Overhaul Delays for USS George Washington, USS John C. Stennis Partially Due to Unknown Steam Turbine Damage
Extensive delays to the mid-life refueling and complex overhauls of two nuclear-powered aircraft carriers were due to damage to the steam turbines that power the ship, USNI News has learned. According to Naval Sea Systems Command, “significant damage” to the generators aboard both USS George Washington (CVN-73) and USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74) added unplanned work that was discovered after both carriers arrived at HII’s Newport News Shipbuilding for maintenance.
Every mid-life refueling and overhaul, “work package has planned inspections and routine refurbishment of the eight [turbine generators]; however, inspections for both George Washington and John C. Stennis revealed one generator on each ship with significant damage that resulted in unplanned growth work, which contributed to schedule extensions on both ships,” reads the statement from NAVSEA.
The Nimitz-class carriers mid-life overhauls are scheduled for four years, but Washington took almost six years while Stennis is set to take five and a half, USNI News reported last month.

Elements of Qatar's land, naval and air forces participated in the exercise. The goal of the emirate of Qatar was for all military personnel from the participating countries to gain experience on the ground and strengthen international relations through cooperation in various missions.
“This exercise provided greater exposure to our allies in the Extended Middle East, facilitating advanced training and integration. The small deployment of specialized pilots and engineers provided 100% exercise mission completion rates and the opportunity to work closely with international allies was invaluable," said Squadron Leader Hodgkinson, Commander of Squadron XI (F). "Squad XI (F) Squadron, like the rest of the Typhoon Force, is ready to project air combat around the world. We completed the Bersama Lima Exercise in Malaysia and then returned to the Middle East for this exercise, reflecting the agility and resilience that the squadron and aircraft offer".

Everyone needs to be fired/step down... The Board, Principal, Security, and the Parents Arrested. If that child brought bullets the day prior and there was no call to the parents to ban that child from returning without a psychological evaluation, the school is not doing it’s job.  The teacher should sue everyone where liable including the NRA.  If a minor can’t drink liquor under the law they should not have knowledge of a deadly weapon... if parents wish to do so every parent/guardian must sign a parental consent form to the state.

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. — The mother of a 6-year-old boy who shot and wounded his teacher in Virginia has been formally arrested on charges of child neglect and failing to secure her handgun, police announced Thursday.
The Newport News Police Department released a booking photo of the woman, 25, and a brief statement that said she turned herself in at the local jail. She was released from custody after posting a $5,000 bond and has a status hearing scheduled Friday in Newport News Circuit Court, said James Ellenson, her attorney.
“She is nervous and scared because she has never been charged before, but holding up well,” Ellenson wrote in an email Thursday.
Authorities had announced Monday that Deja Taylor was being charged with felony child neglect and a misdemeanor charge of endangering a child by reckless storage of a firearm.
Her arrest comes more than three months after police say her son shot and wounded first-grade teacher Abby Zwerner as she sat at a reading table in her classroom. Police said the child used his mother’s gun, which was legally purchased.
Zwerner filed a $40 million lawsuit against the school system last week, accusing school officials of gross negligence and of ignoring multiple warnings from teachers and others that the boy had taken a gun to school that day.
The city prosecutor’s office said Tuesday that it is investigating whether the “actions or omissions” of any school employees could lead to criminal charges.
The January shooting at Richneck Elementary has rattled Newport News, a shipbuilding city of about 185,000 people near the Chesapeake Bay.
Police Chief Steve Drew has repeatedly characterized the shooting as “intentional.” He said there was no warning and no struggle before the child pointed the gun at Zwerner and fired one round, striking her in the hand and chest.
Zwerner, 25, hustled her students out of the classroom before being rushed to the hospital, where she stayed for nearly two weeks.
The felony neglect charge filed against the boy’s mother is punishable by up to five years in prison. The misdemeanor charge of recklessly storing a firearm is punishable by up to one year in jail.
Ellenson has said previously that she has no criminal record. He has also said that her gun was secured on a top shelf in her closet and had a trigger lock.
The family has said the boy has an “acute disability” and was under a care plan that included his mother or father accompanying him to class every day. The week of the shooting was the first when a parent was not in class with him, the family said.

Of course the Virginia legislature's solution to the problem is to make the life of students more difficult rather than removing access to guns.

A Brief History of USS FORRESTAL
The FORRESTAL story began well before the ship herself was born. In the closing months of World War II, Admiral Mark Mitscher made the first recorded suggestion for an aircraft carrier with the general characteristics of the FORRESTAL class. On 12 July 1951, the Navy announced that Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock Company had been awarded a contract to build CVA-59, the "Worlds First Super Aircraft Carrier." CVA-59 would be named FORRESTAL in honor of the late James Vincent Forrestal who served as Assistant Secretary of the Navy, Secretary of the Navy, and, finally, as the first Secretary of Defense. USS FORRESTAL’s nickname would be "First in Defense." The keel for this great ship was laid on 14 July 1952, and within 30 months USS FORRESTAL was launched. In 1952 USS FORRESTAL would be the largest vessel ever constructed. She would displace 60,000 tons, be 1,039 feet long, and have a flight deck width of 252 feet. From keel to mast she equaled the height of a twenty-five story building. Within her many decks she would carry the latest technologies and crew comforts. Her huge voids and compartments would hold more food, fuel, and stores than any other naval vessel. She is a sight to behold being the "World’s First Super Aircraft Carrier."
