How the NCLEX Presents Maternity Nursing
One of the most important steps in the licensure process for nursing students is passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX). This extensive test evaluates the knowledge and abilities required for safe and efficient nursing practice. One of the topics addressed in the NCLEX is maternity nursing, thus it's critical to be well-prepared for this section of the test. We'll offer a thorough list of NCLEX Maternity Nursing-specific preparation advice in this article.
It's important to comprehend the format and content of the NCLEX Maternity Nursing section before getting into preparatory advice. This section evaluates your proficiency and understanding of caring for expectant moms, newborn babies, and pregnant women. It addresses many different subjects, such as newborn care, labor and delivery, postpartum care, and prenatal care. Questions about typical pregnancies and deliveries, high-risk pregnancies, difficulties, and nursing interventions are all expected.
An Overview of Crucial Topics in Maternity NCLEX
Prenatal Care
It's important to comprehend prenatal care. This includes evaluating the mother's and the growing fetus's health, keeping an eye out for any difficulties, and educating expectant mothers about healthy eating habits and lifestyle choices.
Labor and Delivery
It's important to understand the phases of labor, the birthing process, and the nurse's role during labor. Both the typical labor process and any potential problems are covered in this article.
Postpartum Care
Postpartum nursing care is keeping an eye on the mother's recuperation following delivery, evaluating her for any difficulties, and offering emotional support and assistance with breastfeeding.
Newborn Care
Maternity nurses must possess extensive knowledge in the area of newborn care. This entails evaluating the newborn's health, care, feeding, and identifying any warning indications of possible problems.
High-Risk Pregnancies
Understanding high-risk pregnancy diseases such gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, and multiple pregnancies is essential. Nurses are in charge of keeping an eye on and managing these situations.
Complications during pregnancy and childbirth
Obstetricians and midwives should be knowledgeable about frequent issues during pregnancy and childbirth, including ectopic pregnancies, placenta previa, and fetal distress, and be equipped to treat properly.

Attend the 14IHNPUCG lecture by Dr. Eloise Elaine Phillips about Nursing and the journey to Advanced Practitioner.
Tumblr media
Introduction
Nursing is a dynamic and fulfilling profession that combines the art of caring with the science of healthcare. For many nurses, the journey does not end at earning a basic nursing degree. Instead, it is the beginning of a path toward advanced practice, where they can significantly impact patient care, healthcare policies, and the future of the profession. This blog explores the steps involved in becoming an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN), the challenges faced, and the rewards of this career path.
Speaker Announcement..!! We’re so excited to welcome this amazing speaker, Dr. Eloise Elaine Phillips, She will present her talk “Nursing and the journey to Advanced Practitioner” at our CME/CPD accredited 14th International Healthcare, Hospital Management, Nursing, and Patient Safety Conference from July 25-27, 2024 in Dubai, UAE July 25-27, 2024 | Holiday Inn Dubai, UAE WhatsApp: https://wa.me/442033222718 Register now: https://nursing-healthcare.universeconferences.com/registration/ Submit your research here: https://nursing-healthcare.universeconferences.com/submit-abstract/ The Role of an Advanced Practitioner Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) are highly educated nurses who have completed advanced clinical training. They serve in various roles, including Nurse Practitioners (NPs), Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNSs), Nurse Anesthetists (CRNAs), and Nurse Midwives (CNMs). APRNs have the expertise to diagnose and treat illnesses, prescribe medications, and manage patient care. They often serve as primary and specialty care providers, filling a crucial gap in the healthcare system, especially in underserved areas.
Steps to Becoming an APRN
Earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN): The journey begins with obtaining a BSN, which typically takes four years. This degree provides foundational knowledge in nursing theory, practice, and critical thinking skills necessary for advanced study.
Pass the NCLEX-RN Exam: After earning a BSN, graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-RN) to become licensed Registered Nurses (RNs). This exam tests the knowledge and skills required to perform safely and effectively as an entry-level nurse.
Gain Clinical Experience: Before pursuing advanced practice, it is essential to gain practical experience as an RN. This period allows nurses to refine their clinical skills, understand patient care dynamics, and determine their specialization area.
Pursue a Graduate Degree: To become an APRN, nurses must earn a Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree. These programs offer specialized education and training in advanced clinical practice, research, and leadership.
Choose a Specialty: During their graduate studies, nurses select a specialty area, such as family practice, pediatrics, geriatrics, or acute care. This specialization dictates the scope of practice and the patient population they will serve.
Obtain Certification: After completing their graduate program, nurses must obtain certification in their chosen specialty from a recognized certifying body, such as the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) or the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Acquire State Licensure: APRNs must be licensed to practice in their state. Licensing requirements vary by state but generally include certification, graduate education, and sometimes additional exams.
Challenges along the Way
The path to becoming an APRN is rigorous and demanding. Some of the common challenges include:
Financial Burden: Advanced education can be expensive, and many nurses juggle work, studies, and family responsibilities.
Balancing Work and Study: Many nurses continue working while pursuing advanced degrees, which requires excellent time management and dedication.
Keeping Up with Advances: The healthcare field is constantly evolving, and APRNs must stay current with the latest research, technologies, and best practices.
The Rewards of Advanced Practice
Despite the challenges, the journey to becoming an APRN is incredibly rewarding. Some of the benefits include:
Increased Autonomy: APRNs often have greater independence in their practice, allowing them to make critical decisions and manage patient care more directly.
Higher Earning Potential: Advanced practice roles typically come with higher salaries compared to standard nursing positions.
Professional Satisfaction: APRNs often experience a high level of job satisfaction from their ability to provide comprehensive care, educate patients, and contribute to healthcare improvements.
Leadership Opportunities: Advanced practitioners frequently take on leadership roles within healthcare organizations, shaping policies and guiding clinical practices.
Conclusion
The journey to becoming an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse is challenging but immensely fulfilling. It requires dedication, hard work, and a passion for patient care. For those who embark on this path, the rewards are significant, both professionally and personally. As APRNs, nurses can make a profound difference in the lives of their patients and the broader healthcare system, ensuring high-quality care for all.

BREAKING NEWS: Abuja nurses protest new certificate verification guidelines
Tumblr media
Nurses under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, Abuja chapter, on Monday, protested against the new verification certification guidelines released by the Nigeria and Midwifery Council of Nigeria. The nurses expressed displeasure over what they described as an attempt to hinder their freedom to pursue career opportunities, asking the council to address nurses’ welfare, salary scale, shortage of staff, and other rights. The protest monitored by our correspondent was carried out at the NMCN’s office in Abuja. The NMCN had on February 7, 2024, issued a circular revising the guidelines for requesting verification of certificates for nurses and midwives. The council’s circular was released after The PUNCH reported the deactivation of the verification portal on NMCN’s website since December 2023. The circular signed by the Registrar of the council, Dr Faruk Abubakar, read in part, “A non-refundable fee per application shall be paid for verification to foreign boards of nursing as specified on the portal. This shall cover the cost of courier services to the applicant’s institution(s) of training, place of work, and foreign board. “Eligible applicants must have a minimum of two years post qualification experience from the date of issuance of the permanent practicing licence. Any application with a provisional licence shall be rejected outright. “The council shall request a letter of good standing from the chief executive officer of the applicant’s place(s) of work and the last nursing training institution attended and responses on these shall be addressed directly to the Registrar/CEO, NMCN. Please note that the council shall not accept such letter(s) through the applicant.” The council also stated that applicants must have active practising licences with a minimum of six months to the expiration date, and processing of verification applications would take a minimum of six months. It added that the implementation of the guidelines takes effect from March 1, 2024 Meanwhile, on Monday, the nurses and midwives were at the NMCN office singing and wielding placards around the premises . Some of the inscriptions on the placards read, “Address unemployment among nurses, address quakery, address nurses welfare, and “#No to verification rules. Stop frustrating the Nigerian nurses, we are going through a lot already, Protect nurses, protect healthcare, NMCN, we say no to the verification rules, NMCN, don’t reduce nurses” among others. Taking care of young people, the general public, and children
The nurse's major goal, according to this field of practice, is to help the child or young person and their family prevent or manage the physiological, physical, social, psychological, and spiritual repercussions of a health problem or condition, as well as its treatment.
A kid is defined as someone under the age of 18 according to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). A child is considered an adult when he or she reaches the age of eighteen. Different laws apply in different parts of the UK, with different age limits for those leaving care, as well as the age of consent and criminal liability. Each of England, Wales, Northern Ireland, and Scotland has its own set of laws and guidelines for keeping children safe.
Parental duty refers to the legal rights and responsibilities that all mothers and most fathers have as parents. From the moment her child is born, she has parental responsibilities. If a father is either of the following, he usually has parental responsibility:
· Married to the mother of the child, according to the birth certificate (after a certain date, depending on which part of the UK the child was born in). A court can grant parental responsibility to the child's father, stepparent, or second female parent. Parental obligation must also be recognised and examined in a variety of other situations, such as same-sex relationships, civil partnerships, and surrogacy.
When a child is adopted, parental duty is transferred from the birth parent or other person with parental obligation to the adoptive parents. All legal links between an adopted child and their biological parents are severed. When a kid is adopted, he or she becomes a complete member of their new family, usually adopting the family name and inheriting the same rights and benefits as if the adoptive family had given birth to them Adoption is a significant legal decision that is seldom overturned. In accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council's Code of Conduct, nurses, midwives, and health visitors must always act in the best interests of the child. In terms of permission and confidentiality, a child or young person has the same rights as an adult.
Children have unique requirements and should not be considered "little grownups." Services and facilities must be customised to satisfy their specific requirements. The RCN actively promotes the notion that services should be established based on the needs of children rather than professional and organisational responsibilities and limits. Giving support and care to family members, such as parents and carers, is part of caring for a child. Policies that support practise areas caring for neonates, children, and young people must be in place for organisations providing services to babies, children, and young people (RCN).

Nursing care for children and teenagers:
Nursing children and adolescents includes everything from caring for sick babies to giving care and support in the child's own home, at school, in children's hospices, and in residential care settings. Children and young people's nursing encompasses a wide range of specialties, including neonatal nursing, children and young people's mental health nursing, health visiting, and school nursing. Children's nurse is an example of a health vocation.
What is the definition of public health?
· All organised measures (whether public or private) to prevent disease, enhance health, and lengthen life among the population as a whole are referred to as public health.
· Individuals, organisations, and society can all benefit from public health when it comes to preventing disease, mortality, and disability.
· Prevention: lowering the risk of illness by encouraging a healthy lifestyle.
· Infectious disease surveillance and monitoring, emergency response, and immunisation
· Promotion: health education and service commissioning to address specific health needs.
· Listen to this audio on public health nursing via Past Caring.
· Also available online is the RCN public health nursing exhibition: Work that is good for you: Nursing in public health has a long and illustrious history.
Public Health:
Over the previous 100 years, life expectancy has increased significantly. However, there are significant disparities in the population, with some localities reporting a 20-year gap. Living longer does not always imply that you will live better or healthier.
During the twentieth century, improved housing and living circumstances, as well as greater access to health care and vaccination, resulted in a major reduction in infectious diseases.
Non-communicable diseases, such as diabetes and respiratory disorders, are becoming more prevalent today. Unhealthy lifestyles, such as smoking, obesity, and alcohol consumption, are frequently the root causes of poor health. These are linked to social inequality as well. The primary cause is deprivation, although other factors such as education and social habits also play a role.
In terms of public health, nurses play an important role:
Nursing personnel are involved in practically every stage and setting of care, and as a result, they play a critical role in a variety of public health programmes. Learn more about the importance of nursing in public health.
Prevent, Protect, and Promote are three public health specialty areas:
The '3Ps' of public health refer to three distinct strands: health promotion, disease prevention, and health protection.
Within these threads, there is a lot of overlap and cross-over in public health specialties. There is a need to understand not only the causes of illness, but also what keeps individuals well and healthy, and how to preserve and support this in all areas.
Registration is now OPEN and you are only a few easy clicks away from being registered for the CME/CPD accredited 13th World Nursing, Healthcare Management, and Patient Safety Conference on November 15-18, 2023 in Los Angeles, USA. The History of Maternity Law in Britain
Maternity hospitals in the UK can be traced back to the 18th century, although, back then, the majority of women gave birth at home. Unfortunately, national funding was withdrawn from 31 August 1945 but the London County Council continued to pay for the use of emergency maternity homes for women who could not give birth at home.
Tumblr media
Midwives
The Midwives Act 1902 established a register of midwives, because of concerns about the large number of maternal and infant deaths. It then became a legal offence to 'habitually and for gain, attend women in childbirth otherwise than under the direction of a qualified medical practitioner unless she be certified under this Act.' To this day, the register is still maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Council.
Maternity Services
Women who do not have ordinarily resident status in the UK are liable for charges for maternity services of around £7000 or even more if there are complications. People can also be charged for miscarriages and stillbirths. This greatly discourages migrant women from accessing care. They may also receive care from more than one hospital resulting in them receiving more than one bill.
Maternity Benefits
The 1911 Act provided a maternity benefit of thirty shillings for the wives of those who paid National Insurance Contributions.
Nowadays, Statutory Maternity Pay is payable to women who are employed and have worked long enough to qualify. Maternity Allowance is paid to those who do not qualify for it but have paid enough National Insurance Contributions.

May 12, 2020: King Felipe and Queen Letizia have held a videoconference with the president of the General Council Official Colleges of Nursing
The College Nursing Organization is made up of the General Nursing Council, 17 Autonomous Councils and 52 Provincial Colleges. Its president Florencio Perez Raya has explained to the Kings the analysis of the health crisis, the proposals from the nursing profession and the direct human impact of the pandemic in Spain, with one of the highest rates of contagion among healthcare professionals in the European Union .
According to official data, health professionals account for more than 20% of the total number of people affected. The General Council counts 74,000 as the number of nursing professionals who have had or have symptoms compatible with COVID19. During the crisis, one nurse and three nurses died from the virus and another nurse, in a traffic accident while on her way to work at her center.
From the General Nursing Council, the 17 Autonomous Councils and the 52 provincial schools, a series of actions and recommendations have been carried out not only directed at their members but at society as a whole (https://www.consejogeneralenfermeria.org/ covid-19).
Infographics and videos on how to wash hands, isolation measures, cleaning and disinfection at home, correct use of face masks or EPIS, care for dependent patients in home isolation, recommendations to avoid toxic habits ...    Courses / seminars on updating before COVID-19 and on psychological support for health professionals.    Purchase of safety and protection material for health professionals: masks, gowns, PPE, face shields    Support for the repatriation of professionals who were abroad.    Provide accommodation for those who need to have no contact with their family and for those who have moved from one province to another.
The nursing collective brings together 307,000 professionals in Spain. Of which, 260,000 are those dedicated to healthcare, socio-healthcare and also to the field of management. Another 47,000, nurses, are unemployed, already retired, working as university professors or belonging to other areas outside of care.
In the last 20 years, the nursing profession in Spain has undergone an unprecedented evolution: it is considered one of the most advanced in the world due to its study plan and postgraduate training with full academic development (master and doctorate) and the possibility to obtain the title of Nurse Specialist in six areas (6 specialties out of the 7 that are approved) which are accessed through a state EIR test and are carried out through a residence in health centers.
On this May 12, it coincides that the International Nursing Day is celebrated in memory of the birth - two centuries ago today - of Florence Nightingale, a British nurse, writer and statistician, considered a precursor of modern professional nursing and creator of the first conceptual model of nursing. And this year 2020 had been declared by the WHO the international year of nurses and midwives. Due to the crisis, it is being considered to expand it to 2021 to make a well-deserved recognition of the profession.
The General Council of Official Nursing Colleges of Spain is the regulatory body for the nursing profession in Spain and has the power to represent the profession as a whole, both internationally and nationally, in order to contribute to the strengthening of the status and practice of the nursing profession and represent and defend the interests of nurses in Spain.

Learn Gynacology and Obstetrics Nursing in Nursing Manner at the 12NHPSUCG.
Tumblr media
A speciality of nursing is obstetrical and gynaecological care for women throughout pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period. It is crucial to promote the health of childbearing women and their families from before conception in order to have healthy children. The health of pregnant women, the foetus, and the emotional readiness of the family for parenthood depend on prenatal care and advice. Rapid and effective treatment contributes to a decrease in maternal mortality and morbidity.
The department is set up so that graduate and postgraduate students can gain the in-depth expertise they need to function in the many maternity nursing contexts, including the physical and psychological aspects of parenting. Additionally, the department trains our students to be proficient researchers, managers, and educators in the field of maternity nursing.
OBGYN Nursing: Gynaecology and Obstetrics Nursing
Women's reproductive health is covered by gynaecology and obstetrics (OBGYN) nursing from the start of menstruation through pregnancy, childbirth, and menopause. Women who have diseases or conditions that affect their reproductive system, such as cancer, endometriosis, or STDs, can also be treated by gynaecology nurses. This title also includes subspecialties including labour and delivery nursing and perinatal nursing. The focus of obstetrics nursing is on a woman's postpartum health as well as pregnancy and childbirth. The two types of nurses frequently work together in a hospital, private practise, or health clinic. Gynaecology nursing is concerned with a woman's reproductive health.
OBGYN nurses will collaborate with supervising physicians and midwives to carry out a wide range of tasks, including setting up exam rooms, collecting medical histories, assisting with procedures, preparing patients for screenings or procedures, helping with births, and educating patients. No matter where they work or what they specialise in, OB or Gyn, these nurses ensure sure their patients are informed on crucial prenatal care, birth control alternatives, and sexually transmitted diseases.
You must have a degree in nursing from a recognised institution and a nursing licence from your state in order to work as a gynaecology or obstetrics nurse. Either a four-year Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) degree from a college or university, or an Associate Degree in Nursing (ASN or ADN) from a community college, can be used to become a nurse. An ideal alternative for advancing in this industry is eventually earning a master's degree in nursing. After receiving your degree, you must sit for and pass the NCLEX exam (National Council Licensure Examination) required by your state's board of nursing. A crucial component of your training for this speciality is certification. You must be a registered nurse with 2,000 hours of experience in the field of obstetrics during the two years prior to taking the exam in order to be eligible to take the inpatient obstetric nursing exam offered by the National Certification Corporation. You might join the Association of Women's Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses (AWHONN) to network, learn more about this profession, and explore chances for advancement.
What Does a Do Gynaecologists?
In addition to pelvic examinations, Pap tests, cancer screenings, and diagnosis and treatment for vaginal infections, gynaecologists also provide reproductive and sexual health services.
They identify and handle conditions affecting the reproductive system include endometriosis, infertility, ovarian cysts, and pelvic pain. They might also provide care for those who have cervical, ovarian, or other reproductive malignancies.
Some gynaecologists also work as obstetricians, providing care for expectant mothers and new mothers. A gynaecologist is referred to as an OB/GYN if they are also knowledgeable in obstetrics.
Finding a Reliable OB/GYN
The most delicate areas of your body are something you wouldn't want to entrust to just anyone. You should therefore give great consideration to your OB/GYN selection.
Don't just choose a doctor at random from your insurance provider list. Obtain a recommendation from a friend, relative, or your primary care physician. Most screening procedures can typically be handled by your primary care provider, and if a specialist is required, they will have appropriate referral sources.
Think about if you would like a male or female gynaecologist when you make your choice. Since they must strip entirely for the examination, some women feel better at ease seeing a doctor who identifies as a woman.
