most important information revealed by the pn2 artbook [very mild spoilers here] is that helmut fucking loves knitting and that was a core aspect of his character from very early on

he loves to knit!! he loves to make silly little hats and big comfy sweaters!!!

now imagining a scenario where he knits bob a sweater and presents it to him so very sheepishly cuz hes like "oh man is bob gonna think this is dumb i hope he likes it oh jeez" and when he gives it to him bob just looks at it and starts bawling because holy shit helmut knitted him a sweater????

also, another headcanon brought to you by concepts from the art book:

so context first, bob's mind was originally a town of little porcelain people that was constantly changing water levels due to his alcoholism. we saw glimpses of this in the psychodessy, but now in the art book theres these pages of frankly super adorable art of all the little porcelain people and their town trinketon

so NOW, the headcanon: bob likes collecting little porcelain ppl and town set pieces and arranging them as a side hobby. some of these are also pots for indoor plants in his house but a lot of them are just purely decorative and cute. he is very old man coded at the tender age of 40-something (source; my grandma has a full set of those porcelain christmas villages they sell during the holidays so this is very old people core to me)

a lot of these mightve broke during the 20 years of isolation but post-game bob manages to salvage whatever he can and dust off the little trinketon town and display it again. there were spiders in the larger house pieces that'd broken a bit

I'm a bit too tired for any deep analysis but I do need to say that this sweater is I N C R E D I B L E and I don't think we saw it in game?

And the art book seems to imply that Helmut owns many such sweaters???

I know modeling and texturing is a lot of time-consuming work but the rest of this book could have been nothing but Helmut in different sweaters and I would have been content.

it probably never got to the concept art stage and if it did probably wasnt substantive enough to show off... but even as someone who's not a huge intern fan, i am a little sad there wasnt any mention of that mentathalon/intern competition that has some cut lines in the files (iirc its how we knew some of the kids' last names up until now when theyre finally spelled in the art book)

no choice but to rise in the game journalism ranks until i can arrange an interview with tim schafer and co and sit them in a room to ask 50 questions abt irrelivant minor cut content that didnt get mentioned in the book bc it wasnt that important tbh but I WANNA KNOOOWWWW

So this headcanon I'm about to ramble a bit about is both about body image feelings, and minor spoilers abt some Psychonauts 2 Art Book concept art, #PN2 art book spoilers #spoilers yknow

so with that out of the way

Helmut's got some old concept art where his mental world outfit had a lot more of a classic viking inspo, and a few where he's got his shirt off have Mental World Abs added on and it comes across like how he'd wanna be shown off

and it has me thinking about how Helmut might have thought about himself and being fat... and I personally can relate to that feeling of like being really happy with and good with how my fat body looks but every so often thinking about how it could be different.

I like the vibe of confident showman Helmut once in a blue moon looking in the mirror while changing into his stage clothes thinking about like getting Muscles and Toning his Body bc he feels like that'd look nicer

but he gets reminded that he's already really strong (he can lift stage equipment like no problem even without telekinesis) and he doesn't need like a chiseled six pack for that. he's good. he looks and feels great already and can pull off any outfit bc of his natural charisma

AND. of course. bob loves his tummy very much, added bonus

I have absolutely no idea how ppl (including me) got confused abt who normas mentor was but im glad the art book confirmed it was hollis, the option that makes sense due to the scavenger hunt obviously being from her,

in terms of like pure aesthetics diebrarian is definitely my favorite boss fight in PN2. i opened the full page spread of her concept art in the art book today and i start clapping and cheering

also good news there was a little bit of hippie cassie in the bit of archetypes concepting scott c did so now its up to the brave and true cassie enjoyer (me) to draw whichever one of those i liked best. someday. hopefully sooner than later

Know you said you wouldn't post about the Psychonauts concept art book, but was wondering what content there is on Otto in there? I know as a Brit with the shipping costs on the book it's going to be a long time before im potentially able to afford- and genuinely curious as from your image of the contents page, I can see the Psychic 7 section is quite a few good pages. (Ok for response in dis if you don't want to post public, apologies if this is a ramble)

We get some really nice concept art for Otto & his Lab! + his inventions, scrapped and retained, and ofc seeing how the other mental constructs of him were drawn too

BC he didn't get a mental world we unfortunately dont get like, a cool multiple page section abt how they explored him mentally but that's ok I think v_v it's still pretty cool what we did get

I'm still reading thru the book at my own pace, so I haven't even gotten to the part about the gulch, maybe I'll report back in DMs if I find anything particularly interesting in regards to Otto ^_^

To be more composed about it, I was wondering if I could ask the community to tag things they post from the PN2 art book, at least for a few weeks to a month or so. nothing fancy you can just tag it stuff like pn2 spoilers or art book spoilers

I think considering how long ppl who had preordered it had to wait through the delays that it only feels fair to treat it as something ppl might like to spoiler tag so they can read the book with a beautiful clean crisp brain

and this isn't a command either just a suggestion, if you wanna post huge untagged screenshot compilations of like every time loboto appears in the book then I can't stop you follow your bliss
