It's October 15th, ♀️ International Day of Rural Women. Since 2008, the United Nations has been sponsoring this annual event as part of its overall commitment to eradicating poverty, hunger, and inequality all over this world. The UN believes that improving the lives of Rural Women is the key to making this happen.
Rural women ensure food security for their communities, build climate resilience, and strengthen economies. Yet, gender inequalities, such as discriminatory laws and social norms, combined with a fast-changing economic, technological and environmental landscape restrict their full potential, leaving them far behind men and their urban counterparts.
Women make up more than 40% of the agricultural labor force in developing countries, ranging from 20% in Latin America to 50% and more in parts of Africa and Asia. Yet these women face significant discrimination when it comes to pay, land and livestock ownership, and access to the credit, resources, markets, and decision-making processes that could help their farms succeed and flourish. Giving women the same opportunities as men could raise agricultural production by 2.5 to 4% in the poorest regions and reduce malnourishment by 12 to 17%.
Let's recognize the work these heroines perform within our world's food systems and support the efforts of those who are fighting to establish equal opportunities for all rural women. ☮️ Peace… Jamiese of Pixoplanet

The theme for this year's Rural Women's Day is "Rural Women Cultivating Good Food for All."
