New World Makati Welcomes the Mid-Autumn Festival with Handcrafted Mooncakes From Jasmine
As part of the Mid-Autumn Festival, Jasmine at New World Makati Hotel celebrates the auspicious occasion with a delectable assortment of mooncakes perfect for gifts to loved ones and friends. These mooncakes come in four flavors – Red Bean with Double Yolk, Red Lotus with Double Yolk, White Lotus with Double Yolk, and Five Kernel (watermelon seeds, sesame seeds, pumpkin seeds, walnuts and peanuts) – encased in gold, yellow, and brown packaging with an embossed gold stamping. These come in a box of two at P1,488 and a box of four at P2,488 nett. Jasmine is offering a discount of 10% for Club Epicure members and for bulk orders of 50 boxes or more. Pick-up of orders is until September 30, 2021.
Mooncakes represent not only a cultural but a historical significance for the Chinese, particularly the country’s victory over the Mongols. After many attempts to invade China, the Mongols succeeded in the 13th Century, with Kublai Khan establishing the Yuan dynasty. A rebel leader’s confidant, Liu Bowen, suggested a rebellion coincide with the Mid-Autumn Festival and he secured permission for mooncakes to be distributed to each of the Chinese residents as a blessing to the longevity of the Mongol emperor. Within each cake was a piece of paper saying “kill the Mongols on the 15th day of the eighth month.” As Mongols didn’t eat mooncakes, their plan succeeded and the Mongols were overthrown. Jasmine in New World Makati Reopens With All-You-Can-Eat Dimsum Promo
New World Makati Hotel’s renowned Chinese dining destination, Jasmine, has finally reopened with a signature array of all-you-can-eat dim sum dishes for lunch and dinner for only P1,088 (Thursday and Friday) and P1,288 (Saturday and Sunday) nett per person. Guests can feast to their heart’s delight on favorites such as barbecued Honey roasted pork, steamed “Har gao” shrimp dumplings, “Xiao long bao” Shanghainese pork dumplings and much more in a secure location following all the standard health and safety protocols.
I last dined at Jasmine earlier this year, just a few weeks before Manila went into lockdown due to the pandemic (Read: Unlimited Yum Cha at Jasmine in New World Makati). That’s why I was happy to find out that the restaurant has now reopened for dine-in guests with their revamped unlimited dimsum promotion.
My friends and I gathered for an intimate and socially distanced lunch last Saturday at one of Jasmine’s elegant private dining rooms. This is a better option for small groups but you can also sit at the main dining area with its spacious tables and sofas. Temperature checks and health declaration forms are required before entering the hotel, with proper face masks and face shields also a must. You also get two sets of chopsticks on your table, one used as your serving chopsticks and one used for eating.
The Har Gao shrimp dumplings is still my favorite dimsum item so this is what I attacked first. I can honestly consume 4 to 6 baskets of hakao by myself, but I had to let my other friends have some too.
These colorful Vegetable Dumplings were quite interesting too. The delicate combination of carrots, corn, mushrooms, and broccoli were a fresh and lighter option from the usual pork or shrimp dumplings.
Another popular dimsum item is the Steamed Pork Spareribs in black beans sauce. This is always a standard order in any dimsum feast, together with the Siomai and Xiao Long Bao.
For those who like fried and baked items, order the Barbecued Pork Puffs with its flakey layers and savory barbecued pork filling. The Pan Fried Radish Cake is another item I always order at dimsum restaurants.
You also can’t go wrong with the Honey Roasted Pork barbecue which would go well with a cup of their Yeung Chow Fried Rice. A selection of noodle, and congee dishes are likewise available such as Pork and Century Egg Congee, and Braised E-fu Noodles with vegetables.
But what I really like about Jasmine’s All You Can Eat Dimsum is that is also comes with a lot of main courses. Other unlimited dimsum offerings in the city just have one or two main courses with limited servings, but Jasmine has a lot more. Some of the restaurant’s best-selling main courses are included such as the Sweet and Sour Pork and the Wok-fried “Kong Pao” Chicken with cashew nuts.
My favorite dish that afternoon was the Deep-Fried Sole Fillet with Salted Egg. These are very crispy fish fillets that really taste so good especially with the salted egg flavor. We had to order a second round of these because everybody loved it.
Other healthier main courses would be the Braised Bean Curd with Black Mushroom and the Lettuce Bok Choi. The best part is that you can order as many as you want of these main courses together with your dimsum items, without any limitations.
But that’s not all. Aside from the unlimited main courses, guests can opt to add more of Jasmine’s signature dishes to complete the bountiful meal. The Crispy Pork Belly (P240) is one of those savory items that could complete your Cantonese dimsum experience. Other options include Soy chicken (P240), Pan-fried beef tenderloin (P280), and Sliced beef with vegetables in oyster sauce (P280) which are offered at an add-on price.
My good friend, Richie Zamora, a.k.a. The Pickiest Eater in the World, was even inspired to update his famous Coke Zero meme with this fabulous dimsum feast. He still thinks that he will not get fat as long as he drinks Coke Zero.
Then there was a special surprise waiting for me! Everyone suddenly burst into a Happy Birthday song as this turned out to be an advanced birthday party for me as well. I received a special chocolate cake from New World Makati Hotel which I of coursed shared with my hubby.
I would like to thank Francine Arias, Marketing Communications Manager of New World Makati Hotel for always being such a gracious host. Jasmine is now open for lunch and dinner from Thursdays to Sundays (except for Sunday dinner) so you now have more chances to avail of this delicious promotion. I’m actually planning to go back to New World Makati, this time to try their Cafe 1228 new normal buffet setup. See you again soon!

Unlimited Yum Cha at Jasmine in New World Makati
The holidays may be over but that doesn’t mean we can't enjoy a delicious feast any day of the week. It was already a few days into the new year and I was starting to crave for some delicious hakaw and dim sum. I remembered that my friend had been inviting me for a leisurely lunch in Makati since last November, but the Christmas rush got in the way. Now that our schedules were more relaxed, we finally had time to catch up over a medley of Cantonese dim sum specialties at Jasmine in New World Makati.
Jasmine can be found on the second floor, just above the hotel’s elegant lobby. It features authentic Cantonese dishes in an exquisite five-star setting that elegantly fits the exceptional quality of its offerings. It was awarded by Philippine Tatler as one of the Top 20 Restaurants in 2017 and is constantly one of the most sought after dining destinations in the city.
The restaurant comes with a chic Chinese Art Deco design that brings a feeling of modern opulence for its guests. The main dining area has big round tables and wide spaces which can accommodate plenty of diners during its lunch and dinner services. They also have private dining rooms to fit every occasion (Read: Grab Some Crab at Jasmine in New World Makati).
For this afternoon’s get together, we took advantage of Jasmine’s Unlimited Yum Cha offer which is available for lunch daily for only P988 nett per person on weekdays and P1388 nett on weekends. The Yum Cha menu doesn’t just have dimsum but also comes with soup, rice, and desserts. When you dine on weekends, it also gives you an additional choice of one main dish. This is one of the best value-for-money promotions in the city, especially for dim sum lovers like me since I tend to eat and order a lot of items. We started with the Hot and Sour Soup to warm our bellies.
Jasmine’s Pork Xiao Long Bao “Nan Xiang” are bigger than the usual xiao long baos I have tried. Make sure to sip the broth and eat the dumplings right away while it is still hot. All of Jasmine’s dimsum are prepared in-house daily so expect them to be fresh and of high quality.
Instead of ordering the usual pork siomai, we opted for the Beef Shao Mai. This is a meatier and more flavorful version of the popular street side snack.
My favorite dimsum is actually the Shrimp Dumplings or Har Gao. This is always the first item I order whenever I go to a Chinese restaurant or dine at a buffet. I love how these big dumplings are generously filled with juicy shrimp.
We also had some Barbecued Pork Steamed Bun or otherwise known as siopao. This basket is a bit filling so make sure to share it around the table. The Taosi Spare Ribs are also a good option if you want some meat to go with your order of Yang Chow fried rice.
There are also a couple of baked and fried items on the menu like their signature Wagyu Beef Mango Roll. Wrapped inside this crispy puff pastry are tender pieces of wagyu beef and slices of mango which give it a sweet and savory taste. It’s definitely not your usual dim sum and I highly recommend ordering this.
Other items you can enjoy include the Pan-Fried Pork Dumplings and the Barbecued Pork Puff. There are so many items to choose from on the menu, so I usually try to taste as many as I can.
Another one of my favorites is the Pan-Fried Radish Cake which I always order. On the other hand, the Seafood Crab Stick Roll is a very interesting item that is crunchy on the outside but soft and tender on the inside.
For dessert, we both went for the Mango Cream with Sago which is always a great and refreshing way to end a bountiful meal. For those looking for a place to celebrate the upcoming lunar new year, Jasmine is offering a Chinese New Year Yum Cha lunch on January 25 and 26, 2020 for P1988 per person. So book your seats now before it’s too late, or just head over to Jasmine any other day and enjoy their daily Unlimited Yum Cha selection.

Al Fresco Happy Hour at The Lounge of New World Makati
The global pandemic has really changed the way we work and relax. Gone are the days when we can all cramp inside those dark and stuffy bars and restaurants after office hours. These days, it’s important to look for safe locations with good ventilation and proper social distancing. That’s why I was happy to find out that The Lounge at New World Makati has already reopened, with their al fresco dining area offering a secure and refreshing venue.
The Lounge is a cozy hotel bar located on the ground floor lobby of New World Makati. This used to be a very vibrant and lively location before the pandemic, but with the limit on guests and dining capacity, seats are now placed further apart to ensure proper physical distancing measures.
This photo was taken last February 2020 during Valentine’s Day (Read: Valentine’s Day Staycation at New World Makati). I remember enjoying their unlimited sparkling wine happy hour that evening with Francine Arias, Marketing Communications Manager of New World Makati Hotel. So when Fran invited us to come and visit The Lounge again post-pandemic, we really wanted to see how it successfully evolved with the times.
The main highlight of The Lounge now is its outdoor dining area. This refreshing location is the perfect spot to relax and enjoy happy hour drinks with a couple of friends or family. It is open daily from 10:00am to 9:00pm so you can drop by any time of the day.
Imagine having your cocktails with this gorgeous view! The indoor areas of The Lounge is where most guests used to stay before, but now al fresco is the place to be. I can’t believe that this hidden urban oasis is just across the Greenbelt shopping center and right in the middle of the busy Makati business district.
You can even stroll around the koi pond while feeling the gentle summer breeze. We have been cooped up inside our homes for quite a while, so spending time outside in a safe and healthy environment is a luxury nowadays.
Guests need to follow all safety protocols when entering the hotel, including a temperature check, filling out the health declaration, and wearing face masks and face shields. We came right on time for the sunset and happy hour! The Lounge usually offers happy hour specials and discounts on selected items, so check out their Facebook and Instagram pages to find out these promotions.
The menu can be viewed using any QR Code reader on your phone. The hotel also offer free wifi, but don’t worry if you don’t have a QR Code app, because you can still ask for the physical menu.
The summer is still sizzling hot, so these new Tropical Cocktails at The Lounge serve as the best companions for only P495 nett each. My favorite was the Jack n’ Coco which is made with jackfruit, plantation rum, and coconut syrup. It actually feels like you’re sipping on a Jonas fruit shake while relaxing in Boracay Island.
They are also featuring the Piñanutsa, a tropical cocktail composed of tepache, Plantation Rum, and sugarcane. This is a sweet drink that caters more to the Filipino palate.
Then there is the colorful Pink Lady. This pretty glass comes with a combination of Kettle One Vodka, pomelo skin-infused syrup, and pomelo pulp. It’s unique pomelo flavor is very seldom encountered in the bar so you will really feel like you’re in a beach resort with this in your hand.
Of course, The Lounge also offers its regular lineup of Classic Cocktails like the Whiskey Sour, Cosmopolitan, Negroni, Mojito, and more. Wines, beers, freshly squeezed juices, shakes, sodas, coffee and tea are also available.
To accompany these delightful drinks, The Lounge at New World Makati is also presenting some new savory items on their menu beginning this month. Let’s start with the Prawn Soft Roll which is their own delicious version of the lobster roll. These creamy prawn cutlets sit on a lovely brioche bun and are topped with fresh herbs and salsa. The prawns are oozing with flavors and just pop in your mouth with every bite!
My favorite that afternoon was the Bikini Sandwich with Jamon Serrano. This sandwich looks so simple but its combination of cheese and tasty Jamon Serrano really works so well.
Those with a meatier appetite can go for the Sliders with its beefy trio of bite-sized burgers. They may be smaller than your usual burger but they do pack quite a punch with their thick and juicy beef patties combined with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, onions, and pickles.
The best dish you can pair with your happy hour drinks is definitely the Salpicao. This indulgent bar chow comes full of garlicky flavors with its generous serving of beef cubes and mushrooms.
Aside from the regular menu at The Lounge, guests can also order selected items from Jasmine, the hotel’s signature Cantonese restaurant on the second floor. There’s no need to go upstairs because you can order then from The Lounge. I ordered my favorite dish from Jasmine, the steamed “Har Gao” shrimp dumplings. One basket was not enough, so I had two!
Other signature dishes from Jasmine include the Crispy Pork Belly and the Barbecued Pork Puffs which I always get when I visit Jasmine for their All You Can Eat Dimsum promotion on weekends. It’s truly the best of both worlds as you can enjoy all these items from The Lounge while relaxing in a safe and charming environment. Cheers!

New World Makati Hotel Heralds the Yuletide with a Silver Tree Lighting Spectacle on its 25th Anniversary
New World Makati Hotel welcomed the holidays with a Christmas tree lighting ceremony on November 26, 2019. The event was graced by guest of honor Makati Mayor Abby Binay, hotel executives Regional Vice President and General Manager Marcel van Mierlo and Director of Sales & Marketing Jann Delgado, and the evening’s host, television personality Pia Guanio-Mago, with her husband Steeve and daughters Scarlet and Brooklyn.
As New World Makati Hotel proudly celebrates its 25th anniversary, the 25-ft tall Christmas tree was adorned in stunning silver and white holiday ornaments to highlight its milestone year. Leading up to the most awaited part of the night, the audience was serenaded by the hotel’s beneficiary - SOLV Foundation Children’s choir – as they sang a medley of classic Christmas carols: “Joy To The World”, “Away In A Manger”, and “Bituin”.
Pia’s daughters led the countdown along with the mayor and hotel executives and moments after the switch button was pressed, the towering tree of silver, white, and gold was finally lit, signaling the beginning of holiday festivities at New World Makati Hotel. Male classical and pop group Opus One then came down the lobby’s staircase singing “It’s The Most Wonderful Time of The Year” as guests looked on at the sparkling tree.
The SOLV Foundation Children’s Choir were handed sweet Christmas Santa treats by General Manager **Marcel van Mierlo **as a token of appreciation for their endearing performance. A party at the hotel will be done in their honor later in December for all 45 children as well as volunteers at SOLV Foundation. A portion of the hotel’s proceeds for the same month will be donated to their foundation, a non-profit organization that cares for street children in Barangay Palanan in Makati, providing them with a home and quality education.
The program concluded with an encore performance by Opus One – with a medley of English and Filipino Christmas songs and ending with their rendition of “Better World”. To help raise more donations for the SOLV Foundation and in celebration of its silver year, New World Makati Hotel is holding an ongoing Holly Jolly Raffle, giving away 25 exciting experiences and prizes such as luxurious stays at New World hotels in Asia with premium airfare for two, two roundtrip tickets to Tokyo, Japan, the latest Apple gadgets – iPhone 11, Apple Watch Series 5, and AirPods, as well as Belo Skin treatments worth P5,000. Promo runs from December 1-31, 2019, and a minimum spend of P5,000 entitles the guest to one raffle ticket. For information and reservations, guests may call New World Makati Hotel at 8811-6888 or follow the hotel’s social media accounts at www.facebook.com/NewWorldMakatiHotel and on Instagram.com/NewWorldMakati.
