You don't feel hands on your chassis. You can't feel boots pressed into recessed maintenance holds, or climbing ropes shot across your frame. Your sensor suite is powerful, the neural link is advanced, but these are just sensory hallucinations as your mind tries to process data. You know this, and knowing doesn't help.
The angle grinders and plasma torches don't sting, don't burn, not really. That's just the alerts flooding through your brain, warning glyphs and imminent core compromise tones blaring in your ears and projected into your mind, re-mapped onto your body. You thrash and whine in the dark, in the rapidly cooling anti-g liquid.
Your lungs still respirate, oxygen rich anti-compression liquid still pumps manually through them even as every other system around you dies and discharges, battery power burning down while the collection crew swarms around your corpse looking for your soft spots like ants carving up a dead animal.
It's been a day, maybe longer, since the hit. A perfect shot from an anti-orbital cannon mid-insertion, just as your atmospheric entry sled was opening. You'd barely seen the ground before everything below the cockpit was severed in blinding flash of heat and light and you were crashing into the dirt, dug meters into frozen earth.
You've wasted so much energy sending pulses up into the sky, trying to reconnect to WarSats that you'd seen the glittery death-flashes of already, trying in vain to call down some last gasp of atomic fury, begging a broken fleet to annihilate you and the insects trying to scrap you, trying to take you alive.
Even your reactor is offline, cold and dead before you got a chance to flare it, to pop the sacrificial plug that would have sent purifying gout of plasma into your cockpit as it squelched out. All you have left are fitful, angry bursts of radar and ranging lasers, something to warm the bones of anything careless enough to pass in front of a functional sensor pod. You hope it fries them, hope they choke on future cancer like you're starting to choke on congealing immersion fluid.
You know that when they open you open, cut your cables and drag you out of yourself, that it won't be kind. Won't be quick. You used all of your anti-personnel munitions on the first group that tried to break you open. And the second. You didn't have enough to finish the third.
You can't feel the anger in their cutting torches, nor malice in their stomping and scrambling around for purchase, you don't have a sensor that can detect rage or tag malevolence-at-range. But you feel it, growing as the skies above darken again and the pulsing warnings in your brain die down.

My Open-Source Tolkien Studies Data Sets
One of the best parts of being an independent scholar is that I get to be generous with my research. I am not counting on it for a job, and frankly, between teaching at a small rural school and running the Silmarillion Writers' Guild, I will likely never be able to do all that I want to do with the data that I collect and so love the idea that someone might do something with it.
Because I do love making sets of data. Everything from the mind-numbing copy/paste data entry to learning new spreadsheet formulas is enjoyable to me. I'm an introvert in a very extraverted profession, and after a day of being all on for my students, turning everything into numbers is like a cup of tea under a warm blanket with a Golden Retriever at my feet.
So please use these data sets if they interest you. Play with them. Write about and share what you notice. Expand and build on them. Publish using them. If you use my data or work, credit Dawn Walls-Thumma and link to my website, dawnfelagund.com, if possible. I'd also love if you'd let me know if you share anything using them.
Consolidated Timelines. I made this back in 2013. I was trying to arrange all of Tolkien's timelines side by side. I did some weird things with numbers that I'm not sure I fully understand now, but maybe you can make sense of this or maybe you just want everything Tolkien said about timelines in one handy document. (Make a copy of the Consolidated Timelines.)
Fanfiction Archive Timeline. Made for the 2023 Fan Studies Network North America conference, this timeline-on-a-spreadsheet shows archives in the Tolkien and Harry Potter fandoms, multifandom archives, and social networks and when they came online, were active, became inactive, and went offline, along with data about affiliated communities, software, and rescue efforts. I update this timeline annually with that year's data and will continue to add new archives when I have enough data to do so. (Make a copy of the Fanfiction Archive Timeline spreadsheet.)
References to Sources in the Works of J.R.R. Tolkien. In this document, I record each time a narrator's source is mentioned or alluded to. Ideally, this will one day include The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings as well! For now, it is just The Silmarillion for the selfish reason that I'm predominantly a Silmarillion researcher. (Make a copy of the References to Sources.)
Silmarillion Characters. A list of all of the characters in The Silmarillion, demographic data about them, the number of times they are mentioned, various aliases, and which "books" of The Silmarillion they appear in. The latter part is a work-in-progress. (Make a copy of Silmarillion Characters.)
Silmarillion Death Scenes (spreadsheet | document). For last year's Tolkien at UVM and Oxonmoot conferences, I collected every death scene in the Quenta Silmarillion and recorded various details about character demographics, cause of death, and grief and mourning rituals. (Make a copy of the spreadsheet. Make a copy of the document.)
The Silmarillion: Who Speaks? This is my newest project, which I hope to complete by the end of the year, documenting which characters get to speak actual words, the number of words they speak, and demographics about the speaking characters. Eventually, I would like to include as well characters who are mentioned as having spoken without being given actual dialogue, but one step at a time. Again, this is a work-in-progress. I have just started working on it. Come back in 2025 and, hopefully, there will be interesting stuff to see.

sooooo tired of feeling bad and shitty and stuck and miserable
fuck my relationship ocd i hate it so much and also fuck being forced to do stuff i dont want by people i dont want to be with sometimes (like now )they get into some sort of fucked up loop where i feel miserable because of stuff in my brain and then theres external stuff which also fucks it up more so then my disabilities become more disabling because obviously and then i get blamed and hurt more externally because of my disabilities that are not! my! fault! and then of course that makes internal shit worse so then im just stuck in the middle forced to pretend shit doesnt suck and actually im fine and actually everythings fine keep being "jokingly" mean to me and pushing my boundaries i dont care i get it its actually really okay if you say something to me that most other people i know offline wouldnt consider mean even though i have told you to stop its okay if you dont stop i guess i guess its fine if no one listens to me and i have to sit in miserable silence by myself because i dont even feel like doing anything that any of my ceters enjoy like drawing or our data entry projects or video games or writing and it doesnt matter i guess that im so stressed because since its from an arbitrary authoritative institution everyone is supposedly fine with that makes it totally okay and actually the real problem is me and i guess im the problem and reason why no one wants to talk to me or communicate with me the way i want to be talked to or otherwise communicated with yeah my bad i guess its all my fault and im supposed to just suck it up and stop complaining and also its creepy and wrong and bad i guess for me to try to cope with any of this the way that i want to and i guess yeah i need to and should be keeping it a secret because otherwise ill make everyone else uncomfortable and thats the worst possible outcome btw no person left behind unless its me in which case utilitarianism is always right and we cant give a shit about everyone yk like someone is always going to be miserable but we should prioritize the most people so if i mention kink (ew) or my other interests (ew) im a horrible really bad person actually because im making other people (more important than me. btw) uncomfortable and upset also i should ignore the fact that i am systematically and systemically being isolated from and kept away from people who might actually show understanding and kindness towards me or be in a similar position and extend the kind of support i desperately need but its cool because you keep saying youre only doing that because im "better than them" and actually youre helping me because "those people" are bad and wrong and harmful and they might make me (simultaneously innocent and guilty) do bad things like drugs that might offer a chance to alleviate some of my pain or transition to a bodymind i& want or be angry or just generally be a "bad person" and not be able to participate in the joys of continuing the chain of oppression and harm. but its fine because its for my benefit actually because you frame it as ""those people" have it so hard and theyre so unlucky (because theyre treated like shit by everyone which is true because people's actions are definitely a matter of "luck") and i just want to spare you from that" how kind of you wow youre so sweet and nice to me right now because i havent violated any of your rules yet what a great person you are because you let me be myself to a certain extent (a tiny little eensy-weensy extent but thats fine because its more than i deserve anyway) and since im being invited to participate in the continuation of oppression and pain it would be pretty rude for me to say no and if i did say no it would definitely justify treating me badly and doing all of the things you do to "those people" to me because im technically actually even worse than "those people" because i could have been normal i could have just accepted your rules (that were literally killing me to follow) (not that you noticed)
and also on the other hand the people arguing against you get to use me as their fun little trick-up-their-sleeve because obviously its ridiculous to treat someone like me the way that you have and will and i can be used as a perfect little pawn
[the ceter who wrote this switched out around here, but before they did, it asked that the others of us post this vent anyway if they were unable to finish or post it]

A month after Bulgaria receives approval to join the eurozone, all traders are required to display prices in both leva and euros, Deputy Minister of Economy Nikolay Pavlov explained in an interview with BNR. He clarified that the currency conversion must strictly adhere to the fixed exchange rate of 1.95583 leva per euro. On the labels of goods and services, prices must be presented clearly, without giving preference to one currency over the other.
The target date for introducing the euro is January 1 of the following year. Expectations are that by summer, there will be confirmation on whether Bulgaria will meet this deadline. Pavlov emphasized that the Ministry of Economy and Industry plays a major role in the preparatory process and actively participates in the Coordination Council for Preparation. Traders’ obligations are set out in the Law on the Introduction of the Euro. The dual price display will continue for 12 months after the euro’s adoption. Pavlov urged businesses not to rush with listing prices in euros prematurely and assured that the state will ensure the law’s requirements are met through strict controls. He also stressed that adopting the euro itself will not cause inflation, and targeted inspections will monitor for unfair practices.
Trust and Doubt Surrounding the Euro
While awaiting the European Commission and European Central Bank’s assessments on Bulgaria’s readiness for the eurozone, the country is experiencing a surge in speculation. Victoria Spasova from Factcheck.bg addressed one of the most circulated myths on BNR, namely, that the European Union plans to seize citizens’ savings. Recently, rumors even suggested that only individuals opposing the euro's adoption would be targeted.
There is no basis for fears about citizens’ savings having an "expiration date." The false claims stem from a misinterpretation of a statement by Commission President Ursula von der Leyen regarding the launch of the Savings and Investment Union. The initiative, previously known as the Capital Markets Union, aims to encourage citizens to better manage their savings, promoting investment in capital markets instead of keeping funds solely in bank deposits. Although capital markets carry higher risk, they can offer better returns. Currently, approximately 10 trillion euros are kept in low-yield deposits across Europe.
The Savings and Investment Union seeks to educate and inform citizens about investment opportunities. Participation is entirely voluntary, and member states are free to determine how to promote these initiatives. No new regulation gives European institutions access to private bank accounts or savings. Citizens' deposits remain private property, protected by national laws and constitutions. No European institution, including the European Commission or the European Central Bank, can access individual accounts or personal data.
Transition of Cash and the Concept of a Digital Euro
Upon Bulgaria’s entry into the eurozone, there will be established deadlines for exchanging cash leva for euros. People will need to declare and convert their leva holdings because, after a certain period, leva will no longer be accepted for transactions in stores or services.
The European Central Bank is also advancing the idea of a digital euro, aimed at facilitating online payments across the continent. This project intends to provide an alternative to major American financial platforms currently dominating the online payments space. The digital euro would offer enhanced personal data protection, with an electronic wallet for secure transactions, both online and offline.
Offline payments would remain private between the two parties involved, without the Eurosystem having access to the data. For online payments, safeguards would prevent linking transactions to individuals, ensuring personal data remains protected. The digital euro is still in its experimental phase, with active discussions about its development and accessibility.
Users would be able to transfer money into a digital wallet without incurring fees. To avoid destabilizing the banking system by mass withdrawals, a cap on digital euro wallet balances is being considered, currently set at 3,000 euros. This measure aims to balance security, convenience, and financial stability.

Chapter 4 - Medbay (There's Harmony in Hesitation) is out now on AO3.
Primarily JazzProwl with some background relationships.
Chapter Length: 3,490
Fic Length: 15,256
Small chapter synopsis below the cut <3
Wide blue optics slowly slide to the left before coming back to meet Prowl’s gaze. With his digits making repetitive clicks against each other, Sundancer wriggled in place.
He waits.
The tapping continues. Pauses. Continues - almost more insistently.
“Soooo…...”
Prowl sighs as more taps echo throughout the silent room.
“Sundancer.” Shooting Ratchet an unamused stare - Which, Ratchet’s was getting more amused by the klik, “I am assuming that you are able to share with me the length of my medical stasis and perhaps, the cause?” 71% likely, though whether or not anything coherent would come out in the next breem was far more debatable. Prowl wasn’t waiting with bated breath.
Sundancer’s vents deepen as he takes in air, holds it for a couple kilks, and lets it back out. Sets his servos in a tight grip with his digits interlocked in front of him and opens his mouth after a couple more moments of hesitation. “You’ve been offline for two cycles. Ratchet had to keep you in medical stasis for the majority of it due to flushing coolant out of your lines and replacing a bunch of them right at the entry point of the wound. You should be good now, er……mostly.” His words got faster and Prowl watched as his little doorwings began beating at the air in anxiety. “I mean, y-you’re mostly fine anyway. AlittlebitofelectricaldamagebutnothingRatchetcouldn’tfix. Everything else should be in working ord-.” Sundancer continued to prattle on while Prowl got caught up on a couple of words.
Electrical damage? What was that about electrical damage?
Prowl tried to recall the events of his strange and presumably brief capture at the hands of the small assassin. Once more, it was futile. Flashes of memory were all he could grasp - a bright blue visor, a wide almost maniacal grin full of sharp denta, and the disorienting feeling of swaying back and forth. Pain. A lot of the flashes of memory were shrouded in pain. - He held back a sigh - of course, he should have already assumed - what wasn’t corrupted at this point. Eventually, he knew some of the data would come back to him once his nanites had ample time to work on his cortex.
He was impatient though.
Prowl backed away - as much as he could while berth bound and hooked up to an unknown number of monitoring devices; Ratchet hadn’t skimped out - as Sundancer nervously continued to chitter. The mechling wouldn’t meet his gaze - glancing at the CMO, he was momentarily disturbed by the compounding glee radiating off of the mech.
Prowl put a weary servo on Sundancer’s shoulder, stopping him mid sentence before he could continue to babble himself away from the topic he was obviously trying to avoid. “Thank you, but what was that about electrical damage?”
Sundancer absolutely wilted. “I got carried away?”
Prowl stared at him in dumbfounded confusion. “Was that a question, or a statement?”
“Yes”

How online survey help in overcoming offline survey challenges?
Tumblr media
In the realm of data collection and market research, surveys are an invaluable tool for gathering insights from respondents. Traditionally, surveys were conducted offline, involving face-to-face interactions or paper-based questionnaires. However, the advent of the internet has revolutionized the way surveys are conducted, making online surveys increasingly popular. This transition from offline to online surveys has brought about significant benefits, helping researchers overcome various challenges associated with traditional survey methods.
Accessibility and Reach: Offline surveys are often constrained by geographical limitations and logistical constraints. Conducting surveys offline requires physical presence, making it difficult to reach a diverse and geographically dispersed audience. In contrast, online surveys transcend geographical boundaries, enabling researchers to reach a wider and more diverse pool of respondents. With online surveys, researchers can target specific demographics, regions, or niche populations with ease, thereby enhancing the accessibility and reach of their surveys.
Cost-effectiveness: Offline surveys incur substantial costs associated with printing questionnaires, travel expenses for fieldwork, and hiring personnel for data collection. These costs can quickly escalate, particularly for large-scale surveys or those targeting a broad audience. Online surveys offer a cost-effective alternative, eliminating expenses related to printing, distribution, and on-site data collection. Researchers can design, distribute, and collect responses for online surveys at a fraction of the cost of their offline counterparts, making them a more budget-friendly option for research projects of all sizes.
Time Efficiency: Offline surveys often involve lengthy processes, including manual data entry, transcription of responses, and data analysis. These time-consuming tasks can delay the research process and prolong the time-to-insight. Online surveys streamline data collection and analysis processes, reducing the time required to gather and analyze responses significantly. With features such as automated data capture, real-time reporting, and built-in analytics tools, online survey platforms facilitate rapid data collection and analysis, allowing researchers to generate insights more efficiently.
Flexibility and Customization: Offline surveys are typically static in nature, with limited scope for customization or dynamic adjustments. Conversely, online surveys offer unparalleled flexibility and customization options, allowing researchers to tailor survey questions, format, and design to suit their specific research objectives. Online survey platforms provide a range of features such as branching logic, skip patterns, and multimedia integration, enabling researchers to create engaging and interactive surveys that capture richer insights from respondents. Moreover, online surveys can be easily updated or modified in real time, enabling researchers to adapt to changing research requirements or respondent feedback seamlessly.
Data Accuracy and Quality Control: Offline surveys are susceptible to errors such as incomplete responses, data entry mistakes, and respondent bias, which can compromise the accuracy and reliability of the findings. Online surveys incorporate built-in validation checks, error prompts, and response validation mechanisms to ensure data accuracy and quality control. Researchers can set predefined response formats, enforce mandatory fields, and implement skip logic to minimize errors and improve data integrity. Additionally, online survey platforms offer advanced features such as randomization, response weighting, and quota management, further enhancing the reliability and representativeness of the data collected.
In conclusion, the transition from offline to online surveys has transformed the landscape of data collection and market research, offering researchers a more accessible, cost-effective, and efficient means of gathering insights from respondents. By leveraging the benefits of online surveys, researchers can overcome the challenges associated with traditional survey methods and unlock new opportunities for innovation and discovery in their research endeavors.

So, here’s the thing. I’ve always had ideas for a massive CMS that would be the back-end engine for a whole bunch of Prince sites.
For instance, a wiki-like site along the lines of PrinceVault, but one that would combine its dry information with more personal content, e.g. a concert entry would link to someone’s personal report of said concert. But not just that, it would also allow its database-origins to use the same information in different ways, e.g. you could generate a grid that would show the tracklists of a tour and how those evolved (much like Uptown used to publish back in the day). Or you could go to an entry of a song and then click through an exhaustive list of every concert that song was ever performed at.
There would also be a “library” of articles: interviews, reviews, press releases, podcasts,... Of course that would be a copyrights nightmare, and thus this library would actually link to the original source instead of merely presenting its text. Full disclosure: this is in fact inspired by Warren Mason’s The Vault: a site from the mid-/late-1990s that contained the contents of numerous newspaper and magazine articles about Prince. It was a great resource, but unfortunately it went offline in the early 2000s (perhaps even late-1990s).
This library would also be used to generate news entries -- mind you, this part of the CMS is still vague and undefined, undoubtedly this is something that would have massively evolved over time.
Of course I never built this, because merely the effort of designing and implementing such a site would be massive, and not something I could ever do alone. And the costs of hosting it would be high.
But some years ago I learned about Github Pages, which would certainly help with the latter problem. Of course, it would mean a static site, but that could still be a valuable resource. I decided to build a management site in ASP.NET MVC where I could enter all the relevant information about articles I would find online (title, contents, author, source, publication date), which then could be used to generate Markdown files per category (publication, topic, author, date), which then could be used by Github pages to be generated into a static site.
I actually built this. It is basically a POC (= proof of concept) and very flawed, but it worked. I entered the details of about 1500 different articles, generated the Markdown files, uploaded them to Github... and then saw Github pages’ site generator choke on the volume of pages and links within those pages. And thus I abandoned it.
Then some weeks ago I learned about Microsoft’s Docfx, which could take Markdown files and generate a static file. I was very skeptical, but I decided to experiment with it... and was immensely impressed. In mere seconds Docfx generated the whole site, and even when I included all the topics as links with each article entry it had no problem. Plus there was a search!
The result of this: https://bjmdotnet.github.io/pr1nc3/ . Granted, it looks extremely basic, but I’m not gonna waste much time and effort on beautifying it. Especially not when it is still lacking so much data, i.e. all those articles from the past three years or so that I didn’t put into the system.
In an ideal world I would have started work on this years or even decades ago, and by now this project would have evolved into a massive array of interlocked Prince-sites, each with their own purpose, with me and others getting paid through income from a Patreon or something similar. But that ain’t gonna happen, so this is what it is. Perhaps I’ll manage to find ways to automate the data entry for the system, but it’s not like I’m gonna spend much time and effort on that.

Streamlining Efficiency and Accuracy: The Benefits of Data Entry Services and Outsourcing Projects
Zoetic BPO Services
Title: Streamlining Efficiency and Accuracy: The Benefits of Data Entry Services and Outsourcing Projects
Introduction
In today's digital age, data plays a crucial role in the success of businesses across various industries. Properly managing and organizing data is essential for making informed decisions, improving operational efficiency, and gaining a competitive edge. However, handling large volumes of data can be time-consuming and resource-intensive for organizations. This is where data entry services and outsourcing projects come into play. In this article, we will explore the benefits of outsourcing data entry projects and how it can streamline efficiency and accuracy for businesses.
Enhanced Efficiency and Focus
Outsourcing data entry services allows organizations to free up their internal resources and focus on core business functions. Data entry tasks, such as inputting data into spreadsheets, updating databases, or digitizing paper-based records, can be time-consuming and tedious. By outsourcing these tasks to specialized service providers, businesses can leverage their expertise and experience to complete data entry projects more efficiently. This enables companies to allocate their internal resources to strategic initiatives, innovation, and client-focused activities, thus increasing overall productivity.
Cost Savings
One of the primary advantages of outsourcing data entry projects is cost savings. Maintaining an in-house data entry team requires significant investments in recruitment, training, infrastructure, and ongoing operational costs. By outsourcing to a specialized service provider, businesses can reduce overhead expenses and access a highly skilled workforce at a fraction of the cost. Additionally, outsourcing eliminates the need for capital investments in technology and software, as service providers often have state-of-the-art systems in place. This cost-effective approach enables organizations to optimize their budget allocation and achieve better financial outcomes.
Scalability and Flexibility
Data entry requirements can fluctuate, often experiencing peaks and valleys depending on business cycles, seasonal demands, or project-specific needs. Outsourcing data entry projects provides the flexibility to scale resources up or down as required. Service providers can quickly adapt to changing workloads and ensure that deadlines are met, regardless of the volume of data. This scalability eliminates the need for organizations to maintain excess resources during slow periods, resulting in better resource utilization and cost efficiency.
Quality and Accuracy
Accurate and error-free data entry is crucial for making informed business decisions. Professional data entry service providers employ highly trained personnel who specialize in data entry tasks. These experts have the skills and experience to handle complex data sets, ensuring a high level of accuracy and quality control. Additionally, service providers often have stringent quality assurance processes in place, including double data entry, validation checks, and data verification procedures.

How is an Online Survey different from an Offline Survey?
Tumblr media
Online surveys and offline surveys are both data collection methods used to gather information from respondents, but they differ in several key ways:
Mode of Administration:
Online Survey: Online surveys are typically hosted on websites, and survey platforms, or sent via email.
Offline Survey: Offline surveys are conducted in person or through traditional offline methods such as paper surveys, face-to-face interviews, or phone interviews.
Accessibility:
Online Survey: Online surveys are accessible to a global audience with internet connectivity.
Offline Survey: They are often used for local or targeted data collection.
Response Time:
Online Survey: Respondents can complete online surveys at their convenience, which may lead to quicker responses.
Offline Survey: Face-to-face interviews and phone surveys require scheduling, which can lead to longer response times.
Data Collection Tools:
Online Survey: Data is collected electronically and can be automatically stored and analyzed.
Offline Survey: Data entry is required to digitize the responses for analysis.
Anonymity and Privacy:
Online Survey: Online surveys can provide a level of anonymity to respondents, which may encourage more honest and candid responses.
Offline Survey: Face-to-face interviews and phone surveys may have less anonymity, as respondents are interacting with a human interviewer.
Response Rate:
Online Survey: Response rates in online surveys can vary widely and may be lower compared to offline methods.
Offline Survey: Response rates in offline surveys can be higher, especially in face-to-face interviews, where interviewers can encourage participation and provide clarifications.
Cost:
Online Survey: Online surveys are often more cost-effective, especially for large-scale data collection, as they eliminate printing and postage costs.
Offline Survey: Offline surveys may incur higher costs due to printing, postage, travel, and personnel expenses (e.g., interviewer salaries).
Survey Design:
Online Survey: Online surveys can incorporate multimedia elements like images, videos, and interactive features.
Offline Survey: Offline surveys, particularly paper-based ones, may have limitations in incorporating multimedia elements and complex skip patterns.
The choice between online and offline surveys depends on research objectives, target populations, budget constraints, and other factors. Researchers often consider the advantages and disadvantages of each method before selecting the most appropriate approach for their study.
