Jet
Name: Sarusuke Tachibana
Nickname: Jet
Age: 26
Magic: High Speed
Occupation: Courier for the Council (main verse), Fairy Tail Mage (timeline dependent)
Likes: animals (dogs especially), travel, cooking, sunrise, running, movies and theatre, sports, games
Dislikes: feeling confined, people that are Too Serious, liars, people that are late for anything,
History:
Sarusuke grew up in a small village not far from Magnolia. It was a peaceful time, a little too peaceful for him perhaps, he had to entertain himself and the other kids by playing games (mostly having races around the village) and exploring the area. Trouble came when he was around 9 years old. A rogue group of mages came through the village and took it over as their base of operations. Sarusuke’s parents encouraged him to flee from the danger when the opportunity presented itself.
And so he ran. He ran faster and further than he ever had before, finally reaching Magnolia and alerting law enforcement of the danger in the village. By the time help arrived, his parents and others of the small community had already suffered greatly and passed away as a result.
Unable to remain in the village after the destruction and loss of his family, he was relegated to the Magnolia Orphanage. He struggled to cope with what had happened, continually thinking that if he had just been fast enough, he might’ve returned with help in time to save people.
A little while later, another young boy was brought into the Orphanage. Droy. He had also lost his family to the roaming bandit mages. The two boys bonded over their pain and shared experiences.
They eventually learnt that one of Magnolia’s magic guilds, Fairy Tail, had ended up taking down the bandits, and that some kids from the Orphanage had joined Fairy Tail recently. They became fascinated with Fairy Tail, with magic, and with joining the guild.
Finding himself capable of learning magic, Sarusuke focused his efforts on ‘High Speed’ and after he became proficient with it, he began to go by the name ‘Jet’ due to the swiftness of his movements. It was his hope that, with such a fast magic, he would never again be too late to save someone.
Droy, coming from a humble line of mages, already had a budding ability with magic. He began to work on it in earnest, alongside Jet, and developed skill with Plant magic. Once they were confident enough, they marched to Fairy Tail and asked to be accepted as members. They couldn’t have been more thrilled once they officially joined.
There were several other kids already in the guild, and they got along well with them – even if they mostly kept to themselves. Jet and Droy would go on jobs individually for the most part, as despite the fact they were good friends, they couldn’t seem to coordinate well while on quests. It wasn’t until a couple of years in the guild passed, that they decided to try making an official team. Soon enough, Shadow Gear was formed and would go on to be a ‘backbone’ team of Fairy Tail.
Personality:
As a child, his parents had always fondly called him a ‘born entertainer’ as he loved to put on shows, tell stories/jokes, and play games. He was the eldest of the children in the village, and became a leader of sorts, often organising games for them all and looking out for them. The other kids looked up to him and eagerly followed him around due to his fun ideas, good attitude, and general charisma.
Losing his family and those he grew up around took a toll on his bright personality for quite some time. Meeting Droy, however, helped to reignite his spark of life and of helping others. As he came to develop magic, Jet grew in confidence in himself and once again became quite the charismatic sort.
As a member of Fairy Tail, he got along with most other members well, his inclination towards amiability helping in that aspect. He is a friendly sort, always ready to both tell stories and listen to them. He is social and makes effort to remember details about others, however, he can hold grudges for things other people forget about.
He is honest and optimistic, sometimes to a fault, and is often the one to pull Levy or Droy out of blue moods. As a passionate person, he can get lively in debates (he enjoys the philosophical ones particularly), and also has a tendency towards hot-headed behaviour at times.
Sports and exercise also bring out his passionate nature, he loves training physically and playing games. While he does train to better his High Speed magic and abilities with said magic, he also enjoys testing himself without his magic to push his limits and improve himself overall.
Part of the draw of being a mage was the idea of going off to see other places, having the freedom to explore the world. He loves travelling, loves experiencing new things and sharing those experiences with others.
He is very protective of Levy and Droy, and he has not forgotten what it felt like to be so brutally defeated and unable to help them. He went through a phase, following the attack from Phantom Lord, of pushing himself too hard and of being overly protective of his teammates.
(Romantic) Feelings for Levy:
Upon first meeting, he didn’t think much of her. He was too busy settling into the guild and she was quiet. It was only after deciding to make a team with Droy and a girl, that he even considered her, and it was only after Levy demonstrated her skills that he started to really admire her. Seeing her grow into such a capable leader, having trust in her abilities himself, he began to develop strong feelings for her that (even in his youth) he knew was honest love.
He never wanted to ruin their friendship or teamwork, having too much respect for each of them for that, and so it was only through a moment of great foolish courage (caught in the moment) that he asked Levy out. She didn’t think he was serious and she rejected him swiftly. It hurt at the time, however he was glad for it in the end, believing it had been a mistake for him to even try.
He made an effort to move on from his feelings for her, and although they would never completely fade, he was more at ease and able to develop (romantic) interests in others over the years.
Levy is someone he holds very dear in his heart. He respects her, supports her, and has the utmost faith in her, always willing to bolster her when she doubts herself. And despite the way she still makes his chest ache at times, he doesn’t consider himself to still be in love with her.
Magic:
High Speed is aptly a magic that can dramatically the user’s speed. Through its use, Jet can use blindingly fast attacks and travel vast distances. In order to make best use of his speed, he has trained in agility and hand-to-hand combat, allowing him to deliver a flurry of hard-hitting punches/kicks and avoid those from others. He has only been bested in speed once, by Racer/Sawyer, many years ago when their paths happened to cross.
X784 – X791
He and Droy were beyond devastated upon learning that Levy and the others on Tenrou were gone. For a while, everything just seemed to stop. The guild was quiet. Eventually, however, they had to move on, had to try to continue to live. They took jobs together, using strategies Levy had come up with and worked with them on. They were able to help keep the guild afloat for a little while, but the bills and troubles began to pile up, even with the acting guildmaster, Macao, doing his best.
At times, he considered leaving the guild, abandoning the sinking ship, but the thought was barely formed before it was dismissed. Some people did leave the guild, but while there were still members remaining, he couldn’t bring himself to leave too.
Those years were a blur, a drab patch in his life where it was a struggle to feel like he was really living at all. It wasn’t entirely without life, however, as he did meet a woman while out on a job and eventually enter into a relationship with her. His time with her did him some good, but in the end he (subconsciously) pushed her away and she broke up with him after nearly 2 years.
The return of those who had been on Tenrou was miraculous to say the least. Suddenly, there was colour in the world again and the gears of the universe begun to churn once more.
Fairy Tail’s Disbandment
The guild had endured many things over the years, and yet it was gone in an instant. After being one of the ones to steadfastly maintain Fairy Tail while the ‘core’ group was gone for 7 years, it was difficult, to say the least, for him to grasp the era was over. Having Levy with him and Droy during this time was some comfort. They stuck together for a while, living together as a group and doing small jobs where they could.
Eventually, they talked about their options. They didn’t have it in them to join a new guild, instead deciding to try something different. Levy applied for a job at the council and was accepted, and she encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Unfortunately, it didn’t work out for Jet and Droy and they struggled to support themselves. While keeping in contact with Levy, they did their best to convince her they were fine and she didn’t need to worry. Jet didn’t want to be a burden on her.
Luckily, through her work with the council, Levy heard of a few job openings for which they would be perfect for. Jet became a specialised courier for the Council, while Droy went to work for their ‘Outdoor Maintenance’ Department.
Fairy Tail’s Revival
He, along with Droy and Levy, returned for the reinstatement of Fairy Tail, glad for the chance to catch up with everyone. They were all tempted to rejoin, however, decided not to in the end as they felt their time as guild mages had passed and they enjoyed their current jobs. Jet, and Droy, did decide to spend some time with the revived Fairy Tail and consequently became involved with the war and fought alongside everyone.
His Job
His High Speed magic made him the perfect choice of messenger between the many buildings and areas of the Council. He was entrusted with carrying letters and items that were too important or urgent to go through ordinary channels. It’s a job that he thoroughly enjoys, particularly when it requires him to travel great distances to deliver things. He is skilled enough to not be intercepted very often, and has come out on top when such instances have occurred. His reliability and trustworthiness has made him a valued asset of the Council, something that he is proud of himself for. It’s also a job that pays very well and offers stability, so he is more than happy with it.
