fashion | Presentation of Olga Khoroshilova's book “Gentleman Jack in Russia. The Incredible Journey of Anne Lister
Olga Khoroshilova is a guest of the Cultural Environment project — candidate of art history, associate professor at the St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, art and costume historian. Author of the books Fashion and Geniuses (2019), Russian Travesty (2021) and many others.
At the meeting, Olga will present her new book, Gentleman Jack in Russia. This is an amazing story dedicated to the journey through Russia of an eccentric Englishwoman Anna Lister. It was for her masculine style of dress and unfeminine interests that she received the nickname Gentleman Jack.
From the autumn of 1839 to the summer of 1840, Anna Lister traveled almost all of western and central Russia, traveled from St. Petersburg to Astrakhan, and traveled around the Caucasus. She met and became friends with many Russian aristocrats - the Golitsyns, Panins, Tolstoys, Pushchins, Trubetskoy, and corresponded with them. Anna scrupulously recorded everything that happened in diaries, the Russian part of which remained undeciphered and unpublished - until Olga Khoroshilova found out about them and began work on deciphering and translating. The result before us is an amazing book in the genre of a historical novel, a real guide to Russia in the 19th century. Prepare your questions for Olga and ask them at the meeting on February 17 at 19:00 in Bukvoed, on Nevsky, 46. After the event, you will be able to participate in an autograph session and take a memorable photo with Olga.
February 17, 2022  Free admission. Limited number of seats.
