THIRD PERSON’S POV:

*December 1, ____*

In a large airport in Copenhagen, a young lady with long (h/c) hair was standing near the entrance, with her suitcase and handbags with her. She tucked her hair behind her ear, and looked around nervously. 

“I hope brother didn’t forget about picking me up today…” She sighed. Right as she turned around to take a cab, a sudden yell that could be heard from miles away caught her attention.

“YO SIS, I’M OVER HERE!!” Screamed a man with spiky blonde hair which resembled a pineapple.

“Mathias you douche, I thought you had forgotten about me!” (Y/n) smiled, running up to her big brother.

“Awww You didn’t really think that, (n/n)! I’m the King of Northern Europe and the King of being the Best big brother ever!” He smiled, enveloping his sister in a hug. 

“Sorry. I was just very worried, I haven’t seen you in so long! And well I wasn’t sure if you’d recognize me, or if you were too busy with your own things and schedule, and-” She was cut off by Mathias flicking her forehead.

“Sis, lemme tell you one thing. I am the awesome king, and I have time for all of my subjects! Especially for my baby sister, Min prinsesse!” 

The siblings laughed, and got into the car.

“So sis, I have amazing news! You’re gonna meet the guys!!” Mathias explained, getting into the driver’s seat.

“Big brother, I’ve already met Gilbert and Alfred.” (Y/n) chuckled.

“Oh not them, I was talking about the other Nordics! I can’t wait to introduce my amazing little sister! And, I bet Norge would be soooo jealous that I have a sibling that calls me big brother!” He grinned.

“The other Nordics?”

“Yeah! I’m sure they’re all gonna love ya!”

(Y/n) gulped. She was very nervous to meet them. Her brother always talked about them over the phone, but never met them face-to-face.

As the two siblings entered the house, Mathias grinned and shouted “HEY GUYS, THE KING OF NORTHERN EUROPE IS HOME!!!”

(Y/n) didn't even flinch, already used to her brother's loud voice. 

“For heaven's sake don't you know how to be quiet, you Dane?” A blonde man with violet eyes and a cross clip on his hair replied in a monotone voice.

“But Norge, This is no time to be quiet! I have a super important guest to introduce you guys too!!” Mathias grinned.

“I hope whoever he is isn't another version of you.” Lukas replied.

“I hope he isn't deaf by now from all the screaming..” A boy with white hair and blue eyes mumbled.

“Aww, don't be so down you guys! I hope he's a nice guy! Right, Mister Sweden?” Another blonde boy piped in.

A very very tall blonde boy with green eyes and glasses nodded in agreement.

“Actually, I'm a girl...” (Y/n) awkwardly replied, making her presence known, and all five men turned their heads in her direction.

“Guys, this is my Lillesøster, Greenland! Also known as (Y/n) Køhler, the Princess of Northern Europe!” Mathias said, in a pose practically saying ‘Come look at my beautiful sister's beauty!’

(Y/n) awkwardly waved and chuckled, slowly and subtly making her way to Mathias to hide behind him. She wasn't used to people staring at her.

“Haloo, I'm Finland! But you can call me Tino! The one with the floating curl is Norway, the one with the puffin is Iceland, and this over here is Mister Sweden!” The short blonde one (pls don't kill me, idk how else to describe him they're all blonde) explained.

(Y/n) peeked her head out from behind her brother's back and nodded. “My brother talks of you guys a lot, he's also taught me your human names.”

Tino grinned and walked over to her, extending his hand out. “Perfect! I hope we all get along really well!”

(Y/n) meekly took his hand and shook it, smiling. “I hope we do too.” 

Tino cupped her face in his hands, and pulled her closer to him smiling. “You’re so cute!! I hope we become very close! Do you like baking? Maybe we can hang out later and make some cookies!”

(Y/n) smiled and nodded. “I do, that would be very nice!”

The moment was ruined, as Mathias took his sister back and brought her to Berwald.

“And this over here is Sweden! He’s another one of my best buddies.” He grinned, as Berwald nodded.

“Hello.” (Ya sorry Idk how to do his accent. So imma type it normally.)

“God dag, Mister Sweden!”

“Just Sweden is fine.”

She then shyly approached Iceland. Finally gathering the courage to speak, she spoke. “Your eyes are beautiful.” (Y/n) gazed at Emil's purple eyes. 

Emil, taken aback at the compliment, slightly blushed. “Thanks, yours are too.”

The two were silent for a bit until Mathias broke it. The silence, not the two.

“God dag (Good Day - Norwegian), I’m Norway. Iceland’s big brother.” Lukas interrupted, extending a hand out to her. 

(Y/n) politely shook it, and couldn’t get her gaze off him. The way he spoke was intriguing, and something about him just seemed… magical.

‘Her hands are so soft…’ Lukas thought to himself as a small unnoticeable blush made its way to his face.

(Y/n) and Lukas stood still for a moment, hands still held together. That was, until Mathias cleared his throat. “Hey Norge, you there? You’ve been touching my sister for more than 5 seconds.”

“It’s just a handshake, you dane.” Lukas rolled his eyes, retracting his hand. The two boys started glaring at each other, and Tino had to step in.

“Hey guys, why don’t we go out and prepare for Christmas! We should get christmas ornaments, a star, oh!! And some baking supplies for tomorrow!” Tino grinns, bringing the now bickering duo (Mathias and Lukas), and Berwald. Forgetting (Y/n) and Emil.

“So… Do we go after them or just stay here?” (Y/n) asked him.

“No, it’s better to stay out of it. Why don’t we do something while waiting instead?” Emil sighs.

“Mmm, why don’t ya define that ‘something’, eh Icey?” The puffin on his shoulder squawked, quite suggestively. 

“Shut up.” The white-haired boy hisses, to which (Y/n) giggles.

“Your puffin can talk?” She asked.

“I sure can, missy! The name’s Mr. Puffin!” Mr. Puffin squawked once more, but this time bowing with his wings.

Emil then cleared his throat. “Umm, if you’re a country how come we haven’t seen you in World Meetings before?”

“I’m not an independent country. I’m still one of big brother’s territories, and rely on him.” (Y/n) replied, scooting over closer to him on the sofa. 

“Oh, right. I’m sorry I forgot.” He said bashfully, turning his head. 

“Hmm, what is your favourite snack?” She asked.

“H-huh?” Emil questioned.

“You don’t have to answer if you don’t want to, I just maybe wanted to get to know you better.” The girl said to the blushing boy.

“Well, I like licorice. What about you?” He asked.

“Wow, licorice is cool! For me, I like (f/f) the most!” She replied.

The two kept talking as time passed by quickly, and (Y/n) had fallen asleep on Emil’s shoulder. His face went blushing red.

“Ooooh Icey, why don’t ya kiss your princess awake with a true love’s kiss?” Mr. Puffin teasingly said.

“Eww no, I can just carry her to her new room you know.” Emil huffed, rolling his eyes as he picked the girl up bridal style.

As he lay her on the new fluffy bed and tucked her in, he sat down beside her and caressed her soft face. Not knowing what came over him, he placed her a kiss on the forehead and left.

“Goodnight, (Y/n).” He smiled softly.

Okay So.... I wrote three chapters of this at the end of last year.... they’re all really rough drafts tho, and I haven’t had the time or energy to give them even a simple read through, which, when coupled with my theory of ‘Writer’s Block? Just Write Shitty Stuff Until It Goes Away Then Edit Later’ makes this a wild ride.

Enjoy I suppose.

If y’all like, I may edit and write more chapters.

Also, if anyone has a title idea, I wouldn’t be opposed to suggestions.

Úgy vártam, mint a messiást, mivel ezer éve (értsd: EZER ÉVE) nem voltam semmilyen koncerten és Annekét egyébként is jobban szeretem még a krumplipürénél is, szóval a csalódottság maximális. Meg hát a tavaszi bolhapiacok is mind elmaradnak...

Ami jó is volt valamennyire, az az új Disney a trollokkal. And it’s all downhill from there... Ilyenek, mint az Invisible Man, a Sonic (kuss! :D), az amiben a Daniel Radcliffe rohangál, meg az a víz alatti szörnyes a melltartóban menekülő fapofa csajjal. El-ké-pesz-tő, hogy mennyi mocskot fosnak ki magukból a filmstúdiók sokmilliárd trillió milliókért. Nem is tudom, miért csináljuk ezt magunkkal.

- Kb egy hét alatt végignéztem az nrk-n a Lik Meg-t, ami egy gyerekdráma, de mivel nrk, fantasztikus. Ezek a norvégok gyerek/tinidrámában nem tudnak hibázni. Oké, néha kicsit uncsi volt a sok snapchat, de a harmadik évadra az is rendeződött. - Szintén nrk: Snow-how, ami egy norvég dokusorozat a skandinávok és a skandináv tél kapcsolatáról. - Még mindig nrk: Sånn er Norge, egyszemélyes tvshow a norvég népről, hogy miért olyanok, amilyenek. Érdekes és érthető volt, csak a faszi volt kicsit too much. - Már egy ideje nézzük az Anne with an E-t, szép lassan beosztva, hogy ne fogyjon el túl hamar. Nagyon jó, tudnék róla áradozni. - Tales from the Loop is egészen jó volt, azt 2 nap alatt daráltuk le. - A Devs most az új ongoing, hát attól nem vagyok elájulva, de egynek elmegy. - Szerencsére nincs több az Amazing Storiesból, a negyedik részen kívül, ami egy közepes X-aktáknak felelt meg, mind vállalhatatlanul ergya volt.

Ugyanazokat, amiket mindig is. A spotifyos obscurityizén 92%-ot kaptam, szóval gondolom akkor az “Obscure.” a megfelelő válasz :D Annyi mostanában a változás, hogy megpróbálok több albumot hallgatni az elmúlt 10 évből, mert 1-2 nagyobb kedvencemen kívül (akik még nem okoztak csalódást) szinte semmi újat nem hallgatok. Ennek hatására a tavalyi Korn pl már lement párszor, az most bejön, meg ezek a mongolok sem rosszak (The HU).

Túl intenzíven épp semmit, mindig nyitva a Backman: Az ember, akit Ovének hívtak, norvégul. Haladok, de lassacskán, amit annak tudok be, hogy már olvastam, és így nem olyan izgi. De egy hete kb 2 nap alatt kiolvastam az Odakint Sötétebbet, ami egészen tetszett. Ajánlottam is volna @lassukmiboolelunk -nek, csak sok benne a pók :)

Alszok, futok, és nem olvasok híreket, de ebben semmi új nincs, így csinálom már rég. Illetve a futást nem olyan rég kezdtem, de most már ténylegesen self-care jellege van.

Na nem volt ez olyan fájdalmas, film-, sorozat- és könyvajánlónak sem olyan rossz. Én nagyon félek bárkit is tagelni, de ám legyen: @txypy, @mevrim, rólatok el tudom képzelni, hogy nem bánjátok :D  Meg persze csinálja meg mindenki, akinek van kedve.

Tour nella città fantasma di Pyramiden, vent’anni dopo l’abbandono. Alle Svalbard, dove Lenin si erge tra gli orsi e tutto è a prova di Armageddon

La porta di legno era chiusa a chiave dall’interno. Quando finalmente ritrovarono la Swedish House, la casa svedese, nell’Isfjorden, alle Svalbard, la casa di legno, la casa più antica delle Spitsbergen, era immersa in un silenzio sinistro. All’esterno, i corpi di cinque cacciatori di foca avvolti in coperte di tela catramata. Era l’estate del 1873 e una nave era partita da Tromso, dalla Norvegia settentrionale, per cercarli. I diciassette cacciatori svedesi avevano fatto sparire le proprie tracce il 14 ottobre 1872, diretti alla “Svenskhuset”. Avevano trovato alloggio e rifugio, nella casa svedese appunto, quei diciassette cacciatori svedesi, scelti tra quelli privi di famiglia, non tutti potevano essere assistiti dall’esploratore Adolf Erik Nordenskiöld, in spedizione nel territorio artico. Ma in quella casa c’era tutto il necessario, cibo, carbone e abiti in abbondanza, per affrontare la lunga notte artica. La porta, su cui è disegnato un divieto d’accesso, viene spalancata e, dentro, si trovano i cadaveri, stecchiti dal gelo, degli svedesi dispersi. In tutto quindici (due saranno trovati anni dopo). Dentro casa, i corpi dei cacciatori sono seduti sulle sedie, sdraiati a letto e sul pavimento, conservano la postura esatta del momento in cui la morte li ha colti e il gelo custoditi. I cadaveri vengono presto bruciati e uno dei misteri delle Svalbard e Jan Mayen passa alla storia come una delle numerose tragedie dello scorbuto, tra i ghiacci polari. Eppure erano già note all’epoca le malattie che potevano colpire gli esploratori e i cacciatori di foche e di orsi. Nel 2008, alcuni medici riescono a riaprire il caso, c’era qualcosa di sospetto in quelle morti, qualcosa di maledetto in quella Swedish House. “Si tratta di avvelenamento da piombo”, ci spiega la giovane guida, un allegro ragazzo siberiano a bordo del piccolo catamarano Aurora Explorer, mentre attraversiamo le fredde acque dell’Isfjorden, diretti a Pyramiden. Mi racconta che la storia della casa svedese è parecchio nota. Mi mostra anche un libro in cui avrei potuto trovare maggiori informazioni, Isfjorden di Kristin Prestvold. La casa svedese è una di quelle storie leggendarie che si possono facilmente scoprire tra queste terre artiche e inospitali. Con la strana sensazione di sapere che non si tratta affatto di leggende. L’avvelenamento da piombo – mi spiega la guida – è stato causato dal cibo intossicato che, lentamente ma inevitabilmente, ha condotto questi robusti e avventurosi svedesi alla morte certa. Non erano morti per la mancanza di vitamina C, ma a causa del piombo utilizzato per sigillare le lattine dei cibi. Una morte forse più inquietante di quella di Roald Amundsen, l’Aquila Bianca della Norvegia, scomparso per sempre e inghiottito dall’Artico mentre andava alla ricerca del suo rivale, amico nemico, Umberto Nobile, il cui dirigibile Italia era naufragato sul pack, a nord est delle Svalbard.

Sulle spedizioni polari, la giovane guida russa mi consiglia di visitare il North Pole Expedition Museum di Longyearbyen, dove lui vive felicemente da quattro anni e dove ritrovo cimeli straordinari, testimonianze dei pionieri dell’Artico, da Nansen a Cook e Peary, fino ai disegni e filmati originali dei dirigibili che hanno raggiunto il Polo, prima il Norge e poi l’Italia e persino dei residui di telai, radio, cordami, libri e documenti di inestimabile valore. Fotografie e lettere, storie di chi ha fatto ritorno e di chi non è mai tornato vivo dal Polo. Come il giovane giornalista Ugo Lago, scomparso a bordo dell’Italia nei cieli dell’Artico. La sua lettera scritta alla vigilia della partenza, dalla grafia dannunziana, non si può leggere senza provare una dolorosa fitta al cuore. “Carissimi papà, mammà e Dora, io tornerò certamente da questo viaggio polare. Se mai non tornassi, e se avete, come avete, fede in Dio e nell’immortalità dell’anima, pensate che il più grande dolore che possiate dare al mio spirito, in cielo, è quello di vedervi disperati. Il vostro dolore tranquillo deve rassegnarsi, se volete sapere la mia anima felice. Questa è la mia più viva preghiera. Vi bacio tutti con affetto eterno Ugo”. La lettera è datata 11 aprile 1928. Il dirigibile su cui viaggiava Ugo Lago, giornalista de Il Popolo d’Italia, scomparve il 25 maggio. Non c’è tenerezza tra questi ghiacci, benché i fiori di cotone inizino a spuntare ad agosto e il papavero artico faccia la sua comparsa breve. La desolazione è sublime, il cielo plumbeo incombe, insieme a scuri gabbiani che attraversano il cielo. C’è persino una scuola e l’asilo qui a Longyearbyen, i bambini sono imbacuccati e con piccoli giubbotti catarifrangenti. Mentre il loro “prato” brullo è circondato dall’alta maglia della rete di recinzione. Non è possibile non fare i conti con gli orsi da queste parti. Chiunque deve sapere che un orso polare potrebbe spingersi fino in paese da un momento all’altro. Quindi tutti girano armati di fucile. All’ufficio postale e in banca non è possibile entrare armati e un cartello con il singolare divieto è incollato alle porte scorrevoli di vetro. Si vede che l’orso non ama la vita civile. Qualche mese fa è successo – racconta sempre la guida – ad una ragazza che stava passeggiando a breve distanza dalla città di Longyearbyen. È stata azzannata. Qui l’orso non ispira una simpatia da circo, ma incute il timore delle belve feroci. In questo fiordo non si vedono altre imbarcazioni, ma tutto intorno sipari di montagne dalla forma triangolare, piramidale, mentre i ghiacci finiscono in mare. Piccoli pezzi di ghiaccio galleggiano in superficie e iniziano a sciogliersi. Si vedono due orsi, a occhio nudo, sulle rocce vicino al ghiacciaio Nordenskiöld, di fronte alla città mineraria abbandonata di Pyramiden. Quando arriviamo al vecchio molo di legno scricchiolante di Pyramiden, saliamo su un vecchio pullman, l’autista russo tiene la sua vecchia pistola sovietica, in un vassoio, vicino alle monete della mancia. Lui è uno dei pochissimi russi che abitano a Pyramiden, uno dei due che vivono qui tutto l’anno. Dodici persone in tutto, russe e ucraine nel periodo del sole di mezzanotte. L’autista vive da decenni in questa città fantasma, sin da prima che venisse abbandonata, ma non possiede le chiavi del vecchio ospedale, dove alcuni dicono che siano racchiusi molti misteri. Ma Pyramiden, Pyramida in russo, è una città mineraria fantasma, quasi al 79° parallelo (N 78°40’), abbandonata nel 1998, dopo il crollo dell’Urss, ma ancora oggi baluardo russo in territorio norvegese. Un’altra causa dell’abbandono fu il disastro aereo del 29 agosto 1996, quando persero la vita un centinaio di abitanti di Pyramiden, dopo lo schianto del volo Vnukovo Airlines nei pressi di Longyerabyen. Una semplice e umile croce di legno ricorda quelle morti. Passeggiando tra le vie deserte di Pyramiden, sembra di vivere dentro il romanzo Dissipatio H.G., di Guido Morselli: la città deserta, scomparsi tutti gli uomini. Ogni cosa è rimasta immobile, si vedono solo aggirarsi animali, volpi artiche come gatti che camminano tra le case, mentre i gabbiani hanno fatto grandi nidi alle finestre, che non si aprono più.

Non tutti gli edifici si possono visitare. Quasi tutti sono chiusi a chiave, sigillati, al riparo dai furti e danneggiamenti. La nostra guida russa, una bella ragazza di nome Anna, ha una rivoltella alla cintura e lo sguardo circospetto. Teme che qualcuno dei visitatori possa rimanere intrappolato nei vecchi edifici sovietici, come è successo a una coppia qualche mese fa. Anna vive qui con il suo fidanzato ed entrambi lavorano per la compagnia russa Grumant, arctic travel company, che organizza spedizioni alle miniere, anche a quelle tuttora in opera e tra i ghiacci di Barentsburg. Sia Pyramiden che Barentsburg erano insediamenti olandesi che furono venduti all’Unione Sovietica nel 1929. Gli anni d’oro delle miniere carbonifere alle Spitsbergen furono tra gli anni ’70 e ’80 quando lavorare alle Svalbard era una piccola fortuna per i sovietici. Un cartello russo, sul muro di mattoni rossi, recita solenne ancora oggi: “In onore del trentesimo anniversario della miniera carbonifera sovietica. Piramida Agosto 1976”. Gli uomini e le donne che lavoravano qui vivevano in edifici separati tra loro, Paris e London, e si sussurra che ci fosse un tunnel sotterraneo che permetteva incontri clandestini. La città fantasma aveva un edificio (ormai non più visitabile) con due piscine per adulti e bambini, con acqua di mare riscaldata, un ospedale ben equipaggiato, l’ufficio postale, un luogo dove mangiare, la Crazy house per far giocare i bambini, una scuola che accoglieva i circa centocinquanta piccoli russi che vivevano qui. C’era una palestra con un campo da basket e da calcio, ben conservata e con le fotografie ancora appese alle pareti che ricordano celebrazioni e intrappolano avvenimenti rilevanti che nessuno dei turisti può riconoscere. Un teatro e addirittura un grande pollaio e una stalla, l’orto dove si coltivava la terra che dava, incredibilmente, grandi frutti (stando alle parole della guida). Un piccolo paradiso agli estremi confini delle terre abitate. Alle finestre degli alloggi femminili, alcuni piccoli sportelli di metallo fungevano da refrigeratori naturali per piccoli utilizzi. Dai soffitti dei palazzi pendono ancora preziosi e importanti lampadari dell’epoca sovietica, nella stanza della musica un pianoforte verticale aperto aspetta il pianista che si è allontanato, “da qualche istante”, lasciando lo spartito aperto sull’ultima nota. Ci sono anche i piatti, una vecchia batteria e diverse pianole sul davanzale della finestra che guardano questa desolazione artica, punteggiata di neve. Ci sono le scale bloccate da una panchina di legno che ormai nessuno sale più, le ringhiere e i corridoi che conducono a stanze e ampi saloni che sono diventati improvvisamente deserti e silenziosi. In un corridoio, una cartina politica del mondo, in cirillico, rende ancora più vasta la grandezza dell’Urss, mentre gli angoli si arricciano in giù. Intorno alle stanze, vicino alle grandi finestre, vasi con vecchie piante ormai rinsecchite e prive d’acqua. Ovunque vestigia russe di una gloria perduta, sepolta tra i ghiacci.

La strada principale era chiamata per un vezzo oggi ridicolo “Champs-Élysées”, mentre il busto di Lenin (quello più a nord del mondo) volge severo lo sguardo dall’alto di una colonna di cemento posta sopra tre gradini. Alle spalle di Lenin, la casa della cultura e dello sport con un campo da pallavolo e una biblioteca e, seguendo il suo sguardo, si vedono i palazzi abbandonati, la lingua cerulea del mar glaciale artico e, a sinistra, il ghiacciaio. Nessuno più si cura di cambiare le lampadine ai lampioni, mentre le aule della scuola, dalle mura rosso acceso e decorate – uno degli edifici più belli e meglio conservati – sembrano abbandonate da poco. Nelle cucine lasciate per sempre, i forni sono spalancati e dentro le loro bocche, come carie nei denti, si è insinuata abbondante la ruggine. Piccoli pezzi d’intonaco si stanno lentamente staccando dal soffitto, mentre un odore appiccicaticcio, tra l’acidulo e il rancido, solletica le narici. Quanti anni saranno passati dall’ultimo pasto cucinato qui? Per quale occasione è stato preparato? C’è anche un albergo nella città abbandonata – dove vivono quasi tutti i pochi abitanti, compresa la nostra guida, un paio vivono in un “garage”, vicino al molo – si chiama Tulpan Hotel e costa un centinaio di euro per notte (all’incirca 1000 corone norvegesi). Chi vuole può passare qualche notte nella città fantasma. La nostra guida ci racconta che molti sono i progetti in campo a Pyramiden, un filmfestival – il più a nord del globo – e alcuni registi americani intendono girare un film e un horror. Il set è già pronto. Anna ci rivela che le piacerebbe vedere, nel cast, George Clooney. Ma qui non c’è nemmeno la TV e neppure la connessione Wi-fi, ci tiene a sottolineare, il loro “internet point” (l’unico posto in cui c’è campo) è vicino al molo e quando ce lo mostra è una postazione, con una vecchia cornetta telefonica. L’impressione più vivida che si ha è quella di camminare tra i fantasmi, di una città fantasma, mentre le parole russe che un tempo qui si udivano sono state sostituite dalla voce alta e querula dei gabbiani che qui nidificano a migliaia. Le persone che vivevano qui e lavoravano alla miniera di carbone ormai potrebbero essere già morte. Il vento increspa le onde, mentre ci allontaniamo dalla visione di Pyramiden, la città fantasma presto viene nascosta da altre montagne piramidali, ma deserte. Quando il fiordo ghiaccia, si può arrivare qui in motoslitta.

Attracchiamo a Longyearbyen, la città più popolosa delle Svalbard, con i suoi 2200 abitanti; la visione di una città che vive ancora dà un certo sollievo. Del resto qui tutto si conserva, tutti i semi di tutte le piante, allo Svalbard Global Seed Vault, il deposito globale di sementi, aperto dieci anni fa, vicino a Longyerbyen, con porte d’acciaio e la struttura in calcestruzzo, a prova di Armageddon e di affamati orsi polari. Nelle terre artiche, non si perde nulla e tutto si conserva, a volte, con l’inevitabile scioglimento dei ghiacci, compare qualche capitolo di una leggenda perduta. Anche al buio delle notti polari, che tra qualche mese faranno piombare Pyramiden in una città fantasma ancora più sinistra, l’aurora boreale renderà più misteriosi e affascinanti questi luoghi estremi. La terra delle Svalbard, scoperte dall’olandese Willem Barents nel 1596 ma battezzate così nel 1194 in lingua islandese, il “litorale freddo”, dove si cacciavano le balene, il cui grasso veniva bollito e messo nei barili. E dove, ancora oggi, si cacciano le foche. Dove, qui più che altrove, la natura mette a dura prova la resistenza fisica e psichica degli uomini. Ma l’unica terra al mondo dove non si può nascere né morire. Quelle porte qui non si aprono più.
