Any artist recommendations that sound like motion picture soundtrack (OKNOTOK cassette) or just generally like songs from said "album"?

This is so beautiful.
Did I hallucinate an up-tempo full band demo version or does that exist somewhere?

Public Service Announcement: An unbelievable batch of Radiohead OK Computer outtakes just leaked. This is material that wasn't on OKNOTOK and wasn't in the Minidiscs leak from a few years ago. This is fucking astonishing.

made a new sona guy (ill be switching from task as a sona so expect a minor blog theme revamp) :] his name is Aneurin and he's a cassetteman (so he fits into both the Skibidi Toilet and Skibidi Saga settings).
Tumblr media
ill paste his artfight description since I couldn't be arsed to retype everything (note that some parts may not make sense if you haven't watched the fanmade series Skibidi Saga by Maxedy)
basically this the radiohead oknotok white cassette if it was a cassetteman. go go hyperfixations, combine into an iridescent beam /silly
For those who somehow don't know, OK COMPUTER is an album by Radiohead (the greatest album of all time actually) and in 2017, 20 years after its release, Radiohead released OKNOTOK which was a special edition with remasters, more tracks etc. If you bought the special OKNOTOK vinyl set there was numerous bits of stuff in there, one of which was a white cassette with OKNOTOK labelled on it (image below the cut). It has some even more obscure demos of songs etc in it
Contrary to the majority of Cassettemen, he absolutely relishes in killing toilets he fucking loves it man. That lead to him being exiled but he absolutely did not give a shit and was adopted by the cameramen because he's a brilliant soldier because of the sleep call etc
He can make the toilets fear him forever like the Titan does by playing the blood curdling scream from the end of Climbing Up The Walls
He can make them flush themselves by playing Pop is Dead (Radiohead cleansed it from their discography for a reason: it sucks) or any Coldplay song (but he rarely does that as he's not THAT evil)
new profile icon I made of him for af plus original oknotok cassette below the cut

Friend-of-the-site James had the excellent idea to write up an explanation of the tracks on the OKNOTOK White Cassette. The cassette is quite dense, and it’s difficult to parse even if you’re deeply familiar with the recording of OK Computer. As such, this analysis will give even the seasoned fan a greater understanding of and appreciation for the cassette’s contents. After completing the write-up, James asked us to give any additional insights, and after a couple of small changes it is presented here!
You can read the full analysis here.
Here’s an example of one of the entries:

KID A MNESIA
As many have predicted, Radiohead is finally coming out with a 20-year anniversary version of Kid A and Amnesia, much as they did with OK Computer with OKNOTOK a few years ago. It’s basically the first new Radiohead we’ve seen since that rerelease, aside from certain people’s solo projects.
Tumblr media
As a Radiohead, well, head, I am bound to have some opinions on this whole thing. So let’s go through some of those, huh?
I guess the inevitable first thing to talk about is the new…old… song, If You Say The Word.
youtube
I think my general thoughts on this track are that it’s pretty solid, but I completely see why it wouldn’t have made the cut on Amnesiac (presumably). The vocals feel much more modern as far as the band goes- in fact the whole thing feels a lot like something that could be a B-Side on a track from A Moon Shaped Pool. I don’t know the full story behind this track, but it’s possible that the version we have available is a modern reworking of a cut track from that era, which would explain a lot of this incongruity. I do like the track, but I don’t think it’s completely stellar or anything.
Tumblr media
As for the actual rerelease package, a lot of kerfuffle has been made about the lack of any of the B-sides from Amnesiac that people really like. For reference- neither the CD nor Vinyl versions of KID A MNESIA have any of the B-Sides on them, meaning that collectors of those media will still need to rely on the original singles if they want to have physical versions of those tracks. And that’s a real shame, because firstly there are some absolute bangers on that theoretical lineup- Cuttooth and The Amazing Sounds of Orgy come to mind- and secondly because OKNOTOK had all of the OK Computer B-Sides on the second disk, along with the new old songs Lift, Man of War, and I Promise. The cassette version has some of them, but again, it’s only the cassette version, and I get the feeling that’s the one with the least people interested in it.
Tumblr media
On the upside, though, the artbooks coming with the release look excellent. The Kid A/Amnesiac era is my favourite as far as Radiohead’s imagery and art goes, and two full books of that kind of apocalyptic rambling is something I’m super into. Having not got the vinyl versions, I haven’t had clear access to the sheer mania that is the hidden Kid A booklet, and I would like to change that. All I’m saying is that when I move out of home, this is the coffee table book for guests to browse while I’m making tea or something.
Speaking of art, though, I know a lot of folks are disappointed with the cover of the new album. Or rather, the fact that the art appears to just be the arts for Kid A and Amnesiac, but with the new name slapped on top, in the Kid A style which looks pretty odd juxtaposed with the Amnesiac cover. I’m mostly fine with this- I think they could have done better , but it’s not like OKNOTOK had incredible changes to the art either. My main issue is actually that as far as I can tell, no new art has been made for the cover of the third record/CD, the one with all the new/old tracks on it- by all appearances, the package is going to just have the Kid A art on one side and the Amnesiac on the other with all the disks in the one box, so it wasn’t strictly needed, but it still would have been nice! Wow me, Stanley.
I am extremely excited for all that new material, though. A full CD of new Radiohead from one of the most interesting recording periods in the band’s history. Even if half of the tracks are apparently without title, it’s not like having a hard time referring to songs has stopped anyone in the past. Looking at you, Aphex Twin.
Tumblr media
Oh also apparently there’s just like. A Radiohead Walking Simulator game coming for Epic Games storefronts and also PS5? When the album comes out? Fucking excuse me? I literally could not have imagined a Radiohead Video Game, but here we are, I suppose. I…maybe? Look it’s probably just wander around an area listening to music and stuff, and if it’s basically just an added visual component to the tunes then it’ll probably be okay. As long as it doesn’t cost an absurd amount of money. Like, if it’s above 10 bucks, I’m going to have an issue with it.
And that’s kinda all I’ve got so far on KID A MNESIA. Aside from the part where that title kinda sucks. It’s an odd package, with a lot of potential issues that are very likely well too late to fix. So at the end of the day, I’m not sure if I’m going to get it.
Just kidding. Its already preordered.

A combination of the background "Paranioid Android" screams on the OKNOTOK cassette looped for 3 minutes, played simultaneously with Animal Collective's "Untitled" from Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. I made this video because of my frustration and inability to find peace. This is all that soothes me. (source)
