A nasal cannula (NC) is a device that is used to provide supplemental oxygen or increased airflow to a patient or person who requires respiratory assistance. This device is made up of a lightweight tube that splits at one end into two prongs that are placed in the nostrils and through which a mixture of air and oxygen flows. A flowmeter connects the other end of the tube to an oxygen supply, such as a portable oxygen generator or a hospital wall connection.  A nasal cannula is a small, flexible tube with two open prongs that are designed to fit just inside your nostrils. 1 The tubing connects to an oxygen source and continuously delivers medical-grade oxygen to your nose.
