Mark Tobey, New York Skyline, 1954. Gouache and tempera on paper laid down on paperboard.
Tobey had a major influence on Jackson Pollock. A Pollock biographer wrote that Tobey's "dense web of white strokes, as elegant as Oriental calligraphy, impressed Jackson so much that in a letter to Louis Bunce he described Tobey, a West Coast artist, as an 'exception' to the rule that New York was 'the only real place in America where painting (in the real sense) can come thru.'"
Went to New York City recently. It was very photogenic in general, but this might be the most epic pic of it I took this trip.
Taken from across the river in NJ.
10.) My first sweater of a city skyline. Made it after 9/11 as a tribute and as a reaction to the news, inspired by images from the paper on 9/12 that I purchased. Picture taken in 2017. I have no plans on making this sweater into a T-shirt because my other New York skyline sweater is available as one. #sambarsky #sambarskysweaters #sambarskyknitter #knit #knitting #knitter #art #artist #sweater #intarsia #handknit #newyork #newyorkcity #newyorkskyline #NY #NYC #newyorkcityskyline #hudson #hudsonriver
Nostalgic cinematic montage of the Twin Towers of World Trade Center in New York City, U.S. It's so beautiful to see these gigantic towers. For me, the Twin Towers are the most impressive and astonishing buildings I have ever known. These towers had some magic around them, love it.
