Lys Mediteranee

Notes: seawater, ginger; lotus, lily, orange blossom, angelica; vanilla, musk

Heartstoppingly beautiful. A church full of lilies in an Italian seacoast town. 

Cologne Indelebile

Notes: bergamot, lemon; narcissus, orange blossom, neroli; musk

The top note is oddly dark and severe; then, quickly, it opens out into a lovely, stemmy-green neroli. This is supposedly a trick of chemistry to make cologne last all day, and I’d love to test that effect sometime.

Geranium Pour Monsieur

Notes: mint, geranium, star anise; cinnamon, clove; musk, sandalwood, incense, styrax, benzoin

It’s hard to make mint in perfume avoid smelling like mouthwash, and this one doesn’t succeed. MINTY HELL.

Vetiver Extraordinaire

Notes: bergamot, bitter orange; pink pepper, cloves, vetiver; sandalwood, cedar, oakmoss, myrrh, musk

Not listed in the notes, but the opening smells exactly like cucumber skin to me. The dark, cool, waxy green very naturally shades into the forest-depths facet of vetiver. This might be a cooler, greener vetiver than most. Clever!

Angeliques Sous La Pluie

Notes: angelica, juniper, pink pepper, coriander, cedar, musk

Ooooh. Bitter gin-like juniper and bitter-green angelica. Smells liquid and pure and clear-gray as rain. I’m a sucker for bitterness, greenness, and freshness, and this is an elegant execution, of the kind Ellena is great at. (His Jardin en la Mediterranee is one of my most reliably enjoyable perfumes -- fig leaves + neroli, fairly long-lasting for such a fresh scent.)

Bigarade Concentree

Notes: bitter orange; rose; cedar, green notes, hay

Bitter orange smells good. This smells like a truckload of bitter orange. Yum.

Noir Epices

Notes: orange, rose, geranium; clove, cinnamon, pepper, nutmeg; sandalwood, patchouli, cedar, vanilla

This smells of sherry. The notes combine to produce a powerfully brown, boozy, rich, sweet concoction, almost shiny, like the shine on a good ganache or gravy. Very enjoyable.

Le Parfum de Therese

Notes: melon, tangerine; rose, plum; cedar, vetiver, leather

I hate to commit sacrilege against the great Roudnitska and the perfume he composed for his beloved wife, but this literally smells like garbage. It’s not a little funky-overripe fun like Diorella, it’s full-on garbage rot in the opening.  Then it goes calm and peaceful to a fault, palely floral and watery. Clearly I don’t get it.

Musc Ravageur

Notes: Lavender, bergamot, orange; cinnamon, clove; sandalwood, tonka, vanilla, musk, cedar, amber

The opening smells like all labdanum to me: heavy, warm-sweet, and evil in a sinuously elegant way.  Didn’t have time to see how the musk comes out.

Dawn

Notes: rose, pink pepper; olibanum; oud, labdanum, vetiver, oak moss.

Two words: HORSE STANK.  In a good way; evocative of steppe caravans, wide skies, embracing a sexy nomad warrior in his tent.

Portrait of a Lady

Clove, cinnamon, rose, grape, raspberry; sandalwood, patchouli, incense; musk, amber, benzoin

Theoretically a “rose”, this smells like no particular note, but just like overall femme fatale slinkiness. Fruity-winy-sweet, satiny, mauve.  Something you’d wear to a gala.

Monsieur

Notes: tangerine, rum; patchouli, cedar, incense, amber; vanilla musk

I don’t know how to describe this, but the image that came to mind was “a handsome, hairy Israeli man, taking out the garbage to a dumpster, on a sunny day in a suburb.”  It’s that effect of dry stink amid sunshine. I think the bottom line here is Too Much Patchouli for me.

Today's #onechypreaday is the divine @guerlain Philtre d'Amour 🌿 an absolutely gorgeous floral Chypre that could be the love child of Dior Diorella & Clinique Aromatics Elixir 🌱🍋🍊🌿🌾🌼 or the sister of Malle's Le Parfum de Therese... Philtre D'Amour, loosely translated to "love potion", is a gorgeous sexy skin scent, the style of 60s sexy perfumes. The myrrh tempers the patchouli base & keeps smooth, while the citrus notes blend the jasmine in the same familiar way we know in Diorella & Le Parfum de Therese. Philtre d'Amour has a soapiness that is also present in those perfumes, which is no great surprise as we recognize those citrus floral notes from classic Eau de colognes & many French soaps. Guerlain Philtre d'Amour wears so beautifully on skin & it makes me endlessly sad to see their new line of super expensive scents in ugly bottles when this is what they're capable of. 香水の話

高校の頃、今は亡き大宮のロフトの一階でよく見てた。当時は雑誌とかで、とにかくブルガリのプールオムばっかりフォーカスされてた気がする。あとck oneとか。

で"俺も買ってみよう"となって色々嗅いだりした結果、「なにこのバニラの香りめちゃめちゃいいやん！これでワイもオトナの仲間入りや！」とブルガリブラック買って大失敗した思い出があります。(なおそのブルガリブラックまだ持ってる)

で数年経った後たまたま入った渋谷のトゥモローランドに香水コーナーがあって、そこにはあの頃ロフトにあったブランドなんかひとつも無くて、BYREDOやらdiptyqueやらがあって、嗅いでみたら素人でも分かる高級さ/スマートな複雑さが鼻を突き抜けていったのをよーく憶えている。ちなみに値段も突き抜けていたのもよーく憶えている(笑)

その中でも1番印象に残っているのがFrederic Malleで、とにかく一言で言うと"色気が凄い"。エロいという表現ではとても失礼、深くて洗練された香りに一発でやられた。

様々な種類があってボトルは同じボトルなんだけど、一度中身を吹きかければそれぞれが強烈な個性を出してくる。お値段が突き抜けているけど、もう買う買わないではなくどれにしようかなになっちゃっていた。

で、結局買ったのがLE PARFUM DE THERESE。

理由は、"よくわからないけどめちゃめちゃ惹きつけられたし頭から離れない"から(笑)

後で調べてみたらたった一つの香水なのに物凄いストーリーがある事がわかった。(話すと長いのでこちらで　　https://gardenstory.jp/lifestyle/8346 )

マリリンモンローが寝るときにCHANELのN°5を纏う様に、こんなに素晴らしい香水を纏えるなんて今まで買ったどんな服よりも素晴らしいなと思って金額シカトで買いました。

その後から香水にハマって、Maison Francis Kurkdjian試したりLVの香水買ったりしたけど、結局初恋の相手が忘れられずやっぱりFrederic Malleに戻ってる。

そしてLE PARFUM DE THERESEはお気に入りなんだけどやっぱり少しフェミニンなので使いづらいところもあって(自分より彼女が���けてくれたら良いなあって感じ)、色々試した結果、"もう一生を共にします！"と思えたのがVETIVER EXTRAORDINAIRE。

これも理屈じゃなくて脳が"忘れられない"と思った香水だった。この香りが似合う様な人間になりたいとモチベートしてくれる存在でもあるから、あのロフトで買ってた香水とは同じ香水でも自分にとって存在価値がめちゃくちゃデカくなっとるねっていう…

なんだか普段香水の話なんて出来ないから馬鹿みたいに長くなりました(笑)
