I need 🎂 for all
🎂 BIRTHDAY CAKE - when is their birthday? do they like celebrating it?
Ask game
Alright, my dude... I have upwards of 78 OCs total, so I'm just gonna go with the ones I already have written stuff for, and a few that I plan to post fics with in the next 2 months or so.
My Hero Academia OCs
Maeko - November 22nd. She doesn't mind celebrating it, she just won't go out of her way to throw a party for herself or anything.
Shizune - September 28th. She doesn't remember the last time anyone put in the effort to actually have something to remind them of her birthday, and she usually feels a little uncomfortable if someone tries to do more than a small gift or a celebratory outing.
Kazuki - July 4th. Little mans loves celebrating his birthday. Unfortunately, in his younger years, it would have been too dangerous for him to have a birthday party, but as soon as it's safe enough for him to get out of protective custody, he finds out he's allowed to throw huge, and extravagant birthday parties, and even years later in his life, he's still throwing parties any chance he can.
Shiho - January 7th. Just give her a little gift and wish her a happy birthday, just don't throw her a party. She once hid from a surprise party she knew her cousin was throwing for her because she didn't want to deal with it.
Star Wars OCs
Because the Star Wars Galactic calendar is not something I wanna deal with, you're getting the season they were born in on their planet of origin. Though, all of these are Togrutas from Shili, so not a whole lot of variation.
Ceka Lo - Her birthday is in the early winter on Shili, and it's a miracle she and her sister survived, also with being a premature birth. Ceka doesn't celebrate her birthday, largely because it's so rare that someone in the Empire cares enough to even wish her a happy birthday. But her friend Kallus from the ISB training days, will usually send a small gift whenever he can. It's usually a day or two late because galactic shipping isn't always reliable. Thrawn knows the Shilian calendar, and he may spare her some responsibilities, or even offer a gift of his own.
Juna Lo - She's Ceka's twin sister, so they were born at the same time. She likes to throw a small brunch with her friends, and hopefully get Ceka there too of she can get any time off.
Niiva Lo - Ceka and Juna's eldest sister was born in the middle of the summer on Shili. She doesn't really mind when people celebrate her birthday, but as the leader of the Lo tribe, her birthday sort of became a tribe-wide holiday, and she let's people party as they wish. She'll supply the event, and let anybody join the celebration. Niiva likes to see her people happy above all else.
Cirra Lo - Middle of the autumn at the height of hunting season. Everybody seems to understand that they don't really like to celebrate their birthday. Not at all. To them, because they're a member of the royal Lo family, they don't like the idea of their birthday being widely celebrated by the whole tribe. So they don't really celebrate it themself.
Taaka Lo - Dude's lucky if he even remembers he was born in the early spring. He just doesn't care. If someone wants to remind him that it's his birthday, then he's happy about it, he's not gonna do anything with that information tho.
Onahgi Lomehkt - Also early spring. She's shy, so she won't be the one to tell anyone if they don't ask. But she will be very happy if someone remembers and gives her a little gift or throws a surprise party for her.
Arcane OCs -here we go...‐
Devoan - January 11th. She's surprised if someone remembers her birthday, and if she doesn't know them, she might wonder how the fuck they found out, but she'll be happy to recieve gifts and birthday wishes. Maybe don't throw a party for her with more than five or six people total, her social battery is always running low as is.
Minute - She doesn't know her birthday. It's not like there was anyone to tell it to her. I will say however, she's a Taurus. But because Mita oesn't know it, she doesn't celebrate it.
Pepper - January 31st. There's not exactly a whole lot of birthday celebrations going around the undercity, but when she was younger, Pepper and Sevika used to go out to eat, and find a gambling house and cheat at cards for fun. To this day, they've never been caught.
Sketch - April 4th. Yes I know that's today, but I promise I'm not making these up on the spot. Maybe next year I'll do an event for her birthday. But Sketch is quite a bit like her mother, in the way she likes to keep it on the downlow, and you can't really tell she's on some special birthday shenanigans instead of regular shenanigans with a little extra spice.
Mystique - October 30th. She won't be the one to tell anyone her birthday, but she will treat herself on her birthday to something expensive and beautiful. If you offer her a gift, it better be good if you want her to keep it.
Rihzo - October 3rd. She's happy to recieve birthday wishes and gifts and if your a friend of hers. She might invite you to a small get together for a celebration. Though, don't blame her if she just wants to get drunk. She doesn't give herself that opportunity very often.
Edit: my dude, I totally forgot the Doom OCs
Mania - March 29th. Birthdays are special to her, and she loved celebrating them, just usually only with one other person to get into some trouble with. Perfect gift for her is definitely some fireworks.
Aneliya - Technically it's Febuary 29th. Her sister likes to joke with her that she actually only ages every four years. But she and her family always spend birthdays together, and occasionally, they'll invite some friends over for a birthday dinner outing.

UNDER THE RADAR: MAY 2020
Tumblr media
Good news y’all – May’s Under the Radar made it into our May postings. There has been no shortage of fun, inspiring releases from Canada’s own; this month’s features are Desirée Dawson and Francis Arevalo, Poor Traits, Sound of Kalima, Fallen Stars, esc., and NIIVA.
1) Desirée Dawson and Francis Arevalo - “Move On”
Pure light, Desirée Dawson and Francis Arevalo lift others up with their art, and the result is something special. “Move On” is more than a superficial motivational cut, it has a spiritual guidance drawn from heritage, and community. Beyond the self-reflection and perseverance from within, power is found from forces near, seen or not. It’s abstract, reminding us of our humanity and what is needed to heal in times of need.
They sing from the heart, no gimmicks (“Honour every scar we wear as armour walking through life”). Dawson has a bright, soulful tone, it treads nicely with rapper Arevalo’s honest, effortless flow. Both have clear delivery, dedicated to nothing other than a hope to survive – thrive. It’s a collaboration that reminds listeners about life, our innate creativity, trauma, and freedom we hold.

2) Poor Traits - “Stay Up”
“Stay Up” marks the start of a new chapter for Vancouver rock outfit Poor Traits. Back from a 4-year hiatus, their nostalgic guitar lines are bolstered by rich imagery and a tender devotion.
The song opens with vocalist Alex Badger humming a few notes before the guitar kicks in. Her voice has always been one of the most intriguing parts of their sound because it is quite soft, but holds its own even as their instrumentals get a little more jarring. Granted, "Stay Up” is one of their most pared-down releases to date with a narrative that follows suit—one of glass prisms and the small gestures in our relationships; every breath and every whirl, magnified in one’s absence. Was it worth it?

3) Sound of Kalima - “Wild Trash”
“something beautiful, breathe the chemicals / smoke is going up, we’re doing something seminal”
I can’t quite put a finger on their sound, but then again, Sal and Peter are constantly shifting gears – moving, innovating. Their new effort is impassioned, witty edge included. It has the grit we imagine in dirt, but the dynamic of a new creation, like a waste-to-energy project with sustainable impact. At their heart, Sound of Kalima play with electronic, hip hop, soul and dance genres; “Wild Trash” has a more avant-garde, punk feel than some of their recent collaborations. It mood swings between grungy verses and your traditional upbeat pop chorus.
“It’s meant to evoke an image of a not-so-distant future where our home planet has become overridden with trash,” the duo shared. A crisis that doesn’t seem far in reach, co-existing, much less the survival of our environment is a difficult ask. Taking after its concept, the track delivers – animated, a little manic but largely enlightening.

4) Fallen Stars ft. Jade - “Our Stand”
It is so encouraging to see artists create from experiences close to their heart. Fallen Stars’ “Our Stand” features vocals from their bassist Jade Weekes, a trans woman. It’s pretty accessible hard rock but no less effective, Weekes’ vocals full-bodied and operatic at times. Menacing, mid-paced, and coming from a place of healing; the spoken-word bridge gives their chugging riffs a breather, reminding us our actions are our future.

5) esc. - “sun”
The term ‘jazz pop’ only scratches the surface for this quartet. Their new single, “sun,” is abstractly adventurous but woefully short, clocking in at under 1:30. Electronics bring a funk-meets-ethereal vibe to the song – also a fair description of Isobel Ralph’s contributions, with her vocal range and ease. “So keep it coming after dark / running from the likes online is who we are,” she sings of breaking from social media validation for some much-needed air.
I first came across esc. (a.k.a. The Escapes) 3 years ago and it has been such a treat to follow the evolution of their sound. The hooks are fresh and the grooves are deep; esc. grasps moments for what they are, without hesitation, and keeps them spinning.

6) NIIVA - “Love Games”
“Love Games” is a conversation, not a plea for help. It goes beyond the pent up, emotional turmoil – the narrator knows they’re not in a healthy relationship, but it’s love, and that is enough. It’s a comfort, an admission of attachment that is tender to the touch (“I’m living with the pain”). For what it’s worth, a fine line between submission and self-assurance, NIIVA breathes life into her heroine. Her smokey RnB tone has a forlorn edge, the production adding an urgency to the sultry pop track.
Based in Toronto, the artist has a genuine, expressive quality to her music. “Love Games” is not a fight, but is a trial. All feelings are valid; it’s important to understand, adapt, survive, and know that that there is help beyond those walls.
