Web Design in Melbourne: Guide to Build an Educational Website
Designing an educational website for a resource portal, a school, university, or an online learning platform requires strong knowledge. If your brain jumps from left to right thinking about quality designs, you can safely believe that there are many other administrators who are on the same page.
Every educational institute or online learning platform is unique in what they bring to the learners. Whether it is more comprehensive resources, personalized attention, or guaranteed results, you would surely want to understand the web design goals that make a learning experience easy and engaging. But how to achieve them all?
Tumblr media
In this blog, we will explore 5 essential web design features that you must consider in a professional web design in Melbourne for a functional educational website.
5 Must-Have Web Design Features for an Educational Website
Here are five most crucial web design qualities and features that make an educational portal, institution, or, an e-learning platform engaging.
1. User-Friendly Menus
When planning a website menu layout with a website designer, focus on creating simple and easy to find menus. Focus on keeping only the main links like Courses, Admissions, About Us, Gallery, or Contact Us page. When choosing a layout, hamburger-style menus and sticky navigation bars can make them easily appear on smaller screens.
User experience is the crucial factor. It is important to choose one of the best professionals for web design in Melbourne who ensure that the website menu colors, fonts, alignment, and style helps users to find the information.
2. Responsive Design for Mobiles and Tablets
Teachers and students use their tablets or mobile devices to browse educational websites or e-learning platforms. If they find it difficult to read the content on your website or explore the website without zooming in, they will move on.
For this reason, it is crucial to use responsive frameworks when designing a website. Commonly used web design frameworks like Bootstrap and Foundation allow a website to automatically adjust to the smaller screens. These feature one-column grids, in-built sliders, buttons, forms, and carousels, and media queries that perform well on different devices.
If you are not aware of the technicalities, it is good to consider a professional for SEO in Geelong for high-performing frameworks.
3. Integrate Multiple Media
Next, multimedia tools are another effective and popular way to make education fun and engaging for both educators and learners. As long as your students and educators get access to different audio and visual learning modules, your website performs well.
Video lectures, podcasts, quizzes, or other interactive forums are highly becoming resourceful additions on an educational website. Keeping aside the traditional listen-only concepts, these tools allow learners to interact through quizzes, ask questions, use clickable annotations, or jump to specific sections on podcasts.
You can even include downloadable PDFs and worksheets, or reading lists to let users learn the study materials at their own pace. Remember, integrating media can reduce website speed, so an SEO expert in Geelong is helpful in optimizing the speed.
4. Use Learning Management Platform Within the Website
An educational website must have a highly-organized and user-centric learning management tool. It allows learners to find the different study materials, submit assignments, and view grades at one place. And it also enables teachers and providers to track student progress, answer their questions, and interact about upcoming events.
While choosing a Learning Management System (LMS), keep in mind the existing website structure. A sign of a good LMS platform is its easy integration, drag-and-drop dashboard, customization features, and technical support features. Web design companies also help you to choose the best platform that stands true and right to these qualities.
5. Secure Registration and Enrollments
Lastly, safe and easy-to-use registration and enrollment forms complete an educational website. If you are just starting, handle this task to an expert SEO in Geelong.
If you are creating a website for school or colleges, structure the registration form with essential and autofill options. Clear instructions and examples in the input fields can make a big difference. Including error validation and progress indicators will allow learners to correct their mistakes and know how far they have come.
In addition, if you are creating an online learning platform, using secure payment gateways with confirmation messages makes the site safe.
Final Words
We hope you found this blog useful. Designing an educational web design in Melbourne or Geelong takes time as you are considering user experience, user interface, and website security as a goal to fulfill both learners and educators needs.
Whether you are a chancellor, president, or an e-learning educator designing a website, it is wise to invest in a professional company. They have a team of best website designers in both locations to plan, guide, and initiate the best process.

Eurovision Fact #49:
Tumblr media
Craig Christie and Andrew Patterson’s Eurobeat: Almost Eurovision was a musical first performed in 2004 at the Melbourne Comedy Festival that parodied the distinct presenting style of the 2000s, and the over-the-top nature of the Eurovision Song Contest.
The mock Eurovision Song Contest was hosted by Bronya, a multimedia star in Bosnia and Herzegovina (the musical's host nation) and Sergei Puukolisto.
During the show's intermission, audience members would wave the flag of the country they wanted to see win, changing the course of the production.
The 2006 revival of the interactive musical directed by Glynn Nicholas was 2 hours and 40 minutes in length.
Under the direction of Nicholas, the show successfully ran for many years and even saw a three month residency in London's West End.

In 1962, Sue Ford was one of only two women enrolled in the photography course at Melbourne’s RMIT. It was there the 19-year-old, intent on pursuing a career in the male-dominated medium, would have her first taste of the social and professional challenges that would ultimately shape her career. After being sexually harassed by a male lecturer, the promising student was forced to cut short her studies, quitting RMIT to set up a photographic studio in Melbourne.
“Sue was one of the first female photographers to establish herself as an independent practitioner and from the beginning she saw herself as a photographic artist, not a commercial photographer”  says Maggie Finch, curator at the National Gallery of Victoria. “She was quite defiant about that.”
Ford, who died in 2009, went on to become one of the country’s best-known photographers, recognised for her self-portraiture and her black and white work. From next week, the National Gallery of Victoria will hold the first major retrospective of Ford’s work, in an exhibition spanning her decades-long career and featuring some 200 photographs as well as film and video installation.
“In a way I think her feminist working method developed almost out of necessity,” says Finch of Ford, who in 1974 was the first photographer to hold a solo exhibition at the NGV. “Her early works were very collaborative. There is a real sense of camaraderie and the consensual nature of the images. The way Sue worked created such a different dynamic to the more formal work of the male photographers who were often working with professional models to a very particular aesthetic.”
After leaving RMIT, Ford opened a studio in Little Collins Street with friend Annette Stephens. The studio was above a cafe whose owner, according to Finch, was convinced it was a front for a brothel. Ford grew tired of the landlord’s tirade each time a man walked up the stairwell and so she began photographing her female friends, before deciding to turn the camera on herself. The collaborative approach that evolved in the early years of her practice became a hallmark. As more women came on to the photography scene Ford shared her knowledge and experiences.
“Sue was incredibly generous and very inclusive,” says close friend Bonita Ely, associate professor of fine arts at Sydney’s University of NSW. But it was experimentation that really defined Ford’s philosophy and she embraced new technologies in order to push creative boundaries. Her camera, she claimed, was an extension of her being, always within reach. Another of Ford’s inner circle, Helen Ennis, professor at Australian National University’s school of art, says Ford is crucial to the history of Australian photography. “Sue is one of those figures who really began to put art photography on the map,” she says.
In the early 1970s Ford received a scholarship to study at the Victorian College of the Arts where she learned to focus less on technique and more on the image itself. Photographer Ruth Maddison says it is this shift in Ford’s work that influenced her own aesthetic. “Her approach was ‘I don’t care if the print is scratched or if there’s dust on it, it is all about the image’. She was validating the fact that sometimes you love the image, but the print might not be fab ... that allowed me to relax”.
Ford was one of the earliest photographers to embrace multimedia, using darkroom techniques to create films such as 1972 short Woman in a House, which features multiple negatives, multiple exposures and mirroring to tell the story of a young married woman who is desperately trying to escape her situation. It was another example of self-reflection. At the time Ford was recently separated. Political and environmental issues also influenced her choices through works such as 1969’s Bush Performance Montage, featuring a male friend wearing a gas mask, and anti-war piece Vietnam the Six O’Clock News. But it is Ford’s 1974 Time Series — a work featuring two black and white portraits of the same person taken 10 years apart, hung side by side — that is considered one of the groundbreaking moments in Australian photography. In her artist’s statement for the Time Series Ford said, “In Time Series I tried to use the camera as objectively as possible … the camera showed me with absolute clarity, something I could only just perceive with my naked eye.”
Melbourne photographer Ponch Hawkes, among others, cites it as a source of inspiration.“I think Sue introduced the notion of ‘the series’ in Australia. You can see it in American photography, but no one was doing that here … that really changed things. Suddenly the subject matter of our own lives was appropriate for photography.” Ford worked until her death, aged 66.
“She never stopped thinking about her practice,” says Ennis. “She was a creative, open and inspiring person. I feel very lucky to have known her.”

1, 16 and 23 for the writer meme thing!
1.Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
Current projects. Ok, so I’m currently drafting my 5x fest fic, but that’s anon so I can’t talk about it much.
The big one that I’m working on is my canon compliant Hiatus series, of which ARIF is the first (I know it’s set in 2015, but it works as a set up for the series that I’m planning, so I’ve included it). I’ve outlined 2016 - 2019ish, and (today actually) am starting the draft of the 2016 fic. I love canon compliant fic and I really wish there was more so I’m biting the bullet and getting on with it - get ready for more emotional hurt/comfort angst fests!
Finally, I’m outlining/structuring a Melbourne expats Pub AU, set in the inner north of melbourne around the  garage punk/queer edm scene and the pubs that have a footy competition - this is my baby because it’s essentially a love letter to my favourite place in the world and my local music scene, so I have all the world-building done, I just have to work out a vague narrative outline before I dive in. I’m always tinkering with it but it’s not quite reading to come out of incubation yet.
16. Tried anything new with your writing lately? (style, POV, genre, fandom?)
@sashinalash and I have been talking a lot about craft, and thinking about free form writing and the way fic (and especially canon fic, or short fic) can free you from linear narrative story telling and allow you to experiment with less traditional writing styles.
I’m also teaching and reading a lot of free form poetry at the moment, so in my trick or treat fic that’s coming up I had a lot of fun experimenting with literary devices, playing with the balance of narrative/story telling and poetic language. I learnt a lot and I think it will be something I consider using (though with less intensity) in my other fics.
I think it’s important to find a balance between technical, poetic writing, and making sure the story is actually told and has space to breathe and hit the emotional beats you want, in a way that takes the reader along with you intead of alienating them from the story (and rather than just showing off to the reader how creative you are lol - all my fics I wrote when I was younger have trouble with this). So it’s something I’m thinking about and refining.
23. What’s the story idea you’ve had in your head for the longest?
When I first joined the fandom in 2015, I decided I was going to write a Broadchurch AU (this in a hectic academic year where I barely had time to breathe, and was also making the podcast and spending all my nonexistent spare time being a CSI larrie investigating the bears lol). @conscious--ramblings and I ended up collaborating on the idea, and outlined it, structured the mystery, planned the clues, everything, but both our lives then got hectic and we both drifted from the fandom so we never got around to writing it. I still have the docs, and maybe one day (with Sheena’s blessing, of course) I will come back to it. We also had a multimedia & epistolary pride/billy elliot/1980s AU planned that I still dream about - but I don’t think I can do that one without her, there was too much of both of us in it and it wouldn’t feel right.
Writer’s ask meme - ask me a question

Entry 1: About Me page including: a brief on your background, sport interests, work experiences and career ambitions. In addition: a reflection on your study performance to date and areas to improve; expectations and aspirations for this subject and your internship.
My name is Jake Marsiglio. I’m a 20-year-old sporting fanatic who hails from the outer southeastern Melbourne suburb of Berwick. This fanatical love of sport has been with me and grown alongside me all throughout my journey in life. The patriotic representation by Australia and its seemingly defiant underdog persona stimulated my passion for sport through sports such as Cricket and Tennis as well as events like the Olympics and Commonwealth Games. Likewise, the passion erupted through the sport with the biggest strangle hold on Victoria being Australian Rules with my love of the Essendon Football Club supporting some of the most key memories I own. As I’ve grown as a sporting fanatic, I’ve stretched my wings into international sporting markets. This includes the NBA, the Premier League and Serie A, as well as a more recent discovery and deep interest in Formula One.
In terms of work, I’ve been fortunate enough to hold a casual customer sales assistant position with Target since April of 2017 at their Fountain Gate store. Through this paid position of work, I’ve been able to grow as a person and gain more confidence in both myself and my own skillset. This opportunity that I’ve endeavored has given me more of a realisation of how a business/industry works, as well as how vital every stakeholder is in the company.
In addition to this I’ve more recently taken a multimedia intern position at Cricket Victoria for their Premier Cricket competition. Starting in January of this year I’ve currently been helping with their social media pages through developing informational graphics on software programs such as Adobe Photoshop and After Effects. In continuation of this internship, I will also be helping out in Premier Cricket’s endeavours to broadcast their weekly show on Kayo Sports where I will be making a range of graphics revolving around results and statistics in both the Men and Women’s competitions.
As each semester has gone on in my time looking to complete my Bachelor of Sports Media, I’ve seen a gradual improvement in my results. Whilst this is good news for myself there are still certain things I aim to tweak and improve as my third and final year of the course commences. This specifically revolves around my all-star ability to procrastinate which on numerous occasions has left me submitting various assessments in mere seconds before the due date expires. However, I have faith that with this third and final year looking to be entirely on campus this can naturally aid this issue.

Just a little about Western Australia. In area it takes up just about a third of Australia, in other words it is the whole of the left hand side of the continent. In population it accounts for about 10% of the total number of people in Australia, so by density it is the 2nd least populated state and every person could have 1 square kilometre each! So much space! No nosey neighbours. This compares to having to share your kilometre with 178 other people in the Australian Capital Territory, or 271 in the UK.
Albany is a surprisingly nice little place. It has a real colonial feel to it. Many of the building on the harbour front date back to Victorian days and the whole promenade was re-worked to celebrate the jubilee of Queen Victoria, with some very English features such as a band-stand and gardens. We started our exploration with a stroll down to the harbour and in particular to the Sunday Market where we purchased some locally grown apricots/ nectarines and plums. The growers were running the stall, which was like a farmer's market, and were saying one of their greatest fears were forest fires which of course would put them out of business overnight. So, after consuming a locally produced peppered steak pie, we took off for the tourist info bureau to find out what we should do.
Founded on 26th December 1826, Albany was a military outpost for NSW and also a way of preventing the French from gaining territory in Australia. Much later Albany played an important role in the 2 world wars. In WW1, it was the hub from which all the ANZAC troops left for Europe in convoys. The first convoy that left Albany on 1st November 1914 was made up of 3 Divisions of young Australians and New Zealanders in a total of 38 ships with 30,000 men, horses and equipment. Most bound for Gallipoli and Egypt. They would have had no idea what would await them at the other end of their journey. Albany hosts the National ANZAC Centre, so we paid our $24 and had a look. The troop departures were centred on The Princess Royal Fortress which was first set up in 1893 as the first federal defence of Australia. Many of the original buildings still exist there and the gun emplacements with underground ammunition stores can still be seen. Troops were gathered from NZ and Melbourne and shipped down to Albany before they were transferred to the many ships that made up the Convoy. Their story is told in a new multimedia exhibition building on site. We were each given a card relating to a particular soldier who left on that convoy. By placing this card on sensors around the exhibition, we were able to track the events 'your soldier' encountered during the years on WW1. Sadly, some died. Mine survived the war but seemed to have the unhappy experience of being shot at. No sooner than he was patched up, and fit again, than he found himself back at the front and shot again.
Any ANZAC exhibition will ultimately be depressing. Gallipoli was not a glorious success and it is still a bitter pill for the Australians to swallow. ANZAC day is 25th April and it is a day which is treated here with more solemnity perhaps than Armistice Day. And they get a day off!
From there, much depressed, we retired back to our apartment for a cup of tea. Foolishly, we had planned a bbq, so it was overcast, however, just as the patties began sizzling, the sun broke through.
ps Just as I was finishing this tome, 2 ring tailed possums walked along the top of our fence.
