The official Barbie YouTube channel is not a place I spend a great deal of my time, but it is an interesting place to delve into from time to time - specifically because, true to the name of the blog even if not most of my content, there's a tremendous amount of lore references in some of the "Barbie vlog" content.
For example: I thought I'd peruse for any videos which might feel seasonably appropriate, and found this one: "Fun & Easy Holiday DIY with MY MOM", which features Barbie and her mother making a DIY Christmas gift for Barbie's maternal grandmother in Wisconsin.

Neither Barbie's mother nor grandmother have ever appeared as a doll in the doll line, but Barbie's grandmother being from Wisconsin is consistent with Barbie's lore in the doll line - Barbie herself was from Wisconsin before she relocated to California.


You can see in the video that they show a photograph of the Roberts family - which is consistent with the siblings currently in the doll line and in external media like Dreamhouse Adventures.
By this I mean it excludes members of the family who have previously appeared in the doll line and no longer do - characters like Todd and Krissy.
I'm not saying there's something sinister there, but has anyone looked into these missing children?
Another standout from the Barbie Vlogs that touches on holiday themes is the video "Giving With Your Heart".

The message is charming and simple: a gift does not have to be expensive; it mostly needs to be meaningful. She demonstrates this lesson by showing gifts she's given her siblings which didn't cost anything, but meant a lot.
This is a lesson I can totally understand being imparted to children who, in all likelihood, don't have any disposable income with which to shower their loved ones with gifts... but in the context of the multi-careered Barbie, does make me raise an eyebrow.
Especially because it caps off with Barbie giving a "brand new video game" for a charity toy drive: does Barbie know the gift will go to someone who even has a video game system with which to play the video game? I can see that being a wildly depressing gift to receive from a charity, actually!

"Oz will succeed Chiquita Brooks-LaSure, the current administrator of CMS, to lead programs including Medicare, the federal health insurance program for people aged 65 or older, and disabled people, and Medicaid, the state-based health insurance program for lower-income people, which is jointly funded by states and the federal government. The two programs provide health insurance for more than 140 million Americans.
Also in the CMS fold are the Children’s Health Insurance Program (Chip) and the Health Insurance Marketplace, which was created by the Affordable Care Act under Barack Obama in 2010.
Trump’s economic advisers and congressional Republicans are currently discussing possible cuts to Medicaid, food stamps, and other government welfare programs to cover the costs of extending the president-elect’s multi-trillion-dollar 2017 tax cut."
Dr Oz, best known for his daytime talkshow, leaned heavily into Trumpism during his failed 2022 run for US Senate. Donald Trump has chosen Mehmet Oz, best known for starring in his eponymous daytime talkshow for more than a decade and leaning heavily into Trumpism during his failed 2022 run for a Pennsylvania Senate seat, to lead the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The cardiothoracic surgeon, who faced immense backlash from the medical and scientific communities for pushing misinformation at the height of the Covid-19 pandemic, will oversee the agency that operates on a $2.6 trillion dollar annual budget and provides healthcare to more than 100 million people.
“I am honored to be nominated by [Donald Trump] to lead CMS,” Oz posted on X on Tuesday. “I look forward to serving my country to Make America Healthy Again under the leadership of HHS Secretary [Robert F Kennedy Jr].”
In the announcement of Oz’s selection, Trump said that Oz would “make America healthy again” and described him as “an eminent Physician, Heart Surgeon, Inventor, and World-Class Communicator, who has been at the forefront of healthy living for decades”.
Oz has been on US television screens for nearly 20 years, first appearing on the Oprah Winfrey show in 2004. In that time, he has talked to his audience about losing weight with fad diets and what it takes to have healthy poops and, toward the end of his run, touting hydroxychloroquine as a potential remedy for Covid-19.
Here’s what to know about the New York University professor and surgeon turned television show host, and now Trump appointee.
Mehmet Oz, 64, is a Turkish American Ohio native best known for The Dr Oz Show, which ran from 2009 to 2022. His father was a surgeon in Turkey, and after Oz graduated high school in Delaware, he was admitted into Harvard. He also served in the Turkish military in order to maintain dual citizenship, the Associated Press reports.
Before entering US homes via daytime TV, he had more than 20 years of experience as a cardiothoracic surgeon at Presbyterian-Columbia medical center in New York. He was also a professor at Columbia University’s medical school.
His bona fides at the prestigious institutions earned him quick credibility with viewers, and his popularity garnered him nine Daytime Emmy awards for outstanding informative talkshow and host.
Though his show ended in 2022, Oz maintains a YouTube channel filled with old episodes of his shows where he interviews guests such as Penn Jillette about his weight loss and Robert F Kennedy Jr about his 2014 book about the presence of mercury in vaccines. He also has an Instagram account that boasts more than a million followers, where Oz shares photos of his family and sells products from iHerb, an online health and wellness brand for which he is global adviser.
Oz’s questionable medical advice and time in politics. Throughout his TV tenure, Oz dabbled in the hallmarks of weight loss culture like detoxes, cleanses and diets that promised rapid weight loss. He also faced a grilling by senators in 2014 over claims he made and alleged false advertising on supplements he promoted on his show. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, Oz regurgitated misinformation that came from the fringes of the right and medical communities.
These comments continued when he threw his hat into the race to represent Pennsylvania in the US Senate in 2022 against John Fetterman. At the time, the Guardian wrote:
“Oz was dogged by questions about his actual connection to the state during the campaign. Oz lived in New Jersey for decades before he moved to Pennsylvania in October 2020, into a home owned by his wife’s family. He announced his bid to be the state’s US senator just months later.”
Following Fetterman’s stroke, during which he said he “almost died”, the Oz campaign launched unsavory attacks against him, with one Oz aide, Rachel Tripp, claiming Fetterman might not have had a stroke if he “had ever eaten a vegetable in his life”.
Oz ultimately lost to Fetterman, who garnered 51% of the vote compared with Oz’s 46%."

Stupidest, pettiest complaint in the world incoming. I am being an absolute bitch about A Soulsborne YouTube Channel below the cut.
I often watch walk-throughs and let's plays of souls games. Not really watch, actually, but more "put them on in the background while I'm doing household chores." I prefer long, multi-episode series aimed at newcomers, because those tend to actually play through the whole game at a moderate pace and talk about mechanics. Don't get me wrong, speedruns and challenge runs are great, but they scratch a different itch.
So anyway. Been watching this quite decent "Bloodborne On EZ Mode" guide. The youtuber doing it is charming and their jokes are good. And overall the guide (which I will Not be linking) is really good! It's easy to follow, it's a good build that doesn't require god-like reflexes or parry skill, and the videos are well-presented.
But this youtuber. frustrates me.
They like to reassure their viewers that they know what they're talking about because they've "been here since the Dark Souls days." And it's not super frequent or annoying and I'm definitely noticing it more because I'm binging the videos instead of watching them twice a week like they were published. They're not really arrogant, is what I'm saying.
But like. Well. Perhaps they have "been here" playing soulsborne since DS3, which is technically still The Dark Souls Days. But I really, sincerely doubt they've been playing since DS1 and I feel like that's definitely what they're trying to imply. And maybe that's a me problem? Maybe most casual viewers aren't assuming "since the Dark Souls Days" means since DS1? But that's what I'm hearing when I hear "since the Dark Souls Days" (as opposed to "since DS3" or whatever) and I'm UNREASONABLY assmad about this "stolen valor."
And why do I think they HAVEN'T been playing since DS1 was current, you ask? Well. There are several tells, actually. In the first video of their BB guide, they introduce the lamps with "So this is like your grace, or your bonfire." Which is fine on its own, not really an indicator of anything. Elden Ring is the most recent game and probably at least a few of their audience members are coming from there. It's not weird to use the current-gen terminology when explaining the familiar mechanics.
But then they consistently call blood echos "runes" (not souls) (despite that "rune" is also a term used in BB for a completely different thing). Which, again, okay. Recency bias. Maybe ER is their favorite FromSoft title, or maybe they're just used to talking about ER because they started their channel in 2023 and ER was the new hotness, or maybe they're just trying to cater to the segment of their audience that played ER and is now trying to get into the rest of FromSoft's catalog. Still not enough to make me question their Dark Souls Veteran status.
BUT THEN. THEY ADVISE THEIR AUDIENCE TO ALWAYS SELL THEIR COLDBLOOD DEW AT THE BATH MERCHANT INSTEAD OF POPPING THEM BECAUSE IT'S FASTER
This is terrible advice! IIRC you get 1/10 the amount of echos for selling it as you do using it as an item. You should never do this! And it's not the kind of mistake DS vets tend to make, because Bloodborne isn't unusual in selling your hard currency being a rip-off! Elden Ring and DS3 are actually the outliers here!
So I go down to the comments to see if anyone mentioned it. Sure enough, somebody said, "I heard on Reddit that you should always use your coldblood instead of selling it because you get more that way. Is that not true?"
AND THE YOUTUBER REPLIED: "Nope! That's a myth! They're worth exactly the same amount whether you sell them or pop them. It's always been this way since DS1, I don't know why people keep spreading that misinformation."
BZZT BZZT WRONG FUCKING ANSWER BUDDY
That shit started in DS3!! In Demon's Souls there simply was no way to sell anything, period. In DS1 all you could do was feed shit to Frampt in exchange for a reward. And it was better to feed him your lowest value souls because he'd give you more than they were worth if you used them, but you NEVER wanted to give him your high value souls because he'd only give you a fraction of their value. And then in DS2 you could only sell things to one NPC and it was never worth it to sell your souls because he only paid you 1/10 of their value (post patch, anyway).
AND IN BLOODBORNE, WHICH CAME OUT BEFORE DS3, SELLING YOUR COLDBLOOD DEW WAS STILL NOT WORTH IT. AND EVERY VETERAN FAN WAS CONSTANTLY TELLING THE NEWBIES WHO HADN'T PLAYED DARK SOULS ABOUT THIS.
The trick of selling your souls as a timesave started in DS3 and it took a fucking while to catch on because like I said all the veterans EXPECTED selling souls to be a rip-off!!
So anyway. I am unreasonably annoyed with this youtuber for misrepresenting themselves as An Oldschool Dark Souls Veteran when I am preeeeetty fucking sure they actually came in on either Elden Ring or DS3. (And frankly, I suspect it was Elden Ring. Either that or they bounced off DS3 and only revisited it after ER. It's more than just the terminology, a lot of the way they think about encounters seems very Elden Ring-y to me. Although I may simply be insane.)
The stupidest part is that the "valor" isn't even all that stolen. They have videos of themself showing tips and strats for all three DS games as well as ER and BB. The BB guide they made is quite good! They've also done a beginner guide to ER and that was really good too! They're a competent player and I fully believe they've cleared all the soulsborne games more than a couple of times.
And like, if they DID start with DS3, that's still like 9 years of Playing Souls Games. That's plenty of experience to call yourself a veteran fan! And if they started with DS3 they aren't misrepresenting themselves - that was indeed still The Dark Souls Days, though it was the tail end. There is no universe in which my irritation with them is remotely reasonable lmao
I guess what it really comes down to is I'm annoyed with someone presenting themselves as a super knowledgeable veteran and then making what I consider a newcomer's mistake? Idk.
