india's hindutva middle class is having a meltdown because the new budget upped capital gains taxes and reduced income taxes. tbf they reduced corporate taxes as well so this isn't income redistribution or anything, but this is perceived as an attack by one of modi's strongest voter bases
The budget increased tax on long-term capital gains on all financial and non-financial assets to 12.5% from 10%. Assets held for over a year are considered long term.
Short-term capital gains will now be taxed at 20% instead of 15%.
The budget has also increased the securities transaction tax on derivatives trading.
This was widely expected, with the Economic Survey released a day earlier raising red flags about rising speculation and growing participation of retail investors in Indian equity markets.

Freeing Palestine is India's fight
I've seen lots of posts about how Western countries and their populations should be concerned for stopping the genocide in Palestine but Indians are involved in this as well.
India has a HUGE Islamophobia problem, from the day India became what it is, this country exists the way it does through conflict regarding religious majorities and it is a problem we must acknowledge.
Collective punishment has often been carried out indiscriminately against Muslims in India- Muslim people's houses in Madhya Pradesh have been demolished without warning. This has also happened in Uttar Pradesh and in 2023, Haryana(300 businesses and homes). These were all normal innocent civilians who had proper legal paperwork showing their purchase and ownership of their home and land, but the police did not care. In many of these instances the police stood by and were involved in demolition and all of these were under BJP-majority and ruled areas. The recent Ram Mandir was built on the demolished land of Babri Masjid(it was built in the 14th century before India as it was even a THING, its destruction & demolition on the claim that it was Ram's birth place is unfair). Hate crimes against Muslims run amok and there are multiple cases of violence against Muslims in India.
PM Modi of the BJP party has been consistent in maintaining positive relations with Benjamin Netanyahu and the occupying force of Israel. A majority of the military equipment for India comes from Israel, and India has constantly been neutral in UN council meetings when decisions regarding Israel are brought up. A spyware called Pegasus, developed by the occupying force of Israel was used to surveil politicians, journalists, activists etc severely breaching right to privacy and threatening freedom of speech.
Worse; India has been using the Israeli strategy of colonizing Palestine with Kashmir. Jammu & Kashmir is a union territory which basically means they are allowed to function independently on most fronts but India has been seeking to integrate J&K into itself and has been extremely hostile to its Muslim citizens and are currently intensifying their occupation efforts. There have been consistent internet and communication blackouts since 2018 and it is STILL ongoing.
India invited Israeli officials to Kashmir to open 'Centers of Excellence' which are supposedly for agricultural innovation but everyone in J&K are concerned and see it as India taking an opportunity to intensify its occupation with Israeli help.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, several Kashmiris told Middle East Eye the Israeli agriculture hubs would deepen India's occupation in the region and accelerate its settler-colonial project. "Earlier, we would draw the parallels between Kashmir and Palestine or India's intimate alliance with Israel. But now they are bringing Israel to the Valley in the form of these institutions - which will be "agro-oriented" in name - but we all know that Israel will physically help India in Kashmir to turn it into a proper Palestine," a Kashmiri academic based in Istanbul told Middle East Eye.
In 2016 Coalition of Civil Society said there are more than 8000 'disappearances' of people in J&K. There are mass graves with over 2000 bodies being found with these unlawful activities being attributed to the Indian Security Forces. That's just scratching the surface of decades of violence and human rights violations enacted by India.
BJP is not shy about its ties to the RSS and promotes Hindutva(I've seen people citing the literal meaning of the word as evidence that it is harmless but the word is a label given to an embraced by extreme right-wing groups who are open about their Islamaphobia. Meaning of the word becomes pointless when actions speak otherwise).
India is an occupying force on J&K, it's suppressing Muslims, demonizing them and further marginalizing them in the name of 'Hinduism'. It buys from Israel and endorses them. As Indians, it is key that we do whatever we can to stop the genocide because we are unwittingly being used to fuel this and are being radicalized to hate on our neighbors, the people we share our land and history with.
Even outside of the ways in which the current government is shamelessly supporting Israel, India's history is rife with colonization. The British had occupied us, forced us into fighting each other, into prioritizing meaningless differences to suppress each other. We were once starved by occupying forces, violated, killed. Our land is also covered in blood shed by colonization.
What are we doing if we don't speak up? If we don't stop this? Do not follow the propaganda conflating extreme right-wing ideologies with the identity of being Indian. Don't buy into the idea that India is "for Hindus", we are so ridiculously diverse, there are 100s of languages and religions in this country.
Free Jammu & Kashmir, free Palestine, stop Islamophobia.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi suffered a surprise setbackTuesday, with his majority in doubt as he claimed to have secured a rare third term at the helm of the world’s most populous country after a divisive decade in power. His Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and allied parties appeared to have secured almost 300 of 543 seats in Parliament, early election results showed, which would give them a simple majority. But the BJP may fall short of a majority on its own, with the opposition performing better than expected after exit polls had suggested Modi’s alliance would win by a landslide. That result would weaken Modi, whose dominance over India has steadily grown since he gained power in 2014, and leave him dependent on forming a coalition to remain in power. Even that could be in doubt, as Rahul Gandhi, leader of the opposition Indian National Congress, left open the possibility that he may try to form a coalition with two parties allied with the BJP that used to be Congress’ partners. This is not how the election was supposed to go for Modi, who has a vast base of supporters both at home and among the large Indian diaspora who see him as responsible for India’s rocketing economy and rising confidence on the world stage. According to Morning Consult, Modi is by far the world’s most popular leader, with an approval rating of 74%. Critics say Modi has also eroded human rights in India, the world’s largest democracy, and stoked religious tensions, particularly against India’s Muslim minority, with Modi and other BJP candidates accused of hate speech and other inflammatory rhetoric during the campaign. India is also struggling to provide enough jobs for its 1.4 billion people, despite being the world’s fastest-growing major economy.

Kugelman's explanation jibes with how Thakur, the BJP spokesperson, framed the government's position. "PM Modi has sent humanitarian aid to Gaza, but our party is against any form of terrorism, and that's why PM Modi has supported Israel this time," Thakur said. But back in Kashmir, critics of the government see limitations on pro-Palestinian voices as part of a larger effort to suppress dissent. "The goal is to manufacture a culture of silence in Kashmir," a local anthropologist said, declining to be named. "India wants its sovereignty in Kashmir to be absolute, which it interprets as an absolute crackdown on any political speech or public presence that diverges from the officially prescribed speech and behavior. It is akin to a totalitarian state." Kugelman did not go that far, but did say that "India never wants to give Kashmiris an opportunity to vent against the Indian government, because of the realities of Kashmir and because of the large and repressive presence of Indian security forces in Kashmir." The BJP's Thakur argued that quiet in Kashmir is a good thing. "Kashmir is peaceful at the moment," he said. "There used to be violent protests, but right now the government wants that peace should be maintained."

Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 03/07/2024 - 20:03in Military
In a significant move, the Indian Cabinet Security Committee approved the fifth-generation Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) poaching project to be executed by the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO).
With an estimated cost of approximately US$ 2 billion, the project will be carried out by the Aeronautical Development Agency of the Defense Research and Development Organization. The goal is to develop poaching and its associated technologies in collaboration with several public and private sector entities. The plan includes the construction of approximately five prototypes within a period of about five years.
According to sources, the project will involve the production of the prototype by industry players, including the public sector company Hindustan Aeronautics Limited.
AMCA ??
As CCS Chaired by PM Modi Clears India Stealth Fighter Jet Program. The total Program cost would be Rs 15,000 Cr & total 5 Prototype will be built in 5 Years with first Proto Roll out in 3 Year

— Vivek Singh (@VivekSi85847001) March 7, 2024
The government has actively sought the development of national technologies in the defense sector.
The Ministry of Defense predicts that the fifth-generation aircraft project will create numerous employment opportunities and may result in substantial commercial contracts worth millions of dollars for Indian companies. This initiative is expected to generate large-scale employment opportunities.
Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Indian Air Force has significantly strengthened its support for Indian fighter aircraft projects. This is evidenced by the government's acquisition of more than 200 light combat aircraft and the approval of engines for the LCA Mark-2 project.
Tumblr media
The introduction of the AMCA into operational functions is expected to begin after 2030. The two initial squads are planned to be equipped with GE-414 engines, while discussions are underway for the co-development of more powerful engines for the subsequent squads.
India is expected to introduce more than 200 of these advanced fifth-generation fighters, which will also contribute to the country's ability to develop future generations of jet fighters in the domestic market.

🔴BREAKING NEWS: BJP-led NDA got majority! But why did the BJP fail to get 300 seats this time? 🤔 What happened?
Indians closely followed the announcement of the latest election results, observing a surprising turn of events for the nationalist ruling government led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which faced a humbling outcome yesterday.
In the 2019 elections, the BJP had a remarkable victory, securing 303 seats on its own. However, in the recent elections, the BJP's seat count significantly dropped to 240. Even with the support of its allies in the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), the coalition couldn't reach the 300-seat threshold.
Although the BJP, along with its NDA allies, still holds a majority, the new government will have to be formed through a coalition, as the BJP did not achieve a sole majority this time around. This marks a notable change in the political scenario, indicating a more collaborative governance structure ahead.
🧐 Why?
Several factors contributed to the decline in the BJP's popularity:
▪ High unemployment rates, rising inflation, and the controversial Agniveer scheme significantly damaged the party's standing among voters.
▪ Additionally, the BJP, particularly Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adopted an aggressive campaign strategy. Modi's campaign included several controversial remarks, such as the mangalsutra comment, the mujra remark, and the infiltrator comment, which sparked widespread criticism.
▪ Conversely, the Opposition performed effectively. They successfully consolidated votes through their I.N.D.I.A. alliance, and Akhilesh Yadav skillfully leveraged the PDA strategy.
▪ Furthermore, the Congress party made several enticing promises that, while potentially harmful to economic health (such as the Mahalaxmi scheme, increased MNREGA wages, and MSP guarantee), resonated positively with many voters.
😕What now?: ▪ Despite the disappointing results, the BJP still has the most seats independently and has the majority in Parliament with its allies in NDA.
▪ However, if the JDU and TDP choose to leave the NDA, Narendra Modi would not become the PM!
▪ The NDA is set to meet in Delhi today for the same!!! ❓Is Narendra Modi set to be PM? Or will the NDA betray the BJP?? Follow Jobaaj Stories (the media arm of Jobaaj.com Group for more)

Recent riots have cast a shadow over France's beloved Bastille Day national holiday, which marks the start of the French revolution, with fireworks displays called off around the country, outraging some conservatives.
Fireworks sales have been banned over their use against security forces in riots which erupted at the end of June after police shot dead a teenager during a traffic stop, reviving anger over racism and police brutality.
France's most intense urban violence in nearly two decades rocked the country for a week, with thousands of cars torched, public property destroyed, and over 3,700 rioters arrested, many of them minors.
The western Paris suburb of Nanterre, where 17-year-old Nahel M. was killed by police, is one of many municipalities to call off their annual Bastille Day fireworks displays for fear of further unrest.
"We can't celebrate our national day because of hooligans, I believe things are much worse than people think," David Lisnard, the head of the French Mayors' Association (AMF) told broadcaster France Inter on Wednesday.
Lisnard, a member of the opposition conservative Republicans (LR) party, said the cancellations were "a sign of a very deep unease in French society".
President Emmanuel Macron will celebrate Bastille Day, which marks the fall of the Bastille prison in 1789, seen as igniting the French Revolution, with ally Indian President Narendra Modi at the traditional central Paris military parade under heavy security.
The two leaders are also set to watch the main Paris fireworks display at the Eiffel Tower, which has been maintained, after nightfall on Friday.
- 'Calm summer needed' -
Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin said Wednesday that an "exceptional" 45,000 police would be deployed on the nights of July 13 and 14 -- as many as at the height of the riots.
"What we're trying to avoid... is a resurgence of these violent episodes, through preventive measures as well as by an increased police presence on the streets," Darmanin told reporters.
Police would be "specially equipped and organised" to face urban violence and backed up by specialist units, helicopters, drones and armoured vehicles, he added, while 34,000 firefighters would be on duty.
Darmanin also said Wednesday that a march against police violence, planned for Saturday, would not be authorised.
This also went for "any demonstration with a direct link to the riots" until Saturday, he said.
Over 150,000 heavy-duty fireworks similar to those shot at police and buildings during the riots have been seized in recent days, Darmanin said, many of them imported from EU countries such as Spain and Poland.
The move to ban the sale of fireworks over the weekend was challenged by businesses selling them, who asked the State Council -- a court dealing with citizens' complaints against authorities -- to overturn the decision. A ruling is due by Thursday.
Buses and trams, meanwhile will stop running at 10:00 pm on both nights, he added, although metro lines and suburban trains are to continue until late.
Macron's office said Wednesday that he would not be making a televised address as planned on July 14, when he had hoped to sum up the achievements of a 100-day reset after the passage of a bitterly contested pension reform.
"If violence flares up again this summer, the effects will be very negative... he needs a calm summer to get back to reforms" from September, political scientist Bruno Cautres told AFP at the weekend.
- 'Loss of confidence' -
Marine Le Pen, leader of the far-right National Rally and Macron's challenger in two presidential elections, slammed the decision by some towns to cancel July 14 festivities.
"Can you believe that in the great democracy of France, we are giving up on our national day because of the fear generated by potential violence or potential riots by some people?" she added, calling the move "an admission of a total loss of confidence in the state".
She used her remarks in Beauvais, a town north of Paris, to criticise the cost of rebuilding burned-out public buildings and to suggest that the rioters pay for the damage, even if it took "the rest of their lives."
Commenting on plans to fine underage rioters' families, Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne said on Sunday that the government would "evolve the law... if the existing legal framework is insufficient."
Prosecutors meanwhile said Wednesday that 12 people had been arrested in connection with an attack on a mayor's home near Paris during the riots, when a car was rammed into the house, causing a fire.

PM Modi to inaugurate Semicon India 2024 in Greater Noida today | Check traffic advisory.
Tumblr media
Introduction
Tumblr media
Today marks a significant day for India’s technological landscape as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate Semicon India 2024 in Greater Noida. This prestigious event brings together leaders from the global semiconductor industry, aiming to position India as a key player in the global semiconductor supply chain. Because the world is facing a chip shortage, this event could serve as a pivotal moment in advancing India’s role in the sector.
The Importance of Semicon India 2024
Tumblr media
Semicon India 2024 is not just an exhibition but a strategic platform designed to foster collaboration between international semiconductor manufacturers and Indian stakeholders. Because semiconductors are the backbone of modern electronics, this event is vital for the country’s ambition to become self-reliant in high-tech industries. So, with industry giants from around the globe attending, India’s push toward technological leadership is gaining momentum.
PM Modi’s Vision for the Semiconductor Industry
Under PM Modi’s leadership, India has been making strides toward digital transformation, and semiconductors play a crucial role in this journey. Like other initiatives aimed at boosting India’s technological prowess, such as ‘Make in India’ and ‘Digital India,’ the government is focusing on building a semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Therefore, the inauguration of Semicon India 2024 underscores the importance of the semiconductor industry in achieving these broader national goals.
Event Highlights and Keynote Speakers
Tumblr media
The event will host a range of industry leaders and government officials, all of whom will share their insights on the future of the semiconductor industry. Because these discussions will focus on policy frameworks and investment opportunities, they are expected to drive crucial decisions. So, attendees can expect high-level debates and forward-thinking ideas that will help shape the future of semiconductors in India.
The Role of Emerging Technologies
Semicon India 2024 will also focus on the role of emerging technologies like artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and 5G in shaping the semiconductor industry. These technologies are rapidly changing how semiconductors are designed and used across various sectors. Therefore, this event will highlight how India can leverage these advancements to stay competitive in the global market.
Traffic Advisory for Greater Noida
As Semicon India 2024 draws international attention, it’s expected to bring significant traffic congestion around Greater Noida. Because of the anticipated high-profile attendees and heightened security, local authorities have issued a traffic advisory. Like any major event, roads leading to India Expo Mart are expected to experience delays. Therefore, commuters are advised to plan their routes carefully.
Recommended Routes and Road Closures
Authorities have suggested alternate routes for regular commuters. Roads around Yamuna Expressway, Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, and other connecting streets will face restrictions. So, motorists are encouraged to use designated detours and follow the signs placed by traffic personnel. Because safety is a top priority, several roads will be partially closed for security reasons during the event.
Public Transportation and Parking Guidelines
Public transportation services, including metro and buses, will be available to ease the pressure on roads. Like other major events, organizers have set up designated parking areas near the event venue. Because of the high security and expected traffic jams, using public transport is recommended to minimize delays.
Conclusion
Tumblr media
Semicon India 2024 is poised to be a game-changing event, so the focus on semiconductors aligns with India’s broader vision of technological advancement. Because of the heightened activity in Greater Noida, adhering to the traffic advisory will be essential for anyone traveling in the area.
