seen Wayne look that relieved since the little stick came back negative.  Wayne said, ‘With friends like that who needs drip trays’. Jim maintains that he tried desperately to stop Gary and Megan from performing such a nasty trick but to no avail! Another successful meet for That Lot Wayne was the unsung hero wining everything, showing shrewd judgement by updating his trailer to the infamous Telstra Tandem Trailer which delivered the TF in terrific condition complete with white wall tyres.   Behind our Perpetual Trophy winner stands the Magnificent Megs attending to all the minute detailing.  The additional space in the trailer was just enough to store the innumerable number of trophies he had to take back with him. Telstra will be pleased! Jim once again picked up the gold medal in concourse while Bill was awarded the bronze in concourse, silver in the motorkhana and along with Beth’s invaluable assistance picked up the gold in the observation run. Graham and Bev Hoyle who had to cancel their trip due to a little puff of wind called Debbie, also picked up the “Hard Luck Trophy” The highlight of the meet must surely be the theme evening.  Who will ever forget the Australian Swim Team ……  sorry, the Minions. Surely congratulations are in order to Pat Walker, who, every year endeavours to make us look silly, really excelled herself in 2017. Great night, good friends, good fun! If there was a trophy for best dancers, Queensland would have won that too!  Those Minions know how to move. It should, however, be noted that the competition were real Wallys.
DAY 17 Enjoyed our farewell breakfast at the Glenelg Club and took our separate ways with Wayne and Megan heading to Sydney, Jim, Sandy, Gary and Julie taking off to celebrate a 1st and a 40th birthday party in Melbourne with Gary and Julie’s granddaughter and daughter in law and Jim and Sandras’ 45th wedding anniversary. They traveled by the Coorong and the Great Ocean Road. Bill and Beth took a respite in McLaren Vale and then headed home. All members of That Lot made it home safe and sound ready for the next adventure.
THE NEXT SEGMENT IS BOUGHT TO YOU BY THE LETTER A (and Telstra of course)
Altogether the Adelaide trip was an aphrodisiac of adventure.  Alternate itinerarys were abundant and aspired to be a great antiseptic for apathy. Acquaintances became allies. Associates became Alter egos. More importantly, accomplices became alibis! Our almighty automobiles ( F20 included Jim!!!) aided in the aesthetics of abundant Australian atmospheres. Had we been on aeroplanes we would have accrued ample points to enhance one’s arithmetic. One could not easily ascertain if the MG A had alloys or was an automatic as it ascended areas of inclination with agility, ease and acceleration. Aside from a small acclivity at Ouyan of course!
Alas, we had to acquiesce to the abatement of our Adelaide adventure.  Anguish not, dear friends, for we will adjourn at an alternate time and place elsewhere with analogous automotive objectives to accommodate our itinerant ways. Auf Wiedersehen. Au Revoir. Adios. Adieu. Alleluia! AMEN.

Lowndes. Brabham. Schumacher. Senna. Webber. Johnson. Brock. Recognise a few names?
They all have one thing in common. Actually, they have quite a few things in common, but perhaps the most common link is the training, the practice, they undertook — even when they were recognised names.
Naturally there was talent in the blood and they inspired many to get into motorsport. For some, though, the sheer cost of it is prohibitive.
But now there is an opportunity for people who wish to become a race driver, or already have driving experience and it’s not a huge financial impost.
Talent, though, is still crucial, and here’s a way to find out.
Race Academy International (RAI) is a new operation, staffed by people that, collectively, have more racing experience than many of us could ever comprehend.
Some of the people doing the training have oil and petrol running in their veins.
Matt Shylan, a regular competitor at Sydney Motorsport Park, is a relative late starter, competing in motorkhanas at the age of 12.
Highly respected driver, team manager, and experienced motorsport PR, Gary Mennell brings 30 years of experience to RAI.
Josh Muggleton was a competitor in the Nissan GT Academy International, has raced at Bathurst, and works with the Trackschool driver training group.
Linda Devlin brings an extensive CV to RAI, with endurance racing, historic racing, and numerous class racing wins. Linda started competing at just 8 years of age.
Key to the success of aspiring drivers is the sheer spread of the instructors ability and feedback. It’s a genuine, and real, driver’s academy, where scores are weighed up by the instructors after each applicant is put through a stringent series of tests.
To give aspiring drivers some variety, there are different cars to choose from in each level.
Level one, the Freshman, is just $990 and looks at car setup, feedback to the instructors, reviewing and interpreting data, plus a full half day session at Sydney Motorsport Park which includes two, 15-minute track-work tests. Just to add extra spice, a problem solving session with an engineer during a data review will be conducted.
Level 2 is the Clubman, at $1850, and is perhaps for drivers that have already had some track time and need or want to improve upon that. There will be more intensive scoring and, in addition, a media training session and debrief interview with a motorsport journalist. Finally, flag comprehension for drivers will be covered in a training session.
More experienced drivers can opt for Levels 3 or 4, with the State and Ultra sessions especially tuned for those that have the experience and mental drive to win. All sessions in each level are scored and runners up will be formally recognised and awarded. Costs here are just $2850 and $2200.
Currently based at Sydney Motorsport Park, Race Academy International offers more than a track focused drive day. It provides a genuine opportunity for those that feel they have the magic in their feet and hands to see if it’s for real — or just a pipe dream.
CHECKOUT: Girl power comes to motor sport
CHECKOUT: BRZ will leave ’em gasping
So you wanna be Brock? #cars4starters #RaceAcademyInternational Lowndes. Brabham. Schumacher. Senna. Webber. Johnson. Brock. Recognise a few names? They all have one thing in common.

A little gymkhana at Ebisu Circuit in Japan - literally the most fun you can have. For those who don’t know...”Gymkhana is a type of motorsport, known as Motorkhana in Australia and New Zealand, and Autotesting in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Similar to autocross, the goal of gymkhana is to achieve the fastest time possible; memorizing the course is a significant part of achieving a fast time. The name is loaned from the equestrian discipline of gymkhana. Gymkhana events are time and/or speed events in an automobile. These can feature obstacles such as cones, tires, and barrels. The driver must manoeuver through a predetermined "track" performing many different driving techniques. What separates gymkhana from traditional autocross events is that the gymkhana requires drivers to perform reversals, 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s, and other advanced skills. Drifting is also encouraged where helpful or necessary. Essentially, a gymkhana is any event featuring a starting point, a finish line and some sort of "obstacle" to get through, around, or by, all within a certain time limit.” From https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymkhana_(motorsport) #gymkhana #nissanskylinegtr #suenaga #drifting #ebisucircuit #blacksheepformula #BSF #killalltires #tireslayer @thehoonigans

Sydney Dragway hosted this weekend’s 2017 GTR Festival for a gathering of all things Nissan. A bloodline of Japanese automotive history, few need any introduction to GTR badge. A hero car for myself in the 1990’s, I couldn’t wait to make my way out to the event, (kid in tow!) to see some of the impeccable examples of these rocket ships!
Whilst the impending weather did not look good, it didn’t stop the fans turning out in scores with their prized possessions.  R32’s, R33’s, R34’s and a number of the modern day R35’s adorned the marshalling areas, as well as a select group of classics, C10’s and C110’s. In excess of 200 cars made the journey from all around Australia to be at the event. In addition to having their vehicles on show, many took the opportunity to partake in the motorkhana (autocross) events, as well as browsing through the number of specialist performance and trader exhibitors on hand to share their knowledge, products and services that assist so many GTR owners helping to maintain such a strong and healthy culture for the badge here down-under.
Poor weather delayed the start to the afternoon’s drag racing events, however the majority however braved the elements and waited the weather out to finally see the racing begin. After a series of ultra-competitive heat races, the street GT-R record was broken by JUNII – resetting the ET and MPH record and taking home $1,000 cash as the quicker car at the event and a bonus $1,000 for the record.
All-in-all the 2017 event, organised and overseen by the great people at Motive DVD was a huge success and we cant wait to see what the 2018 event brings!
