Salesforce is the most effective Customer Relationship Management (CRM) product that is delivered to subscribers as cost effective software-as-a-service (SaaS). Once the custom object is defined, the subscriber can perform the following tasks: Create custom fields, relate the custom object to other records, track events and tasks, build page layouts, create a custom tab for the custom object, analyze custom object data and create dashboards and reports, share custom tabs, custom apps, custom objects, and various other related components. None of these tasks can be accomplished until the custom object has definition. Data loss in Salesforce can be caused by a number of reasons, including:
Changing data and date-time
Migrating to percent, number, and currency from other data types
Changing from multi-select picklist, checkbox, auto number to other types
Altering to multi-select picklist from any type except picklist
Changing to auto-number except from text
Changing from text-area to e-mail, phone, URL, and text
.
Salesforce is a tracking program that records a number of helpful basic details, such as:
Number of customers served daily
Daily sales volume
Detailed reports from Sales Manager
Sales figures by month or quarter
Most importantly, Salesforce tracks and reports repeat customer activity, which is the key to any sales organization.
The different types of reports in Salesforce are:
Tabular report that displays the grand total in table form
Matrix report where grouping is based upon both rows and columns
Summary reports that are detailed reports in which the grouping is based on columns.
Joined report which allows two or more reports to be joined in a single report.

Ending 'Upgrades' Once and For All
About a hundred years ago (ok, it was not actually that long, just feels like it some days), I participated in my first, real 'Enterprise' technology project - helping to implement an Oracle E-Business Suite solution for a foreign division of a massive US-based telecommunications company. Even with that small, early scope, (the project continued for some years covering more and more countries), it was a pretty substantial piece of work.
We needed DBA's to configure our servers, install the Oracle Applications, and do 'normal' maintenance like patching, load balancing, security, and cloning, (basically creating copies of application setups and configurations to create test, QA, and development environments).
We needed Analysts to figure out the business requirements, map these to the application functions, set up the apps accordingly, run tests, identify gaps, and train the end users.
We needed Programmers to develop custom data loader programs and custom interfaces to other systems that the Oracle Apps needed to feed, or to be fed data by. And of course these programmers needed to develop custom capability that the business needed but the Apps, as least out of the box, could not provide. And don't get me started on all the custom reports that had to be built - even for a small implementation in one country initially.
Add in to all this documentation, test plans, user process scripts, communication, change management - and the countless other things that need to be done in order, back then, to complete a successful implementation of traditional, (read on-premise), enterprise technology.
And after all that work, all that time, resource allocation, investment and effort, after it was all done and the system was live do you know what we found? That by then Oracle had released a brand new, better, more capable and upgraded version of the Applications, and if we and the users really wanted the latest and best functionality we had to, wait for it - upgrade.
But the problem was back then, and to some extent for many companies this is still true today, an upgrade was almost as much work as the initial implementation. The upgrade from one version of a large, on-premise, set of enterprise applications, (with customizations and interfaces), required the efforts of all those same groups of people mentioned above. Upgrades were really manual, required tons of validation and testing, and if the functionality had changed enough, also necessitated significant user training and change management efforts. Frankly, upgrades stunk. And so many organizations running enterprise apps on-premise avoided them as much as they could, preferring to stick with and maintain older versions, (with fewer features and capabilities), as the tradeoff. And that tradeoff has perpetuated. Way longer than most of us thought it might.
Even in 2018, in this time when we like to assume that every large organization has moved their enterprise systems for Finance, HR, Operations, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, etc. to the cloud, many large organizations have not, and are still running versions of on-premise Enterprise solutions, as the cost, complexity, and resources needed to do a 'upgrade to the cloud' were just as massive and daunting as the old on-premise upgrades were back then. In fact, many of these cloud migrations are not upgrades at all in the classic sense - they are full-on re-implementations - huge technical and functional projects that as I said, many firms have continued to avoid or postpone.
Sorry for the history lesson, but it's important for the news I wanted to share today.
Earlier this week, and in a way that particularly resonated for me given my history with Oracle E-Business Suite, Oracle announced the Oracle "Soar to the Cloud" solution - an automated set to tools and processes to enable customers running older versions of Oracle Applications on-premise to migrate to the Oracle Fusion ERP in the Cloud solutions much faster than ever before, and with the assurance that data will be migrated, configurations will be applied consistently in the cloud, and even any customizations done on-premise will be addressed with a new library of pluggable Fusion ERP integration capabilities.
If you want to deep dive into the nuts and bolts how this process will work, take a look at this video of the presentation made this week by Larry Ellison, Oracle CTO and Chairman, as he walks through the process. But even if you don't need r want to understand all the technical details - just remember this - the Oracle Soar to the Cloud program promises to make your organization's 'upgrade' to the cloud truly the last upgrade (in the traditional sense), that you will have to undertake.
Once you make it to the Cloud - your organization can get the benefit of regular, continuous, and frictionless updates to your enterprise apps - making the ability to adopt new capabilities, remain compliant with new regulations, and move more quickly and innovate more rapidly than at any time in the past.
Your organization probably knows you want/need to be in the Cloud for these reasons and more.
But if you are in one of the organizations that for one reason or another has avoided the cloud, avoided the dreaded 'upgrade' - this new Soar to the Cloud program might be just what you need to kick start those plans.

Selenium Training Institute in Ghaziabad
Selenium is a free automated test package (open source) for web applications in different browsers and platforms. It is quite similar to HP Quick Test Pro (QTP now UFT) only that Selenium focuses on the automation of web-based applications. The tests performed with the Selenium tool are generally known as Selenium Testing.
Selenium training for a rewarding career
India has been committed to providing quality education and knowledge to the Selenium ecosystem for over 16years. The commitment bears the testimony of the fact that we have been awarded as the largest and the leading selenium education partner in India.
We recognize that different clients have different learning requirements, so we provide different courses to different groups of clients. India provides the ideal platform to meet the demands of the constantly evolving Selenium market Selenium products are used by more than 12 million people in more than 120 countries. The training ensures that IT professionals, business users and decision makers have the knowledge they need to manage easily and effectively. Established in 1999, Webtrackker India is the Selenium Authorized Training Center in Ghaziabad
Components of selenium testing
It has four types component of selenium
Selenium RC (remote control)
Before talking about the details of Selenium RC, I would like to take a step back and talk about the first tool in the Selenium project. Selenium Core was the first tool. But, Selenium Core touched an obstacle in terms of cross-domain testing due to the same origin policy. The same source policy prohibits the JavaScript code from accessing web elements hosted in a different domain compared to the origin of the JavaScript.
To overcome the same source policy problem, the testers needed to install local copies of Selenium Core (a JavaScript program) and the web server that contained the web application that was being tested to belong to the same domain. The permanent solution to this problem turned out to be Selenium RC. What does RC do then?
Selenium IDE (Integrated development environment)
In the way Selenium IDE is an addition to Firefox, which is used for fast and frequent execution of simple test cases. Test cases in IDE are created by recording the interactions that the user had with the web browser. These tests can be played several times.
The advantage of Selenium IDE is that the tests registered through the add-on can be exported in different programming languages such as: Java, Ruby, Python, etc. See the following screenshot of the Firefox IDE add-in.
Selenium grid
Selenium Grid was a part of Selenium v1 and was used in combination with RC to run tests on remote machines. In fact, with Grid, multiple test scripts can be run at the same time on several machines. Parallel execution is achieved with the help of the Hub-Node architecture. Hub controls test scripts that run on multiple browsers, operating systems and programming languages on multiple nodes.
Selenium Web Driver
Unlike IDE, Selenium Web Driver provides a programming interface to create and execute test cases. The test cases are written in such a way that the web elements in the web pages are identified and then actions are carried out in those elements.
Webdriver is an RC update because it is much faster. It's faster because it makes direct calls to the browser. RC on the other hand needs an RC server to interact with the web browser. Each browser has its own controller in which the application is executed.
Advantages of selenium
The first advantage is Selenium is a suite of tools that helps in automating only web applications. The Selenium IDE software is a Firefox plugin that allows testers to record their actions following a technological process that they need to test. Selenium Web Driver-is the successor to Selenium RC which sends commands directly to the browser and retrieves results.
Disadvantages of selenium
Supports only web based applications.
No IDE, so the script development won't be fast
Cannot access controls within the browser.
No default test report generation.

For those of you who are always on the move, Salesforce is now available for your mobile devices, too! All of us have had panic attacks when we have needed to view data and no laptops have been available at our disposal. Worry not – SFDC’s Salesforce1 app is now available. Meet The Cloud Wars Top 10: The World's Most-Powerful Cloud-Computing Vendors CLOUD WARS -- The secret sauce that’s made cloud computing a generational phenomenon is not so much the technology itself—although much of it is truly extraordinary—but rather the transformative ability of the cloud to help businesses accelerate innovation, digitalize their operations, engage more intimately with customers, and attract and retain world-class talent. In that context, I’ve created the Cloud Wars Top 10 as a weekly ranking of the enterprise-tech companies that are doing the best job of aligning their cloud technology to the rapidly evolving needs of businesses. Because as great as the technology is, buying decisions today are being made by business executives who have little or no interest in arcane, deep-tech discussions and are instead solely focused on picking the best solution for linking global supply chains with demand chains, closing financial books in days instead of weeks, finding and hiring superb people, and transforming how business is done from what’s convenient for the seller to what’s most appealing to the buyer. For too long, the enterprise-tech business has communicated with the world from an “inside-out” perspective that leads every discussion with product features, product specs, product details, and product POVs. In today’s rapidly accelerating business climate, such approaches are counterproductive at best because businesspeople are making the buying decisions and they want the sales conversations to be focused on their needs, their opportunities, their industries, and their customers. My Cloud Wars Top 10 rankings have stirred up some passionate debates with people—exclusively from inside the tech industry—who breathlessly lecture about how “You can’t mix PaaS vendors with SaaS vendors!” or “Are you using NIST definitions to determine categories?” or, as one commenter said, “What do you mean by ‘cloud’ ”? While those and similar questions have some merit in deep-tech discussions among DBAs and enterprise architects, they mean nothing—absolutely nothing—to CMOs and CFOs and CROs and CHROs who, in their own increasingly turbulent and hypercompetitive businesses, are looking for business-focused conversations about how the cloud can help boost sales, find new customers, help turn retail into omnichannel, accelerate product development, enable dynamic global pricing, and help star performers build exciting and challenging careers. So in the nearby chart, you’ll see that I’ve ranked Microsoft as #1, an outcome that, not surprisingly, has stirred up considerable debate. You’ll also see that I’ve got Amazon Web Services and Salesforce.com tied for #2, sparking some commenters to question my sanity and/or my intelligence—not that either of those faculties is beyond question, of course, but not with respect to this issue. And in two recent posts on Forbes.com, I made the case for why Microsoft is #1 ahead of Amazon in an article called Sorry, Amazon, But Microsoft Is The World’s #1 Cloud Vendor—Here’s Why, and also highlighted why Salesforce i tied for #2 with Amazon in a piece called In Marc Benioff’s Race To $20 Billion, These 4 Engines Are Driving Salesforce’s Growth. Over the next few weeks, I’ll continue profiling the tech companies that have made the Cloud Wars Top 10 list, and as a preview of what you might read in those upcoming pieces—beyond the short blurbs in the graphic above—here are a few thoughts on each to give you a sense of how I feel tech vendors need to be positioning themselves to business buyers. Of course, I look forward to you feedback and hope to gain from your perspective and insights. 1. Microsoft. While the fact that Microsoft leads the Cloud Wars Top 10 in cloud revenue with an annualized run rate of $15.2 billion, that’s not by any means the only reason it tops the list. As noted in the article above, Microsoft has established a tremendous foundation for future growth and leadership in the cloud via the following capabilities:
It touches every aspect of what CEO Satya Nadella calls “the digital estate” of businesses, from data to IoT to mobile devices to PCs to servers and virtualization and all the way in (out?) to data centers. Satya Nadella himself has proven to be a fabulous leader for Microsoft, turning the huge but formerly stodgy company that had lost its edge under Steve Ballmer into a visionary, customer-centered, and superbly executing innovation machine. Microsoft plays at all 3 layers of the cloud: SaaS, PaaS, and IaaS, which makes it simpler for customers to consume and optimize cloud solutions from Microsoft. Several other reasons are spelled out in the article linked to above. 2. Amazon Web Services. As noted in my Microsoft-Amazon piece, Amazon’s a fantastic success story and, in the parts of the cloud where it operates, it’s proven to be both rabidly focused on customer success and a ferocious competitor. A couple of big questions regarding AWS’s future: will it be successful in its ambitious quest to win database and workload customers from Oracle? And, given the stunningly ambitious approach of its parent company within every market it enters, will AWS be content to remain only in IaaS and some PaaS, or will it choose to buy its way into the SaaS (applications) business? 3. Salesforce.com. In my recent overview of Salesforce’s 4 growth engines powering its surge to $20 billion in cloud revenue, I pulled out these recurring themes from recent public commentary from CEO Marc Benioff and president Keith Block: Vertical markets—Salesforce says its deeply committed to deepening its industry expertise and solutions, and that early indications reveal huge potential. Broader product set: With an expanding product line touching on all customer-facing apps plus analytics and the new focus on verticals, Salesforce now has the goods with which to penetrate more deeply into existing and future customers. Customer CEOs’ focus on Digital Transformation. Salesforce is helping big corporations become the type of companies they need to be in the future to meet the dizzying new demands of a world powered by digital lifestyles. Artificial intelligence—Benioff is becoming perhaps the world’s leading evangelist for AI for the C-suite. After all, he says, Salesforce’s “Einstein” AI product has already made him a “better CEO.” 4. SAP. Earlier this year, the world’s largest enterprise-applications company said it needed to expand into the platform (database and middleware) space to allow customers to have access to all their data, regardless of where it resided. In addition, under the customer-focused and forward-looking vision of CEO Bill McDermott, SAP has also become able to present to customers a blend of forward-looking cloud products along with stable on-premise applications that will allow customers to create their own timetables and roadmaps for their journeys to the cloud. 5. IBM. No company has done a better job than IBM in portraying its cloud chops in business terms, and the star of that effort has been its rapidly expanding suite of Watson cloud technologies. This has allowed IBM to bundle its expertise and business solutions as not just cloud, but cloud plus cognitive: insights into consumer behavior, insights into medical research, insights into security threats, and much more. CEO Ginni Rometty has done a superb job in leading the iconic company out of the doldrums and into a dynamic future. 6. Google. Along with parent Alphabet, Google has lots to keep it busy, from autonomous cars to global advertising leadership. So maybe it doesn’t really have the time or bandwidth to give a hoot about the enterprise cloud, or maybe it just expects that customers will pick Google because it’s, well, Google. This company has to decide whether it’s serious about this market or not—because if it doesn’t, then business customers will surely make that decision for it. 7. Oracle. As the note at the top of this piece says, I worked for Oracle as Chief Communications Officer from 2012 through my resignation in December 2016 to launch my own company, and I continue to have great respect for Oracle and have many friends there. I will spell this out in more detail when it’s time for me to do my overview of Oracle, but my overarching opinion of the company is that it’s doing a terrific job in developing outstanding cloud technology, but it’s doing an awful job in talking about it. A big part of that starts at/near the top with CEO Mark Hurd, who simply cannot match the intellectual heft and vision of the other CEOs in the Cloud Wars Top 10. I’m not talking about IQ tests, but rather the ability to fully comprehend how cloud technology works and where digital business is headed—and in the absence of that capability (and don’t take my word for it—just watch any of his public presentations), business buyers will be more comfortable buying from the other top cloud vendors. 8. Workday. I love these guys and their fierce independence, as they’ve shouldered their way in with the giants over the past decade to become a global powerhouse in HCM. With guidance of reaching $2 billion in revenue in this fiscal year, Workday needs its relatively new Financials applications to continue gaining traction to be able to keep making its way among much larger and broader competitors. 9. ServiceNow. A classic case study for coming at a market differently but with great energy, innovation, and a customer-centric approach, ServiceNow is ready for its next round of growth under CEO John Donahoe. This company’s doing things that every leading cloud vendor should study. 10. VMware. Having established itself as a worldwide leader in virtualization, VMware was perfectly positioned to pounce on the cloud. While its plans are coming together, the company’s position is still not clear—it needs to cross that yawning chasm from big company that did very well in the past to lightning-fast aggressor that will also do quite nicely in the cloud-dominated future. As businesses jump to the cloud to accelerate innovation and engage more intimately with customers, my Cloud Wars series analyze the major cloud vendors from the perspective of business customers. (Note: After an award-winning career in the media business covering the tech industry, Bob Evans was VP of Strategic Communications at SAP in 2011, and Chief Communications Officer at Oracle from 2012 to 2016. He now runs his own firm, Evans Strategic Communications LLC.) #ITPro #SoftwareDeveloper

Layered Database Security in the age of Data Breaches
We live in a time of daily breach notifications. One recently affected organization in Germany put out a statement which said: "The incident is not attributable to security deficiencies." and "Human error can also be ruled out." They went on say that it is "virtually impossible to provide viable protection against organized, highly professional hacking attacks." It's a tough climate we find ourselves in. It just feels too hard or impossible at times. And there's some truth to that. There are way too many potential attack vectors for comfort. Many breaches occur in ways that make it difficult to pinpoint exactly what might have prevented it. Or, the companies involved hide details about what actually happened or how. In some cases, they lie. They might claim there was some Advanced Persistent Threat on the network when in reality, it was a simple phishing attack where credentials were simply handed over. In one recent case, a third party vendor apparently uploaded a database file to an unsecured Amazon AWS server. A media outlet covering the story called out that it was not hacking because the data was made so easily available. Numerous checkpoints come to mind that each could have prevented or lessened the damage in this scenario. I’d like to paint a picture of the numerous layers of defense that should be in place to help prevent this type of exposure.
Layer 1: Removing Production Data
The data should have been long removed from the database.
Assuming this is a non-production database (and I sure hope it is), it should have been fully masked before it was even saved as a file. Masking data means completely removing the original sensitive data and replacing it with fake data that looks and acts real. This enables safe use of the database for app development, QA, and testing. Data can be masked as it’s exported from the production database (most secure) or in a secure staging environment after the initial export. Had this step been done, the database could safely be placed on an insecure AWS server with limited security concerns because there’s no real data. An attacker could perhaps use the DB schema or other details to better formulate an attack on the production data, so I’m not recommending posting masked databases publicly, but the risk of data loss is severely limited once the data is masked.
Layer 2: Secure Cloud Server Configuration
The researcher should never have been able to get to the file.
A security researcher poking around the web should never have been able to access this database file. Proper server configuration and access controls should prevent unauthorized access to any files (including databases). In addition to documenting proper security configuration, certain Cloud Security Access Brokers can be used to continuously monitor AWS instances to ensure that server configurations match the corporate guidelines. Any instances of configuration drift can be auto-remediated with these solutions to ensure that humans don’t accidentally misconfigure servers or miss security settings in the course of daily administration.
Layer 3: Apply Database Encryption
Even with access to the database file, the researcher should not have been able to access the data.
At-rest data encryption that is built into the database protects sensitive data against this type of scenario. Even if someone has the database file, if it were encrypted, the file would essentially be useless. An attacker would have to implement an advanced crypto attack which would take enormous resources and time to conduct and is, for all intents and purposes, impractical. Encryption is a no-brainer. Some organizations use disk-layer encryption, which is OK in the event of lost or stolen disk. However, if a database file is moved to an unencrypted volume, it is no longer protected. In-database encryption improves security because the security stays with the file regardless of where it’s moved or exported. The data remains encrypted and inaccessible without the proper encryption keys regardless of where the database file is moved.
Layer 4: Apply Database Administrative Controls
Even with administrative permissions to the database, the researcher should not have been able to access the sensitive data.
I’m not aware of similar capabilities outside of Oracle database, but Oracle Database Vault would have also prevented this breach by implementing access controls within the database. Database Vault effectively segregates roles (enforces Separation of Duties) so that even an attacker with DBA permissions and access to the database file and encryption keys cannot run queries against the sensitive application data within the database because their role does not allow it. This role-based access, enforced within the database, is an extremely effective control to avoid accidental access that may occur throughout the course of daily database administration.
Layer 5: Protect Data Within the Database
Even with full authorization to application data, highly sensitive fields should be protected within the database.
Assuming all of the other layers break down and you have full access to the unencrypted database file and credentials that are authorized to access the sensitive application data, certain highly sensitive fields should be protected via application-tier encryption. Social Security Numbers and Passwords, for example, shouldn’t be stored in plain text. By applying protection for these fields at the app layer, even fully authorized users wouldn’t have access. We all know that passwords should be hashed so that the password field is only useful to the individual user who enters their correct password. But other fields, like SSN, can be encrypted at the app layer to protect against accidental exposure (human error), intentional insider attack, or exposed credentials (perhaps via phishing attack).
Maybe the vendor didn’t follow the proper protocols instituted by the organization. Maybe they made a human error; we all make mistakes. But, that’s why a layered approach to database security is critical on any database instances where sensitive production data resides. Security protocols shouldn’t require humans to make the right decisions. They should apply security best practices by default and without option.
Assuming this was a non-production database, any sensitive data should have been fully masked/replaced before it was even made available. And, if it was a production DB, database encryption and access control protections that stay with the database during export or if the database file is moved away from an encrypted volume should have been applied. The data should have been protected before the vendor's analyst ever got his/her hands on it. Oracle Database Vault would have prevented even a DBA-type user from being able to access the sensitive user data that was exposed here. These are not new technologies; they’ve been around for many years with plentiful documentation and industry awareness.
Unfortunately, a few of the early comments I read on this particular event were declarations or warnings about how this proves that cloud is less secure than on-premises deployments. I don’t agree. Many cloud services are configured with security by default and offer far more protection than company-owned data centers. Companies should seek cloud services that enable security by default and that offer layered security controls; more security than their own data centers. It’s more than selecting the right Cloud Service Provider. You also need to choose the right service; one that matches the specific needs (including security needs) of your current project. The top CSPs offer multiple IaaS and/or PaaS options that may meet the basic project requirements. While cloud computing grew popular because it’s easy and low cost, ease-of-use and cost are not always the most important factors when choosing the right cloud service. When sensitive data is involved, security needs to be weighed heavily when making service decisions. I'll leave you with this. Today's computing landscape is extremely complex and constantly changing. But security controls are evolving to address what has been called the extended enterprise (which includes cloud computing and user mobility among other characteristics). Don't leave security in the hands of humans. And apply security in layers to cover as many potential attack vectors as possible. Enable security by default and apply automated checks to ensure that security configuration guidelines are being followed.
Note: Some of the content above is based on my understanding of Oracle security products (encryption, masking, CASB, etc.) Specific techniques or advantages mentioned may not apply to other vendors’ similar solutions.
