The Kiwanis Club of Rome held its second annual Scholarship Awards Banquet on Monday and awarded $9,500 in scholarships to 19 teens from local high schools. “The awarding of these scholarships is the culmination of our member’s work with our annual peach sale, apple sale and other efforts to raise funding to provide scholarships to deserving youth in Rome and Floyd County,” commented Keith Mickler, president of the Kiwanis Club of Rome.
Stefany Alvarado, Rome High, was the big winner for the evening as she received a Key Club Scholarship of $500 provided for students at Rome High and she won the overall Key Club Scholarship of $2,000.  The Kiwanis Club of Rome sponsors Key Clubs at Armuchee High, Model High, Pepperell High and Rome High. Key Club Scholarship winners were:
Armuchee – Jayme Barrett, Jessica Barrett ($500 each)
Model – Chandler Adams, Samuel Bryant ($500 each)
Pepperell – Roavana Gonzalez, Kalyn House ($500 each)
Rome – Stefany Alvarado, Stephania Luna ($500 each)
The Kiwanis also sponsor a Circle K Club at Berry College.  Melisa Mendoza was the winner of the $500 scholarship for Berry students.
The club also presented scholarships won at the annual Kiwanis Art Showcase held last week at the Rome-Floyd County Library. Art Showcase winners:
First place: Natalie Daniel, Armuchee High, $1,000 Scholarship
Second Place – Heaven Forsyth, Pepperell High, $300 Scholarship
Third Place – Kiana Mata, Armuchee High, $200 Scholarship
Daniel and Forsyth will represent the Kiwanis Club of Rome in the District Kiwanis Showcase to be held on April 29 in Albany, Georgia.
Scholarships were also presented to winners in the annual Kiwanis Music Showcase. Music Showcase winners:
First Place – Off Constantly, acapella quartet (Brice Green, and Max Rampley, Pepperell High; Zac Mitchell, and Chris Morgan, Coosa High)
Second Place – Max Rampley, vocal solo, Pepperell High
Third Place – Phoebe Shane, piano solo, Rome High
  Darlington School’s science and math honor societies inducted new members during a ceremony held April 3 in Morris Chapel.

To be inducted into Gamma Chi Epsilon Science Honor Society, seniors must be a member of the Georgia Junior Academy of Science; be in the top 20% of their graduating class; have successfully completed at least three science courses and be enrolled in a fourth; and be in good standing with Darlington School. Inductees included  Herren Burgess, Anna Katherine Cates, Annaliese Clevenger, Ethan Delashmit, Sara Dickinson, Bernadette Ebri, Brock Gardner, Huy Hoang, Nicholas Jones, Christina Kinder, Farrin Mumpower, Emily Orr, Gracie Padgett, Luke Parker, Gianna Pieroni, Caroline Schrum and Griffin Wheeler
To be inducted into Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society, students must be currently enrolled in Pre-Calculus or higher and have a minimum 95 average in all math courses taken, and no grades below 90. Only seniors may be inducted during their first year at Darlington. Inductees included  Reid Blackmon, Herren Burgess, Amy Chen, Robert Chen, Stacy Chen, Jacqueline Cline, Mitch Crego, Ishani Desai, Sam Ding, Jack Druckenmiller, Emily Edwards, Tigger Frix, Virgil Gong, David Hagler, Zenith Han, Michaela Hu, Elizabeth Hudson, Grace Hurley, Ellen Jiang, Gabby Jones, Sophia Kalusche, Peter Liu, Sirius Liu, Callie Maffett, Andre Mbakwe, Stella Miao, Long Nguyen, Gracie Padgett, Anna Kate Roberts, Caroline Schrum, Alan Shorey, Abby Sklar, Jasmine Sparkman, Sam Tackeberry, Fifi Tran, Roger Tran, Hillary Tunnell, Nolan Wilson, Philip Woford, David Wu and Chelsea Ye.

Darlington’s French and Spanish honor societies inducted new members during a ceremony held in Morris Chapel. Societies

To be inducted into Société Honoraire de Français, students must be enrolled in the fourth semester of French or higher; be a sophomore, junior or senior; have maintained an A average in French during the semester of selection, as well as an averaged cumulative grade of A for all work awarded secondary school credit; and have maintained a B average or higher in all other subjects during the semester of selection, as well as an averaged cumulative grade of B in all other subjects awarded secondary school credit (French not included). Inductees included Linn Arnold, Andrea Belda Cavero, Liuhan Chen, Stacy Chen, Hoang Huy, Browyn Luitwieler, Makkie Obiakor, Dara Sodipo and Ron Ye.
To be inducted into Sociedad Honoraria Hispánica, students must have completed three semesters of Upper School Spanish; currently have an average of 90 or higher if enrolled in AP Spanish/Spanish III Honors/Spanish II Honors, or an average of 93 or higher if enrolled in Spanish IV/Spanish III /Spanish II the semester of selection; and have maintained an overall average of 90 or higher in all Spanish courses. Inductees are selected by a committee of language teachers based on their current teacher’s evaluation and the student’s current and future language experiences. Inductees included Tommy Atha, Ellison Brewster, Jack Eady, Mary Harbin Gilbert, Sophia Kalusche, Rosalee Kelley, Ansley McCoy, Arnold Miao, Stella Miao, Tejas Reddy, Giulia Verzino and Lilley Washburn
