#Nawazuddin Siddiqui Affairs
Bollywood Movies Part CCVIII
Tumblr media
Inspector Jatil Yadav (Nawazuddin Siddiqui) investigates the murder of the influential Raghubeer Singh (Khalid Tyabji) on his wedding night to his young second wife Radha (Radhika Apte). As Jatil investigates, he learns more about Raghubeer’s proclivities and about family secrets long left undisturbed, including the truth about the death of Jatil’s first wife (Natasha Rastogi).
CW for movie: human trafficking, rape, sexual abuse of a minor, some gore. Raat Akeli Hai is a good whodunnit that gives us a satisfying ending, while also being a love story. I enjoyed Jatil and Radha’s interactions, but I loved the performances of Shivani Raghuvanshi and Padmavati Rao as the combative Vasudha (Raghubeer’s niece) and the reprehensible Pramila Singh (Raghubeer’s sister-in-law) respectively. Ila Arun was also good as Jatil’s mother who wants him to get married. Favorite song is Ghoom Charkhya (no subtitles).
Tumblr media
Kaajal (Bhumi Pednekar) moves out from her cousin Dolly’s (Konkona Sen Sharma) place when Dolly’s husband Amit (Aamir Bashir) makes a move on her and leaves her hated factory job. To make ends meet, she starts working at an adult call center as Kitty and begins an affair with “Pradeep” (Vikrat Massey), one of her callers. Meanwhile, Dolly deals with trying to make ends meet for her and Amit’s new luxury apartment that under construction and with the backlash against her son Pappu (Kalp Shah) liking girly things.
CW: corporal punishment. Dolly Kitty aur woh Chamakte Sitare is a good film about two cousins and their lives. It does a good job talking about women experiencing sex and desire without punishing them for it. It also doesn’t shy away from showing the realities of the society they live in, but doesn’t make those realities disheartening. A great example of this is the call center and how all the women there support each other. Favorite songs are Neet Ve and Khwabida (audio only). Neither song has subtitles.
Tumblr media
Akash (Aditya Roy Kapur) goes to local crime lord Sattu Bhaiya (Pankaj Tripathi) to help take down a sex video made of him and his ex-girlfriend Shruti (Sanya Malhotra) without their knowledge. Meanwhile, Aalu (Rajkummar Rao) tries to help the woman he loves, Pinky (Fatima Sana Shaikh), when she comes to him to help get her husband out of jail for being prime suspect in a murder Sattu Bhaiya committed. After being released from prison, Bittu (Abhishek Bachchan), Sattu Bhaiya’s former second in command, meets Mini (Inayat Verma) who has run away from home and agrees with her plan to pretend to kidnap her to get her parents’ attention. Rahul (Rohit Saraf), after being taken by Sattu Bhaiya for being near the murder, manages to get Sattu Bhaiya’s money with the help of nurse Sheeja (Pearle Maaney), but Sattu Bhaiya sends his goons after them to get his money back.
Ludo is an entertaining dark comedy that is structurally based on the board game ludo (more recognizable to Americans as Parcheesi). It was quite entertaining and funny, while also being heartwarming. I loved Bittu and Mini’s story because of how cute it was, especially when Mini prompts Bittu on how to make ransom calls to her parents. Overall, a fun romp. Favorite songs are Qismat Ki Hawa Kabhi Naram (originally from Albela), Aarbaad Barbaad, and Meri Tum Ho. None of the songs have subtitles.

On the day I meet James Norton the front page story in The Times is about an English police force taking bribes from a crime syndicate. The foreign pages are full of slippery promises from the American president about confronting Russian and Chinese “meddling”. The day before, a report has surfaced about a Saudi prince who, though leading an austerity drive in his country, has been found to be the owner — through a series of shell companies — of the world’s most expensive house, in France.
McMafia, Norton’s new eight-part BBC thriller — filmed in 11 countries, featuring as many languages and based on the journalist Misha Glenny’s non-fiction book about the extraordinary global reach of organised crime — may accidentally be the world’s most relevant bit of TV drama.
“It’s bizarre,” says the 32-year-old, best known for his two most divergent roles, the crime-solving, jazz-loving, smouldering vicar Sidney Chambers in Grantchester and the dangerous psychopath Tommy Lee Royce in Happy Valley, as we sit down in a heroically anonymous room at a London PR agency.
Norton’s McMafia character, Alex Godman, was created by the writer Hossein Amini (Drive) as the focus of the central human drama on which hang versions of the terrifying global machinations described in Glenny’s book. Godman is the son of an exiled Russian mafia boss, raised in Britain and running a hedge fund. He struggles to escape the grip of his family’s murky past while he’s constantly pulled at by the undercurrent of violence and corruption that flows rapidly, dangerously, just beneath the surface of his world. (From one brooding Russian to another — Prince Andrei in the BBC’s War & Peace was good practice, it turns out.)
Flitting between London, Mumbai, the Czech Republic, Russia, Israel, Egypt and elsewhere, the sometimes hard-to-watch series exposes the interconnectivity of international organised crime and how, even lightly, it touches all of us.
“I’ve never been on a job like it,” Norton says. “Usually what happens is that you feel you’re trying to keep up with current affairs and make it as relevant as possible. In the first week, we were filming in London and all the stories about Trump’s [alleged] collusion with Russia during the election were breaking. We have FSB agents in our show who are working for the state but also facilitating the gangsters, and so we suddenly felt like the zeitgeist was chasing us.”
Since the end of filming, he says, the Paradise and Panama Papers scandals have broken, “and with all the stuff with Trump and Putin and Sessions and Comey, people want to know what high-level corruption looks like. What we hope is that this show is both a great piece of drama, but also that it captures the appetite for people to know why the hell there is such a small minority who are stupidly wealthy.” That seems to extend to the cast: “We had Russian actors on set railing at Putin in Russian and the director was going, ‘What the hell are they saying?’ ”
McMafia may have the most international cast the BBC has assembled. And what a cast. Viewers familiar with Bollywood will be thrilled to see Nawazuddin Siddiqui as a Mumbai fixer (“He had two assistants with mirrors either side of him, checking every angle,” Norton says), while fans of Russian cinema will be elated to find Aleksey Serebryakov (Leviathan) and Mariya Shukshina, often described in the West as the Russian Meryl Streep, playing Alex’s parents, Dimitri and Oksana. If you saw Bridge of Spies, or Deutschland 83, or you happen to be Georgian, you’ll recognise Merab Ninidze, oddly appealing here as Vadim Kalyagin, Dimitri’s old rival. The Brits aren’t shabby either — Juliet Rylance plays Alex’s English girlfriend, Rebecca.
Most of the actors (150 with speaking roles) use their own accents and many their native languages — the show switches seamlessly, and constantly, from English to subtitles, an “encouraging” sign, Norton thinks, that producers and channels are finally wising up to the fact that audiences don’t want to be patronised.
“We had no British actors doing dodgy Russian accents,” Norton begins, then realises that’s not strictly true — “Oh actually, I dug myself a hole there, didn’t I.” Alex, fluent in Russian, occasionally switches languages. “I had to learn it all phonetically. When I was being spoken to in Russian, I had to learn their lines in English so I knew what I was reacting to, and I had to learn my lines in Russian so I could answer them.”
Alex’s father mostly speaks Russian, while Alex battles to answer him in English as a way of asserting this new identity — a scenario lifted from Amini’s experience, Norton says. “Hoss is from Iran, and he said it was the same thing with his parents. They would be like, ‘Speak in your mother language!’ and he’d be like, ‘No! I’m speaking English.’ ”
For Norton, walking on set every day “and having a new brilliant actor from a different part of the world, I felt way out of my depth” in having to be the fulcrum of the story that links them all. But it was also, apparently, a riot, particularly with the Russians.
“They come in and there’s no airs and graces, no polite, English, ‘do you think we could change this line?’ Aleksey is just like, ‘This scene, no drama, it’s shit, we want drama!’ and the director, James Watkins, and I would be like, ‘Um, OK, let’s try it …’ Four out of five times what he offered was just way too big and ridiculous, but then one out of five was extraordinary.” (Norton does Serebryakov in a heavy Russian accent. I can’t tell whether it’s any good, but it is very funny.)
It’s been a glamorous but gruelling few months of filming, so Norton is chuffed to be back in London — he grew up in North Yorkshire, with his parents, Hugh and Lavinia, both teachers, and his sister Jessica, now a GP, but has been based in London for ten years — and performing at the Donmar Warehouse. In the New York writer Amy Herzog’s play Belleville he plays Zack, one half of an American couple in Paris (his wife, Abby, is played by Imogen Poots), battling to keep the lid on a wriggling bag of secrets and lies.
They’re an extreme pair, but, Norton says, “One thing about Belleville is how well observed it is and how much you can recognise yourself and your own relationships in the play. We’re all going, ‘Oh God, which one am I?’ ” Though it’s high drama, it’s a true portrait of the struggles of millennials, he thinks. “It tells the story of two people in their late twenties, who have been fed this narrative that they have to lead this life, have a house at this point, kids by this point and money in the bank, and the truth is there just aren’t enough houses, there aren’t enough jobs, there isn’t enough money — or there is but it’s Alex Godman who’s got it.”
Norton has also recently started doing a bit of work with the charity JDRF, which focuses on research in type 1 diabetes in children. Norton has the condition, as do his mother and sister. He was 22 when he was diagnosed; his mother (like Theresa May) was in her fifties, but his sister was only nine.
“It’s a totally manageable condition, but it’s particularly hard for kids,” he says. “But it’s fine. You lead a normal life. One thing I don’t have in my life is a routine, so I do have to be on it a bit, but no more than anyone else. In Belleville, you don’t know this [when you’re watching] but there are Lucozade bottles everywhere. There’s one in the fridge, there’s one in the bathroom, the bedroom, off stage. If I’m feeling a little bit low, I have a sneaky sip.”
He lives in Peckham, southeast London, alone now because his flatmate, a friend from school, has recently gone to live abroad. He’s local to me, so we briefly discuss our favourite restaurants, but agree not to mention them, not so much because he doesn’t want people coming up to him, but “because otherwise I might not be able to get a table’’.
People will come up to him regardless, which he’s fine with, even though the rumours about him becoming the next James Bond are swirling again. He makes a valiant effort not to roll his eyes when I bring it up. “There isn’t anything to say, it’s very flattering, but … people love to speculate about it and it’s such an important part of our cultural heritage, and so it’s lovely to be in that conversation but beyond that … anyway I selfishly love Daniel Craig as Bond, so I don’t really want him to stop.”
He tells me he’s single: “Jessie Buckley [his War & Peace co-star] and I went our separate ways in the summer, and it was all fine.” As you might expect, it doesn’t last long — shortly after we meet he’s snapped in London snogging his Belleville co-star Poots. “It’s not the easiest job when it comes to a relationship,” he says. “The play finishes on the third of February and I’ve no idea where I’m going to be on the fourth.”
That’s the best and worst part of the job, he admits. “I love that nomadic, unpredictable lifestyle; I get a real thrill from it. I know some people would hate it — I haven’t committed to a holiday with friends for the past six years, I just jump on them at the last minute. I missed seven weddings the year before last. That’s the cost. But it’s so exciting. Right now I’m very happy to be muddling along.”
As Amazon (in a deal with BBC Worldwide) gears up to premiere McMafia in more than 200 countries, I’m not sure that’s what I’d call it. Hurtling might be a better word. McMafia starts on BBC One on New Year’s Day at 9pm. Belleville is at the Donmar Warehouse, London WC2 (020 3282 3808), until February 3. jdrf.org.uk

‘Serious Men’ movie review: For all the primitive minds
New Post has been published on https://jordarnews.in/serious-men-movie-review-for-all-the-primitive-minds/
‘Serious Men’ movie review: For all the primitive minds
This Sudhir Mishra-directed film is a satire and an incisive look at caste and its subsequent social construct that is part funny, part ambitious and a tad generic
There are few movies that have a particular scene or moment you may have missed but lingers on, making you replay it from the beginning, in your head, just to make sense of it as a whole — it is just for the sake of pleasure, sometimes. Like this consequential scene that arrives in the opening portions of Serious Men, which, at that point, seemed quite inconsequential. Early on, we see Ayyan Mani (Nawazuddin Siddiqui who is fantastically defiant and who is more “Mumbaikar” than Tamil) entering the premises of National Institute of Fundamental Research, perhaps, the most elitist of organisations — where he works as a personal assistant to his Brahmin boss, Arvind Acharya (Nasser) — and pausing at a white board which has the following text: “Indians who write in English don’t understand India.” Absolutely true, no doubt. But what makes it an interesting commentary is the name of the person to whom it is attributed: Saravana W. Perhaps they meant Savarna?
Ayyan flips the board to a text that reads this: “Reservations cannot be the only compensation to treating fellow human beings like animals for the last 3,000 years.” It is a note supposedly written by a Tamil: Arivunambi Ghatak, whose Bengali surname is borrowed from a master filmmaker. Without much thought, Ayyan quickly changes the name to Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen. He gets caught sheepishly by a colleague who says, “Ayyan, Sen never said this. You’ll get into trouble for this, one day.”
He does not realise then nor does he seem to care either, as long as it delivers the point and as long as “someone says it”. Now whether people would buy into this cooked up text because it has Sen’s name attached to it, is besides the point. What matters is the brand associated with Amartya Sen, more so his reputation as an intellectual, even if it is among the urban elites, a small but influential subset of the population to which this film speaks to. This seemingly small act of deviousness — in wrongly attributing Sen’s name for a certain kind of, how do I say, “respect” and to be heard? — is the larger politics of Serious Men and a weapon Ayyan chooses (wisely) to wield against a system that has systematically shut the doors and windows, and denied opportunities for Dalits, who continue to live in the dark, making love to their spouses/partners in their suitcase-sized houses, in slums.
Serious Men
Cast: Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Indira Tiwari, Nasser and Aakshath Das
Director: Sudhir Mishra
Storyline: A Dalit and a Tamil settled in Mumbai, Ayyan Mani cooks up a story about his school-going son Adi — who has hearing impairments — being a scientific genius without realising the cascading effect it will have on them and on society.
Serious Men opens with the narrator talking about his favourite song, which has the lyrics to the effect of: “The umbrella of night has so many holes. Who poured acid on it…is an unsolved mystery.” It is played over loud but cautious moans of a lady having sex with her husband, the narrator and also the protagonist: Ayyan Mani. He does not know much about the song or what it means, except that it applies to all situations. And the song is played exactly thrice, or three decisive moments in Ayyan’s life: when he was a nobody, when he becomes somebody and when he goes back to being a nobody.

We see Ayyan’s despondency to be somebody. Through a casual exchange with his wife Oja (Indira Tiwari), we not alone get a sense of who he is — a second generation or a 2G Dalit and the first in the family to get access to education — but also his fairly simple worldview. “It takes four generations for someone to do nothing at all,” he says. Ayyan is not the Angry Young Man who wants to change the system; his desires are ordinary and perhaps, fatherly. He hopes his son raises above the system to become a 4G, an urban elite who makes nonsensical presentations like the significance of dotted condoms.
Ayyan is just a “molecule” in this society, but it is his son Adi (Aakshath Das who looks like that boy from Kabhi Alvida Na Kehna) who is the apple of his eye and an atom that causes a chain reaction. He uses Adi to change his status among the privileged or rather “primitive minds” — the words his boss uses as some sort of a slur, apart from the everyday slurs: moron, imbecile and knobhead. Watch out for Ayyan in the scene where Acharya gives a press conference; he becomes the judge to his own court of law.
So, when you have decided to revolt, or perhaps, fool the system and its beneficiaries, how do you devise your plan of action? More importantly, how do you speak to them? Yes, in a language familiar to them: exploitation. Every character inhabiting Serious Men is morally ambiguous, has ulterior motives, and is exploiting one another, either for power or for social status: Acharya needs funds for his lavishly dumb projects to prove the existence of aliens — which might not even stand a chance at science fair. Therefore, he is looting from the Government. Adi’s high school principal, a nun, feels “sorry” for Ayyan’s social-economic background and tries to exploit his situation by offering a quick fix: conversion with the promise of a scholarship. The Bahujan leader and his daughter who find “Ambedkar and Einstein” in Adi are unapologetic in their approach: they need a face for the party and to win the people’s trust for slum redevelopment. Ayyan is already trading his son’s innocence for social status that was denied in the first place. He coaches and prepares his son like a lab rat — the kind Acharya would approve of. The only characters without false intentions are Adi and Oja.
Adi becomes the cynosure of all eyes…he becomes Ayyan’s Amartya Sen. But, how would society believe that a) this boy is indeed a Dalit and b) that talent lies not in colour but in DNA? In a sharp, split-second scene that is both clever and insistent, Adi poses for a photoshoot holding a board that says: “100% Dalit” — the sort of arid humour that runs in Manu Joseph’s columns. You often laugh at the expense of Ayyan and his struggle to break out, but the joke is really on you, on us. Ayyan, too, realises the joke, the circus he has become…he is not just caught in a rabbit hole but a black hole that starts collapsing from the inside.
Based on Manu Joseph’s novel of the same time, Serious Men, as a film, begins to look cluttered in the latter half and you could sense the struggle to give a proper ending to this game of Snakes and Ladders. And the writers (Abhijeet Khuman and Bhavesh Mandalia) could have done away with the Tamil dialogues and Tamil identity that neither are character traits nor add anything, except a once-a-while reminder that the primary characters are Tamil…it could have been about a Mumbaikar and it would have made no difference. Acharya’s hush-hush affair with his secretary is slipped into the film…for what greater good? For Mishra’s part, the film looks too clean to be true, for, the conflicts are simple and the resolutions are much simpler.
Serious Men is well-intentioned and has the frustration and angst and more importantly, the voice of a Dalit. But it lacks the anger you would find in the protagonists of a Pa Ranjith or Nagraj Manjule. Perhaps too primitive, too “English”?
Serious Men will stream on Netflix from October 2

How do The Audience Prefer to Watch a Film ? – OTT vs Cinema Theatres
The debate regarding the direct-to-digital release has witnessed a massive rift in the Hindi film industry.
The debate on whether the cinema halls will lose its charm or who will win the war? OTT v/s Cinema Theatres.
What is the opinion of the audience in general? how would they prefer to watch a film?
Whether like always, first day first show in the theatres or first day first show in the comforts of one’s home?
With cinemas shutting down due to the Covid-19 the demand for OTT platform has risen with more and more producers opting to release their films on digital platform that has more viewership then ever before.  They are looking at skipping the traditional routes hence the debate is over direct-to-digital releases.
Last week the much awaited film ‘ Gulabo Sitabo’ by one of the prominent directors, Shoojit Sircar, Starring Amitabh Bachchan and Ayushman Khurana and  Shakuntala Devi by Anu Menor  were released on the Amazon Prime Video.
Amazon went on to acquire titles of regional films like Jyotika starrer Ponmangal Vandhar along with Four other digital premiers.  The OTT platform which is already popular for many years is speculating several other film releases, including that of Akshay Kumar’ s Laxmmi Bomb, Karan Johar’s Gunjan Saxena-  The Kargil Girl which are in the advance stages of discussion with the digital deals.
The new trend setter of releasing films on OTT has drawn criticism from the theatre owners And film exhibitors across India. While multiplex like INOX chain have spoken of retributive measures in their Statement, PVR has urged producers to hold on to their film releases until theatres are opened after the Corona outbreak is cleared.
Earlier the Tamil Nadu Theatre and Multiplex Owners Association had expressed their disappointment over their huge investments in infrastructure where in CEO Mohan Umrotkar, of Carnival cinemas had created employment for 2 lakh people over 450 operational screens across India. In addition to this, revenue the film exhibition sector also creates employment for over 2 lakh people. If the trend of releasing films on OTT platforms continues, there will be a cause of concern according to Mohan.
The Indian Box Office has generally generated a yearly revenue of Rs.10 to 15,000 crores. With the theatres remaining shut indefinitely, lot of business is lost and the situation gets no help from any Potential earners.
With ‘Gulabo Sitabo’ and ‘Shakuntala Devi’ going live on OTT there is an additional loss of Rs. 100 to 125 Crores. However, CEO Mohan believes that this situation is temporary in an extra ordinary circumstances due to unforeseen pandemic that has taken its toll on the film industry as well as the cinemas. He is confident that once the lockdown is lifted and the normalcy is restored, the industry will be back again with them.
Bollywood has predominantly maintained the eight-week window between the theatrical and the digital Releases and if a film is sold to the OTT one can do nothing about it to stop it in the given situation, says Manoj Desai, executive director of G7 Multiplex, and Maratha Mandir Cinema in Mumbai.
At present we are not sure when the cinemas will open and what measures will be taken. In the given Circumstances, the theatre owners can only wait for the crises to subside to start thinking ahead with their new plans.
While acknowledging the plight of producers, Manoj Desai says there can be no comparison with the theatrical experience which is irreplaceable. The films being telecasted on OTT were actually made for theatrical view like Sooryavanshi which won’t go for the digital release and will wait for the cinemas to Resume.
Last month the Hindi films Bamfaad and Ateet were released on ZEE5 and the the platform premiered, Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s long delayed comedy , Ghoomketu  on May 22nd, 2020.
Since its inception, the goal is to entertain the audience says Aparna Acharekar, the programming Head of ‘ Be Calm Be Entertained’ Initiative.   In addition, they also acquired the rights towards the Blockbuster films across languages and diverse topics.   The contents are however free and on premium.
The digital release of feature films is not a new concept. It always existed when the OTT platforms came to light. According to the 2020 FICCI-EY report around 50 low budget films were released directly on the OTT platforms across India in 2019 alone.  Streaming subscriptions the advent of the OTT began as it saw small films were less saleable names while OTT also guaranteed a wider audience for these small filmmakers. It also meant they could save on the prints and advertising costs.  As a theatrical release is quite expensive affair with the major content acquisition lies with the film distribution company.
While the trend has helped the cinema to survive, it has also created implications for the larger Businesses such as producing a film or for the theatre owners and affecting big businesses.
With people banned from going to cinemas and cinemas all shut across most parts of India, the reopening of the theatres is indefinite. Though Mohan Desai is expecting the cinema business to resume this July with a partial sitting capacity in the theatres, after sanitization, wearing protective masks, it is not clear if the audience would like to take a risk or the cinema goers are now used to being cooped up at home and watch a film on the OTT in the comforts of their home for health and safety reasons. That too if the number of positive cases is reduced across the country.
Film shootings have also been indefinitely postponed globally hence the OTT-Theatrical rift is felt Across the supply chain. There are no film promotions like it was earlier, no lavish affairs which have now been reduced to webinars and telephonic interviews, online video conferencing, marketers are forced to take a turn towards benefiting the digital media firms who are operating through the crisis.
Digital Media consumption has increased and people are glued to their devices says Gautam Be Thakker The chief employee of Every media Technologies.
A digital release is a different ball game altogether, the digital distribution to the well established OTT platforms has several advantages like content exclusivity, no pre-existing theatrical relationship.
Every film release has had a unique strategy to stand out on the film streaming on various platforms.
Yet there is a segment,  a huge one that still continues to say that they love going to the theatres and that Is something they are looking forward to and hope it will never change.
The truth is that we all enjoy going to the theatres which is something that will never change.”
The ongoing Covid-19 lockdown has created its impact in almost all sectors and all businesses across the World. however, it is believed that the most hit industry is the film industry and television industry. As several producers of films have decided to release their films on OTT Platforms as they are not Expecting the theatres to open anytime soon.  Hence the OTT vs theatres debate continues to the Unforeseen future.
The PVR cinemas a few days back made a grand announcement that through a video and their messaging, that their theatres are all gearing up for the movie lovers with all the safety measures to invite their clients, the movie lovers with the equipment’s and proper social distancing, sanitizing etc. However the government hasn’t granted permission for the movie theatres to open therefor no movie releases are expected in the near future in the theatres.
A few months before the corona lockdown, Mukesh Ambani the owner of Jio mobiles had promised that the using the device the audience and viewers would be able to watch the cinema first day first show in the comfort zone of their own home. During that time nobody had even thought that it would soon come to effect.  It’s like God’s Verdict. How did Mukesh Ambani dream of this and Jio benefit out of this new project they had in mind to adopt this during the pandemic spread in the country.
The new technology is here to stay for a very very long time and has its own charm that is totally a new experience for the movie lovers. The filmmakers are always in a dilemma whether to release the film on OTT or wait for its release in the theatres.
It is no surprise that the film industry has been affected the most and have sunk into huge debuts during this period.  Hence producers and filmmakers are thinking twice and taking quick decisions to release films on various OTT platforms like the recent Angrezi Medium, Gulabo Sitabo and many that followed soon after.  Including Alia Bhatt’s Sadak2, Sushant Singh Rajput’s Dil Bechara, and many others while the audience are lapping it all up and eager to watch it on the OTT channel.  Senior actors like Ajay Devgn and Akshay Kumar have also decided that they are not going to stay behind and have announced their films on the Hot star, another OTT platform a few days ago.
Our nation, a 135 to 140 plus crore population not everybody can afford to watch films in cinemas even Before the lockdown.  Also one noticed the films theatres did not run a film for many weeks. Sometimes a film hardly ran in the theatres and did badly at the box office collections. So the OTT platform is one of its kind when the films are on the platform for a long time streaming, trending for the audience. it is better than the pirated videos that people were crazy about and would have a parallel cinema illegally, with the distribution of the pirated videos of the films which were sold at a meagre sum of Rs. 100 per cassette.
Technology has advanced considerably since then and brought about the change and this change is expected to stay for a very long time to come.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s shocking death has brought his fans across demanding his last film Dil Bechara to be released in theatres for it’s the last film of their favourite star, however it is said the film is being released on Hot Star under the movement, #sushantonbigscreen. Time will tell whether the audience prefer the big screen or the OTT.
Judging the collections will be by gone days now when 100 to 330 crore fights may no longer exist or stay true. As streaming sites unlike YouTube does not show the number of viewers.
Abhishek Bachchan has expressed his views on the subject by stating that there is less judgement in a web than in a cinema who is also on the verge of making digital debut in the show, ‘Breathe”Into the Shadows’.  The actor says there is less pressure and one does not have to worry about the box office Figures.  However, people will still judge his performance which in turn will be reverted to film critics and largely his next web film will largely depend on his popularity in this first digital film that is going to be released soon.
