I'd like your advice as a writer, if you please:

What would you suggest for an completely n00b of a writer who has ideas and random scenes and/or chapters? Do they allow their writings to languish in WIP folder forever, do you just post and let come what may?

I have the ailment known as "lots'a ideas and randomness" when it comes to fan fic writing. Such symptoms include random idea/au with characters assigned spots/alignments (what-have-you), a scene for a greater fic but then no fic cometh, as well as "i just wrote a chapter of a fic, have edited it and now it will sit for years in loneliness." As such, I have at least 2 full-fledged chapters of different stories just twiddling their thumbs in wait.

First of all, thank you for the ask! I paused to give it due consideration, and then I got a little distracted... Sorry. :)

About 6-7 months ago I thought "why not?" and just started writing scenes and sharing them. I have very much gone the come-what-may route. I was scared, but it turns out some people enjoy the hastily scrawled pieces of my heart I've been taping to the fridge and walls. For me personally, this was a great way to overcome the anxiety brothers, doubt and perfectionism, and honor my need to play and create.

You can start small and just send a scene to one friend first. (Hi, we're friends now, fyi)

What makes your current saved works chapters rather than standalone fics / one-shots? Are they Beginnings? Do you know how they end?

Sometimes talking about where you're stuck in your story will make the solution clear. (Rubber duck debugging!) Sometimes physically writing down notes or bullet points or questions for yourself can help you move on to the next stage. Sometimes writing something else (another part of the same story or something totally different) can help. Other times, none of these seem to do any good and you may have to put a WIP in Timeout for a while.

So I’ve just finished rereading Wild Space for the first time in like a decade and, with all the current debate about whether or not Obi-Wan and Anakin are a Force Dyad, this passage jumped out at me: 

Anakin’s hologram bowed, and then his image flicked off.

Yoda shook his head, sighing. “A bad feeling he has. Like that, I do not.”

“Which is more worrying?” said Mace, fingers drumming his knee. “The fact that he confirms your concerns...or that at his age, with his still-limited experience, he can sense something’s wrong when thousands of light-years separate him and Obi-Wan?”

......

Troubled, Yoda halted again. He wanted nothing more than to lock himself into his meditation chamber, but... “Much work that will make for you, Mace Windu. And greatly burdened you are already.”

“I don’t care about that! Yoda, how many times have you said it? Obi-Wan has a destiny as important as Anakin’s. If something happens to him - if we should lose him -”

Yoda nodded, as the weight of the hazy future tried to crush him. “Even with the Chosen One, the Force may never be rebalanced,” he finished heavily.

What’s especially interesting to me is Yoda’s precognition of Obi-Wan’s significance as a counterweight in the foretold rebalancing of the Force. Something which, of course, Palpatine also recognized as evidenced by his repeated efforts to kill Obi-Wan and continually undermine the bedrock of their relationship in hopes of driving that pivotal wedge between them at last. And how could Obi-Wan’s destiny have been any less important than Anakin’s when he was the Chosen One’s other half, his anchor to the Light and bastion against the Dark?

I can’t stop thinking about the reactions of the Grand Inquisitor and Imperials when they go to pick up Darth I-will-face-Kenobi-alone Vader and see how badly Obi-Wan f*cked up him up. lol Damn, but you know some Imperials must’ve gotten Force-strangled to death for seeing Vader’s face...! Not to mention Palpatine’s reaction when he heard his apprentice got his ass handed to him by Obi-Wan Kenobi...again.

Just sitting here thinking about how insanely profound it is that even when not shipped romantically Obi-Wan and Anakin are STILL soulmates. Like romantic feelings or sexual attraction notwithstanding - they are literally metaphysical soulmates!!!

Second Chances - Faceclaims

@noesapphic asked me to share my fancast for my series Second Chances (a Modern Desire and Decorum AU), so I'm sharing the ones I have (I do not have one for every character and for some of them I have two or more faceclaims I draw inspiration from and use on the social media edits).

Since it will be a long post, there will be more after the cut, and a little explanation about my choices. Click the images for better resolution.

I'm starting with the main character Elizabeth and her romantic interest, sorry, I mean, her friend Hamid.

Before I started writing Second Chances, I knew Débora Nascimento, a Brazilian actress, would be the faceclaim for the OC Elizabeth. She's got the right hair, the bright expressive eyes and her acting inspired me for this character.

Hamid, on the other hand, was a tough choice. I had other faceclaims before, but since @princess-geek suggested Şükrü Özyıldız, I've found my perfect Hamid. This Turkish actor has got all the perfect smiles, nice hair and watching the him playing different parts has given me a lot of inspiration to write Hamid.

For Ernest Sinclaire, I'm going with @princess-geek's choice. I considered Tom Hughes (and got pictures of him in my Pinterest folder) because of the hair and sideburns, and I keep hearing Sinclaire speaking with Collin Firth's voice, but this time I'm going with James Norton. He's got the hair and is the one who reminds me the most of him.

For Annabelle Parsons, I have different faceclaims, but my favorites are Ella Balinska and Naomi Scott, the first matches the height and how strong and vibrant a woman Miss Parsons is, while the second also reminds me of her because of her looks and the fashionable way she dresses which matches my headcanons for Annabelle in the modern AU (and maybe her performance in Aladdin helped just a little).

I also had other faceclaims for Luke Harper, but Ronald Epps just has the perfect smile and energy and there's no one else ever since I've found his picture while browsing Pinterest last year. He's the perfect Luke Harper for Second Chances.

Briar Daly is also another character I have multiple faceclaims for. For social media because of the bangs and the sexy selfies, I sometimes use Cindy Kimberly as suggested by @noesapphic (even though she's not British), but my favorites are the Indian actress Banita Sandhu (we never got Briar's backstory, but her mother's name gives us a hint of their possible ancestors) and Jameela Jamil just inspires me for writing because of her energy and humor (she's my older version of Briar).

And finally, Chambers and Konevi. Mathew Lewis just gives me the right energy, even though they do not look alike, and Barış Arduç is such a handsome Turkish actor, and has the perfect smile for Yusuf, and I've picked him ages ago. And I think they'd look awkward and awfully cute together.

That's the cast for now.

I must say I'm not very good at picking faceclaims for the side characters, and I'm truly undecided (and even to do this list I have changed more than once the ones I've picked) and for some I never found a perfect faceclaim.

For instance, I never found the perfect Edmund Marlcaster, though I do have a picture of a model from a 90s' advertising from glasses saved on his Pinterest folder. And for the others I have just random inspiration, like sometimes BIll Nighy just vibes with Professor Richards... sometimes he doesn't (and I find it hard to associate the actors I like to characters I dislike lol).
